lowering inflation to what is better than any other country on the face of the planet, record high stock market, record low unemployment rate. the list goes on and on. the problem that joe biden had was in articulating that message. kamala harris has the energy, the passion, the charisma that people are looking for. it's evident in the polls that she's doing that well. she's going to be elected come november. >> let's bring up those polls. not much of a change after the dnc. it's 50/50 now and preconvention for harris. 46-45 for trump. she has that lead in the polls, dustin. what do you make of what the polls are telling us from the sense of where president trump's campaign is right now? >> this may be the first year that i would have the preconvention bounce, both trump and kamala harris had preconvention bumps. following the conventions that really didn't pan out to be much

of a boost afterwards. largely because biden dropped out after trump. despite what my colleague said, the economy and ultimately, i think, the economic rollout that kamala harris had right before her convention with unrealized gains being taxed and what economists are calling price controls definitely had a dampening effect on her and ultimately what we're seeing across the country is really a dead even race. part of that is that she started cutting into rfk junior's support back in july. that's start to go towards trump. additionally she energized democrats that is definitely the case. they're more energized than before. we are seeing differences in polling. one thing that is definitely the case in almost every poll that is happening in this country right now. people with a post graduate degree are oversampled working class folks here today on labour

day. working class folks are underrepresented in the sampling of polls. that has an effect on the outcomes. >> right. >> i want to talk about the union vote. let's play a side from teamsters president sean o'brien. he has yet to endorse either candidate, take a listen. >> half our members are republicans. half are democrats. we have to serve all our membership equally. look, everybody has a different style of leadership. we want the opportunity to sit down with vice president harris. you don't hire someone unless you gave an interview. this is our opportunity to ask her about teamster specific issues and labor issues. until we have that meeting, obviously we will wait to make that determination. >> david, how important is it that harris ultimately get the endorsement of the teamsters? >> i believe she will get the endorsement of the teamsters. she has the endorsement of every

major union across the country for the simple fact she stands with labor. donald trump now has a record. back in 2016, he didn't have a record. he made some promises. those promises were not fulfilled. he tried to pad the national labour relations board with anti-labor activists if you will. that's devastating. what mr. o'brien is talking about is saying, look, i'm holding out for the best deal i can for members. i want to sit down face to face. when he does that, they're going to endorse kamala harris. to not do that would be a slap in the face to organized labor. anybody that knows what's going on here in terms of what rights kamala harris and joe biden have fought for in terms of making sure that people are accurately portrayed as workers and not independent contractors, to make sure that over time is given to people that deserve it, the

biden and harris administration has done multiple things on that front including clawing back non-compete clauses. donald trump has done none of that. he would fire striking workers. this isn't even a question of who you would support? >> what do you make of what david just says and the trumps and really perhaps whether or not former president trump here has an opening here. >> there is a realigning of the parties that happened over the last decade. we see it in the polling. union workers are moving towards republicans. i would say that sean o'brien speaking to the national convention was a pretty big deal. traditionally, it's been union leadership that is very legitimatic -- democratic and less so with the members. i would say this is part of trump's expanding map strategy. he went to the libertarian

and give you a look at what we're seeing. they have signs and chants. we covered these protests in new york city. people have a lot of passion on both sides. what's happening in israel, you have a mom saying goodbye to her young son who had his life taken away as his body was found there in gaza. you have a split screen. you come to new york city. you hear people chanting, free the palestinian people and completely divest from israel. people want to know what president biden since he's still in office what he's going to do here to handle all this. they don't feel it's handled well by president biden. they don't think kamala harris is going to handle it any better. that's the sentiment on the ground here as you look around and hear those chants for freeing the palestinian people.

>> one positive thing that we have seen, we have seen a change in the hamas position, a complete end to hostilities there in gaza. we have given up that demand. this question of how to prevent weapons and all the military equipment flowing in from egypt to gaza is a very serious problem. prime minister netanyahu has been fighting to keep control of that philadelphia corridor. there were clearly disputes within the government. they voted against the policy of keeping them there, the soldiers there, in part because military officials say you can't stop tunnels from the surface if they're 150 feet deep. what you need to do is hold the egyptians and hold president ceci accountable. we supply egypt with a significant amount of their support. instead of putting pressure on israel saying stop what's happening on gaza. egypt, stop allowing weapons to flow in gaza. >> you pointed out something

holiday crowd. the union behind the strike says that hotels successfully rebounded after the pandemic. the hotels haven't done enough to help the employees survive in the cities that they, quote, welcome guests too. jessica, thanks for joining us. i want to get some thoughts on this. 10,000 hotel workers walked out. this is affecting some of the biggest hotel chains across the country. do they have a point? have the hotels recovered post covid now? they're not passing on recovery in beefing up staffing and treating their workers better. your thoughts. >> this isn't a singular issue. they want more support and more staff. they want higher pain. it's interesting because some of the strikers are making well above the average salary per housekeeper at a hotel in america. the average salary is $15 an

hour. some of these strikers make $28 an hour. it's not just about pay. it's about workload and the ability to have job security as well. it's symbolic. they're striking on labour day. that's not an accident. >> molly: of course. let's take a listen. this is one of the strikers, michelle gordon. this is out of san diego. take a listen. >> we have to stand up. we don't know for how long. ultimately it don't come to that. >> molly: she's expressing they're pretty dug in on this issue. it's worth noting there was a large strike, very similar, over the 4th of july last year. >> yeah. i think ultimately when it comes to labor organization, the big question at the heart of any of these issues is who's in charge. they do the hiring and firing? these unionizers are saying

we're in charge. we can create pain for you by striking. these particular hotels said they have a contingency plan. this particular strike is going to last two or three days. i think we need to zoom out. there's other approaches to this classic tug of war game between employers and employees that might be worth noting. peter stavros is offering an out of the box solution. everyone is in charge together. that ownership mentality brings together both sides. if i were the ceo of the hotel, i would be seeing what i can do to get the employees and employers on the same side. >> molly: that is a fascinating suggestion and undertaking. i don't know if everyone will be open to that kind of a restructuring. you never know. these strikers have some political backing. this is one of the senators that they have pulled on board. pulled into their argument.

this is for massachusetts senator. take a listen. >> this labour day, it has never been more important to stand up to the biggest enemies our workers have to corporate greed. that's exactly what you are doing every day. >> fascinating suggestions as far as restructuring. politically speaking for quite a long time, the democrats claimed they're the party of labor. we see president harris making stops in pittsburgh appealing to big labor. about to join her. president biden who has made a longtime appeal to labor and gone for labor votes. your thoughts on just the politics in this. >> i think president was the most pro union president as far as i can remember in a long time. and it has buoyed the nation.

people are joining unions. i don't think that's a coincidence. ultimately the reality is -- we did research. we looked at the experience of the front-line worker in america today. only 33% of front-line workers feel like they're being heard. there is a labor organizer who will listen. that is what they're going to do. there is a way to prevent this by simply listening. i want to make sure that all of my employees feel heard so we don't get into this back and forth tug of war. >> how do you think this current strike ends? >> they said it's only going to last two or three days. with only 25 hotels involved. i think that this is just more symbolism than it is actual problems for the traveler this weekend. it will ultimately end in a deal as most of them do. i hope that we can zoom out and
