and emergency personnel. the system is broken. when you talk about the community an example from here in the united states. i visited a federally qualified health center before the pandemic and with the medicaid expansion they were up and running with all bells and wise also and looked terrific. i said what is the problem here? they said no physicians. we can't get physicians. there is a huge physician shortage. when you go to the state exchanges under obamacare you see narrow networks of physicians. we don't have the manpower. we don't have the horse, we have the cart. that's the problem. >> bill: wow. doctor, thank you for coming on. we'll continue to explore what the best option there is. a lot of people need the help clearly. dr. marc siegel, thank you. we'll talk again. >> dana: breaking news now. new inflation data not relieving the financial pain americans are feeling. wholesale prices rising.2% last month. now consumers are going to have

to brace for the trickle down effect of that. welcome to a new hour of "america's newsroom," i'm dana perino. good morning again. >> bill: it's been a week, huh? >> dana: or two in one. >> bill: i'm bill hemmer. good morning. americans are hurting. overall inflation increased nearly 20% under biden-harris. check this out. food and housing and shelter, energy and electricity, auto insurance way up. feeding your dog or cat or fish or whatever you have at 23%. there is no doubt it affects the economy. markets recovering this morning after taking a bit of a dip yesterday and now we are down again about 200 points 30 minutes into the day. >> dana: and even harris's usual supporters say she has no way to defend the state of the current economy. watch here. >> the first question she was asked, are the american people better off today than they were four years ago? she didn't definitively say yes. the reason is, it's complicated. you just said it.

housing is still expensive, insurance, car insurance, insuring your home hugely expensive. it is a complicated question for her to answer. >> dana: edward lawrence fox business is live at the white house for us. hi, edward. >> and the impact of higher prices can be felt in washington, d.c. to las vegas, nevada. when you factor in inflation, the real wages are actually down 1.7% from the month that president biden and vice president kamala harris came into office. that is basically the fact when you factor in inflation, you can buy less than you could on the last day of former president donald trump coming into office. the last report on inflation reveals a mountain that vice president kamala harris is trying to climb. you showed some of the numbers there. overall prices is when they came into office up 20%. in that same time frame specifically the cost of rent is up about 23%. from january 21st to now, the
7:03 am
cost of household cleaning products is up 19%. bacon is up more than 14% in that time. >> that's the hard truth of the monthly inflation report and it's worth remembering where it came from. vice president harris has said, quote, we're very proud of bidenomics. >> voters have linked bidenomics to higher prices. it has been the problem. vice president harris talks about a new way forward but she has been in this administration and linked to it at every turn. listen. >> all you have to do is look at the record and what we have been able to do in the past 3 1/2 years, the biden-harris administration has been able to do. you think about the economy, healthcare. >> and new census data shows that over the past 3 1/2 years when you look at wealth, more wealth was created under former president trump on all ethnic groups than it was under president biden, childhood

poverty another example is 13.7%, more than double from 2021. >> dana: thank you. >> bill: child poverty number doesn't get a lot of attention but a stunning number to think it doubled in 3 1/2 years. the debate other night on the economy specifically the idea of tariffs. the vice president kamala harris does not like donald trump's idea. here it was. check it out now. >> my opponent has a plan that i call the trump sales tax which would be a 20% tax on everyday goods that you rely on to get through the month. >> bill: we went and checked that out. this is what trump's proposing now. a tariff on all u.s. imports ten to 20%. with regard to china on tariffs it would be 60%. trump is making the point if the chinese make electrical vehicles in mexico, we won't buy them if he is in charge yet again. watch that story as it develops. now we want to move to a different topic on energy. specifically oil production,
7:05 am
okay? here is the argument that was made the other night in that debate from kamala harris. check it out now. >> we have had the largest increase in domestic oil production in history because of an approach that recognizes that we cannot overrely on foreign oil. >> bill: check out the "wall street journal" today. interesting article in the editorial page about oil production. you produce based on demand. the demand has been out there but the numbers don't lie. under biden-harris she had 2.1 million barrels addae. under trump 4 million barrels a day. you remember the cost of gasoline now across the country $3.40 national average. decent but under donald trump it got as low as a buck 1.80 across the board. energy costs matter when it comes to inflation and family and trying to do with your personal budget. a bit of a check from the other night. >> dana: i want to bring in the panel. matt gorman is the vice

make ends meet. >> bill: some of the tightest polls for trump and harris. objective to show what she would do on the economy. specify her policies. she didn't do that. some of the specific answers were vagueer than a lot of trump's. that was a missed opportunity for her last night. she didn't go into detail and not pressed by moderators, either. >> bill: what do you make of that when you consider she is going to north carolina because we believe that state is in play and then it's pennsylvania and has to make the case. >> i think she is trying to put forward policies to appeal to people and the high cost of living. the argument about the biden administration is complicated. job growth has been up, wages up and unemployment down, the high cost of living for people is still contributing to how they are rating biden's economy poorly. she has to appeal to voters and understand what they are going through now. it is a complicated argument to sell from the past. >> bill: a gentleman on "fox & friends" earlier today put it in

a way i've never heard before and interesting. when you are a meteorologist you have a temperature and a real feel temperature. the real feel temperature is legitimate. >> dana: retirees. t. rowe price came up with this statistic from march of this year. 20% of retirees are working either full-time or part-time. that's the fastest growing group of people looking for jobs, matt. >> not retirees. folks entering the workforce. you are right, bill. what oftentimes the biden administration and you see it with harris point to some ab secure statistic to say well, this says we're doing fine. people don't feel it and it seems out of touch when they try to communicate that. that's a real challenge for them going into these settings. you saw the interviews and the debate at high level can't speak to that stuff very clearly. >> dana: carley. >> trump is not putting forward

patrick mahomes wife endorsed trump. then you had taylor swift who dates his teammate travis kelce and the chief's quarterback was asked about politics in america yesterday. >> whenever i'm hanging out with whoever i'm not thinking about their political views or anything like that. i think about the people and how they treat other people. at the end of the day it's about me and my family and how we treat other people. another thing you see britney and i do a lot in the community to help bring people up and give people the opportunities to use their voice. >> bill: that answer is a home run. >> dana: it's a touchdown. >> normal people don't like politics inject every part of their lives. >> taylor swift's endorsement might help young voters but she is encouraging people to get out and vote. using star power to vote and

particularly in minneapolis and st. paul were calling welts's administration trying to get through to ask them to take control of the situation. he refused to call up the national guard during that period. but they were continually trying to reach him. people did their best to, you know. the kind of -- they shut down a lot of communication that they were trying to get a handle on the situation and failed immensely in that. >> dana: governor walz has said in the past he was proud of his response. watch here. >> sitting on the sidelines and critiqueing is not what being governor is. it's making the hard decisions. i'm proud of minnesota's response and proud of minnesota's first responders who were out there from firefighters to police to the national guard. to citizens that were out there. >> dana: have the businesses come back in droves or are you still suffering the effects of it? >> certainly still suffering the effects of it. minnesota is at its slowest point of economic growth in

modern history in part because of that violent crime from 2020 and that still persists. for the governor to say he is proud of his actions there. if that was success i would hate to see what failure looks like. it was such a catastrophic failure failing to call out the national guard for those three days. minnesota continues to deal with it. murders in minnesota are double what they were prior to 2020. shootings are 75% higher. so the fact that he says that he is so proud of that is just deeply disturbing. minnesotans know how false that is. >> dana: it has been bad for business owners. who has suffered the most after this? >> i think just the ordinary person. the ordinary person living in a tough neighborhood in minneapolis or st. paul or the folks in greater minnesota some of which are dealing with serious issues around fentanyl and things like that. it is the average person who doesn't live in this nice gated

community or has great public safety and doesn't have the resources to move or otherwise protect themselves. and so the reality is that minnesota is at a fundamentally different spot in our state's history than we ever have been courtesy of the failures of tim walz and the ordinary folks that are borne the brunt of it. >> dana: what about the chances of him being the vice president of the united states? >> it's disturbing. i was stunned when he was chosen as a vice presidential pick. the fact that he could be in the oval office embracing the kind of hard left policies that he has embraced here in minnesota and then, of course, having demonstrated a remarkable incapacity in moments of crisis, i think it is really disturbing to consider what he may be like in the white house. >> dana: jim schultz, minnesota nice that's what you are. we're glad to have you on the show. thank you. >> try to be. thank you. >> bill: fifth generation, here
