playing golf. we certainly will hold more on onthe west palm beach police hae their news conference the sheriff's office we're waiting for now. the president and biden live at the white house anything more on the reports this may have started when a secret service agent saw a potential gunman at the golf course and open fire. >> that's almost exactly what happened fox news can now report it was the secret service that fired the gun shot at the suspected gunman outside former president trump's golf course in florida the secret service saw a man carrying the man dropped the rifle took off running we now understand some local reports

that suspect is now in custody. we are awaiting a press conference in the palm beach sheriff's office as well as the secret service will both be at that press conference but fox news can confirm it was the secret service that fired those shots and what they saw was a threat to the president who is playing golf as we just heard from sean hannity former president trump was on the front nine at trump international when these shots rang out for the secret service saw what they thought was a threat. a lone gunman carrying ak-47 was a secret service for that suspect what running we are now told he is in custody. eric: that is the breaking news that it wasn't and now we know according to the secret service a gunman firing at the president. it was a potential threat to the president of course. a man with an ak-47 shot at by the secret service agent. so obviously what we are talking about potentially as a second potential assassination attempt

of former president of the united states. this time while he was playing golf within sight of the street on the fifth hole of his golf course in west palm beach. >> there's no question about it is notable at this event was not on any kind of public schedule but former president trump is candidate to return to the white house but this event was not a public schedule so it's not clear how this alleged lone gunman knew the former president will be playing golf today and also what time. we heard the prez on the fifth hole the front night at trump international heart of the lone gunman know perhaps he felled the motorcade the former president travels and eight motorcade he has secret service protection. that's one of the other things this was -- if this was another potential assassin how he had this information where it former president trump was playing golf he owns numerous golf courses in the state of florida innate miami area and of course trump international's closest to mar-a-lago and palm beach where he resides.

that's one of the big questions coming up shortly. so far if he got his schedule is if you are a local you know the former president plays golf. you can obviously see police and secret service are present you can see the motorcade and you know and that is happening. we see at mo it motorcade rightw going over the bridge from palm beach over the bridge to west palm beach pickle is not a far trip. i former president spoke to bret baier and bret's court in the former presidents" tell everybody i am fine. the secret service did a great job. in light of the new reporting the secret service did what it is supposed to do. saw a threat to the present a potential threat amount and ak-47 within the vicinity of the former president on the street a few hundred yards apparently away from the fifth hole. the secret service agent did what they are trained to do, check out the service revolver their weapons and tried to stop

this apparent suspect this now with a gun and the shots were fired and now he is in custody. we do not know if he was shot we do know this man is in custody. so at least in this case right now it appears the secret service protection worked. but as a sean hannity was saying there's certainly a lot of question why was i was an ak-47 why was he allowed on that street in the vicinity closed so this could not have happened in the first place question. >> and ak-47 is very hard to conceal. it's a rifle, not a hand got in unless the man was wearing a long jacket. again it's probably 80 degrees down there so it would look strange if someone was concealing a rifle under some kind of long coat. he was not see it something that would stand out on the streets of west palm beach.

lookout and i knew would catch the car but i set my coffee down's are getting ready to come out here and sure enough without the car. >> thank you so much appreciate, good to see you. arthel: okay that was a live interview from w fl x in martin county, florida which in fact is a county where the gunman was arrested. i do want to bring a nicole parker >> and former fbi detective. nicole, couple things stood out to me from that line of questioning the officer confirmed it was it is a man a mail suspect in custody. he mentioned his demeanor was calm when they pulled him out of the car they never asking questions like what was this about? so what is a say to you? >> first of all to put things into perspective for the beer palm beach county is where this incident occurred with president trump and then it sounds like the individual headed north into martin county it's a county directly north of palm beach county.

i heard and again i'd like to get confirmation on this there was an accident because of the traffic stop. it seemed to me at law enforcement on this vehicle identified this vehicle they were going to stop this vehicle and the individual whatever it was it sounds like there was an accident like to get that confirmed. that leads me too believe there were not willingly going to stop for law enforcement. that says a lot for getting back to the vehicle the vehicles depending upon the year the car long there are infotainment systems in your cars. if it is a newer vehicle does not have be that new there's a substantial amount of evidence i that can come for your vehicle such as your gps the map locations, the contact you have come to think about every can we get into your car plus ear plug it in her car and charging something that data so into infotainment system and that is a treasure trove for law enforcement you take that along with everything else are going to be doing for this person is in custody but they are alive.

that's a makes it unique and different from the butler incident. law enforcement would be spending a lot of time with this individual. again it's all hands on deck you've got local, state, federal law enforcement they mention the secret service working with the fbi, palm beach county sheriff's office. we are going to take the vehicle back to the fbi office in palm beach. headquarters is in miramar, florida. i'm not certain that's will take the car but a lot of times in our investigation take the vehicle back to headquarters better execute searches under things of that nature. there be a lot of information to come out. your question about the vehicle is extremely important that will be a treasure trove of information regarding what happened. on the back and there's analyst is individuals conducting interviews. running social media accounts, names, checking who are the family members? are the less on associations? or to the spurs and work? so much information that is going to come out i am grateful this person was apprehended

safely and is in custody and that they will face justice. >> you are right about in terms of securing a search warrant for that car. you are right in terms of the treasure trove of information that could be found not only from the infotainment system that's more high-tech let's go to good old-fashioned old-school reporting and investigating. they are going to be checking for fingerprints. who was in the car with this guy at this point we do not think it was anyone else in the car with the suspect. but there will be fingerprints in that car there will be various things in the glove compartment too. things in the back compartment behind the seat report magazines et cetera per as you can imagine they will search that car from front to back aside to side up, down, all around. in the meantime and i want to go back to the skies demeanor. when he was arrested, when he

was stopped they said his demeanor was calm. he did not ask what is this about? it is as if he obviously knew his going to get caught. he knew the jig was up and he was there. what does that say to you? given his calm demeanor he might be willing to cooperate? >> i would certainly hope so for that is an important point to make. he was calm and i agreed to the gig is up a lot of time to these high-speed changes we cannot confirm it's a high-speed chase but incidents where it is a traffic stop and they are like look, i'm caught, what do i need to do? and let's see what happens. again i do not want to save this individuals willing to speak or not. several times i've been surprised when suspects have been willing to speak and hope there's no chance are going to speak and they willingly do publicity what happens law enforcement is handling this appropriately. sounds like everything is going

secret service fired first there is some information on confirmed out here that the individual may have also filed and the secret service returned fire. but what we do know is that individual left the scene in an automobile per the automobile they now have certainly been able to find. i was told there they were notl using drones they had caught her car readers to look at the license plate and that was one of the other ways they were able to find this individual right away. eric: u.s. official telling fox news and i quote the investigation is treating the suspect as a potential assassin. this does not appear to be a random guy with an ak-47 walking outside of trump's club the official added to fox news again the u.s. official telling fox news the investigation now treating the suspect as a

potential assassin. your thoughts on that, ted? that this is apparently the second time. >> i have gotten word earlier from another network the former president was in fact the target here. it is my understanding they have recovered not only the ak-47 with atn f i am sure tracing that ak-47 if it's an ak-47 to where it was purchased they know everything you can conceivably think about that weapon. and also while he may or may not be talking they note now what the guy ate for breakfast this morning. that is how fast they can process information there. but let's be sure, we have a crime scene.

we with federal, state, local lw enforcement having to work backwards from a crime scene to try to determine everything they can about the person in custody. too also try to determine if there are some accomplices out there that they do not know about. i would have to believe that at this a press conference we are going to learn some very valuable information. i heard nicole parker earlier, and i do agree the public has a right to know. and as soon as i can get information to the public they should. but, they definitely do not want to contaminate what i define as a crime scene. i would assume at some stage or another they are getting a search warrant for that automobile before they scrub it. eric: what is so alarming about this there is someone with an

ak-47 near the former president. i'm not saying this is iran based. but we know iran has had a threat against former president trump's life for the assassination of the terrorist soleimani ahead of the rgc. iran has a publicly telegraphed this. they have sent to people involved with agents here in the united states to try to kill some of the activists that are against the regime in iran. but just knowing that of course or tighten security but one has got to ask if you are a few hundred feet from a bus stop why was someone allowed to get that close with a weapon even though thankfully i have not been another horrible tragedy like we saw in butler. >> you know, let's be candid here. when you have these kind of shootings or attempted assassinations like we had in butler, pennsylvania they are always copycats out here.

there's always someone trying to make a name for themselves by taking out unfortunately a public official. law enforcement is always on a heightened state of alert. i have to ask the same question that you just asked. why wouldn't a perimeter if it is so close to a public area from the golf course, why would it be secure? i heard arthel neville ask an excellent question earlier. and that is dealing with a president trump. former president trump is going to have to listen to the secret service. and ifif there is an area they e they need the president needs to listen to them. and he needs to not be in that area. i'm not saying i know what to make it clear it i'm not saying he's not listening to the secret

service but the secret service know full well in that area which he is golfing was very close to a public street. and as a result of that that is always something that can be accessible and assess someone who is attempted to assassinate the former president here. eric: finally i've dealt with secret service of course and perform at present i'm not going to mention which one it is, who would not listen to the secret service and i would talk to the secret service agents about that at the time. they sit you elect them we protect them they cannot always say the prot protect he will not always completely listen completely to the advice. john f kenny for example tragically decided to write their dallas they took the dome he wanted the dome off to lincoln in which he was assassinated in.

what needs to be done? whether it's the protect the protective service which worked thank god. this at gunman this alleged gunman was seen, shot at in scared away there is not another assassination attempt apparently. what do the need to change? >> what they need to change is what the targeted official also needs to change. whether it's former president or current president what needs to change as they are going to have to listen to their security detail because the security detail could only ask so much to keep them from being unfortunately assassinated. on that is something we find. presidents are individual they always want to press the flesh

they want to kiss the baby. they want to be shaking hands with individuals. but this is a new day. and they are going to have to take precautions. and the only time they can successfully protect these individuals is for these individuals to listen to them. meaning these public officials. and again i want to make sure i am clear. i'm not saying the former president has not listen to a security detail. but, there is no way he and sean hannity is right, there is no way that perimeter should have been set with summit with an ak-47 in closer proximity with the former president golfing. >> president ford, sarah j mort fired him and misted 17 days later as squeaky was heading near with a gun we do not want this to happen again. >> of course, thank you.

i will elucidate why. very often in situations like this something and this is a little bit of a leap at soissomething that is politicaly motivated, it's almost like terrorism that's motivated by an ideal or an ideology but this is how the perpetrators talk to the world. very often it is my experience ought briefing terrorism suspects the problem is not getting them to talk the problem is getting them to shut up on to keep them on topic. because they tend to ramble and thethey're all over the place. so we don't know there are no hard and fixed rules on this kind of thing. it always depends on the persons personal demeanor, and where they are coming from. but in a situation like this, if it is in fact politically motivated i would go out on a limb and say there is a chance he will talk in a very well may be proud of it if in fact he wasn't motivated and we do not know this. if he was motivated by politics

and if in fact he was targeting donald trump i still want to remain cautious and to look at the press briefing. arthel: absolutely. butwhat we don't know -- we do w the suspect is a mail we don't know h is hl say a lot as well that will determine where investigators go which trail they go down to find answers. >> absolutely. he is going to have a social media presence almost certainly. he is likely identified by now. they are going to be doing all the background and we've all been speaking about. they are going to be looking into didn't he write a manifesto? what are a social media post light? what does a post associate say? things he was passionate about or interested in. but then were talking a lot about the perimeter. there is also a digital perimeter. and one of the things you have to consider a in this constantly

for donald trump but even jd vance and of course the sitting president obviously joe biden, and kamala harris which is you have to set up a digital perimeter so you can potentially pick up people who are at leading slipping down lives in deciding this is appropriate and required. with one of things i'll be looked at very, very hardest could this person have been picked up earlier? as you and i talked about earlier in the broadcasts it was the one car which began to suggest maybe this was a targeted event. then you have to say to yourself how did he know? has this person been surveilling that golf course on sundays regularly? is it been trailing donald trump, as he can? was that not picked up? you have to start asking these deeper questions and that will go into the investigation. one then we should notice is now been identified as an assassin but what that means that was the fbi has a case there's a direct statute on point that says if

that becomes admissible and they suspect it folks you want the answers to the question they're not going to have a direct impact on the overall case against the suspect. there's too much evidence already to demonstrate that he presented a very clear threat to the former president. and said that is the determination these investigators are going to make. it's one that has to be made in these types of situations when you are urgently trying to delineate what the threat level is right now against the former president. is it any higher than what it was in butler? arthel: we are getting very close to this press conference there and a west palm beach,
