in law enforcement in my own parents connected to enforcement different capacities. in the secret service and the guys there, with the president amazing and steve would call and will explain all this on my show tonight and however, when we were watching a press conference today, think really really about alarming lingering when the pointed out that the shooter with an ak-47, any scope, was 300-500 yards away from the president and that there was a tree line is offense that he was firing through the fence and had to backpacks and gopro which would indicate that he probably wanted to videotape or memorialize what he was doing which was scary and will find out in the days to come. but this is my problem. this goes back to pennsylvania and if you remember earlier in the week i connecticut senator

former president who could be the next president. your thoughts as far as were their failures here? is this the new normal and what can we do to prevent this from happening again? >> are a couple things that are important outcomes of the secret service job protecting people like president trump for the first is of course we've heard about the differences between the type of resource assigned to a sitting president versus a candidate. there is a second piece it's very important and that is the secresecret service and law enforcement respond to the actual threat environment. so where a particular person whether it is a sitting president or a candidate or another person with a secret service protect e is facing actual threat of a certain level. those races increase. that's coo clearly what we see e president trump is under serious threat. this is the second now attempt

give the american people answers quicker we will be 50 days from election day very shortly. >> you are making such an important point because transparency is one of the most critical things we can provide for the american people right now. that was a key difference between the butler situation and today. it's a good thing that one of the first things that happened was law enforcement came forwa forward. secret service, local law enforcement they made themselves available they had a press conference. they shared what they knew of course that's only partial information. there will be more information coming out in the weeks to come. one other key distinction here is that we have the suspect in custody. so one of the things we will be finding out here in the coming days is he talking? has he shared information with investigators? that is one thing that could be a critical difference will have the opportunity to take a look at a social media, his contacts.

what is he doing? what can we learn about handbook would glean? one back to butler that is exactly the type of information for the first thing we will heae is really about the preparation, the planning, and some of things that went wrong that day. we know already the planning and the site preparation obviously was not done adequately. the perimeter should vent broader. the buildings there at the site were not very numerous. there were buildings that man was able to get up on that roof should have been secured. the other really important thing we learned about butler is a failure to communicate. we had a team of local law enforcement and federal law enforcement they are together but their communication was not adequate. if one person saw something another person there might not have known it which is so foundational to the success of

any type of security mission. i believe the internal report that we see will have a lot of information about the mistakes that were made in the planning and the execution of securing the butler rally. we hope to also see a lot more information of the shooter what led him to that moment what caused him to take that horrific action? so for us getting out there and seeing the site has been so important for the task force a number of us have been out there some of us have been out there twice, to have the ability to walk those grounds and seaward the men and women and law enforcement were. where the rally goers were and help us understand the type of action and response that's necessary by secret service and planning and preparing for an event like that. >> congressman lee thank you so much for talking to us but we are up against a hard break but i am curious would short task

i know there is some limitation of what you can speculate on because you do not know everything. but, i'm sort of curious about these ceramic tiles, these ceramic plates that were in the suspects bag along with the go pro camera. what do you make of all of that? >> thanks for having me on. what i would make of these ceramic plates is that is one of the things used to deflect bullets every ballistic vest today, the more high-profile ones you have a ceramic body armor within them. it could've been used for cover. he might've been thinking he was going to get into a protracted gunfight. heat needed some covers far as the camera is concerned i can only speculate it would seem he wanted to perhaps film the attack for posterity i do not know put on social media if he did escape. but those are all things will come forth in the investigation.
