5:02 am
starts right now. >> brian: we begin final hour of "fox and friends" with this. acting director of the secret service will have a meeting today after former president trump had a second assassination att attempt according to a secret service official. >> steve: the suspect left the scene and left behind a ak-47, a gopro camera and a backpack. the suspect was three to five hundred yards from the former president. learn what he said online that system political. >> carley: brooke singman will have more. first we'll go to dana marie
5:03 am
nichol who will walk us through what happened. good morning. >> this is an active investigation crime scene remains around the perimeter of the golf course. many roads closed from the publ public. the former president lives at mar-a-lago. golf is something he does on sunday. we heard him praising secret service and local law enforcement for keeping him safe speaking out about this. the maps, you see how close the golf course holes are to the public streets in west palm beach. ryan wesley routh was three to five hundred yards from the president hidden in shrubbery as he played. >> our agents will get there
5:04 am
first. agent noticed gun pointing out and we engaged. for sure our agents were able to engage with the suspect. >> fbi and local law enforcement are posted at mobile command center outside hole five and six right now processing evidence, including the rifle found on the scene in the bushes. it was an ak-47-style rifle. >> in the bushes where this guys was is an ak-47-style rifle with a scope, two backpacks hung on the fence that had ceramic tile in them and a gopro, which he was going to take pictures of. those are being processed right now. >> a witness has wibeen a huge
5:05 am
help in this situation, he saw ryan wesley routh run from the golf course bushes and run in a black appronissan. the police pulled the vehicle over. vice president kamala harris says she must all do our part to ensure this does not lead to more violence. president joe biden praised for k keeping the former president safe. there will be a walk-through of the site, meeting 'of local law enforcement. we will hear more details when the suspect will be in court. >> carley: brooke singman joins us now with details about the suspect's past, including run-ins with the police.
5:06 am
>> brooke: he had a few. former president trump is safe following this happenings happen ing yesterday. this is ryan wesley routh moments after his arrest. the sheriff spoke about the suspect's demeanor when taken into custody. >> i was at the scene. he had a kind of detached, flat, facial affect like it wasn't bothering him. blue lights overhead, h helicopters overhead, he never asked why he got stopped. >> brooke: he is from north carolina and moved to hawaii in 2017. he has prior arrests for drug possession, driving without license, inspired inspection and operating a vehicle without experience. he barricaded himself in his
5:07 am
office during a three-hour standoff with police after a traffic stop. routh's son telling him he is not a violent person, he is a great dad and nice person. he volunteered to help ukraine in the war with russia, an article said ryan wesley routh is seeking recruits from among 've began soldiers who fled the taliban. the suspect remains in custody. >> brian: i think he's been arrested eight times, but he's a nice guy. any time you are holdup in your house, that is your resume. he's unemployed low income housing from hawaii. who isn't? >> steve: he has cases filed
5:08 am
against him in north carolina. we were talking to state attorney david aronberg down in palm beach countiy, asking what charges he might be facing. he said it will be hard to do that, because the guy did not point the gun at donald trump. the gunman, guy with the gun did not shoot it, but aimed at the agent, who returned fire. one thing i want to know, can we put up the graphic showing the golf course. where was the guy's car he hopped in? the black nissan. it was between hole four and five and that street between
5:09 am
four and five that runs east and west is summit. if i had to ges, probably there and probably a passerby saw a guy running, hopped in the car and this good samaritan took a picture of the license place and gave to the police. sgls hole four and five, donald trump on hole five on the green on opposite end to far right of the green. if this guy is between four and five, fired off shots, three to five hundred -- >> they heard four popping noise. >> secret service. >> brian: he did not get them shot off? >> steve: sounded like from the state attorney he did not fire. >> ainsley: they fired the four shots.
5:10 am
>> brian: another thing, they should get more secret service and why have they not adjusted? michael waltz was briefed, he is with assassination one task force and they said, president biden put presidential will level secret service force around harris and trump yet when we listen to the press conference from the sheriff, he said, it is not like he is the president, not the level if he is president. when president biden makes the decision, is he having a problem with execution? if he made the decision, they are not listening to them and back to mayorkas. >> carley: r.f.k. jr. being also complained about not having enough protection. we thought things had changed. has it changed? he was president and now is
5:11 am
running for president, this could be strata strophic if someone is successful. >> steve: we will hear from secret service guys today. if i had to guess, this is probably the level of security he had when he was president at that particular club. you don't really -- if is impossible to have a cop everywhere outside and i did not realize until the yesterday there is not a solid wall like cinder block and instead it is a chain link fence. >> ainsley: that might be changing. >> brian: our first guest today said if he was president, there would be security on the outside. speaker johnson met with the president three hours after, listen to what he said the president's response and demeanor was. we arrived about time president
5:12 am
trump did and spent three hours with him. he was in good -- so strong and resilient, he is one of a kind and will not stop fighting for the american people. i got a message within 90 minutes of the event, i was sitting with president trump and we listen said in detail. agents with him yesterday saw that barrel of that gun between the bushes on a golf course, that is difficult to spot, thankfully they did. unlike in butler, they did not pause, they pulled their weapon and fired, i think that is why this guy threw the gun in the bushes and ran. had they not been there and acted so quickly, we might be
5:13 am
having a different discussion today. >> brian: the president does best under pressure, when things are going crazy, that is when he's calmest. truth social, when things are quiet. when there is stress and chaos, he has opposite reaction. like an athlete reaction. >> carley: he put on social media, i'm safe and well, i will never surrender. hats off to the witness, who took a picture of the car and license plate and notified the police. martin county police officers pull the him over and detained him. >> steve: secret service, unlike in butler, they had a drone or drones over the golf course yesterday. it is usually tethered like at
5:14 am
national convention in milwaukee, there was a drone tethered over the arena. interesting to see did that impact anything other than we saw the car drive away. >> brian: you can probably see video leading up to him -- >> steve: problem is, you did not see the gun or they would have done something. hats off and i hope we learn more about this particular agent, how long had they been on the force, the secret service and things like that. going through and looking around, checking the fence line and there is a guy with a gun and he squeezed off shots. >> ainsley: so scary. you played with president bush and you played with president trump, you will have to share those stories. today kamala harris is looking to rally teamsters as union is yet to endorse either candidate. >> brian: rich edson is live from the white house. >> the president vice president
5:15 am
will court teamster union leadership for endorsement. teamster system are doing things differently. they have an interview process, that is why you had former president trump in january and president biden when he was the democratic nominee met with teamsters. it's leadership is usually supporter of democratic presidents. the union president was first teamster president to address rnc. he got no democrat being ic invite. president biden has been sharing his economic legacy highlighting projects funded during his administration. biden's poll number upons show americans are unhappy with his
5:16 am
performance, drawing to consumers drawing down their savings, consumer prices up 20% and inflation 2 be.5%, that is lower than in june of 2022. white house points out wage increases outpaced inflation and job growth has been strong. harris has been criticized for her lack of press conferences and light interview schedule. tomorrow she will meet with national black journalists and be interviewed. >> steve: interesting to see what they ask her. thank you. >> brian: tell you what, friday did not go well, if you saw the video and worried about kamala harris in a crunch, you will not feel better walking the local interview in pennen approximate. >> ainsley: word salad moments in there. >> steve: 8:16.
5:17 am
carley joins us, sad news, original member of jackson five. >> carley: tito jackson has passed away at the age of 70. family shared memories of his life, he is survived by three sons, four brothers and three sisters, no word on funeral arrangements. to fox news alert, officers opened fire on armed suspect in a brooklyn subway station yesterday. two officers confronted the suspect and he pull out to a knife, leading to a shoot out. a bystander was struck in the head and is in critical condition. the suspect is in critical condition.

5:19 am
he buries it. >> carley: that is what it took, chiefs beat the bengals 26-25 and move to 2-0 on the year, undefeated record so far. >> ainsley: amazing. >> carley: you are happy. >> steve: way to go harrison. >> carley: that is who kicked it. made news for other reasons. >> brian: so jealous of kansas city, they have a kicker. giantings do not have a kicker. >> steve: enough of your team, come to nine. >> brian: 100 years of giants. >> carley: my team trying for a field goal and it went left and he lost the game. >> brian: the giants thought the
5:20 am
kicker was just injured, take him anyway. no kicker at all. >> carley: if they are worst team, don't they get the first pick next year? >> brian: game two, i have to wait nine months? it was first time in history of football scored three touchdowns to a team that did not score any touchdowns and lost. i will check with that carley shimkus later. >> steve: fox news alert the, former president trump targeted second time few hundreds yards away, potential gunman, palm beach county shvr will share the latest coming up next on "fox and friends." ichi, ni, san, shi... >> brian: fox news alert, today acting secret service director will tour assassination attempt site in west palm beach amid questions how the assassin got within few hundred yards of the former president with an ak-47. sheriff rick bradshaw joins us >> what have you learned since the press conference?
5:26 am
thank you for being candid, people usually say we can't comment, i think it helps american public to know somebody can be transparent. >> i will tell you like it is, you can count on that. we're trying to figure out if he had a place locally he was playing. his last residence was in hawaii. we are checking flight schedules and travel plans to get here. other than that, he's in our jail in federal hold ing faciliy and the fbi is at the scene. we provided an area for them to do forensic, we have the roadblocked off. it is matter of gathering more forensics and checking to see where the gun came from.
5:27 am
>> brian: is he talking? >> no. >> brian: has he lawyered up? >> well, i don't know that because right now it is a federal investigation, we turned it over to them. they are the point person, everything is conducted by them. >> brian: yesterday you said he did not skr skreetz have the secret service of a president, we thought biden said i want trump and harris to have presidential level secret service. from your experience, since he was ptz and owned that club, was it presidential level? >> as far as i know and what i meant by that, he is not a sitting president, some things that happen were not there and that is motorcade stuff.
5:28 am
at the golf course, we had as much resources possible and needed. at the end of the day, this did work. secret service who goes ahead of him, it is his job to make sure everything is all right and check the fence line and he did. he saw the barrel, got parallel and fired with the guy and the guy took off. we had this place surrounded with helicopters and dogs within minutes. >> brian: i am not a sheriff and law enforcement, when you see barrel of a gun, do you still shoot because you figure a person is holding it? do you shoot for the gun, what did they shoot for? he wasn't hit, what did they hit?
5:29 am
>> well, it is hard to tell in the bushes, they are not thick where a bullet would stick. that is what forensics is doing today. yes, if you have barrel of a gun sticking out, first thing you do is have bulleting goes down range to that. it is hard to see in the henl line through the bushes. you got to shoot where the gun was. secret service did a fantastic job returning fire, making the guy take off. in the two backpacks, there was ceramic tile, i think an attempt to have him with body armor hanging on the fence. >> brian: did the suspect shoot? >> no, he did not get off any rounds because secret service acted quickly.
5:30 am
>> brian: probably 20 minutes from you can waing to the hole, how do you explain the fact, he is camped out. you are not looking to get out quick if he's hanging his bag and putting mraths there. >> he could do that in less than a minute. depends how long he was in there. we don't know. the president was 300 to 500 yards away and there is a lot of terrain in between. he would have to wait for the president to get to the hole and turn and face the area he was at. it does not appear to me he had a clear shot from there to where the president was before he would make the turn to come that
5:31 am
way. that is why they have the secret service going a hole ahead to make sure everything is okay. >> brian: so even though they were coming his way. >> yeah, they were coming his way. >> brian: would have been an easier shot had he waited, he did not wait, do you find that intriguing? >> you don't know what is going through their head. a lot of people do not think through all the way. maybe they get prematurely ready. idea is secret service guy, this is not like butler. he saw that barrel, he took action right that minute. >> brian: i imagine if they had drones in the sky, they might have video of him gets set up. >> maybe, it is a dense area, eight or nine feet high and four
5:32 am
feet wide. >> brian: great work, thank you. appreciate it. sean hannity spoke with donald trump moments after second assassination attempt, he will join us next. choose advil liqui-gels for faster, stronger and longer-lasting relief than tylenol rapid release gels. because advil targets pain at the source of inflammation. so for faster pain relief, advil the pain away. there are many ways to deliver a shipment. at old dominion freight line, we deliver them this way. this way uses technology and goes the extra mile to do things the right way. the delivering promises on time, every time, way.

>> fox news alert, moments after second assassination attempt on his life yesterday afternoon, former president trump sharing his concerns with sean hannity of fox news as he was rushed back to the club house at his golf course. >> ainsley: sean hannity joins us now. it happened 1 tie:30 yesterday you got a call before it broke. tell us the story.
5:38 am
>> sean: not long right after it happened. president playing with dear friend of mine steve woodcof. we had breakfast together and steve was giving me a hard time, come play golf. steve is a scratch golfer and president near scratch golfer. i am not that good at golf, i hope to get back to it. he goes off and plays. my phone rings maybe before 2:00, right after it happened, he was immediately back in the club house and he told me what happened. four shots they heard pop, pop, pop, pop, that is how he described it. he was absolutely positively blown away how quickly the secret service got on the
5:39 am
president and got him off the golf course and tripods were set up by sharp shooters in the secret service and how professional they were. he will tell his story tonight on "hannity." i was listening to brian's interview with the sheriff. law enforcement is so much better in florida than in new york, they daen buy into this woke insanity, they take law and order seriously down here. i praise the sheriff and everybody in the secret service. there is something we have to examine very closely here after conversation i had with governor desantis, it struck me, i said, governor, you play that golf course, tell me more about it. he was describing there are two holes, par three and par four,
5:40 am
par four is drivable par four. it was the area closest to the fence we keep hearing about that is surrounded in the treed area. and what is really diskconcertig to me, if you go back to butler, we were told by secret service, people making the decisions, what the perimeter ought to be, not the guys willing to dive on the president and put their life in harm's way and die to protect him, but people that are responsible for making sure that perimeter is closed, there is real serious questions, more than we had yesterday this morning, they got within 130 yards in butler and claimed it was a slopped roof and it turned out not to be a slopped roof at
5:41 am
all. americans will be shocked and appalled when they learn about failures in butler. now we have a situation where we have a three hundred yards from the president and how is it possible that nobody was watching that street? the way governor desantis described this to me, if you ever see a picture of donald trump playing golf, it is photographer in that treed area by the fence we keep hearing about, that is area they will get the picture, not anywhere else on the golf course. that would be the area, if you are a shooter, you have closest proximity to top prejudicial presidential candidate.
5:42 am
there was a recent assassination attempt, we are close to a presidential election and you're allowing someone with ak-47 that has a scope on it to be literally within 300 yards, ek equivalent of a top-in putt. if they are not covering that street and making sure nobody gets in the bushes let alone with an ak-47 and two backpacks and a gopro. i will tell you this, as close as b butler was, this is so eerie, they got, this guy got close to killing the president if not for one secret service
5:43 am
agent spotting the rifle and taking the shot, this guy gets a shot off. >> ainsley: quickly tell us the story i heard you on radio, your last town hall with the president was different. >> sean: i thought somebody might remember that, if lj was here today, lj, i've been doing town halls since before you were before. we all loj. i have done many with president trump in particular, events with george w bush and other presidential candidates and presidents and interviewed all 17 republican candidates back when they were running in 2015 and 2016. i've had town halls. when i did the one in harrisburg, i never faced a
5:44 am
situation like i did hear, secret service was adament no one in the audience could be sur surrounding the floor. then i was told, we will not allow you to fill up the entire building, there was back and forth with the campaign and we were asking why, that had never happened before. one other strange thing happened, which was secret service in charge of detail that day, very nicely, great guy, i admire these guys willing to risk their lives. he asked for a few minutes of time, we were both looking at stage i was going to be, where i would be sittings, where president trump would be sitting and pointed out on the stage, in the area two separate locations
5:45 am
i could go if shots were fired. that had never happened before nor had we had audience l limitations, that was pretty odd, which tells me, there are actionable threats that probably, this is what director wray is talking about when he goes before congress. >> steve: tune into sean's show tonight, he will talk to the former president about what be went down yesterday. >> ainsley: and the guy playing golf with him. threat of venezuelan street gangs growing in the united states, we have a live report next. every day. just soak, activate and wash. to clean, tone and refresh. that's a 3x better clean. olay.

some democrats the president's determination to talk up his record risks dragging down you know who. here with reaction making money host, charles payne. good morning to you. the biden-harris record is problematic. >> very problematic. i was looking before i came down here on real wages after inflation, in the first quarter they inherited the average was $340 a week, now 328. for women it's gone down. savings rate over 19%, now under 3%. credit card dell -- it is hard to argue that anyone other than the elite have done well. >> we have kids who would like to buy houses, can't do it? >> sadder than that many are giving up on the idea of ever owning. when you give up you spend all your money today. live for the moment. you don't save.

listen, we need folks to save. -- if you give up on all of that the american dream it becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy. >> today at 2:00 big news. watch charles' show on fox business. we'll know whether or not they'll cut interest rates. >> we get a decision on wednesday. we'll walk people through it. the betting is swinging crazy. this affects everybody, all loans, homeownership. this is really very serious stuff. everyone will be touched by the decision this week. >> steve: because they watched inflation go from just south of 2% up to close to 10% and now it's down. >> we must be careful. the rates of growth have slowed. it's a lot different. inflation started here and it is here and it is still here and every time they come out with more inflation it goes higher. the rate of inflation is slow.
6:00 am
to your point they missed the whole thing. they started with a 25 bases point rate hike then 50 the next time. then they went 75. it tells you 75 is so unusual. that's a monster rate cut or hike. in this case a hike. behind the eight ball. i'm worried they could be again right now on the other side. >> steve: a lot of people say they waited too long to do it. >> exactly. >> steve: fox business will have commercial free special fed coverage from 1:00 to 4:00 this afternoon. making money will have the fed decision at 2:00. you said that comes up on wednesday with the powell pressers and charles' analysis as well. >> everyone should watch. it will be huge. >> steve: that will wrap up "fox & friends" for this very busy monday. now let's turn it over to "america's newsroom." >> how far away was the president?
