5:03 am
stops scheduled for michigan. you will see a lot of the candidate will be. arkansas governor sarah huckabee san sanders. michigan is auto worker state and united auto workers have endorsed kamala harris, there is a group of uaw members backing president, called auto workers for trump. they rejected support of electric vehicle. vice president history on this, she co-sponsored a bill that would require clean cars be sold by 2040. in 2020, she supported 100% of new car sales as ev's. hundreds of billions invested in

solar, wind . and invested in clean school buses and building factories for ev's. this week harris travels to michigan and wisconsin. all part of upper midwest blue wall state she needs to win to capture the presidency. she will speak to three jou journalists there, be interviewed in front of a crowd of journalists and students. >> lawrence: rich, quickly, there was a call from the current president to former president about the shooting. not only the shooting that happened before, the current assassination attempt, do we know how that call went? >> itthe white house said there
5:05 am
was a call that was cordial and respectful between the two men. they have spoken again after a potential assassination attempt on the former president's life. >> steve: it is not like the current president has much to do, only seen him in public a little bit. when is the next time they will strategically deploy him somewhere else? >> brian: today. >> we have not seen much of the current president. yesterday he was out campaigning. they have announced an economic campaign by current president to talk about accomplishments he did. there is reporting about how they have to be careful about the president not stepping on his vice president as she campaigning for his job. >> brian: thanks, rich. politico headline, joe biden wanting to boost legacy, the
5:06 am
dynamic generated anxiety among demo democrats. last summer he thought bidenomics was a sales tool, it fell flat on its face after sp spending 40 billion dollars. now it hurts kamala harris who doesn't know how to separate herself from joe biden. looks like policies are the same and they know numbers don't look good for her to sell. she's trailing former president by 12 points on that. >> lawrence: to that point, brian, what more could it do when she's not saying anything to contradict that. >> brian: she wants opportunity economy. >> lawrence: exactly, new generation of leadership, new way forward, she's not criticizing the biden-harris administration. she says, i'm not joe biden. when asked if she will do something differently, she
5:07 am
doesn't say anything. >> ainsley: why should we believe you are flip flopping when you are 59 years old and you have voted progressively, even more than bernie sanders. biden said he expressed relief trump was safe and said the secret service needs more help. hopefully donald trump will get more officers going to places where he's going to be and walking through in advance. closing streets close to where he will be, not 300 yards from the former president. >> steve: secret service is now part of it and has it been effective? when you look at the track record over last 68 days, not so much. >> ainsley: having a town hall in flint tonight with sarah huckabee sanders as the moderator.
5:08 am
we had sean on yesterday, he had a town hall after the first assassination attempt and everything was different, they didn't let anyone on the fleer or behind them. >> steve: i've heard given heightened security concerns, future schedules of both of the primaries is not being made public. >> brian: we know in union dale, he will be there tomorrow, 13,000 people there. 25,000 reservations. speaking of that, former president trump speaking publicly for first time since being targeted for a second time. >> ainsley: madeleine rivera has more. >> madeleine: more charges could be coming for ryan wesley routh, he is facing two federal gun charges, we're told were fast efts to write up and keep him in custody. he may have waited for 12 hours
5:09 am
near the golf course. here is body cam footage. they say routh never got a shot off to trump. the tree line has been a concern for some time. overnight trump on x space addressed the second assassination attempt against him. >> all of a sudden, we heard shots being fired in the air, probably four or five, it sounded like bullets. secret service knew it was bullets. they grabbed me and i would have loved to have sank that last putt, we decided let's get out of here. >> madeleine: routh was spotted laughing several times during the hearing. neighbors describe him as unusual, but did not expect him to do what he did over the weekend. >> the guns and stuff and all
5:10 am
and yeah, they were kind of weird, but they didn't bother me, i didn't bother them. >> madeleine: campaign rhetoric with democrats and republicans accusing etch00 other of using harsh language. trump says routh acted on rhetoric of biden and harris, we're waiting to hear a motive from police. >> steve: thank you. in the last hour, we had a former secret service special agent who was in charge of trump detail for a while and in fact, covered him at that particular golf course. he was reacting to mr. rowe yesterday saying that particular event on sunday was off the record. the guy we talked to said the former president would oftentimes go to the golf course, they would have a package ready to go.
5:11 am
even though it want on the schedule on sunday, they had taken preliminary precaution, if he goes golfing this day, we'll do this. >> brian: sunday on days off he's golfing. on a nice day, assumption is he's golfing. >> ainsley: sean said he was invited to go golfing with him sunday morning. they knew about it sunday morning, not sure why secret service wasn't out there hours before. >> lawrence: they are talking about not releasing schedules, this was not on the calendar, as well. you didn't secure this, i don't understand. >> ainsley: how did he know. >> steve: if it's nice in florida, he's probably going golfing. it is kind of's no-brainer. going forward, certain big things are on the president and
5:12 am
vice president's calendar people know of and there are other things they are not making public, they don't want to help anybody do that again. >> ainsley: reporters talked to neighbors in north carolina, in greensboro, where the alleged shooter used to live. he moved to hawaii in may with a girlfriend. one neighbor said he had a horse and a bunch of guns. one neighbor said a lot of people were afraid of him. when he moved to hawaii, he hugged her and hired his son to move him out. >> brian: he was doing everything except wearing a shirt. he wanted to fight in ukraine, they sent him back. a nurse just left a war zone, she said he's dangerous, he urges iran to assassinate iran.
5:13 am
he voted for him 2016, said he is a horrible person, urging to reply to joe biden to get his attention and give joe biden advice. he sat out there from 1:50 in the morning until the time his barrel was spotted sticking out of the fence line. they did say, we did not have anybody on the perimeter. they did not say they were pa patrolling the perimeter. both times, on the edge of three or four holes, you are next to families. i thought to myself, i know he's former president, have families been talked to? they might have a problem with him. this may be a place to take a shot at him, bin laden was trying to shoot him at the time. the al qaeda guys. that struck me. >> lawrence: donald trump is not your typical former president because of two things, one, he
5:14 am
could be the next president again. maybe give him, you can't have a cookie cutter system, there are sometimes things fall within the normal scope. number two, there are active threats when it comes to iran, not just him. >> brian: iranians are pros, sadly. >> lawrence: mike pompeo still has a detail -- >> brian: he came over and fbi realized who he was and got him to so licit an fbi double agent who said, you are under arrest. he pled not guilty, he's from pakistan, lived in iran and is in new york trying to get assassins to kill trump. >> lawrence: what secret service is saying now, after last time before this one, they upgraded his security to be presidential level. are you telling me, what took place, that is presidential level protection to have someone
5:15 am
within the scope for 300 yards? no way. >> ainsley: they did so many things right, they were there, they saw the alleged active shooter and fired shots and he was arrested because a woman was a witness took a picture of the license plate. donald trump was praising law enforcement, secret service for doing what they did on the golf course and praising the woman, the witness. >> steve: given threat environment that you're talking about, given the fact it is not just angry americans like this guy is, was, it is one of those situations where you got to figure going forward, they have gigantic, massive man-to-man perimeter around any golf course or the former president scales back golf until election day.
