that was, either. >> dana: we'll have more of that later on indeed. also this. claims of a biden-harris cover-up at the southern border raising new alarms for national security. a former border patrol chief is accusing the administration of suppressing information about the alarming spike in border crossings by special interest aliens with suspected ties to terror. i'm dana perino. good morning to you. >> martha: good morning, i'm martha maccallum. bill hemmer is off today. congressional testimony from a retired border chief alleges a disturbing pattern by the biden-harris administration ordering border agents to hide and not speak about the magnitude of the border crisis by shielding critical information from the press and the american public. that witness appeared in a powerful interview last night on hannity. watch this. >> we were not allowed to put any information out on any of the individuals, whether it be

"fox news sunday" anchor shannon bream joins us, great to have you with us this morning. i want to play another exchange. the immigration issue is so important to voters. we really have yet in the total 15 different forms of interviews that kamala harris has done haven't heard anybody press her on her record as vice president on this issue. here is a little bit of what happened on that topic last night with oprah. watch. >> specific steps to strengthen the border?
7:05 am
>> so it is a very important question. you know my background was as a prosecutor and i was also the elected attorney general for two terms of the border state. the bill would have allowed us to have more resources to prosecute trans national criminal organizations and it would have been part of the solution. and donald trump called up those folks and said don't put that bill on the floor for a vote. >> to answer the question, now that that bill has gone and hasn't passed, will you reintroduce that? >> absolutely. >> martha: shannon, your thoughts on that answer given what we know about the executive orders and the other things that were put in place by this administration in june. >> shannon: it would be interesting if she ends up as president debates on what the makeup of the senate and house is, if they call her bluff and put that back on the table because a couple of things.
7:06 am
it does include funding for the wall and other kinds of things she said she was absolutely against and called it a trump vanity project. but you know that a number of lawmakers, critics of it will say we were never going to pass that bill regardless of what president trump said. critics will argue it codified a bigger steady flow of people coming into the country and included magnets like work permits for people here before they had legal status and other things that would attract more people. it is a problem that neither party has figured out and settled just yet. she hasn't been able to articulate what she would do differently than president biden and how she would turn things around on that issue. we are lacking details still. >> dana: what behr the former border patrol chief who now is testifying under oath saying the biden-harris administration told him to cover things up? >> yeah. he says it is not only we know people are showing up on the terror watch list and the numbers have exploded from the information we have been able to get.
7:07 am
but he talked about that specific class, the significant interest aliens. those aren't just people you are a little worried about. according to the definition they have some significant tie to terrorism and we have no way to track the flow of those people coming in. he told, you know, under testimony under oath yes that he was told to keep those numbers under wraps. he himself was overseeing the release of hundreds of people coming illegally just in that san diego sector every day. he was told not to talk about it. we have heard f.b.i. director wray specifically mention all the red lights flashing and he worries what has come across our border. millions of people that we have no way to track or understand what their backgrounds are. >> dana: i'm thinking about we just saw a piece of that oprah event last night and there were so many celebrities there talking about how great the vice president is and supporting her. but this reaction from a michigan voter on that issue of whether or not that is something
7:08 am
that moves people is informative. let's watch. >> celebrities aren't there struggling or trying to find a job, trying to find food for their family. they are not -- it's not real life. we're looking for some real life endorsements. the celebrity endorsements just don't matter. >> martha: that was angela from michigan. >> shannon: we all probably know that's anecdotally true. our new fox polling shows north of 60% of people feel like things of grocery prices are a major problem for their family. gas up the car, go to the store, pay a p rent or mortgage are real world checks that will go a lot further in swaying how people end up voting. president trump has a 10-point advantage who would be handle to immigration, five points on the

economy. we'll see whether vibes that people get from their daily reality impact the race more. early votes are starting to come in today. >> dana: hard to believe that a week ago on sunday is when president trump faced another -- a second assassination attempt. it was after "fox news sunday." here we are a week later and maybe get more answers today. coming up this sunday, how do we advance the story from here? >> >> shannon: we'll have republican mike waltz and democrat madeline dean. bipartisan members of the house task force. have the first hearing next week after we hear from the acting secret service director this afternoon. we're told we'll be shocked and appalled about what they've uncovered. what level of protection are the candidates getting moving forward? there has been disputed information about that. we hope the task force members trying to do this in a bipartisan united way can give

7:34 am
investigatory agencies and our office and other prosecutors. it is about insuring that the american public and florida citizens have faith that we're pursuing every lead here and that there is trust and transparency in the process. while the governor and i both have concerns that the federal government may try to exclude at least dual track proceeding, i'm hopeful that they see the benefit in having florida involved especially at a time when you have a prosecutorial agency and investigators are that are currently prosecuting this president. it is awkward to say the least, i've said. i think it is important for all that we be involved. >> dana: let's look at ryan routh's sniper nest. this is new video that came in yesterday in the area he was.

7:36 am
we pursue that evidence, i think it is important that some sort of attempted murder charge be considered and pursued and whether there are other co-conspirators or nation state actors involved, it is all information i know the governor and i are very interested in as is the american public. >> martha: something that's really important in terms of other co-conspirators. one of the things that has been strange to me in both of these assassination attempts. they told us there was little they knew initially in the first 24 hours, they did know the people acted alone. that they weren't part of any state operation or anything outside of that. is there anything that you can do in your investigatory capacity to drill down on that and get more information? >> i think that's what the governor and i have been saying all along. it is important that florida be given the opportunity to fully investigate this.
7:37 am
we want to see the evidence that the federal government collected that day. we want to be a part of this so we can pursue our own independent charges and follow the evidence where it leads. that's important in any investigation. it is premature to make broad statements like that before an investigation is complete. so for the credibility, faith, trust in this investigatory process florida wants to pursue charges and be involved in the process and we're looking towards the federal government now to make sure that they do not stymie those efforts. >> martha: i hope they put some green cover on those open fence areas around the golf course for starters and any other areas. he spends a lot of time in florida. ashley moody, florida attorney general, thank you very much. great to speak to you today. >> great to be with you. >> dana: travis king who fled to north korea is set to be sentenced today. plus this. >> as i'm walking towards my
