>> steve: good morning, everybody. 7:00 here on the couch in new york city. brian is off today. thanks for joining us on this very busy monday, september 23rd, 2024. the this is "fox & friends." and let's take a live look right now at beirut, lebanon. where israel is urging evacuations of people there get out because the idf has already hit more than 300 targets there. israel's former u.n. ambassador sounding the alarm one hour ago. >> filed win this war. this is definitely going to inspire all the radical jihadists all around the world. >> steve: that sounds good. a live report from tel aviv and insight from a former idf spokesperson coming up in moments. >> lawrence: plus, biden's weekend was full of gaffes after the first lady's take the reins
4:02 am
at his cabinet meeting. who is in charge of the country right now. >> ainsley: actress and activist patricia heaton joins us live this hour. plus, i have a very special announcement today, so stay tuned for that it's coming up. >> steve: give us a hint. >> ainsley: you have to wait. "fox & friends" starts right now. >> lawrence: fox news alert right now the idf is striking hundreds of targets in lebanon after the iranian backed terror group launches more than 100 rockets into northern israel overnight. >> steve: israel's president says they are not seeking war but will continue to defend themselves. >> ainsley: nate foy is in tel aviv with all the details for us. nate? >> nate: hey, guys, good morning. for a fourth straight day massive airstrikes are happening right now in southern lebanon where we are learning in the past hour, according to the idf, hezbollah has fired into northern israel 35 times. so far today, the idf has hit
4:03 am
300 hezbollah positions and counting. take a look at new video of some of those strikes this morning. the idf is focusing on hezbollah-launching positions and weapons facilities. israel is also now putting out messages in arabic telling residents in southern lebanon to evacuate. here's idf spokesman daniel hagari this morning. >> we invite civilians from lebanese villages located in and next to buildings and areas used by hezbollah for military purpose, such as those used to store weapons to immediately move out of harm's way for their own safety. >> i will tell you what, a massive threat narrowly avoided this morning. the idf released this video of pilots -- israeli pilots noticing a cruise missile about to be fired from a home in southern lebanon. israel took out the terrorist before they could fire it. the idf says it was a dr 3 cruise missile with a 660-pound
4:04 am
war head attached to it. now, israel couldn't stop all of hezbollah's attacks. take a look at this next video. a direct hit in the north caused massive damage. in total, five people are hurt in northern israel as a result of this morning's strikes. now, israel is taking fire not only from its north, in lebanon, but also from its east. the almost resistance in iraq claims that it targeted israel with several drone attacks, none of them appear to have reached their target, former israeli ambassador gilader dan told "fox & friends" last hour the stakes in this war could not be higher israel failed to win this war this is going to inspire all the radical jihadists all around the world. we see them chanting in your streets, in america. >> so far this morning, according to lebanon's health ministry, at least 50 people have been killed in 300 injured in the airstrikes lebanon.
4:05 am
those figures do not differentiate between civilians and hezbollah terrorists. we will send it back to you. >> steve: nate foy live in israel with the very latest. now, let's be joined by former idf spokesperson jonathan. good morning to you. >> good morning. >> steve: as nate foy was just talking about. apparently, through surveillance, the idf was i have a to say. they just launched a cruise missile out of somebody's house. you don't see that every day. >> no. you don't. but in the coming days i will think you will see it more and more. that is the mode disoperandi of hezbollah. that is what they have prepared for many years. southern lebanon and many parts of central lebanon and the southern parts of beirut, the so-called -- controlled area. these areas are literally full of their locations where hezbollah hides weapons inside. what appears to be civilian
4:06 am
houses. and can i assure you that when one cnn other networks film it will look like civilian houses again nobody will know that inside weapons were stored and they were fired against israel. but, what really is happening here at the big level is that israel wants civilians to leave their homes. israel is presenting hezbollah with a very simple choice. it's either delink yourself from the situation in gaza and decide not to continue to do the dirty work of the islam republic of iran. or protect and ensure the future stability of lebanon. you can't have both things. you can't continue to be with iran and have a safe lebanon because, if you continue to fire rockets at israel, that will come at a catastrophic cost for lebanon. we're not there yet. we're still messaging. and this is still on the brink.
4:07 am
i don't think that neither israel nor hezbollah have crossed that brink yesterday yet. but we are getting very, very close. >> lawrence: colonel, in your former capacity. you have to be the diplomat, right? you are religion the military as well as representing the government. as we look at live shots this morning it. looks like the middle east is on fire right now. what does this mean for america? you have election coming up. administration asked for restraint from israel. you have got kamala harris who wants to be the next president who is asking for more restraint if an american president and kamala harris is elected, what is that going to mean for israel? >> i think that what our current situation now means for america is that america's most loyal ally in the middle east, that defends democracy and western values, that act north to enhance america's global standing, and its regional
4:08 am
power. that ally, israel, may be at the cusp of war. which will be a very, very difficult war for israel to fight. it will be a war that israel will defeat its enemy. but it will be different from what we have had against hamas, because hezbollah is way more powerful whether it comes to weapons capabilities, and personnel. and the consequences for israel will be dire. the consequences for the region will be very severe. and i think that from a simple american perspective, it will be an american ally fighting against a terrorist organization and against an enemy of america. which is iran. and i am confident as an israeli, i'm confident that this time again america will stand by israel, whoever is elected, america will stand by israel because israel fights for democracy and freedom. against the powers of evil. >> ainsley: all of us support israel. we are pro-israel. it's the holy land.
4:09 am
and you're seeing these images. we are praying for you all. i hope that we can prevent an all out war. and i hope that's not where we are heading. colonel, thank you so much for coming on with us. >> thank you for having me and have a good morning. >> god bless you. >> steve: indeed. live pictures out of beirut. >> ainsley: with the beach. you normally see images of the beach and supposed to be a place for family and fun. >> steve: it's the mediterranean right there. meanwhile, president biden is heading here to new york city today for the united nations general assembly, also known as unga around here. after appearing to have another gaffe on the world stage. >> ainsley: peter doocy is live on the white house for us. >> peter: white house officials insisted there would be little, little press conch of president biden's meetings over the weekend with the leaders of japan and india and australia. and the little bit that the press pool was allowed to attend got kind of awkward. >> i want to thank you all for being here and now -- who am i
4:10 am
introducing next? who is next? distinguished guests, the prime minister of the republic of india. >> peter: you can see in that clip, prime minister modi was sitting right behind president biden the whole time. it's unclear why that part of the program was so confusing although it is worth pointing out. the advanced stamps who have helped president biden at events like this over the years have moved onto the harris campaign to help the vice president. there is just one president at a time. that's why it's notable that both biden and vp harris are conducting their own diplomacy this week. they are hold going hold separate meetings with the united arab emirates president. we saw that when netanyahu came to the white house a few months ago. they had two different meetings. the vice president chose to take a harder line with him, netanyahu than president biden
4:11 am
did. and the vice president is going to skip the event at the u.n. general assembly. president biden will get one more chance in new york city on the east side to be the solo headliner of that event. but the big thing that he has been talking about for months that he wants to have sown up by the end of his administration is a cease fiber in israel with gaza and -- rather with hamas and with hezbollah, appears to be less likely by the day as evidence in that report right before us. >> ainsley: was the prime minister of india and japan and australia. they had to go to wilmington, delaware to a hotel there. why -- normally these events are held at the white house. it's an annual meeting. why do d. they have to go to the president? why didn't they do this in the white house? >> peter: no idea. there were many questions about that at briefings over the last couple days. reporters have just been told oh well president biden wants to show these guys where he grew up and all politics is personal. and some of the big events with
4:12 am
these guys who flew from these complete other side of the world were at president biden's high school where he -- it's not a regular place that high level diplomacy happens and it's not a place that they have gone while he has been president. but it's something that they wanted to squeeze in with the last four months for some reason. probably -- it would seem just convenience for president biden. >> steve: probably. peter, have you followed and been with joe biden for almost six years now. and for him to bark out that who's next? >> lawrence: he was angry. >> steve: have you seen him upclose better than anybody at this channel. some have suggested it's cognitive decline. others would probably try to defend the president just say well, he didn't know what was going on. was it a stage management thing or something bigger? >> peter: it's -- based on how i know these events go, it is probably said on a piece of paper right in front of him who was next. and he just was not consulting
4:13 am
it. but, the thing is, if he shouted out whoens next? there is no one with the authority in the chain of command to yell out the action of a president in that situation. i'm sure somebody was just telling him look down. >> ainsley: are you hearing that other world leaders are told in advance just protect him because we have seen this in the past? was it the g-7 when a leader had to come over and pull him back over. we saw. >> steve: nato. >> ainsley: exactly. are they being told you know, try to protect him and makes a look as good as possible? >> peter: haven't heard that specifically, but it does seem like these leaders are coming to the u.s. with the understanding this is a biden farewell tour. and they have to figure out what it means for their country if vice president harris wins or if former president trump wins in a couple months. >> steve: who is next? peter, you're done. who is next? >> lawrence: i'm sorry, just to wrap this up, thanks, peter, we just showed you live images of
4:14 am
what is happening internationally. and to have a commander-in-chief that the indian prime minister is having to save him. he is barking out whose next and as peter says protocol right in front of him and he didn't know. that is just troubling. this is a person that is over our military infrastructure and what we're supposed to do next and that our allies are asking us will you have our back? what is the next move? you know, we got intel assets all over the world now that he is responsible for their safety. and he doesn't know whose ne k . >> ainsley: he still has four more months left. >> steve: to peter's point, joe biden right now is really mad at israel. because he has wanted israel to wrap up what is going on with hamas for six months. it keeps going.
4:15 am
and in fact we have heard through reporting that jill biden has said very adamantly, wrap things up. but it just lingers and it's getting bigger we have two nuggets. one, it sundays like kamala harris is not going to go to the al smith dinner over at the waldorf his tore i can't. presidential candidates have been go going to it for a very g time. walter mondale ducked the event in 1994. other thing regarding jill biden say being we got to wrap this up maybe she is saying that because she is running the country. >> ainsley: she was at the cabinet meetings on friday. she was at the head of the table. here is a picture of her. i was watching "fox & friends weekend." and turn on the tv and i see her at the end of the table. i'm like where is he? why isn't he at this meeting? >> steve: there she is. >> lawrence: miranda devine writes who exactly is running the country? certainly appears to be jill biden and not joe biden it. goes to the overall question who
4:16 am
is running things and why hasn't it not been asked about the concealment of joe biden. everybody saw what happened on the debate stage. that was almost a revelation to people that hadn't been plugged in to mainstream media, that haven't -- because they hadn't been reporting on the story. if you haven't been watching fox. there has been no question to kamala harris on any of the interviews that she has done thus far. not with oprah. not with abc. it was definitely not focused on the debated stage. none of the cabinet members when they go on the sunday shows are asked about what is going on in the white house? there was a previous reporting done that the cabinet meetings were scripted. and that questions have to be presubmitted and now jill biden. >> steve: from the secretaries. >> lawrence: from the secretaries so they can have this well-coordinated. >> steve: looks like jill biden is on the middle of the table. >> ainsley: i didn't see that i didn't know he was there. >> steve: down at the end his wife the first lady doing all the talking. it looks essentially like she is the voice of translator.
4:17 am
okay. joe is nodding, let me tell you what the president thinks which is really what she says. that he was the thee sills of miranda devine's op-ed today in the "new york post." check it out ny post.com. she goes on to say whether it's jill or somebody else running the country, the bottom line is we don't have a functional president. this is a constitutional crisis. kamala harris is most to blame because she has the constitutional duty as vice president to ensure the president's brain is not awol. she also knows more about biden's cognitive health than anyone apart from jill and hunter biden. she has lunch with him regularly and often has boasted being the last person in the room when decisions are made. but she has been lying through her teeth to the american people about our president. >> lawrence: it makes me wonder, ainsley, all the reporting that came after the debate of all the mainstream media, they started reporting on it suddenly after what we saw in the debate. they were telling us what was happening in the room. all of that reporting has
4:18 am
stopped. joe biden is still there the moment they took him off the ticket, they stopped the reporting. >> ainsley: they don't care anymore. >> lawrence: was that the goal? it wasn't about transparency? it wasn't finally letting the american public know what was happening? was it just to get joe biden off the ticket? so now that you guys have kamala harris at the top of the ticket, you guys don't want to cover this anymore? >> ainsley: well, i think that since he is not running anymore and he is not the candidate. i don't know if they really care when he says whose next at the e podium. they used to worry how the optics were going to play out for the election. now they don't have to worry about that. miranda devine says in her article points out we do have four more years with him being our president. >> steve: months. >> ainsley: four months, yeah. sorry. should not be fate of the man can't remember where he is and what is he doing at any given moment. >> steve: think about it, if miranda devine got her wish joe biden would be replaced
4:19 am
immediately unfortunately little for the republicans it would be by kamala harris. then the vice president would become president and essentially would be an incumbent running for re-election. and that, would as we have heard from the experts, give her an advantage. >> ainsley: maybe not though. she would have to speak more. >> steve: well, she would. but just electorally, it would help her. >> lawrence: and i get your point of view. a lot of republicans share that point of view. but the issue frankly should not be political. basic functioning government. and i don't understand how we have been lectured about, you know, throats democracy. and the person that is supposed to protect our republic, who is supposed to be at the top of it cannot do it and everyone knows it. we are suppose to do so pretend like the country can just be on autopilot for four months when everything is happening when it comes to the economy and then international relations. okay, maybe the staff can help us get along for certain things. but, when it comes to where we stand on the world stage, you
