planning in holistic manner. >> brian: i don't know. plus, new york city mayor eric adams indicted in historic federal probe. what he actually -- what he says is actually behind the investigation is worth investigating. >> steve: it's holistic. >> lawrence: "fox & friends" starts right now and, remember, mornings are better with friends. >> ainsley: it's a "fox & friends" exclusive. after two years, former first lady melania trump sat down with us for a wide-ranging interview. she talked about the assassination attempts on her husband and her thoughts on kamala harris with just weeks to go until this election. she also shared why she chose this moment to speak out. >> ainsley: why did you want to tell your story in this book? >> i believe that it was a time that i tell my story and the truth. it is a lot of misinformation and falsehoods written about me.

happened. >> ainsley: then a few weeks later there is another attempt on your husband's life at your golf course. where were you and what was your reaction to this attempt? >> i was in new york city, actually. and i saw it on the television. and i saw it on television. i called again. and he was okay because he secret service were grade. the guys on the team they were fantastic. and i think both of the events, they were really a miracles. if you really think about it. july 13th was a miracle. like that much and he could, you know, he could not be with us. >> ainsley: he normally doesn't call for that one screen. he waits until the end of the speech. >> correct. >> ainsley: just looking at that screen allowed him to turn his

head. >> i think something was watching over him. it's almost like country really needs you. >> brian: i remember she penned that lighter out, right? >> ainsley: powerful letter. providential he turned his head. >> lawrence: you were standing in front and watching it. when she put an emphasis when she said i called hill again. it showed a little bit of frustration with the whole process. she was cleme sliment tri of set service at the same time did you get the sense of trauma in that moment. >> ainsley: we dive into it and she questions what's going on. why we were not getting answers and why they allowed him to go up on stage and give a speech when they knew that shooter or suspicious person was out there. she talked about why if they knew about this iranian plotted to assassinate the president, why they didn't sweep golf course in the second attempt. we have so much coming up. we have a longer piece we're

interview. >> brian: she is still considering doing "60 minutes," maybe she might want to reconsider that or just pass. watch. >> you know, gone is the day of everyone thinking they could actually live the american dream, so part of my vision for the economy is let's deal with some of the every day challenges that people face and address them with common sense solutions such as affordable housing. what we do in terms of giving benefits and assistance to state and local governments around transit dollars and look holistically at the connection between that and housing. and looking holistically at the incentives we in the federal government can create for local and state governments to actually engage in planning in holistic manner that includes prioritizing affordable housing for working people. >> brian: by the way, you have the job. the the american dream is dead, thanks for killing it. number two, the "new york times" says on kamala harris harris revealed little new about her economic plans in her 39 minute speech but she reiterated many

of the populist themes and kamala harris on the economic agenda speech that she gave prior to this interview. same thing. there's just no details. just how bad donald trump is on manufacturing. so i asked the brain room what he did before the pandemic he had 414,000 jobs -- manufacturing jobs. the lost 178 during the pandemic. they gained 700,000 plus, to their credit. a lot had to do with manufacturing coming back because of the stimulus that was put in there but she totally mischaracterized the trump agenda. her best plan is how bad donald trump is. >> lawrence: she didn't even seem to know what tariffs were as she explained her position there. i say it all the time i leave more dizzy every time she gives some sort of word salad it goes around and around in circles. to your point, steve, they were softball questions. they were softballs but it solicited word salads each time, and even though it was a softball question,.

>> brian: wow you with an answer. >> lawrence: you would think that she had some sort of answer that they have had time to prepare for this interview. it's a friendly interview. she didn't seem to have much meat though. >> ainsley: she s economy. stephanie asked her about raising corporate tax from 21 to 28. you want to do this. how can you ensure that u.s. companies are not going to leave our country and she said that ceos are supportive of raising the corporate tax to 21 to 28%. i don't know which ceo. one more thing, sorry. when asked about to those who don't support your policies, this was her answer. if you have the dreams and the ambitions and the aspirations of what i believe you do you're in my plan. you know i have to tell you i really love and i'm so energized by what i know to be the spirit and character of the american people but we value big. we is have aspirations we have dreams. >> brian: she loves small

business even though she never had one. >> steve: stephanie ruhle had a good question. she said what happens if the democrats lose the senate? how are you going to pay for all this stuff? because this -- all her stuff and just like donald trump's stuff all has to get passed by congress because the trump tax cuts of 2017 are going to sun set at the end of next year. and she kind of paused for a moment and then she talked a little bit how she was -- what are you talking about? we're going to have to raise the corporate tax, you know, and soak the rich and stuff like that. >> brian: how is she going to do that? >> steve: that's exactly right. if congress is lost by the democrats, if they don't control the senate, they are not going to be able to do any of that stuff. we played that little snippet of the soundbite from yesterday, and where she started saying holistic or holistically over and over. do you know what it reminded me of. >> ainsley: what? >> steve: like two weeks before my kids, when they were in high school, when they would take the sat test, they would try to work some sat words into dinner table

conversation. and. >> ainsley: use it over and over. >> steve: one of my kids would say mom, what genre pasta is this and stuff like that. it reminded me she got a new word. yesterday the word was holistic. >> lawrence: brian, isn't it sad that the chief executive of the senate doesn't understand how the legislative process works? she was -- the question was direct. what are you going -- certainly is how are you going to work with the other side if you lose? how are you going to reach some common ground? she just completely just skips it. starts going on a tangent that left us with no meaning. >> brian: because she has no idea. she said the way i'm going to pay for my $25,000, i'm going to give anyone who wants to get their first home $25,000 tax credit. how are you going to do it? raise the corporate tax rate. her if you don't have the senate? well they have to raise the rate. she hadding into say a long pause in between. it spainful to watch the soundbites.

i'm looking at it am i going to use that on radio. i can't tolerate it. it's too much. she has no answer and we all know she is filibustering. >> ainsley: what does she give to the middle class dad who has already bought his first house, okay? so he doesn't get that $25,000. >> steve: doesn't have a new baby. not starting a new business. >> ainsley: not getting $6,000 only get for first year of your baby. his taxes are going to go up if he owns a business they are going to go up 7% under her plan. then he will have to pay for all these other young people to pay for their $25,000 tax break on their houses for their babies and the 6,000. it's wonderful to give a tax credit for children, moms need that, i understand that. but she has to appeal to every voter. and that's just appealing to the mom who just got pregnant innocent innocent and next shear she is going to get the 6,000. and someone who has never owned a home before. >> lawrence: she is skipping a step. people can barely get groceries right now. they can't even think about the house right now. >> ainsley: you are exactly right.

>> lawrence: they are trying to afford the rent. they can't afford a mortgage right now. there has been no plan to address the current circumstance. buying a house is a dream. dreams are big. >> ainsley: do you know what the average cost of a house is? we did this two days ago. an article about it's half a million dollars for the average american house. >> steve: right. we were looking. >> brian: we are in a housing shortage. we stopped building during the pandemic. and now if you are upper class can you get a house. but there is no profit in lower classes and the builders have gone and done other things. there has to be an intelligent, knot nonpolitical approach to this. >> ainsley: they are not available people don't want to move because of the interest rate. >> steve: we were looking for answers last night. we didn't get them. in the meantime we woke up and this is the cover of the "new york post." it says i am a target. fox news alert. new york city mayor eric adams is facing calls from his own party to resign after being indicted for something by a federal grand jury. >> lawrence: so we're expecting that indictment to be unsealed some time this morning.

>> brian: chanley painter is here with more? >> good morning. details about the indictment are not yet public but they could be unsealed as soon as this morning. now, mayor eric adams reportedly is being charged with, quote: acting as an unregistered foreign agent for taking actions in his final capacity after receiving donations from foreign sources. the new york city mayor is not backing down, maintaining his innocence, saying he will fight the charges against him and continue serving the city. this news comes nearly a year into a federal corruption probe focusing largely on whether adams conspired with the turkish government to receive illegal campaign donations. where over the month the fbi raided several homes of his top aids, including one who was a former turkish airlines executive. they seized adams' electronics and key figures in adams' administration resigned including the police commissioner and the city hall chief council. so yesterday new york congresswoman alexandria ocasio-cortez called for adams

to resign hours before the indictment was reported posting, this quote: i do not see how mayor adams can continue governing the new york city. the flood of, threatening the government function, nonstop investigation also make it gobble recruit and retain a qualified administration. this indictment comes just months before adams faces a competitive primary challenge in his bid for re-election, guys? >> steve: and some of the people who will be his presumed primary challengers are already calling him for to drop out. chanley, thank you very much. >> brian: it's amazing, too. aoc before the indictment was handed down. she is like yeah, you should leave. is he like you are a do nothing congresswoman you fight it out because you are both right. let's see what happens. the indictment is handed down. he says i'm not going anywhere. and is he taking taken the stance is he trump. is he saying you are going after me because i criticized the government. because i said you have cost me $5.5 billion of illegal immigrant care and you have done

nothing. it's baffling that the federal government doesn't want to help. he meets with biden he walks out and says i have new news for you help is not on the way. that's the beginning of the investigation. are they linked? i was just talking to said rosenburg who has dinner all the time. he has no patience for it he is involved with other countries five other countries involved along with turkey that he has done business with that's going to come out this morning. all i'm going to say give him the benefit of the doubt until we hear started with fbi investigation in 2021, the question whether adams pressured fire department officials to stein off on opening a new consulate building for the turkish government despite safety concerns and did he take pricy flights and upgrades on turkish airlines? he says is he going to fight because he is innocent. and he is being targeted by the feds. listen. >> i have been fighting injustice my entire life.

that fight has continued as your mayor. despite our police, when the federal government did nothing as its broken immigration policies overloaded our shelter system with no relief, i put the people of new york before party and politics. now, if i am charged, many may say i should resign because i cannot manage the city while fighting the case. i can also understand every day new yorkers would be concerned that iy to the do my job while i face accusations. but i have been facing these lies for months since i began to speak out for all of you and their investigation started. >> lawrence: you know, ainsley, i'm not sure. we haven't read the indictment. we don't know where to stand ton it based on that. but i do find it interesting that the moment he starts criticizing the biden administration, they kicked him off the campaign. he was a campaign co-chair for

the biden-harris ticket. and they got rid of him. they didn't want to hear had from him. they stopped taking meetings with him. it was because he was critical of the illegal migrants entering his city. i also find it very rich for the department of justice where the chief executive joe biden him and his son had been influence peddling for years now. there is a whole investigation into that for them to go after him for a similar charge, potentially, i just don't -- i don't think it carries much weight with me. >> ainsley: well, first of all, grand jury, 99% of the time, they are going to indict. because they only hear the side against mayor adams. his attorneys aren't able to talk. they hear one side. of course they find most people. they indict most people. that's why they say you can indict a ham sandwich. when i heard mayor adams question the democratic party and their policies on immigration and heard aoc disagree with him, we all knew he was in trouble. because if you don't fall in line with the democrats, the big dog democrats, then they -- it

appears, will find a research to ruin your life. look what they did to donald trump. they were running on that. they were elected saying i'm going to get this guy. so this is very dangerous. if we want to have -- if we want to trust the legal system and we want to trust our judges. things like this can't happen. i don't know what the charges are i don't know if he is guilty or innocent. we will find that out. but can you even trust the verdict? what will they present? >> brian: i would say that either that -- one thing i have to say he has a bad eye for talent. a lot of people have had their phones taken away. the nypd commissioner is gone. chief council resigned over the weekend. his health commissioner was let go. the new york city chancellor left. other people around him, the brothers, the aunts, the uncles, at the very least he has got to get google and find out what they are actually about. the other thing is he keeps taking their phones how do they communicate carrier pay gones? they all don't have phones left. how do they communicate. how do you raise new commissioner acting commissioner

>> brian: check in with fox weather forecast. >> janice: they say is correct. 20-foot storm surge unsurvivable for parts of the big bend of florida. forecast to strengthen to a major hurricane in the next 12 to 18 hours. making landfall later on this evening. and we think, again, somewhere along the big bend, panhandle of florida. winds in excess of, perhaps, 12. as it moves inland. and we also have hurricane warnings for georgia. also want to point out we have a hurricane warning for tampa. so, this is going to be a storm that is 500 miles wide. so even though that cone is quite narrow. the effects being felt all along the west coast of florida. and the east coast as well. as it continues to impact land. winds over 110 miles per hour for duration of hours. you know, tallahassee is known for its beautiful tree canopy. those trees, a lot of them could come down. power outages not only for days, for weeks. again the storm surge, 8 to 20 feet.

>> steve: okay. fox news contributor katie pavlich joins us now. katy, i got a little bored last night watching it because i was expecting to hear some actual new stuff, we had heard she is going to give more details. more stuff. polls show that the number -- one of the number one things people want from her, more details noilt getting them. >> katie: do interviews really count if you are not going to answer any of the questions? did i watch the interview as did you and tried to find some things maybe there were more details about and actually some of her answers were just an indictment of her own policy and the record of the administration after the last three and a half years in office. and not just that but more broadly democrats in office. she said specifically that the american dream is out of reach. well, democrats have been in charge of the white house 12 out of the last 16 years also she continues to offer these programs. she talked a lot about housing,

for example, saying she wants in her administration to build 3 million new houses. well, if you look at the biden-harris administration. they also promised to connect broadband to every single american for $42 billion. not a single person has been connected through that program. they also promised to build 500,000 new electric vehicle charging stations to the tune of $8 billion. well, that's been costing americans a billion dollars per charging station because they have only built eight of them. so they continue to offer all these big, you know, projects without any substance or solid record behind getting these things done for the american people. and finally, i would say, you know, the vice president was asked why is it that more people trust donald trump on the economy than they do for you which, of course, is the number one issue in polling. i would say it's because donald trump is a businessman and they have an easy comparison of the last four years with the trump administration and they can see that their cost of living was lower and things are more

affordable for their families. >> steve: when she was asked about that she just attacked donald trump. do you know what. >> katie: heard a lot about donald trump not about her. >> steve: there were no hard questions in the msnbc interview and that's presumably why they booked her on there; however, her boss, joe biden, the current president, turns out he showed up on "the view" yesterday. and they actually asked him a good question about nancy pelosi stabbing him in the front. and how did that go? watch this. >> what have these past two months felt like and are you at peace with your decision? >> i am at peace. >> what is your relationship with speaker with nancy pelosi now. >> my relationship is fine. i never fully believed the assertions that somehow there was this overwhelming reluctance of my running again. i didn't sense that there were some folks who would like to see me step aside so they have a chance to move on. i get that. >> steve: okay, so it was a good
