the sun will come up and we will see catastrophic damage in florida and toward georgia. here are top wind gusts in georgia, 100 mile per hour in alma, valdasta, 96 miles per hour. power outages will be a big deal, trees will be down for florida and georgia and could see power outages for days and even weeks. 5 a.m. advisory, 75 mile per hour sustained winds, moving quickly. one good side to this storm , i is moving very fast, it is not lingering. it made way inland and now in central georgia. carolinas, part two of the story, a system moved through earlier this week and rainfall on top of that will give us potential flood emergency for

southern appalachians. they are warning of the worst flooding they have seen in recent memory. made impact on florida as category 4, does not take much to cause flooding and damage and that is going to happen again. w widespread potential damage up and down the coastline for southeast to mid-atlantic and ohio and tennessee river valley where rem know nants will stall and potentially bring more flooding. over a million power outages in florida, 683,000 in georgia. you mentioned tornados, we typically see tropical tornados, weak tornados, but can cause structural damage. we lost a life to a tornado yesterday. several tornado-warned storms for parts of south carolina and western north carolina. that is a concern. you see the green polygones

here, that is flooding and the pink polygon is a flood emergency happening now. from savannah, georgia to fayetteville, wilmington until 8:00 a.m. and potential for tropical tornados throughout the day. those are warnings for heavily populated neighborhood for charleston to cross and northeast of hendersonville. we will monitor this. catastrophic flood warning, a flood emergency happening just southwest of arsheville. there is potential for flooding and historic flooding for some of these areas and tributearies. flood alert, florida not out of the woods, now we're talking about southeast mid-atlantic,

petronis. in big bend region, wakulah county sheriff said this will not be a survivable event, there will not be a storm of this magnitude to hit wakulah in recent history. what are people waking up to this morning? >> it will be bad. we're in tallahassee, that probably saved tallahassee a lot of recovery. coastal areas, initial reports from urban search and rescue teams is it is going to be pretty gruesome. when you have that type of storm surge across low-lying areas, what has been recovered from the last two hurricanes will probably be destroyed all over once again. >> todd: how does your response

and preparation compare to previous storms and what do you expect when the sun comes up in terms of your response at that point? >> we brought about twice the number of personnel in place of urban search and rescue teams because of the size of this storm, the speed of this storm. we didn't know where it could make landfall south of the yucatan peninsula. hurricane ian, for example, we probably in 1600 first responders, with this storm, 1100. state of florida typically has 500, so we had to bring them different places, this could have gone into tampa or tallahassee or panama city. >> carley: what about people who lost power? i'm sure you have linemen ready to go to get power back on. when can they expect that to take place?

>> when talking to duke energy earlier this week, think about path of idalia and debby, both storms went similar path and similar affected area what is happening with helene. in the case with duke, they have essentially rebuilt grid between the last two storms. it is s stronger than it has ev been. the bounce back of their expectation will transition smoother because equipment is newer. >> todd: you heard carley ask janice dean about storm surge prediction of 20 feet. you spoke to crews doing damage assessments. we have to wait until the sun comes up, with regard to storm surge, what are you hearing from reports you are getting from your teams from around the state? >> urban search and rescue teams

in orlando or ocala, they were out of harm's way, they are super heroes, they wear capes and they refuse to wait too long. they know every second counts. they went up under the storm to do advance surveying of where teams need to be placed. these men and women need to rest, but there are some that are so passionate, they live off of saving lives. you imagine the adrenalin rush putting someone together with their family, this is why they assign up for the job. we'll dpet reports showing what is happening, helo operationies were ready to go to the barrier islands. you had those too stubborn or

>> we did not receive direction from the secret service as far as how they wanted our sniper team to deploy or what their mission would be. >> a former fbi director joins me now. chris swecker, good morning. we learned about leadership issues and lack of communication on july 13th, what is your assessment after listening to local law enforcement yesterday? >> yeah, it is indictment of secret service in general, particularly leadership. a lot of people on the committee is thinking this is resource problem. this is not a resource problem. secret service is fully funded for protection for 2023 and diverted 60% of resources to other things other than core mission of protection. they were commplacent and have been for a while. they have been getting by on their mystique and that deterred

would-be assassins and that no longer exists. they became commplacent because there was nothing bad happening. now the threats with trump. they were apathetic against trump detail, did not staff it and did not put the a team on the trump detail. not even a comp upon tent team. it is catastrophic, not just cheatle at the top. including deputy director who seems to be auditioning for the job. >> carley: you are talking about ronald rowe, he said this could have happened because of lack of imagination on part of secret service agents. agents probably never imagined something like this could happen and would caught flat-footed.

>> definitely, when nothing bad happens over the course of how many years of events, they get complacent. you can't take away from the courage of agents that jumped on trump. they should have done that much sooner when they knew there was a threat. it is unheard of not to have a joint command post and then you embed someone with state and local police officers so there is seamless connectivity, and communication and it is realtime. the threat should have been communicated to detail on the podium. they should have been jumping on him sooner than they did. these are micro-details, it's a bigger problem than just that. >> carley: we just reported trump is holding a rally in wisconsin tomorrow. they are moving it indoors because of lack of resources.

head aeft east, most of that was fine. downed trees on west side. we ran into traffic. traffic has been at a complete stop. when i talk to some people, they said they have been here two hours. they started to see traffic 3:00 this morning eastern time, to the east and west, traffic goes on for miles. we've been watching everybody hang out, turn off cars, park, walk around. westbound side, traffic looks like it is up and running. i-10 has a lot of issues further east you go. we are in madison county, they have 100% of outages, east of tallahassee, big bend, waking up in dark, significant damage and downed trees. a lot of side highways. we are trying to get to lee. helene made landfall near perry. we are just north of perry not

neighbor has been boots on the ground since the surge started rolling in. there is water, lots of it. >> you said you expect kashes -- kane's to be a total loss. are you hearing reports, how have you made that determination? >> right. the photo you are able to see now of our flood levels, that is up about two feet from idalia from what we see on the side of the building. with idalia, you could see the mural on the front. we are going based off of what we can see. it is not safe to get there right now, biggest difference of idalia and helene, we had power

most evening and could access cameras. lights you see are on solar power. we're completely blind other than what has been sent this morning. it is much higher. >> todd: yesterday, this was your fear, you said idalia was 7.5 feet and we are worried this will go higher and clearly according to videos, it has. any updates on your other restaurants? >> we have not been able to get definite. i spoke to the mayor this morning, he believes plaza is dry, he is unable to get to it between rescue and safety of himself and others. we're actually about to gear up and head out and see if we can get over there and start to assess the damages and lend a helping hand if need be.

the southern border right now? politically, do you think this visit is smart to do or highlight how absent she was for the past three years? >> i agree, it highlights how absent she has been. and to blame president trump for something that took place months ago is her way saying trump has more power outside the white house than she has inside the white house. she is underestimating power of accountability. every time she shifts blame or distances herself from the title of border czar, message she is sending, i'm not capable of handling this crisis, i am not equipped to do it, i don't care to do it. i understand it is high on the priority list of americans, they are impacted by results of these

decisions. it puts us in a peculiar position and shows she is not the person to clean it up and fix it. this is sending a clear message, it hurts more than helps her because she is visiting and casting blame and putting off the decisions to someone who wasn't in the white house. it is silly. >> carley: art, yesterday donald trump spoke about the border and held a press conference in light of vice president harris' visit today. what he plans to do if he becomes president, stop all migrant flights, shut down all entries through the phone app, bring back title 42. if he does accomplish those things what happens to southern border krozing numbers? >> the numbers will go down. the numbers will go down with this rubric alone.
