for the people and families who, you know, who lost their children. it is a big tragedy. >> have you changed your thoughts on how this war should end what you think should be done or do you still stand by? >> i learned a lot. i think i haven't changed from the standpoint we both want to see it end and a fair deal made. it has to be fair. i think it will happen at the right time. i think it is going to happen. the president wants it to end as quickly as possible. he wants a fair transaction to take place and i think -- right now i'm campaigning so right now i don't have much to do with it other than we're doing very well in terms of the campaign and i've been saying that i believe if i win we'll have a very fair and i think -- actually rather rapid deal. it should stop and the president wants it to stop.
8:01 am
i'm sure president putin wants it to stop. that's a good combination. so we want to have a fair deal for everybody. >> what do you envision as fair? >> that's too early to say that. i have my own ideas and the president has definitely his own ideas. it has to be fair. >> this war shouldn't be started. i that i the problem that putin killed so many people and, of course, we need to do everything to pressure him to stop this war. he is in our territory. that's the most important. he is in our territory and how to stop the war to pressure him as we can. we have to do it. >> do you think that the u.s. is the best -- >> the leader of support. you ask the leader. really, we have the support of the united states and thank you to the people of america and
8:02 am
understand that united states can be the leader through any negotiation. you know that we have the peace summit and we want to organize the second one and we can end this war. >> will there be another meeting in the near future. >> it could be. this is a war that should have never happened. it should have never happened. and it wouldn't have happened. it's a shame but this is a war that should have never happened and we'll get it solved. it is a complicated puzzle. very complicateed puzzle but we'll get it solved and people get on with their lives. too many people dead. too many beautiful cities, i've seen those cities, so beautiful. i don't know how you can ever rebuild them the way they were. it's not possible. it's a beautiful country,
8:03 am
beautiful weather, beautiful everything but we have to get this over with. it is a war and the president -- this is a war that should have never happened. thank you very much. >> thank you very much. >> the second time this morning we've watched former president trump and the current candidate for the presidency and the president of ukraine zelenskyy speaking and putting their heads together on what the future could look like with regards to that conflict if former president trump becomes president again. and it is interesting. you heard zelenskyy there moments ago saying about putin, he is in our territory. and he has killed so many people. and then you heard former president trump talking about the beauty of ukraine. president zelenskyy said you should come. he would like him to come back to see what the country is like now and it is a complicated
8:04 am
puzzle as president trump just said. there is a lot of -- a lot of sensitivities around all of this. but it is good for all sides to be talking and to be talking about solutions. that's what we just saw this morning from former president trump and president zelenskyy of ukraine. so in the meantime, we want to take you to this. a retired army lieutenant colonel and battalion commender and executive director of restore liberty. thank you very much for joining us this morning. your thoughts on what we've been watching transpire here this morning. >> i think one of the things that sticks out to me most, martha, is the fact that these world leaders are starting to talk to president trump in the absence largely of the biden white house and harris, who is on the campaign trail and not engaging on anything, either. they are coming to talk to president trump because they see a road ahead where the future
8:05 am
seems to lead towards a potential trump presidency and they want to be able to hedge their bets and say we need to be able to talk to him and get things started quickly if he occupies the white house again come january of next year. i think that's just going to continue as the biden-harris white house largely disappears from the world stage and in many ways disappears from the domestic stage right now as well. >> he did meet with the vice president yesterday and says she stands by ukraine and continue to support them militarily and something along the lines of stand by indefinitely in this situation. in terms of what i find interesting is the language around talking at this point. that there is it feels on all sides. because earlier president zelenskyy was very dug in saying he would only accept the reclaiming of crimea and all the areas that had been taken over
8:06 am
by russia. do you think there is flexibility on that now? what is your take? >> i think he is realizing that he doesn't have a choice. he has to display some flexibility. he has to live in the real world. this is war that started with russia having a 5-one advantage every most ever -- whether it be people or weapons and economies. and that's just the reality that he is going to have to work through. he knows that. so there is -- i think there will always be the willingness for people to realize they have to talk in order to end these wars . both sides don't seem to be on the verge of any clear victory and it's just the way forward now. along the lines what does trump do? he will come in and say we have to be able to find a way to make a deal. >> martha: as i said, so many people have been killed in this horrific war that started several years ago now. i want to talk to you a little bit about israel.
8:07 am
we heard from benjamin netanyahu earlier today and their defense forces continue to strike hezbollah targets in lebanon. the terror group has been firing missiles at tel aviv and haifa, areas that we have not seen this kind of kinetic action in and it is a very frightening situation. israel has mobilized additional troops on their northern border. the prime minister has sent mixed messages for a 21 day cease-fire across the israel/lebanon border. last hour he laid out quite clearly at the united nations israel's mission. >> hezbollah is the quintessential terror organization in the world today. it has tentacles that span in all continents. it has attacked israel viciously over the last 20 years. in the last year completely unprovoked. i said to the people of lebanon this week, get out of the death
8:08 am
trap that hezbollah has put you in. don't let -- we're not at war with you, we're at war with hezbollah, which has hijacked your country and threatens to destroy ours. as long as hezbollah chooses the path of war. >> martha: colonel, we look at these images right now. israel strikes hezbollah target in northern lebanon before and after some of the recent strikes on their targets. increased hostilities continue to raise a lot of fears about a wider regional conflict. here is one headline today. middle east moves toward full scale war with biden and congress heading for the exits on this. president biden is already on his way to delaware for the weekend. both chambers of congress are out of session until after the election now, which is extraordinary. i will talk to speaker mike johnson later at 3:00 on this
8:09 am
story. your take on how this is being handled, colonel. >> well, unfortunately it doesn't seem to be handled by the white house at all. maybe not even very well. so that is my top concern with everybody vacating washington, d.c. i don't think that will drive the decision cycle of netanyahu and the israeli people to do what they need to do in order to achieve the goals that netanyahu laid out. return the israeli people back to the northern regions of israel that they were removed from at the beginning of this conflict. he seems to be willing to engage with this 21-day cease-fire as an idea because he agrees with the aims of moving the is lease and achieving is peace even potentially with hezbollah itself. he is not willing to give hezbollah 21 days just to seek advantage in the process of a cease-fire in the first place. that's critical.
8:10 am
he made it very clear in his speech as well that israel has the ability to weak out to other nations in the middle east. if they strike israel, israel will strike back. he is not willing to give up any of the advantage that israel has gained through the process of what they've been doing to decapitate the leadership of hezbollah inside lebanon. i don't blame him for doing that. >> martha: it's been very effective. how much progress he feels they've made against hamas and hezbollah and the leadership and hitting these entities where they strike from. thank you very much, colonel. thank you for being here today. so this is enormous story now is hurricane helene, which has made history and not the kind we like to see. it is category 4 storm. it was the strongest on record to slam into florida's big bend region on the gulf side there. it is now a vicious tropical

floodwaters during the night and this to me is the most extraordinary scene. one member of the fox weather family also jumped into action. meteorologist bob van dylan was covering the storm this morning when we heard screams from a woman who drove her car in rising floodwaters, trapped and screaming for help. he called 911 but they had not arrived. he was a distance from her at that point. he knew they were very busy the rescue crews and decided to take matters into his own hands and swam over to her and carried her back to safety after a really grueling effort to get her out of the car. her seat belt was on and the window open a tiny bit and he saved her life. it's safe to say that he saved this woman's life. fox weather meteorologist is with us now in tampa, florida.

this is tough work for everybody involved. michael, tell us what's going on in tampa. >> yeah, martha, unbelievable. we saw in spots over a seven foot storm surge. this is exactly what that storm surge can do. you can see the waterlines on these people's residences, all of the debris that was washed out. real quick sierra was joining me. >> the adrenaline kicked in and i just thought i had to get out. >> have you ever seen anything like this before? >> not at all, no. you see it in movies and tv but never in person. >> it is an unbelievable sight. that's really what we've heard from a lot of folks that are still trying to clean up, still trying to recover because again, lots of destruction especially because of that literally record-setting storm surge that

8:15 am
in so he had to get her to get the window lowered. there was so much pressure on the car. her seat belt was stuck initially. how terrifying for this woman to be in this car. the way people lose their lives in these moments, i hate to say it but it's true. thank god he was there and heard her cries. as he told us, the 911 calls were overwhelmed and couldn't get to everyone who needed their help. this woman is going home today thanks to bob van dylan. such a moving, scary story. we cover these storms and there is a big hug between them. these impact people's lives and people lose their lives in them. so we really think that bob is an extraordinary hero today and wanted to share that with you. fox corporation has made a donation to the red cross

cb. sources telling fox federal prosecutors have indicted multiple people tied to iran for the hacking of the trump campaign. last week u.s. intelligence officials said iranian malicious cyber actors in late june and early july sent unsolicited emails to individuals associated with president biden's campaign. an excerpt taken from stolen material from president trump's campaign. there is currently no information indicating those recipients replied. meanwhile the house task force on the july 13th trump assassination attempt in butler, pennsylvania, had their first hearing yesterday and the lawmakers on both sides of the aisle ripped the secret service for quote preventable failures in planning and communication. this comes after intel officials warned the trump campaign that he continues to have threats from iran. >> we also have to start looking

>> martha: texas officials ramping up efforts against tren de aragua. their tentacles have reached as far north of new york city. pieces of the group have been found all over the country. abbott said they are a terrorist organization. brook taylor is reporting from el paso. >> hi, as you just mentioned we're seeing this gang nationwide. it has become a massive issue. the reason why you are hearing el paso being referred to a hot spot is because more venezuelans are coming through the border here in the el paso sector both
8:47 am
illegally and legally than anywhere else across the border. that is according to cbp data. just in the last few days, take a look at this. border patrol arrested this man, a tren de aragua member. nationwide 23tda members have been arrested by border patrol this fiscal year. while that number might not seem like a lot. that's because the number of suspected tda members is much higher. the most difficult part now is confirming gang members. it is a new gang and venezuelan government doesn't work with the united states in sharing criminal histories. we drove around with texas dps lieutenant carter. she tells us she has seen her share of tda activity here in the form of chases with smugglers and stash houses. texas dps is leading the charge right now with creating a database from scratch to be able to verify those tda members. >> when it comes to the tda
8:48 am
gang, when you hear sex trafficking, human smuggling, drug operations it should be concerning like any other crime in our community, this is very alarming because they are coming across our borders. >> governor abbott says more than 100 suspected tda gang members are involved in the el paso riot in the spring when hundreds were caught storming the border and assaulting the national guard. a district attorney said they charged two trick da members from those riots. >> it's important to understand they're not staying here in el paso. they are spreading throughout the country. this is a nationwide problem. and the entire nation needs to understand that. >> abbott right now is offering a $5 thousand reward for any information that leads to the arrest of a tda member.

>> martha: thank you very much. so we're getting an update from the governor of north carolina. this is governor kemp but we will hear from lloyd cooper as well in moments. a number of states have been impacted in this situation. we'll listen here. >> they have identified 115 structures that are heavily damaged that we know there are multiple people trapped inside. again we just want to urge people especially in those areas to be patient. we have a lot of people calling us because they might have a tree across their road and their neighborhood may be blocked. but our priority is getting to medical emergencies and facilities like hospitals, nursing homes and others that need critical help and don't have power. georgia d.o.t. is reporting 152 road closures across the state and at least two interstate
8:50 am
closures currently. i-16 in lawrence county and then i-20 just outside of augusta and mcduffy county. 1300 traffic signals are out. cruise are accessing the damage and restoring access where it's safe. they are still assessing at this point. we know we'll get more information later in the day. we are deploying generators, to help power traffic signals. from d.o.t.'s perspective some of the northwest georgia crews, the damage wasn't quite as bad on the roads. they are now shifting to south georgia to help our hardest-hit areas. we're in pretty good shape on bridges around the state, which is good. our port, while it has limited operations, it is operational and has been the entire storm. one thing to note up in
8:51 am
northeast georgia in raymond county, there is going to be a water release out of lake rayburn because of the flooding that is happening. we are evacuating folks downstream from that so they are not cut off from the rest of the community. if they don't leave now they'll be stuck there for at least a day or multiple hours and the director can give you more information on that. just be aware there will be a water release at lake rayburn. we have had some 911 disruptions. even the state operations center here earlier had issues with power and we know that's the case around the state. power outages, we have 1 million customers that are currently -- 1 million meters, much more customers but 1 million meters. >> martha: we'll keep an eye on that. atlanta getting hard hit.

other breaking news to bring you in on right now. it is happening in the middle east. a new attack by israel into lebanon and trey yengst joins me now with the details that he has so far. hi, trey. >> martha, massive breaking news now out of the middle east. fox news has learned that the israeli military targeted the leader of hezbollah, nasrallah in the suburbs of beirut. a massive explosion was reported there this hour. israeli fighter jets overhead. we are learning this information in realtime. it is unclear if the leader of hezbollah nasrallah was killed in the strike. again, the latest information that we have fox news has learned that nasrallah was the target of this large strike in the lebanese capitol in beirut. he is responsible for firing thousands of rockets into
8:53 am
northern and central israel since october 8th. he is a man who took over for hezbollah leadership in 1992 and has led the organization since. you might remember the second lebanon war back in 2006 following that 31-day conflict nasrallah said had he known the destruction that would come to lebanon he would not have launched the war that took place then. if this is confirmed and the death of nasrallah is confirmed here in the middle east, it is an unprecedented moment. remember what it follows. it follows a speech earlier today by israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu at the u.n. general assembly and also a visit by israel's defense minister galiant to troops in the northern part of this country staging for the possibility of a ground operation into southern lebanon. so right now we're waiting to gather more details. you can see right there, there is smoke rising. i believe that's a skyline shot
8:54 am
from beirut following this massive strike. journalists on the ground in the lebanese capital report hearing multiple explosions and the top spokesman for the israeli military said publicly the target of this strike was the command and control center underneath a building in the lebanese capitol. fox news learned the target of the strike was hezbollah leader nasrallah. >> martha: thank you very much. this is an enormous story with huge implications as we wait to find out what the impact of that strike was on command and control centers in beirut, lebanon and as trey has just confirmed, the target was nasrallah, who has been in power since 1992 in lebanon as the head of hezbollah. he has lost almost all of his deputies underneath him.
8:55 am
i think two of the main core leadership underneath him remain after these hits in this current and ongoing war. we have a retired army lieutenant colonel joining me now once again. your reaction as we wait for further information whether or not indeed nasrallah has been hit. colonel, excuse me. >> glad to be back. this does not come as a surprise at all. if you look at the chain of command structure for hezbollah, there weren't very many people left to target in the first place and nasrallah is number one. he had to know that his life span was limited if he kept himself within reach of israel. mass m -- massod is good at this. if they were not successful in getting nasrallah, i can guarantee you won't see very much more of him in the future anyway. he will have to go to ground to
8:56 am
try to survive. >> martha: the targets have been the leadership of hamas and the leader of hamas taken out in a house in tehran. and then sinwar was moved up into that leadership position in hamas. so you can see this obvious strategic aim of israel to basically cut off the head of these groups, these terrorist groups in both of the places that surround them. i heard earlier at the u.n. president netanyahu talking about the seven-front war that israel fights on. it's a very small country and this is a very desperate situation. >> it is. i think the best way to get americans to understand what they are truly dealing with is to let people know israel is the size of new jersey. can you imagine being in that state surrounded on four sides of nations that are trying to eradicate them? this idea of the river to the
8:57 am
sea just making israel disappear is not something they've ever given up with groups like hamas, hezbollah and houthi rebels and tehran's mullahs. this is going to continue and netanyahu and his team have rightly realized the only way to defend israel to is to remove its biggest threats. not that they want to but they have to. >> martha: netanyahu said we don't have a choice, we have to win this war. the alternative is wiping israel off the map, as you say, from the river to the sea. the chants that we have heard in this country, colonel. and we are hearing them now outside of the u.n. there are enormous protests around the united nations, near the hotel where president netanyahu is staying. the streets have been clogged at times over the course of all of this. what do you make of his plea to americans to see things from his
8:58 am
perspective and the protests that we have seen that have been so intense here at home? >> first of all, i think we need to focus on the fact that many of these protests and protestors are paid for in some way by iran and others. the reports that are spreading across the country that will becoming more and more obvious to the american people. we should all realize the fact that's what's happening with many of these. it does not mean that everybody there is paid and that they are not willing to be there. unfortunately. the message that americans need to take away from netanyahu's speech is that israel will continue to do what it has to do to secure its own sovereignty and secure its own nation. ultimately that has to be the goal and he has demonstrated he will keep doing it. he has told americans this is a fight between good and evil. and they are clearly fighting for the safety and security of israel but in the end this is true that they are fighting on
8:59 am
behalf of democracy and decency for all nations. because that's the real line in the sand. who do you stand with? he made that clear. >> martha: who do you stand with, the united nations made it very clear today as well. there were many countries that stood up and walked out of the room in a way that we've seen some of that in the past but this was a very large contingency of countries that left today and netanyahu pointed out that they have been lobbying -- hezbollah lobbing thousands of missiles since october 7th. the barrage of missiles that came over in april and also moved thousands of israeli families out of the north of israel. they had to leave because of the intense friction on that border and he wants them to be able to come back. just quickly if you can, you know, he is fighting an uphill battle of public relations with many groups here, sir. >> he is.
9:00 am
he goes into the united nations general assembly knowing his audience is not the people in the room. they are sending their message walking out but his message partially to the members who are sitting in the chairs who remain, but his bigger message is to everybody specifically in the united states and western democracies and letting them know very clearly that where he stands, where israel stands and what they will continue to do regardless. he made it also very clear that he considers the united nations to be kind of a joke. >> martha: he did. i correct myself. prime minister netanyahu. i said president. excuse me for that. obviously we will cover this story from beginning to end here and we thank you very much for being here. we're waiting to find out if indeed nasrallah has been hit in lebanon. so we'll continue to cover this throughout. thank you very much, colonel. thank you for watching "the faulkner focus." i'm in for harris
