we here in the u.s. don't get to see. you're talking with the people as well. what is the feel, what you're hearing on the ground after this attack? well, i think there's a lot of satisfaction from the israeli side of it, from the from the lebanese side of it. we haven't really seen that much. and we can't we can't communicate with those people directly. but if you watch them on social media, even the major attack, they were horrified by it. and they they thought of it as an indiscriminate attack, and they called it an act of terrorism. well, when you have a punishing airstrike and a large airstrike like this, it's going to be less discriminant. so they're going to call that horrified. but people here in the north are going to be pleased with it. mike tobin, we appreciate your time. you're going to stay with us. trey yingst is going to stay with us as we approach the top of the hour. we're going to take a bit of a pause here as we start another hour covering this massive breaking news. and this is a fox news alert. i'm chanley painter,
2:01 am
live in new york. the israeli army now confirming that hezbollah's leader, hassan nasrallah, is dead. the news comes hours after the israeli military struck hezbollah's headquarters in beirut, where it was believed he was holding meetings. it was the biggest blast to hit the lebanese capital in the past year and could potentially push the escalating conflict closer to full fledged war. joining us now, of course, fox news chief foreign correspondent trey yingst there on the ground in israel. let's start with the possible escalations at this point with this massive breaking news. trey yeah. chandler good morning. significant breaking news out of the middle east as the israeli military confirms that the leader of hezbollah, hassan nasrallah, is dead following israeli strikes targeting the lebanese capital of beirut yesterday. ali karaki, the southern command of hezbollah, was also killed in the strike
2:02 am
at what the israelis say was a command center underneath a residential area in dhaka, a neighborhood in the southern suburbs of beirut. this is significant for many reasons, and we've already started to see some of the hezbollah response with rocket sirens sounding across not only northern israel but also deep into the west bank. today, as at least one surface to surface missile was fired by the iran backed organization, the americans throughout the week have been calling for de-escalation. there was talk of a possible 21 day cease fire between israel and hezbollah. all of that is off the table now. israel's prime minister benjamin netanyahu, returning to israel today from the united states following his address to the u.n. general assembly. this is an indication that the security situation will require all of israel's top leadership to meet at israel's version of the pentagon, the kirya in tel aviv, to determine what comes next. because israel doesn't know what comes next. they are
2:03 am
preparing for a variety of possibilities, understanding that hezbollah still has capability to launch missiles and rockets deep into israeli population centers, and also understanding that the iranian regime has just lost the leader of its top organization, its top proxy in the middle east, following the targeting and killing of other top proxy leaders, including hamas leader ismail haniyeh, in tehran, the iranian capital, earlier this year. that iran has still not responded to. and so as we look forward here to what comes next, there are a variety of options on the table. we can expect the americans to urge diplomacy to prevail. but the reality on the ground here is that the conflict continues. and we should note that overnight, it wasn't just the strike that targeted the leader of hezbollah, hassan nasrallah. it was dozens of israeli airstrikes targeting hezbollah positions in the lebanese capital of beirut, and also airstrikes that were targeting southern lebanon. here in haifa, about 17 miles from the border, we could hear the explosions in the distance as
2:04 am
the israelis went after hezbollah rocket launching units and also other weapons storage positions. and this is an indication that the israelis have truly taken the gloves off. we should also note, in the course of our reporting here, two very important things. the israelis, by targeting this residential area of beirut to take out hassan nasrallah, likely killed dozens, if not hundreds of civilians in the process. we are waiting to confirm the numbers that are attributed to local media at this hour, and additionally, hundreds of civilians have been killed in southern lebanon. and we heard from that doctor at a hospital yesterday indicating that medical facilities there are overwhelmed, as the un warns of a catastrophe for lebanese civilians. there is an ongoing evacuation of civilians, not just to the north of lebanon from the south and these border areas that have seen intense israeli airstrikes. but also even into neighboring syria. and that really gives you a sense of just how dire the situation is for the lebanese population. but again, the latest information that we have. hezbollah leader hassan
2:05 am
nasrallah is dead following israeli strikes in beirut yesterday that information, confirmed to us by the israeli military, who made an announcement this morning, also indicating that the southern command leader for hezbollah was killed in that same strike. jelly tray. thank you. so much. a major turn of events. we're going to turn now to fox news foreign correspondent mike tobin on the phone from israel as well. mike tobin, what does this mean for the terrorist organization moving forward? it means this terrorist organization moving forward. and when we say terrorist organization, that means that the state department has officially designated them as a terrorist organization. this is an organization that has fired, has blown up embassies around the world that killed 241 u.s. service members back in 1983, as they evolved into the fighting force and government entity that they are now. what it means in the short term is chaos. the entire top of their command structure is gone, but they still have resources. they
2:06 am
still have the backing of iran. the difficulty for iran right now is who does iran start talking to? who will take over the reins from hassan nasrallah and start commanding these forces as military force that is in disarray. they've been subject to unrelenting military israeli airstrikes day and night. that is trey mentioned from haifa. we can hear them taking place in the south of lebanon, and then taking out much of the hezbollah arsenal that they have placed around lebanon and south of the litani river, in violation of the un resolution that ended the last war in lebanon, but it just remains to be seen how much disarray is in their ranks and how much of an arsenal hezbollah still has left. the alarms have still been sounding as far as far south as the west bank, indicating that the potential of fire coming in.
2:07 am
we'll see how much sympathetic fire you'll get out of the iranian proxies in other parts of the region, as they have shown, they have the ability to fire on central israel. even the south of israel, as the houthis fire. we'll see what happens next. so the threat is not gone. what you have guaranteed is chaos among the ranks of hezbollah. and see if they still have the kind of strength to hold the people in the south of lebanon at bay as far as the people in the north of israel. they're happy about this. they wanted this war. they're tired of being forced from their homes. and one of the things that they'll point out as you talk to them, hezbollah picked this fight. there was a fight in gaza and hezbollah started firing on the 8th of october without provocation. so they're going to believe that they are justified. the people who are inside of lebanon, particularly when we start to see the casualty toll from all the collateral damage of this massive airstrike that went
2:08 am
into the neighborhood to guarantee that hassan nasrallah was dead. when we start to see the amount of collateral damage. there will be outrage not only in lebanon, but across the region and across the world. mike, thank you so much for your excellent reporting over the phone and joining us. we're going to now be joined by democratic strategist julian epstein. thank you for getting up early. what is your reaction to this major breaking news that the idf confirming the targeted killing of hassan nasrallah? well, it's not expected and it's completely reasonable and completely consistent with the laws of war. hezbollah, as your previous guest just pointed out, started this war on october 8th. hezbollah is not interested in peace. they are not interested in a two state solution. they are interested in one thing, which is the genocide of the jewish people in israel. they have, about 150,000 rockets, 200,000 rockets, more like located in
2:09 am
about 150 different communities along the southern lebanese border. they have fired 11,000 rockets into israel, about 100,000 israelis have been displaced from northern israel. not only is this completely consistent with all the rules of war, this is an act of self-defense consistent with the rules of war. the laws of war by israel. but the other people that i think are going to be happy about this are the lebanese people. hezbollah has not only been terrorizing israel, they've been terrorizing the lebanese people since the 1980s, this is a maniacal fanatic, terrorist, nazi like regime that they are the kkk of the mideast. and now they are starting to lose this war and there's no law of war that says you can start a war. you can try to annihilate and commit genocide against
2:10 am
civilians, which is the stated purpose of hezbollah. the stated purpose is to kill as many jews in israel as possibl. you don't get to start a war, a war, and then when you start losing that war, you don't get to start claiming, hey, the international community should come to my rescue so that we can call it a draw, israel has again taken, i think, a very needed, very justified action. i put some of the blame on this on the biden administration, and i say this as a democrat. the biden administration has been appeasing iran and make no mistake, hezbollah is an iranian army in the same way. hamas is an iranian army. they are sponsored completely and entirely by iran. they do iran's bidding. they have no interest in the palestinian issue whatsoever. they use the palestinian issue as an excuse for iran expansionism and for an effort by iran to create a caliphate in that part of the
2:11 am
middle east and southern lebanon, and eventually, even in israel, biden has been sending mixed signals. he started off very, very strong after october 7th, but since then it's been sending very mixed signals, essentially allowing the funding spigots to go to iran that have funded both terrorist groups, the hezbollah and hamas, while trying to constrain israel. and what happens is just like a bully when you don't stand up to a bully and punch them in the nose, you only encourage them and the appeasement by the biden administration of iran, and i think the appeasement of hamas and the appeasement of hezbollah has only emboldened them to escalate on their terms. and israel finally said, enough is enough. here we are going to take preemptive action. and, you know, for the leadership and the members of hamas and hezbollah, we know where you live, we know where you move, and there is no place
2:12 am
that you can hide. it's a very, very powerful message. and i think the united states, right now and the biden administration should be getting behind israel 100% and making the point to iran that if the aggression doesn't stop by, both hamas and hezbollah, that the united states will support israel, not only going into southern lebanon to take out the hezbollah leaders, but there will be repercussions for iran. and i don't think that we should take off the table. the possibility of israel going after the oil fields and the nuclear capability in iran. iran is a paper tiger. 80% of the people inside of iran can't stand up and hate the, the, the, the, the governing autocrats, the theocrats of iran who abuse their own peopl, kill their own people. for a simple protest over a hijab, there is a huge movement against the regime in iran. as i say about 80% of the public
2:13 am
opposes the regime. and i think the biden administration would be well advised to step up the pressure on iran and make it clear that if the attacks on israel don't stop, that they are going to be the ones held accountable. julian epstein, thank you so much for your time this morning. we're coming up to a break. excellent insights there. i do want to bring up on the screen one more time before i toss to break the chain of command for hezbollah, showing hassan nasrallah at the top there, who's been in charge of that terrorist organization since 1992. he can be added now to eliminate it. you can see the majority of the leadership of the organization has been eliminated by the idf at this hour. we haven't yet heard any confirmation from hezbollah on this. we can expect significant civilian casualties on this major historic strike. again confirming by the idf hezbollah's leader, hassan nasrallah, is dead. it comes
2:14 am
hours after the israeli military struck hezbollah's headquarters in beirut, where it was believed he was holding meetings, leadership meetings in a command center underneath a residential building. it is the biggest blast to hit that lebanese capital in the past year and could potentially push the escalating conflict closer to full fledged war. stay with fox news as we continue to coverr and bring you this breaking news coverage all morning long. right. >> we'll send it back to regular programming. al start your day with nature. meet the number one pharmacist meet the number one pharmacist recommendesu has and supplement brand in the fresh deal. tell i go just buy in a footlong and get another free dose. another free dose. the hard he doesn't get the second foot long wait. seriously i got you next time, buddy. order now in the subway app.
