war happens after dark. i will also speak with republican congressman brian mast who volunteered with the israeli defense force. stay tuned for that. fox news alert now. americans are already struggling under the crushing weight of high prices on everything especially food. and now bracing for the effects of a massive port strike. it is on. i'm harris faulkner and are you in "the faulkner focus." tens of thousands of dock workers from maine to texas are picketing for the first time since 1977. their contract expired at midnight. they want big wages and guaranteed job protection from automation because when things are automated, you needless human beings. the port workers union chief negotiator, well, he has a lot to say and he doesn't hold back. >> when my men hit the streets

we could really feel this. how we got here. where is the white house? you fight when you have to at the white house to keep stuff like this from happening. is biden, is kamala harris, are this up to the fight? let's look at the crisis upon us. this administration is famous for how many times they can let a crisis happen because things went on too long without leadership. 45,000 dock workers at 36 ports from maine to texas are on strike today. a j.p. morgan analysis found it could cost the u.s. economy $5 billion a day. major retailers to small businesses are also preparing for supply chain disruptions. we could see shortages of some critical items, medical equipment, vehicles, food, clothing, and if you think the inconvenience is going to be bad, imagine how you are going to have to pay for those few things coming through? stuff is going to get higher if

this goes on too long. despite all of it, though, president biden says well, nothing. he is on the sidelines. the white house has said he would not invoke taft hartley act. that act allows the president to order an 80-day cooling off period. that gets us way beyond the christmas holidays and into the new year for a fresh look at what the union and the corporations are fighting about. that would avert a strike at this point. the white house, well, playing dodge ball, you know how it goes. let's watch. >> at what point would the president be willing to intervene. how long would he allow it to go on and at what cost? >> i'm not going to get into hypotheticals. i won't get into hypotheticals. we believe collective bargaining is important here. we believe both sides should come to the table in good faith and get to a fair agreement. >> harris: i thought she said

down this economy when our southeast united states is recovering from a natural disaster. this is the worst time to have 36 ports shut down our economy. >> it also comes as inflation has been cooling but the concern here is that this strike could lead to higher prices yet again especially if it lasts a while. as far as the cost of it to the u.s. economy, jp morgan has a high estimate at 4 1/2 to 5 billion a day. anderson economic group is putting the cost on the lower end but it is still $2.1 billion in the first week and they say it is only going to get worse as the supply chains grind to a halt and products coming in aren't able to get unloaded from ships. some of the big companies that are reliant on these imports are companies like wal-mart, costco, i kia, the list goes on. it will only get worse if this

aftermath of israeli air strike continuing to take out hezbollah terror targets. tensions are reaching the point of retaliation now in the middle east. this is what we were wanting to avoid. a senior white house official tells fox iran is planning an imminent miss will attack on israel. the israeli defense force pushing forward with a new phase now in its war on hezbollah. yesterday, of course, it moved in on the ground, the idf and called it limited ground operations inside southern lebanon going after iran's proxy terrorists. the people they prop up with their money. >> hezbollah plan to launch their october 7th attack from villages across southern lebanon where they have been building up their arms capabilities and forces for the last two decades. our soldiers entered hezbollah's underground infrastructures,

8:22 am
right now. it's a waiting game. as you mentioned, according to a u.s. official, iran has been noticed moving its missiles in recent days. and we're expecting this attack to play out in the next 24 hours. what we don't know, harris, is the exact scale of it. the only reference point that we have is the only direct attack on israel that iran has launched, which they did in april after israel attacked an iranian consulate in damascus. that attack iran launched over 300 ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones but as you mentioned in your intro , this time it is different. just days ago israel took out nasrallah, the leader of hezbollah for 32 years. just hours ago israel launched a ground offensive into lebanon threatening one of iran's biggest proxies. prime minister benjamin netanyahu had the message for the people of israel moments

together. together we'll stand steadfast in the trying days ahead of us. together we'll stand and together we'll fight and together we will win. take a look at this, harris, tel aviv got hit by hezbollah rockets this morning. they targeted the mossad headquarters. two drivers got hurt by falling shrapnel. israeli special units infiltrated southern lebanon dozens of times throughout the conflict before launching its limited offensive last night. they identified and dismantled the tunnel network, gathered intelligence and hampered hezbollah's capabilities during covert operations. we anticipate this pending attack, harris, there are thousands of additional u.s. troops in the region including fighter jet squadrons that will defend israel from this attack and the u.s. says if iran directly attacks israel, there will be severe consequences for iran.
8:24 am
we'll send it back to you. >> harris: there is so much going on every time i see a report with you. thank you, nate foye, for getting the conversation started on this. florida congressman brian mast. let's dig into what was just reported. he served as a volunteer in the israeli defense forces and sits on the house foreign affairs committee and served for our nation valiantly as well, too. great to see you today. let's dig in. i asked a question what it looks like on the lebanese/israeli border. the reason i asked that question. if you know there is a ground incursion coming you will move some people out of the way, i get that. if you know iran will then come from another direction and join that, you will move everybody. is that even a potential? would iran do more than just hit israel by air? >> look, i think what iran has to assess in the response that they give is probably two fold. has israeli totally degraded their ability to do a short range attack by what they did on the lebanon border? have they eliminated those
8:25 am
capabilities of rocket and drones. are they left with only the option of doing something from a longer range? then they have to assess because remember, they aren't dealing exactly with u.s. military grade equipment in the same generation we talk about our generations of equipment. they aren't in the same ballpark or game. what can they do against the other systems of defense that are there beyond the iron dome system that gets spoken about so much, the aero system. the aerial defense system and david sling systems and others. what do they think they can do against other systems of defense? it's something they have to calculate. >> harris: you were part of the idf and i know viewers may wonder how did that come about and what can you tell us about those fighting forces? >> this goes back to what was going on in higher education years ago. i was a student at harvard back in 2014. there were constant pro tests against israel at that time. i decided one day having a
8:26 am
negative encounter with some palestinian supporters that i was going to go and show my support for israel. i volunteered alongside their military. it was a great experience. what i can tell you about the difference in the forces is they realize on a daily basis that they are surrounded by enemies directly on their border whether it be the tunnels that come through egypt. what comes across from gaza, whether it be what comes from the north in lebanon. they have a daily reminder of the enemy is on their border and it is just a matter of maybe 40, 50 miles for them to cut the country in half in many of those places. that's a reality for fighters on the ground. >> harris: do you believe there was coordination between hezbollah and hamas on october 7th. hezbollah began to hit israel very hard with more missiles on october 8th after the 7th attack. do you think there was coordination between those two groups? >> i absolutely believe there was coordination and that israel was wise to not take the bait.

they have been bombarded by israel for the last year. moving people out of the north. many refugees you could call them at this point. they wanted to focus on what was going on in gaza. they are moving on to addressing what has been taking place for this last year coming from the lebanon border coming into israel. this had to happen. in this i think everybody needs to ask themselves the question as they ask is this going to escalator lead to something bigger? if this was the united states of america and canada were lobbing rockets to michigan or cartels on the southern border were lobbing them into california or arizona. none of us would be asking if it will escalate. we would only be asking what capabilities we need to destroy that enemy. >> harris: the cartels are an enemy and they don't use bombs, they use fentanyl and sex trafficking and attacking women and children. >> absolutely right. >> harris: they are cowards. that's our first war down there. last quick question. what type of movement now are you looking at to say what iran
8:28 am
is going to do next? >> i think for them are they moving any forces that they have remaining off the border again recognizing the difference in generations of weaponry that they have? israel has to look at okay, did they only have capability to fire something that they had eyes on or lasers on or again this is going into details of different generations of technology. those have to be things israel is looking for. >> harris: great to have you in "focus." thank you for your service and expertise. five weeks out from the election, 35 days today. the trump-vance ticket and harris-walz ticking are working their separate and different media strategies. hurricane helene brought utter devastation to so many people. >> it is complete devastation. lots of people lost their lives. folks from our church that were
