watching the middle east teetering on the brink of all war after iran launched a massive missile attack on israel, sirens sounded across the country as the bombardment unfolded high in the sky. israeli air base was hit, but the israeli defense forces says, its iron dome missile interception system, stopped a large number, almost all, in fact, of the nearly 200 missiles launch, preventing what could have been obviously death and large scale destruction. now, iran says this was in retaliation for israel's killing of hezbollah's leader, hassan nasrallah, in lebanon last week. thank you for staying with us on fox. as we continue our breaking coverage of these dramatic developments in the middle
11:02 pm
east, i'm jonathan hunt, live in los angeles. israel now vowing fierce response, but iran says any retaliation from israel or its allies, including, of course, the united states, will be met with an even more severe response. all this, of course, happening just hours before last night's ,first and only vice presidential debate. democrat waltz and republican j.d. vance wasted no time slamming how each other's tickets would handle the crisis . it's clear and the world saw it on that debate stage a few weeks ago. a nearly 80-year-old donald trump talking about crowd sizes is not what we need in this moment. but it's not just that. it's those that were closest to donald trump that understand how dangerous he is when the world is this dangerous. >> but when did iran and hamas and their proxies attack israel? it was during the administra ation of kamala harris. so governor walz can criticize donald trump's tweets,
11:03 pm
but effective, smart diplomacy and peace through is how you bring stability back to a very broken world. a lot to get to. in another packed tower of breaking news here on fox. let's start with correspondent nate foy, who's live in tel aviv. >> nate? hey, jonathan. there are fears that we are on the brink of a broader regional war this morning. israeli airstrikes continue in lebanon while hezbollah terrorists continue firing rockets into northern israel, a sign that the war continues even one day after the largest ballistic missile strike ever recorded. with iran launching more than 180 ballistic missiles at tel aviv. other areas of israel, predominantly the southern and central portions of israel. you mentioned that israel's air defense shot down of those missiles, ballistic missiles,
11:04 pm
with the help of international partners, including the united states defense secretary lloyd austin said that the u.s. helped israel defend itself from, this attack. israeli authorities are not reporting any injuries from it ,but we are seeing reports of one palestinian person being killed in the west bank as a result of falling trapped north during this attack. a lot of people, millions of people ran into shelters. and i was in the shelter and i spoke with one man who was injured while serving in the idf. >> listen to this. what happened with your injury? how you lost the lower part of your eye. >> hamas terrorist shot on us, an rpg and i got injured. it's hard for me to look at because in a time like this, it's very difficult to deal with my situation in my country. >> situations. and jonathan, think about the fact that there was this massive ballistic missile attack.
11:05 pm
but what you're seeing right now was far more deadly. i mentioned that israeli authorities have not reported deaths from iran's attack yesterday, but now we're learning that seven people were killed and 17 injured in a terror attack when two terrorists attacked a soldier stole gun and then used it on innocent people. riding the light train through jaffa and tel aviv. when the train stopped and opened its doors, the terrorist walked inside, started firing, the automatic weapons, walked back outside and continued their killing spree. you know, they knew exactly what they were doing. i even saw an image where the terrorists were standing over a civilian who had clearly already been shot and they continued shooting him. this is the fifth time this week that tel aviv has been targeted twice by the houthies, twice by hezbollah, and now directly by iran. this most recent one by iran, definitely the most
11:06 pm
significant. and as you mentioned right at the top of the show, the big is how exactly will israel responds with defense minister yoav promising a strong response, saying whoever attacks israel will pay a heavy price and something is notable. jonathan, i mentioned the attack by the houthies earlier this week, actually twice on sunday struck her data, a port in yemen that the houthis use to accept weapons from iran. that's about the same distance roughly from israel to iran. so israel certainly showed its capabilities of hitting targets from about 1100 miles away. send it back to you for sure, nate. >> at the end of what was a terrifying day for pretty much everybody in israel, we are grateful to have you there for us. 9 a.m. just after in tel aviv on what is of course, at sundown wednesday, rosh hashanah the jewish new year.
11:07 pm
nate, thank you. we'll be back to you throughout the next couple of hours. with us now, felice friedman, president of the media line, american news agency covering israel and the middle east. felice, welcome. i want to get your view, first of all, of what you believe israel is considering now in terms of its response. >> well, jonathan, thank you for having me. and it's really hard to anticipate what israel's going to do with the moment. they definitely will retaliate if i think it's measured at this time, because as soon as we saw all these rockets bombarding israel and once it lifted, you saw that everything came back to normal. you had the airlines already traveling. the airport was open again. so that says something, too, that israel was trying to work within the framework of what was going to go down with iran
11:08 pm
and with the united states interception, with their naval carriers, which definitely were helping in order to make sure that those missiles were not going to hit israel as badly as they could have. >> it could have been a much more dangerous situation. >> it was a very intense night. people in their shelters, sirens going off one after the other. we were sheltered in and out of a room, constantly concerned if we were going to have a long range ballistic missile hit. >> and you have to realize that the israeli people i'm speaking to many are really tired of living away from. you know, the reality is here that they're they're being displaced. you have 60,000 people in the north that are not to go back home. imagine if that happens in the united states. >> sure. and, felice, do you get the impression that the people of israel can see an end to this? or is there a sense of despair,
11:09 pm
if you like over this will go on for a very long time. >> i feel that israel finally showed its military prowess. >> this is something that many of the israelis were waiting for. it didn't happen on october 7th. and here israel was able to show what can do in lebanon that they can attack into beirut, that they can attack leaders in iran. and more important, that they were able to go with a small ground troop right now in to lebanon. again i'm going to reiterate that people have to be able to go back to their homes so the israelis know that there really has to be a solution and it can't stay status quo. >> you have to recall that the iranians are now doing this the second time they have attacked israel before. iran has talked about it. but now they're showing that doing it directly without the proxies, which they did do
11:10 pm
when they attacked in april. and that's a very important differential. we have to look at what's going to happen very closely. i feel that if the united states would back israel at this point, it would be dirty, but it would get done otherwise. i think you're looking at a very long process because. there are many long range missiles and not just long ballistic missiles, but cruise missiles and missiles that have been attacking vessels in the red sea, strapping the entire world. hmm. phyllis, i wonder if you can give us briefly in your words, how terrifying it is. >> i understand you're in jerusalem. how scary to put it simply, is it when you hear those sirens? it's absolutely frightening. you don't know where it's going to hit. you don't know if you're in a safe building. and probably with a missile of that nature.
11:11 pm
i doubt that any of the shelters that anybody has is going to save them. >> that's the reality. i think it's a mental thing that we go through and think about the young children here that are years living with it. it is daunting. and i think about living in america and where i grew up. >> i don't think anyone in the united states would tolerate it. >> i think over and over and this is a personal opinion that that government have to understand from around the world that this isn't aimed just at israel. you know, the balance that was put on one of the hezbollah leaders for $7 million was because of the that this person was involved in taking out europeans and americans and hundreds of united states military men have been attacked and some killed over the years. so if you look at the whole picture, you know, hezbollah is not changing their mandate any time soon and iran certainly isn't. >> that's a it's a very
11:12 pm
good point, felice. and we should all, of course, all never forget that it was hezbollah that bombed the murray, the u.s. marine barracks in beirut in eighties, killing so many great americans. >> felice fruits and president of the media line. we're very grateful to have you there in jerusalem talking to us tonight. >> thank you so much, felice. now let's turn to the vice presidential debate. and j.d. vance sparred over hot button issues like border security and how their administrations might immigration. >> fox news correspondent ashley strohmier joins us live to break it down. >> hello, ashley. hi, jonathan. yeah, last night, republican senator j.d. vance and democratic minnesota governor tim walz went head to head in the first and only vice presidential debate. both reinforce their running mate stances on a slew of issues. they spoke about israel, the border and abortion, among other key issues. and at one point, they even shared a moment of empathy about gun violence.
11:13 pm
but the border and immigration was a major talking point, advancing lot of what can help the issues at the border. start with law enforcement. >> listen. first of all, the gross majority of what we need to do at the southern border just empowering law enforcement to do their job. i've been to the southern border more than our borders our kamala harris has been. and it's actually heartbreaking because border patrol agents, they just want to be empowered to do their job. of course, additional resources would help, but most of this is about the president and the vice president empowering our law enforcement to say, if you try to come across the border illegally, you've got to stay in mexico. walls, on the other hand, seem to blame trump instead of lining out how to solve the problem. >> donald trump had four years. he had four years to do this. and he promised you, america, how easy it would be. i'll build you a big, beautiful wall and mexico will pay for it. less than 2% of that wall got built and mexico didn't pay a dime. >> senator vance wove the border crisis into the issues that's been seen in springfield, ohio. that's a town recently in the
11:14 pm
news regarding haitian migrants in the us illegally. >> you've got schools that are overwhelmed. you've got hospitals that are overwhelmed. you've got housing that is totally unaffordable because we brought in millions of illegal immigrants to compete with americans for scarce homes. >> the people that i'm most worried about in springfield, ohio are the american citizens who have had their lives destroyed by kamala open border and perhaps the most heated part of the debate was when january 6th was brought up, vance saying. in 2016, hillary clinton said the election was stolen by putin because the russians bought $500,000 worth of facebook ads and then in response saying january 6th was not facebook ads. >> jonathan ashley, great to see you. thank you so much for reaction to the debate and to the escalating situation in the middle. joining us now, our panel, democratic consultant julian epstein, as well as fox news contributor and research fellow at the hoover institution, skinner. great to have you both back.
11:15 pm
the julian, to you first. it struck me as i watched the debate that j.d. vance was very effective in making the argument that i think a lot of republicans would have liked see a less distracted donald trump make in the presidential debate that kamala harris has had three and a half years to push the policy. she now says she will instigate to fix the problems that we've witnessed over the last three and a half years. j.d. vance seemed to make that point repeatedly and make it well. >> julian. i think he did. >> i think he missed a couple of important data points. i mean he made a reasonably good case on the economy, the trump economy, of course, was 1.4% inflation, 3.4% unemployment, pre-covid. and the economy is growing at 4.1%. >> when he left office, i think didn't ask the key question, which i can't understand why republicans aren't asking are you better off now than you were four years ago? that is sort of the
11:16 pm
easy tagline that that republicans are not using. and i think, you know, democrats are glad they're not using it on immigration. >> you know, i think democrats are going down a rabbit hole with this legislation arguing for the bipartisan legislation. you know, if if i were in congress, i wouldn't have voted for it because the legislation would have allowed about two and a half million migrants to come into the country every year or about the amount of migrants that are coming in or the biden administration because of the limits that they put on it. >> surely we need more money for border security. >> we need more money for judges and monitoring. but i think the legislation was deeply flawed. and the fact of the matter is, the biden administration can close the borders today if they want to without legislation. supreme court has ruled that the biden administration, that the presidents have near plenary authority to do that. and so i think while he was effective somewhat in doing that, i think democrats happy that he missed a couple of sort of key points that would
11:17 pm
have driven the point home a lot more effectively current ,it seemed to me at the very start. governor walz, who found his feet perhaps a little later on, issues seemed to struggle the most he did in that 90 or so minutes on the question of the ongoing conflict in the middle east, he didn't appear, i think, to a lot of people, particularly president material at that point. >> would you agree with that? i do agree. he did not seem well prepared to talk about policy in general and the middle east in particular. and given the events of tuesday, we would have expected more from him. and when you look at the two of them in their performance, i understand what julian has said. perhaps j.d. vance could have said more the economy. but the fact of the matter is he presented himself well enough for us to see him
11:18 pm
as part of the future of the republican party. tim walz didn't seem like the future. he seemed like someone who was stumbling along trying to say what kamala harris, the vice president, has said, not adding more nuance or specificity. i think j.d. vance did that for former president donald trump. so i was disappointed on the democratic side, not from a partisan perspective. i'd love to see a robust debate where it's hard to figure out who won. i think this was a clear victory for the republican side. and again, on this point, larger point of a future for the republican party, j.d. vance didn't seem like the monster that he's been made out to, out to be the mainstream media. and i think that reassured
11:19 pm
a lot of people. >> yeah, and julian, just picking up on that, and i've got to wrap it up briefly here, but civility appeared be a winner tonight as well. in particular, talking about j.d. vance not seeming monstrous when he turned to governor walz, who had just revealed that his son witnessed a shooting. and he said, i didn't know that, governor, i'm sorry, that it was it was a nice moment. >> i think it was a very nice moment. and, look, i think this was such a superior debate, the presidential debate, both in terms of the substance. you know, you can. well, so i don't think he did quite as badly as kyron did. i think may have lost the debate. >> but i think he did score some points. but it was very substantive. but it was also very civil. you got the sense that the two had mutual respect for one another, and that's what the american people want. >> you know, the american people don't want us necessarily to agree with each other. they just want us to learn how to disagree with each other better. and i think two of them showed that. and i think they both, you know, did well for
11:20 pm
their likability, each of them respectively. >> yep. when civility wins, we all win a wish for the coming month or so before the election. i'm not sure it's a wish that will be fulfilled julian cameron. i wish that you will be back the next hour and a half or so, and i think that which will be granted. great to see you both again. we will be back with a whole lot more on the ongoing situation in the middle east. it is now wednesday morning in israel and the israeli government is still weighing how and when it will respond to iran's attack. we'll be right back. >> when you know where comes from, you know everything about it. when you discover and branch putting you the most extraordinary feeling of comfort and care, we prioritize toxin free, organic cotton. we pay and treat people fairly, all in pursuit of the most

israel. we have made clear that there will be consequences, severe consequences for this attack, and we will work with israel to make that the case. >> joining us now, cameron hamilton, former congressional and a former navy seal who trained the idf members in israel. cameron, thank you for your service and thank you for being here with us. >> i want to talk to you a little bit about what idf units are doing right inside lebanon. we know that they've gone in on the ground. we know that according to israel, that they've been going in and out and operations over some weeks, perhaps even months now, how difficult, as we look at a live picture of the skyline of beirut, lebanon, how difficult are those operations to carry out? >> how dangerous are they? cameron they're extremely dangerous. good evening and thank you for having me again. this is a terrible scenario
11:26 pm
we're witnessing, but israel does have a unique and you could bandage they're able to bring the fight to the enemy in a really tangible way. what you're seeing is likely separate macdill some of their special operations troops that are very highly trained. they have specialty dog units that go after key areas of infrastructure, the goal of invading southern lebanon is really to dismantle a lot of the iranian capable cities that they've used through proxies and through funding to attack israel's northern border with the october 7th attacks are quite awful categorical. we also saw on october eight attacks in northern israel from the rudd one force and many other units that were supporting hezbollah efforts and supported by iran. so that's really the main effort of what israel is trying to engage in right now, dismantle and disrupt any future possibilities of attacking the northern border. israel has close to 100,000 citizens that have been evacuated from the northern part of the country. so they certainly want to get back to normal as well. and i think that they're
11:27 pm
also trying to show a very clear indication to their iranian counterparts, as well as to the hezbollah counterparts, that any place, any time they're able to strike. >> now, cameron we're just hearing this morning that obviously we know that there have been special forces units going into lebanon. >> we're getting a bulletin now from reuters that the israeli military says regular infantry and armored units are joining the ground operation in in lebanon. does that is that a clear signal that it is expanding greatly? i wouldn't say so much that is expanding. i would say, though, that israel is committing far more of its military infrastructure to attack the problem. >> they have tank divisions and they have armored divisions which are really quite sophisticated. we learn a lot of our modern warfare fighting from the battle of grozny with the russians and the chechens. >> and so by bringing in these additional resources, goal is to ensure that their troops remain safe and they can take a bigger bite into the city streets, going block by block, building by building
11:28 pm
to dismantle and to look at unique air. and of of where they might be staging weaponry and staging resupply is is quite complicated. you need layers and layers of overwatch and additional security. >> and so that's what israel's likely engaging in here. i will say that they've also activated quite a bit of their aviation force. >> they have a pretty sophisticated drone technology. they are aircraft that are in the air surveying. they've also got special operators on the ground who are surveying cell phone data and trying to find information going back and forth between the enemy networks so they can pinpoint key locations and then go after them. >> and so how long i mean, i know it's a really difficult question to answer, but how long does it take if you're really going to dismantle and organization that is as ingrained as hezbollah is in lebanon, how do you have to ultimately go to beirut, the southern suburbs of beirut, where hezbollah is so strong and take out every member of that group
11:29 pm
? >> yeah, that's a really challenging question. i will tell you, it's much longer than most of us would have a stomach for. but israel has, unfortunately. what they'll have to do is really use a lot of their different layers of continuity and a lot of their resources to try to pinpoint likely threats and then zone in from there. so i'm expecting that this would take anywhere between 30 and 60 days. i don't think this be a short excursion where they're in and out in a few in a few days or maybe even a week two. i do expect this will take much, much longer where and how far they go is really subject to hezbollah. what we're finding now is that the hezbollah, you know, military entity is actually sponsoring and paying families in domestic operations in their domestic, you know, domiciles to stage weapons and rockets and things that's exceedingly difficult to do, to detect and to pinpoint. now, there is technology, there's dogs, and there's so many things that we have at our disposal that the israelis
11:30 pm
are quite advanced in their technological abilities. but nonetheless, it is still block by block street by street making entry, trying to gain local footholds, using intelligence resources and infrastructure that are on the ground there. >> israel's very sophisticated. and likely they're going to have to use a lot of their previously existing intel networks to find out just exactly where and how they need to direct this train. >> yeah. cameron hamilton, former seal, wonderful to have your expertise. thank you so much. and as cameron was saying and having been there during the 2006 hezbollah israel war, i can tell you that hezbollah is so deeply ingrained in the network of streets southern beirut, it'll be a long, hard fight if israel goes that far. we will have much more on the ongoing conflict in the middle after the break. protect your vehicle with smart miners. custom full coverage floor

are on the rise as the focus now shifts towards bracing for a possible all out regional conflict. this comes, of course, after iran launched more than 180 ballistic missiles, sending israelis across the country scrambling for shelter on tuesday. the israeli defense forces say they remain, quote, ready and willing to retaliate following iran's attacks. joining us again, fox news correspondent nate foy live for us this wednesday morning in tel aviv. and nate, the question again is, what are we hearing about israel's reaction to this? are they going after oilfields? are they going to go after nuclear facilities? are they going to go after the leader ship in tehran itself? >> any clues you're getting, nate? >> what we do know that the ayatollah khamenei, iran's supreme leader, has been moved to a secure location after

israel has targeted pretty much the entire leadership structure of hezbollah. as for the scale of the response it's unknown. the scale was not significant after the two countries exchanged direct attacks back in april. many expect it to be more significant this time around, so we'll have to wait and see. many expected to be in the next couple of days rather than immediate. >> jonathan and nate, talk us through a little bit. >> the day that everybody in israel pretty much went through. you and your crew went through having to seek shelter as this barrage age of ballistic missiles rained down on much all points throughout israel. what was it to be under that kind of fire? nate? well, just minutes before iran launched this ballistic missile attack, we heard sirens just off the balcony of our hotel and then we of a terror
11:37 pm
attack unfolding in jaffa nearby. i and our crew got into our car and we were driving to the scene. and then immediately as we left the hotel, that was when the alert came through that iran had launched this attack. and then we had to turn back around and we were able to get into the shelter at the hotel where we spoke with a lot of people down there who i had mentioned earlier were remarkably calm because they're so confident in israel's air defense. and that confidence proved correct because not every single one of the missiles was shot down, but many of them were obviously with help of the united states and other regional partners. but 180 ballistic missiles shot and only one death in the west bank being reported jonathan. pretty extraordinary night. we're grateful for you and all of our fox teams on the ground there. thank you for you in tel aviv for reaction on the escalating situation in the middle east. we've got joined now

by democratic consultant julian epstein and fox news contributor and research fellow at the hoover institution, kieran skinner. karen, let me come to you first. is the white house doing enough, in your view, to support israel? >> here? >> no, i had really hoped today that the biden white house would take the lead in supporting those senators, mainly republican, who said we need to resupply israel with munitions as quickly as possible. i would like that to have been the position of the white house that. this is a fight for the survival of the west. israel itself a proxy for the west, and it is fighting war on its own. it doesn't ask anyone to fight. it's war or its wars. it never has. but it does need our assistance. second, i'd like to remind everyone that at the beginning of this war, soon after october
11:39 pm
7/7, 2002, 2023 the biden took the initial position that iran was not involved and that the intelligence did not point to iran. this was hamas. this has always been about iran . and throughout tonight we've heard person after person say this could go to a wider war. it is a wider it is a global war. u.s. officials are being targeted by iran. >> yeah, and julian, same question to you. is the biden administration doing enough here in your view? >> well, they they made good sounds today. they said they would fully support israel and defend help defend israel. moving u.s. forces and capacity into place. but, you know, think back to 2003, the last time iran stopped its nuclear program. >> why did it stop its nuclear program in 2003? it's because it feared that the us would invade iran after invaded iraq.
11:40 pm
and that's the kind of language that makes that makes iran act. >> the the the delusion i think, of the left, not just the biden white house, but france, u.k., germany is that they believe that diplomacy and the international rules based order will somehow answer the mail on this. iran is not interested in the international rules based. the hamas is killing us hostages. the houthis are shutting down the red sea. hezbollah is firing thousands of rockets into israel. >> this is a death cult driven by a race supremacist ideology ? and every time the west tries to constrain israel in any way, it only encourages them to escalate. war is about winning the escalation ladder and until we make it clear that we will exact a cost on iran for funding all of this terrorism disorder in the mideast, it will continue to do that. and that's the only language
11:41 pm
that they will understand. so i think they've got to give a more full throated support for israel, whatever it decides to do. i think going after the nuclear capability is in order. >> yeah, it's a very good point. it is the only language, it seems. l understand. gillian, karen, thank you. back to you shortly. in the meantime, we will be back with some interesting comments from former president donald trump on iran and the possibility that iran might target america and political leaders. >> we'll be right back. >> i cannot believe these shorts from are 80% off. look at the shorts i used to wear to the gym. now look at the fabletics one short. so much better. these shorts do it all. they come with a towel loop, zipper pockets to store keys or your airpods a line or pocket for your phone. no more dropping your phone on a gym floor. they're anti stink and moisture wicking. and the best part right now, you can get a pair for 80% off as a new vip member at fabletics .com.

11:43 pm
thieves perspective is that nobody realizes that i have sold your house or refining it and borrowed money against it until i stop making those mortgage payments. >> so it could be six months later they start getting foreclosed on. most have credit cards, and the credit card generally protects fraudulent charges on it and so on. but what about your home, though? that's where your big equity is. >> that's not the way it works with title theft. that's not the way it works at all. >> nobody's helping you. nobody's looking out for you. what's a homeowner to do. i mean, when they find out they're a victim, what can they do next? >> they would have to go to maybe their local sheriff or the local police, and they would have to notify them of this crime and try and explain what happened, which is a mess in itself. and nobody's prepared to do that. >> the thing about home title lock is that never has to happen. why is that? >> they notify you when there's any change to your title, so you get notified that your deed was transferred or your mortgage was satisfied and you're able to contact home
11:44 pm
title lock. contact the authorities and. >> hopefully catch the thief in the middle of this whole process and even if the title has been transferred out of your name, home title lock has a restoration team that will come in fix your title and place the property back into your name. title fraud is real. it's scary, but now there's a way to protect yourself. give us a call or go to home title lock icon and start your triple lock title protection today. >> don't buy or cialis anywhere before trying this trick. it's called friday plans. and it's the only way to get nine tablets of 100 milligram generic viagra or 20 milligram generic cialis delivered for just dollars. let me show you. first scan the qr code to go to get friday plans .com. then you select if you need generic viagra or cialis the quantity you need. i'll pick nine and the dosage

11:46 pm
warned of threats from tehran against former trump's life. there were two assassination attempts on mr. trump, obviously, over the summer. joining us now, jameel jaffer, director of the national security law and policy program at george mason and former chief counsel and senior adviser for the senate foreign relations committee. jamal, great to see as always. iran is at the center of so much everything it seems, coming out of the middle east right now. so why should israel not go straight to tehran and deal with the leadership, as they have quite clearly the ability to do if they want to? >> well, look, i think it's a fair point. i think the real challenge here is, as you point out, we know that iran is the houthi rebels in yemen. we know they're the funders behind. and we know that hezbollah has been their key proxy force in, the region, for the better part of three decades. so we know they're the moving
11:47 pm
force behind all these all this effort. the challenge, of course, is if you go after the iranian leadership, then you're breaking a nation, a nation war with iran. and while iran has launched two direct attacks against israel from iran in territory, that's a war that nobody wants, it's not a war that israel wants. it's not a war that iran wants. it's a war that israel, if the announcement should run, that the united states would win. but, of course, it's a war will be very bloody and very costly. and at a time when you're fighting hamas in the south and gaza, hezbollah in the north, you don't want to pick a third front in this fight. and maybe it's already in yemen. you'd want to pick a fourth one on this front directly with iran. >> so what do you do there for jamal, to keep iran in the box and prevent it from getting out of said box? do we just take out the nuclear facilities, the oil facilities ? >> is that going to be enough? well, it's a great question. i keep her on the box. iran obviously has gotten out of the box. they've been out of the box for a while because they've been able to fund all this kind of terrorism without
11:48 pm
with relative impunity. and so we've to continue to push back. we've got to hit iran directly. israel's demonstrated they can do that. the united states need to be able to back them and continue to show that effort, because if we continue to allow u.s. soldiers to be targeted and israel's territory to be targeted, eventually iran will will go too far and it will provoke a war. >> so and we're hearing word from the houthis in yemen just in the last hour, jamal, that they are once again us interests. if the u.s. continues to stand with and support israel. so we've got all those naval assets in the region. do they need to take a more offensive stance in terms of the houthis maybe? >> absolutely. look, i think the only way that you're going to get push back against iran and its proxies is to hit them directly, hit them hard and hit them repeatedly until. you deterred this kind of bad behavior. and at some level, we do need to hit iran directly to make them feel the price today. their proxy is still a price.
11:49 pm
they don't feel a direct price. if we hit iran directly, as president trump did with cousin soleimani. that may be the solution to creating real deterrence in the region. >> so nuclear facilities, is that the best place to hit them, to make them take notice, jamal? well, it certainly would make them take notice. the problem with the nuclear facilities is we can't be sure we'll get all of them. some of them are buried very deep underground. we know some of the that we know of are buried deep. the problem is if you don't get all of them, then you run the risk that you start and push with the nuclear weapon and then you've got a real bitter challenge. >> jamal, it is always so illuminating and educational to talk to you. thank you so much for being here this early wednesday morning. and we will be back with a lot more on the vice presidential debate and what is going on in the middle east as we stand on the brink of what could be a regional war. >> we'll be back. good job. coming up, caring about dodgers. overall health is as important as my own.

11:54 pm
joining us now, blaise mittal, vice president for policy at the jewish institute for national security of america. blaze, thank you so much for being here. if you're talking about taking out the head of the octopus, then surely you have to take out. that means taking out the leadership, the ayatollah, those who surround him is israel. and should israel go that far? >> well, good morning, jonathan i think if you look at the pattern of how israel has conducted this war, what it's gone after, prime minister netanyahu made it clear in his speech last night, it gone after hamas's leadership and most of them are gone. it has gone after hezbollah's leadership. and we saw what happened to hassan nasrallah on friday. and if you apply the same logic to to iran, that it's no wonder that supreme leader khomeini was in his bunker last night, because i think inevitably that same logic is going to be applied to iran, because
11:55 pm
they are, as naftali bennett said, they are the head of the octopus that has been directing this war for the past year. >> so then if that were to happen, we're obviously in a nation to nation war, as it's been on the show. is that where anybody wants to be blase. >> i don't think that's where anybody wants to be. but make no mistake, jonathan we've been in nation to nation war for the last year. iran has been the force that's directly responsible arming, equipping, training and turning hamas, hezbollah, the houthis and all of its other terrorist proxies against israel. and it's been directly involved in this conflict, at least twice, as we've seen, first in april and then yesterday. to say that we are on the brink of a regional war or that there's a threat of an iran israel war, i think evades the fact that we've already
11:56 pm
been there for the past year. it's now a matter of how this war is going to end and who's going to come out on top. and i have to say is think that's a very fair it's a very fair point that we are in, in in many ways, a regional war . how long do you believe israel waits now before it delivers its response to iran? i think it has some important trade offs to consider in making that calculation. i think on the one hand, it wants to show iran that the attack failed and that it continues to have the ability to strike whenever it wants. >> on the other hand, it is already, as jamal said earlier, it's engaged in in gaza. it has opened a new, more active front in lebanon, sending in not just planes, but now ground troops in recent days.
11:57 pm
and so i think it's going to want to be able to all of those efforts. yet at the same time, i don't think it wants to wait too long. there's always the possibility that iran, fearing an israeli retaliation, is going to start sprinting into a nuclear weapon now or any more attack. >> and so they've got ratchet up their plays. i'm sorry, we're running out of time here. we really appreciate you being here with us. we'll be right back. top of the hour. of getting a walsak in tub for you or someone you love? now is a great time to take a lookand new at getting a safp walking tour with safe steps. >> standard heated seat and new fast fill faucet. you can enjoy a nice warm bath up to 20% faster and the up to 20% faster and the convenient touch pad control is right at your fingertips. is right at your fingertips. each tub comes standar obilita dual hydrotherapy system. the ten water jets canove slee e mobility, relieve pain, boost ox sleep, while
