the rhetoric comes from the left. is absolutely remarkable what donald trump does every single day to talk directly to the american people to get their votes in the threat to democracy always comes from the left. speed. >> carley: oh, my gosh, i will ask it anyway, do think we will get the election results on the night of the election? one, and is anything national media is he's going to have commanding lead in the battleground states. we feel good about where we are now. the media will do everything they can to hide kamala harris. the fact is she has been the vice president, this is her administration. she cast tie-breaking votes on the -- >> todd: got it in. "fox and friends" now. >> carley: have a great day,
2:01 am
everybody. >> blame donald trump, who has been the vice president, your running mate, not mine. we screwed up, go back to donald trump's border policy. >> israel is fundamental, those closest to donald trump understand how dangerous he is when the world is this dangerous. >> for people to fear the united states, you needed peace. >> you said you were in hong kong. >> i'm a knuckle head, i misspoke on this. i want us to be pro-family in fullest sense of the word. >> donald trump put this all into motion. he put judges in and overturned roe v. wade. we'll just ask wealthy to pay their fair share.
2:02 am
>> kamala harris ought to cut taxes now for american workers and families. >> kamala harris is bringing a new way forward. >> she's been vice president for 3-1/2 years, we need a new direction. >> steve: good morning, that was a midwestern match up. live in new york. lawrence is in michigan this morning. we do post-game show for the first and only vice presidential debate, heavy on policy. nominees kept it civil, which was refreshing while many in the media praising j.d. vance performance. >> ainsley: politico writing, midwestern nice, vance and walz agreeable. the walls are closing in. and w"wall street journal" says j.d. vance confident and walz uneven and debate heavy on
2:03 am
policy. >> brian: debate not without controversy. moderators were barred from fact-checking and they fact-checked government. >> springfield, ohio has a large population of haitian -- >> margaret, the rules were you would not fact check. it is important to say what is going on. >> former president trump ripping walz performance, he's been indoctrinated with lies. he's as nervous as you can get. >> steve: you could tell that, mr. walz, the governor, taking an awful lot of notes and stumbling while trying to defend kamala harris' record and his past comments, as well.
2:04 am
>> you said you were in hong kong in spring of 1989. minnesota public radio and other meed are reporting you did not travel there until august of that year. can you explain that dis discrepancy? >> my community saw where i was at. i have poured my heart into my community. i've not been perfect, but i'm a knucklehead at times. i hear critiques of this. donald trump should have come on a trip with us. >> governor, can you explain the discrepency? >> i misspoke on this, that is what i've said. i was in hong kong and china during the democracy protest. >> ainsley: he had a few other
2:05 am
cr crepediscr discrepancys, as well. she held his feet to the fire and asked him about that, lawrence. >> lawrence: i have to admit, i was wrong when i said yesterday they were trying to set expectations low. maybe the guy was nervous, maybe reports were true, he looked petrified in the debate and j.d. vance showed a different side of himself, not just debate wise, human side. almost as if he was not at a debate. he said sorry for what his son had to experience with a school shooter. there was back and forth. he knew the policy and walz did
2:06 am
not. >> bryan: you got the sense,s who did 100 interviews? j.d. vance since july. been in the fray, too. he's in a tough primary to get nomination and tough general against tim ryan and he's leading contenner for donald trump and goes to bat and becomes vice presidential nominee. he's battle-tested and i thought he kept his cool. he had the lowest likeability rating of all four candidates. he had to come off smart and likeable. if he was raw and got a tko, it would not have worked for vance. this was complete victory. i don't think walz was terrible, he ended strong and was
2:07 am
confident. when you don't tell the truth about things, what do you do? i was born in nebraska, my parents ran a meat locker. >> steve: he did not start off great. he was taking notes and kept looking over with what am i going to do. you could see a great big clock over the shoulder of the m moderators and both kept looking at the clock. it was distracting for them. thes governor was not very good. j.d. vance won by a mile with style points. to your point about likeability, given things he's said about
2:08 am
childless cat ladies and stuff like that, that is not the guy that was there last night. his family story is played out in hillbilly ellogy. that is who we saw last night, good jobbing brand new voice and spokesperson for trumpism. >> ainsley: first question was about the iranian attack. he said, i want to introduce myself, my mother suffered with addiction, i grew up, he talked about his past. my mom was on food assistance, i served in iraq, now let me answer your question. >> >> steve: they should have asked. >> ainsley: he said i grew up in a middle class family and never
2:09 am
answered are we better off now than four years ago. j.d. vance brought civility, they were both civil. they comp limped each other and i think they, the tone and tenor from the moderators was really hot, in the beginning especially. the guys were so nice that the woman toned it down. when they said we are not going to fact-check you, they did not stick to the rule. >> lawrence: unbelievable. >> to clarify for viewers springfield, ohio has a large number of haitian migrants who have legal status, temporary protected status. thank you. >> senator, so much to get to. >> it is important -- >> >> margaret, the rules were you were not going to fact check, since you did, it is important to say what is going on.
2:10 am
there is application called cbp 1 app and you can be granted legal status at the wave of a kamala harris open border wand, that is not a person applying. >> thank you, senator. >> that is illegal immigration by our own leadership. >> thank you for describing the legal process, we have so much to get to. >> on the books since 1990. >> the cbsp app has not been. >> the audience can't hear you, your mics are cut. so much to get to. >> brian: was i not the only one to have an app in 1990? >> lawrence: right. i find it particularly egregious, the rules were set.
2:11 am
couldn't be greater example while they should not fact check. they made it sound like people came across the border legal way, made application and got protected status. that is not the case. they changed rule so people could come to ohio with an app. that is all j.d. vance was trying to explain. i think that was indictment on the media. >> ainsley: i wanted to hear his response. >> steve: me, too. interesting. reason they did that, they were talking about springfield, ohio. the dog and cat stuff played big. i inadvertently, but it made it seem they were going after vance, made it seem like three
2:12 am
on one. vance did fine on his own. >> lawrence: because it was. >> steve: it was in that instance, let him finish sound bite. instead, cut oaudio and look terrible. >> ainsley: they were concerned and they wanted to fact check him. they were talking about haitian migrants, many are here illegally, many are not. i wanted to hear about the cbp 1 a app, legals applying for legal status. >> brian: cuba, venezuela and haiti special immigration status. they parachute you in, you can stay because your country is a mess. i would have liked to have heard more about that. joe biden wants them here.
2:13 am
that is not the way it should work. everybody knows haiti is going through hell, venezuela could no not be worse and cuba has been bad. does that mean we have to their immigrants. >> ainsley: they were fact-checking, never did it again after that, and never muted the mic. they were embarrassed. >> lawrence: they never answered j.d. vance question or statement when he said we agreed not to do this and you did it. second thing is they spen more time on climate change than number one issue on voter minds. i wanted to hear the response, have back and forth. sometimes you want to go off script, something so important
2:14 am
on voter minds, spend more time on that and not climate change. >> steve: it was very civil, it was refreshing. here we've got a montage if you missed the debate, where they actually talk a little bit about the issues and the policies of each side and what is important and what you can tell after when you look at the sweep of the night. they did less time attacking each other and more time attack ing the person on the top of the other person's ticket. j.d. vance made it all about kamala harris and in fact, everything that happened over last 3-1/2 years was part of the harris administration. we have a sound bite, watch this. >> keep in mind where this started, october 7 hamas
2:15 am
terrorists massacred 1400 israelis and took prisoners. israel's ability to defend itself is fundamental. >> we have historic immigration cries because kamala harris started and said she wanted to undo donald trump's border policies. crossings are down compared to when donald trump left office. >> you believe abortion in the ninth month is fine? yes or no, is that what you support? >> that is not what the bill says. >> i never supported a national ban. i want to be pro-family. >> you previously opposed assault weapon ban, you changed your position, why? >> i sat in the office with sandy hook parents. >> if kamala harris has a plan, she ought to do them now, not
2:16 am
whether asking for a job. >> we are producing more natural gas and more oil than we ever have and producing more clean energy. >> senator, what responsibility would the trump administration have to try to reduce impact of climate change? >> produce as much energy in the united states of america, we are cl cleanest economy in the world. what have kamala harris policies led to? more manufacturing in china and overseas and more doing business in dirtiest parts of the world. >> brian: on the money. implausible to think we will be run on solar panel and windmills. for the record, every scientist agrees. she is now geologist and chief and all scientists agree on that. talk about that. and one thing that bothers me,
2:17 am
j.d. vance missed something, he said there is a pause on lng. walz said there is no pause. for him to say not allowing mining in his state to have batt batteries -- >> ainsley: we were talking, what does the bill on abortion say? the bill in minnesota on abortion, j.d. vance said you can have an abortion in the ninth month under your bill. >> brian: does not prohibit abortion any stage of pregnancy. there has been five final stage third trimester abortions, where baby is born and they make a decision. on cnn, eight and i see five, they want to fight back it is
2:18 am
not happening. it is happening. >> lawrence: it did. >> ainsley: how about when vance says are you going to tell a catholic hospital they have to give abortions? make the nuns do this? >> steve: we've heard those things before. one do-over and first answer when he was hemming and hawing, he would like to have a do-over on that, walz would. other one and he never corrected and we ran it, he said i'm friends with school shooters. what? i'm sure he meant something else, that was never defined and that was embarrassing. we have 90 minutes to go over this and big show. >> brian: senator tom cotton, speaker mike johnson, we have martha maccallum in new york for work, and pete hegseth wherever

union, that could cut off food, 75% of bananas and stuff like that. was that smart to say last night to remind people i'm a union guy. >> brian: he should have been talking about solving the problem. harris-walz says we will refuse to use government power taft-hartley to fix this. americans are left thinking, you put your thumbs on the scale for unions, not forconsumers and we're about to get hit big time. where is your answer mr. walz, your answer from your boss, kamala harris? nothing in sight right now. >> steve: remember during supply chain crisis and covid and all the ships got christmas toys and trees and sitting out there.
