>> john: we are tracking president biden and vice president kamala harris' movement as they visit some of the communities hardest hit by hurricane helene. president biden will take an aerial tour in western north carolina. he just touched down. and in moments we do expect vice president harris to land in georgia, where she will survey damage there. a couple days after former president trump did. i'm john roberts in washington. good happy with us today. >> gillian: things for having me. i'm gillian turner in for

sandra smith. towns in north carolina completely unrecognizable. especially the western part of the state. asheville mayor r faced of their resources. the pictures you can see right there on your screen proved that is the case. emergency crews are working to reach the isolated communities that have been devastated by catastrophic flooding. residents there are heartbroken, desperately pleading for help. >> there has been landslides. our valley got wiped out. they had to rescue people, the national guard had to come in and take people out. >> i have been a resident, and we never experienced anything like this. we need things like baby formula, baby food, pet supplies, we need outreach. we are trying to do the best we can but we just need help.

>> john: fox weather's jane minar is live in boone, north carolina. jane, what are you seeing? >> yeah, john, so we traveled 2f boone, trying to get to these rural mountain towns because that is truly where there is a ton of devastation. the scale of this is really hard to put into words. in cove creek, north carolina, this was the centerpiece of this community. you had soccer fields, a track off to the distance. that is now filled with debris. power lines that have been pushed by the cove creek, that once was a small stream, rose more than 10 feet, became a raging river. you had cars and rvs that were pushed downstream, mangled amongst the mess of those power poles. this is the playground where the local day care center, 3-year-old ada came to talk to me this morning. she had her rain boots on and her gardening apron and gloves,

feet of debris that's going to take a long time to clean up. >> john: no question about that. there is just so much h hardship out in that part of the state. jane minar, thank you. hurricanes are one thing because there is a lot of wind damage, storm surge damage, but you can rebuild when something is knocked down by wind or waves. but there with 10 feet of mud in some parts of downtown areas of these little towns or the center of these little towns, where do you even start? >> gillian: you know, talking to the fire cheap earlier, i was also thinking about how in boone in particular they have 19, 20,000 people who live there, a lot live off the tourism industry. about to peak, normally would, fall tourism is incredibly beautiful and special part of the country, everybody wants to see the fall foliage. people there, many people are running restaurants, shops, air b&bs, that really only get going for three or four months of the year and now they have no

income potentially all year. >> john: you have to feel for all of those folks who literally lost everything, buried under tons and tons and tons of mud. as jane was pointing out, trying to find little trinkets here and there of memories. it is hard to find. there is such utter devastation. >> gillian: hoping i guess for some kind of remnant of what your life was like before this horrible storm. >> john: terrible. >> gillian: there is also this, our other top stories, tensions running high in the middle east after iran's bombardment of israel yesterday. trey yingst recently embedded with the idf, units moved across the border into southern lebanon. trey is the first journalist to go into the country with the idf since the conflict erected between the two sides. he joins us now from the northern city of haifa, israel, with an exclusive look, also looking back, we saw yesterday just before this time, trey, at your hotel, as those missiles were incoming, sort of look like right over your head. >> yeah, gillian, good

afternoon. as is really a forces launched a ground operation to southern lebanon this week we were amongs to enter. here's a look at a hezbollah position dug into the side of a mountain. right now israeli forces are conducting a ground invasion into southern lebanon. we are embedded within elite commando unit that just arrived at this hezbollah position. carved into the side of a mountain. it's in tunnels and rooms like this, the israelis say, they are finding irani weapons smuggled t to syria and then into southern lebanon to get to this hezbollah position we had to cross minefields and hike across uneven terrain, pocked with craters, the result of israeli bombardment of southern lebanon. all of this began on october 8th, when hezbollah followed hamas and started attacking northern israel in the

hours after the october 7th massacre. now israel says they are conducting these limited raids across the border to destroy these hezbollah positions and allow israeli civilians to return to their homes in the northern part of the country. the israeli ground and air campaign against southern lebanon continues today. we know that hundreds of hezbollah fighters have been killed in the process, along with hundreds of civilians. while we follow this developing story, we can also report at this hour that eight israeli soldiers were killed earlier today in battles with hezbollah. gillian? >> gillian: trey, thank you for that coverage. thank you for staying up late to be with us and for your pretty much continuous coverage over the last 24 hours. great job. john? >> john: let's bring and retire u.s. army brigadier general anthony tate of for more on this. general, good to see you. what do you suspect israel will do in response to the massacre

strike? >> first i want to say trey does a great job. transportation secretary in north carolina, my heart goes to the people of western north carolina. i know that part of the state well. what israel is going to do next i think is going to continue the netanyahu plan of eradicating the means of war from those tunnels that trey just showed, and continue his step-by-step process of pushing the extended range of the weapons back in lebanon so they can't range the people that live in galilee and golan heights area. >> john: do you think it will be limited to that or will they strike back against iran itself? iran use to attack israel solely through its proxies. that all changed on april the 13th when it attacked directly and it happened again yesterday. israeli sit back and say, okay -- >> they have three fights on their hands. hamas in the south come hezbollah in the north, and iran

11:11 am
looks like iran gave in the middle and did. >> they have put us in this situation, trying to appease, and that allowed iran to have the resources to do what they are doing right now. >> john: it seems the biden administration has pursued a policy of appeasement with iran hoping it can craft some sort of reentry into a nuclear deal that likely doesn't include anything about iran's policies in the middle east or its ballistic missile program, both of which were on the table in the trump administration. >> the harris-biden strategy is maximum pressure on israel, what they have created is the environment for all of these shia militia groups, the houthis to those in gaza, hamas and hezbollah and the militia groups throughout syria and israel or in a rack to attack u.s. interests in israel, and that's
11:12 am
funded by all these funds that we discussed, and so israel has to get at the heart of that, and harris and biden should have had a full-scale, maximum pressure campaign with diplomacy, information messaging, military, economic, all of that work in a tandem like we had under president trump that choked off the ability for iran to provide these supplies to those that want to do harm to israel and u.s. interests. >> john: secretary of state antony blinken had what appeared to be a poorly timed op-ed article in foreign affairs on tuesday in which he said, in part, quote, the biden a administration strategy has put the united states in a much stronger geopolitical position today than it was four years ag. this twin pillared strategy they believe was the best to disabuse competitors of their assumptions that the united states was declining and diffident. i mean, putin invaded ukraine. october 7th happened. iran attacked israel directly.
11:13 am
and who knows what she is going to do about taiwan and this article comes out. >> jake sullivan's article, had to change foreign policy. the relations have never been better and peace is breaking out all over and we have hamas attacking israel on that horrible day. on october 7th. they are so out of touch. they don't have the levers of government working together to create strategy to secure our national interests and those of our allies, and that is the bottom line. harris and biden are bad for foreign policy and bad for domestic policy accordingly. >> john: general tata, great to see you in d.c. and our hearts go out to the folks in north carolina. appreciate it. thank you. gillian? >> gillian: moments from now, j.d. vance set to speak in michigan about his plan to tackle rising costs. >> john: plus homes destroyed, personal belongings gone, lives

about manufacturing because i know we have a lot of employees and a lot of family members who work with vision nearing a great american aerospace company. we believe, donald trump and i believe one of the biggest mistakes our leaders made is they decided over 40 years that we didn't need to make our own stuff any anymore. this company is a proud and stark contrast because right here in visioneering, workers making great american products, we are proud of you, we're going to fight for you and we are going to build on that great track record. you know, my pop always a union steelworker for almost 40 years and almost 10,000 jobs, now about 2,000 jobs. and the steel mill where the lucky ones because a lot of great american steel producers didn't just shed 8,000 jobs,

11:44 am
cheaper somehow. well, we have been living through the inflation of the last three and a half years, and we know that when we make our country less self-reliant, when we pursue the policies that kamala harris says we ought to pursue, it makes americans poorer, it drives up the cost of food and housing, and makes our country less prosperous, and it makes our nation more dependent on people who don't like us to make the critical stuff that we need. we've got to get rid of that. stop listening to the economist and start listening to common sense in this country. [cheers] but think about this. they said -- here's the deal. tim walz has the audacity and kamala harris has the audacity to say that, well, donald trump's policies are enacted, that's going to lead to higher prices for american consumers. tim, we already ran this experience once.
11:45 am
donald trump's economic policies worked for american families, they worked for american consumers. but here is the thing. think about it. if a chinese company wants to hire a literal slave laborer making $4 a day, and they want to import the goods made by that slave laborer, then it's going to make americans poorer because of course we shouldn't expect american middle-class workers to work for a wage in china. we ought to expect our middle-class workers to be able to support a family on those wages, and that is what we are going to fight for every single day. so here's what you've got to do to prevent those countries and those companies from undercutting the wages of american workers. you've got to be willing to impose tariffs. fight back against the theft of the american middle-class. penalize those companies that are shipping jobs overseas and give a tax cut to american workers. that's how you build prosperity for this country and that's what we are going to fight for.
11:46 am
[cheers] and let's just recap what kamala harris' policies have actually done. the average michigan family is spending over a thousand dollars per month to pay for what they could have bought three and a half years ago. that's $12,000 a year, a hidden tax of $12,000 a year just to be able to buy what you could have bought three and a half years ago. that is not pro-working people. kamala harris has provided over policies that have seen the cost of housing go up by over 50%. that is not pro-working families. she has seen policies that have seen the cost of eggs go up by more than double. a gallon of milk is now about $4 in the state of michigan. groceries are up 25%. kamala harris' leadership has been tried and it has been found wanting and americans, we want to get back to common sense. we want to be able to afford a nice living, a nice house for our families, and to do that we
11:47 am
have got to elect a common sense leadership of donald j. trump, and that's exactly what everybody in this room is going to do. [cheers] now i want to talk about just something else. you no credit card only when sees are about 9% right now. that means a lot of american families are sacrificing, they are not paying their credit card debt so they can afford groceries or they can afford the mortgage. what a disgrace and what a sad commentary it is on kamala harris' economic policies that you've got hardworking people who are doing everything they can to provide for their families and they are further behind, not because they are not doing their job but because kamala harris isn't doing hers. and ma'am, you are right, kamala harris doesn't care about this because she doesn't understand, she doesn't talk to anybody. she's afraid of interviews. so she doesn't talk to people
11:48 am
and she doesn't realize that her economic policies are making it harder on american families. and you all know my story, i talked about it a little bit last night, but i was raised by a grandmother who sometimes would refuse to turn on the heating at night when times got especially tough. i was raised by a woman who would sometimes forgo paying for her own medicines so that she could put food on the table in our family. and i remember feeling, even though money was tight, that thanks to my grandmother, i never really lacked for anything, but american grandparents and american parents shouldn't have to make those sacrifices to begin with. if you work hard and play by the rules, you ought to be able to afford a good life for your family, and that is what donald trump and i are going to fight for every single day for the next four years. [cheers and applause] and i want to talk about one more issue. we are going to take a few questions but i want to talk about one more issue because the
11:49 am
american media and especially kamala harris and tim walz, they don't want to talk about how this illegal immigration crisis is a theft of the american dream from american citizens. and we see this in small communities. we see this in big cities all over our country. when you let in 25 million people, you know what that does? that stresses municipal budgets so a lot of cities and towns can't afford to provide for their own citizens because they are focused on providing for people who shouldn't be here. you know hospital wait times because illegal aliens use hospital emergency rooms primarily, so hospital wait times have gone up in the state of michigan. they are close to three hours for american citizens who want to go into the hospital and see a doctor. we have got so many problems. housing. you know, when you let in 25 million illegal aliens and they compete with americans for scarce homes, that drives up the cost of housing and that is a major cost of the housing crisis.
11:50 am
i had the debate moderator attempt to fact-check me last night. she said what's your evidence that illegal immigration promotes and increases housing costing increasing? i said first of all, common sense. when you let in millions of people who shouldn't be here, you have to house them somewhere, and those are houses that ought by right go to american citizens. donald trump and i are going to fight for that every single day. american homes for american people. [applause] but there is also, to talk about tim walz economist that he loves to cite, our own federal reservd a study that shows that when you let in a lot of illegal aliens, it jacks up the price of housing. so how about this simple principle. kamala harris wants to give amnesty to millions of illegal aliens. [boos] she does. she wants to bankrupt that a care by giving medicare to illegal aliens. do we want that?
11:51 am
she wants to bankrupt social security by giving social security to illegal aliens. do we want that? here is the donald trump plan and here is the donald trump message to illegal aliens in this country. in six months, pack your bags because you are going home. that's what we are going to do. [applause] and you know, you heard this a little last night, you hear a lot of talk about compassion with the issue of illegal immigration comes up. well, let's talk about compassion. because i am the father of three beautiful young kids. i don't think it is compassionate to empower the mexican drug cartels to engage in sex trafficking along our southern border. that's not compassionate. i don't believe that it's compassionate to flood american cities and towns with fentanyl that is killing our citizens by the tens of thousands. i don't believe that it is compassionate to allow our southern border to become a drug trafficking and business zone or some of the most evil and terrible people in the world.
11:52 am
you know what is compassionate? closing that border down and putting the interests of american citizens first, and that is what we are going to do. [cheers] you know, because these guys, they love to talk about threats to democracy. well, as donald trump often remind you, he took a bullet for democracy, so i do think that any person can accuse the guy of doing anything other than fighting every single day to make this country more prosperous and to make the world more peaceful. but when the media talks about threats to democracy, you know what a threat to democracy is? when you have kamala harris running for president despite not earning a single vote from democratic primary voters. that is a threat to democracy. you know what else is a threat to democracy? when big tech firms and major american companies and big government censors american citizens and deprives them of
11:53 am
their voice in the town square. that's a way bigger threat to democracy than anything else going on, and we are going to stop, we are going to stop it right away. i genuinely think this is one very big difference between kamala harris and donald trump. look, i disagree, of course, with kamala harris, i disagree with governor walz, i disagree with a lot of the folks who support him, but i would die fighting to defend their right to speak their mind even if i disagree with it, and i think every single person in this room believes that because we believe in free speech. [cheers and applause] and as a person who was raised by a couple of working-class, blue-collar democrats, i want to say to every democrat who is watching at home, every democrat who is in this room, you are more than welcome in donald trump's republican party, we are the party of common sense. we've got a big ten, and you are
11:54 am
welcome in our movement. because whether you agree or disagree with us about tax policy or regulatory policy, i think a lot of americans are saying they are sick of the censorship. they are sick of being told what to think and what to say. they are sick of being told they are not allowed to be friends with people they disagree with politically, and they are sick of tired of being told by their government to shut up because we believe in the first amendment in this country. you have every right to petition your government and tell them they are screwing up, and that's exactly what kamala harris is doing. [cheers and applause] >> that is why bobby kennedy endorsed donald trump back because we believe in persuading our fellow americans and not silencing them here that is a big difference between donald trump and kamala harris.
11:55 am
yesterday, governor tim walz said that he cannot shout fire in a crowded theater. you know that line is from a disgraced supreme court opinion, we believe that the solution to bad ideas is to debate them and persuade our fellow americans. kamala harris believes the solution to things she disagrees with his to silence you and to shut you up, it is disgraceful, it is anti-american and we will not stand for it and it donald trump's political movement. [applause] so i would like to close before i take some questions from the media, i would like to remind you that we have to look through kamala harris' lies, she talks about these great plans. some of them she straight copied from donald trump, so it does not sound loud bad, you went to donald j. drum.com and copy pasted it appeared she will put
11:56 am
on her red maga hat next thing you know. if you have all these great ideas kamala harris have a message, why don't you try them right now? you are the sitting vice president and you have not done anything for the american workers and american people. [applause] this sitting vice president cannot say on day one we will tackle the affordability crisis, day one was 1400 days ago and your policies caused the affordability crisis. she cannot say day one we will make the borders more secure because she has been to the borders are for years, telling americans at the border is the cure, she has to do something about it now rather than lying and gas citing the american people. [applause] she talks about restoring the american leadership into the world and bringing back peace
11:57 am
and stability to the walls that has turned to chaos and when she says that i say kamala harris, i have a very good idea for how we can bring peace and stability back to the world, vote for donald trump and bring him back to the oval office. [cheering and applause] so to all of you, to all of you who are here and to all of you who are watching and we'll see clips of this later on, i just want to tell you we have the greatest country in the history of the world appeared we have, i mean flying in here, as a buckeye it is hard to admitted, one of the most beautiful states in the entire united states of america, especially this time of year. i love being in michigan. [cheering and applause] we have the best natural resources, the best people, the best workers, the best history anywhere in the world appeared
11:58 am
in a know a lot of people feel the american dream is out of reach, i know a lot of people feel they has got way too expensive to afforded food and energy, way too expensive to pay the rent. just want to tell you please do not give up on this country because as broken as the leadership of this nation is, it will change again 33 days that only if we get out there and work for it. [cheering and applause] so to every american out of there, we will bring back the american dream, we will bring back affordable groceries, we will make housing and rent possible to afford for normal american citizens. you will cut the border out and close down that border, we will bring the american dream back but only if donald trump is back in the white house and we have with 33 days, that's make it happen, let's fight for it, lots of work for it and make him the
11:59 am
next president! [cheering and applause] let's take a few questions from the reporters, i always like to start with the local reporters first and then we will do the national post if we have time afterwards the one senator j.d. vance, first of all congratulation on last night's debate. >> is thank you. >> i had a chance to speak to voters before you stepped on stage and they said they loved how the debate was civil and policy focus to ask as he got an opportunity to speak to voters outside of the event and i have a question from robert from pontiac, it is a two party question. the first part is, with issues where americans are divided, if elected as the next vice president, how will you bring folks together especially from the other party? nav there is an issue you disagree with donald trump, how will you make your voice heard for the people?
12:00 pm
>> the first question was from robert? >> it correct. >> my message on the first question is i think the reason of this country feels so divided is because of failed leadership and nothing goes. look cagayan genuinely believe this. with a lot of folks who will vote against me and donald trump, there are a lot of people out of their fundamentally good humane beings but the leadership of the democratic party, kamala harris is an absolute disgrace. here is the way, again, why do we have so much division and why do we have so much rancor in this country's political debate? it is because kamala harris and her allies are trying to silence of the american people rather than a engage with empirical when he tried to censor your fellow citizens, when you try to shut them up, you breed division and hatred. donald trump and i will bring to this country back together by encouraging the free exchange of ideas an
