what is the latest on this? >> janice: the storm has weakened a bit, but that does not matter. still a strong four, probably go up to a five as it moves up gulf and interacts with more warm weather. storm surge is the thing, when you have 10 to 15-foot storm surge they have not seen or felt that in their lifetime in >> tammy:a bay area. this is the concern. 180 mile per hour sustained wind says, it was unbelievable. talking about catastrophic damage for this region. you are seeing mass evacuations. here is latest forecast track. it is weakening, might see a bump up to five. expecting landfall of cat four, even if it is a three, it will carry the same amount of storm

surge, that is that wall of water that will not be survivable if it is 10 to 15 feet above sea level. this is tampa area down to port charlotte, up to 15 feet. these areas are at sea level and t topography of west coast of florida cannot withstand this type of storm surge. that wall will move into west coast. 10 foot storm surge in fort myers will be a problem. they had peak from hurricane helene, upward of six to seven foot storm surge and there was severe damage. double that. not a good scenario, that is why people are being told to evacuate. from what i hear, people are

listening to local officials. hurricane warnings, heavy rainfall, prolonged hurricane-force winds. a hurricane for orlando and east coast of florida. keep that in mind. widespread power outages across the state. this is main area from spring hill to naples, biggest concern and most vulnerable city in the u.s., the tampa bay area. heavy rainfall. worst part is storm surge, the wall of water pushed inland and people will not survive that. prayers. i have not seen a lot of these storms in my 20 years, this is a devastating one. >> carley: two big ones back-to-back. >> todd: mayor of tampa said

storm surge is so high, if you don't evacuate, you will die. quite a statement from a mayor to say. bring in duke energy sp spokesperson, anna gibbs. how is damage from hurricane helene impacting your preparation for milton? >> duke energy, we were just this past weekend able to get a rebuild done on the barrier island on pinellas county. customers are able to receive power, thousands of customers, their structure were not safe to energize. it is definitely what we consider a difficult situation when it comes to customers who experienced that storm surge we were just talking about. that same area hardest hit from hurricane helene, not a direct

hit, it was glancing blow, are now target of milton and a potential direct hit. >> todd: talk about employ ees you have who are dealing with their own personal misery because of the damage their own homes and lives received from hurricane helene now preparing for milton who need to help all their fellow floridians at the same time. they are putting their jobs and commitment to people of florida ahead of their own personal lives, talk about that sacrifice for a moment. >> what is inspiring, i'm working side by side with people that when i say these are not people that are counties apart from me, who have lost their homes. they are uninhabitable because they lived in pinellas county.

what is inspiring, speez people are responding to this hurricane and helping our customers get prepared and helping us get prepared for the next hurricane. they are working throughout this response sxchl our linemen responded to this hurricane and went to louisiana for mutual as assistance. this community helps each other out. when a hurricane approaches florida, woe have linemen from colorado and even as far as canada. we are bringing in thousands. we're at 10,000 and today you'll hear we are bringing more in. these linemen leave their families behind, they miss birthdays and anniversaries, we

return that favor. a lot of our linemen have been going nonstop through several hurricanes. they have been impactd and our support staff, when a hurricane like helene comes through, it has had an impact on employees who have lost their homes and they continue to work to ensure customers have lights on. >> todd: you are telling people to turn off their breakers. if everything floods, which is expected and electricity comes back on, water and electricity do not mix. you don't want an electified water feel. best of luck to you and your colleagues. we are praying for you. vice president kamala harris going after desantis after desantis would not answer her call regarding federal relief

>> carley: florida residents are now bracing for what could be strongest storm in a century as hurricane milton barrels to the west coast. a resident in treasure island florida in a barrier island in gulf of mexico in direct path of milton, chuck, joins us now. i'm sure this is a tense time for you. you just experienced helene, so you are already under water. what does treasure island look like now even before milton arrives? >> thank you for joining us, i was probably a knucklehead but

back in high school. my wife and i are doing a lot of praying. we've been on the island for 12 years. we are in three stories. helene, almost three weeks to the day milton is scheduled to make landfall. it was thursday evening when the surge hit and within 20 minutes, we had four foot of water in our home. we lost everything on the first floor and two cars. we have been preparing by sand bagging and salvaging anything from first floor, boarding up and praying. we are leaving, first time in 12 years we are evacuating 11 miles

inland. can't take chances after helene. i can only imagine what milton can do. >> carley: you can only imagine why just the waiting game must take an emotional toll on you and everybody trying to figure out how bad this could be. you talk about things like raw sewage because of power outages. the city had to dump sewage into the road instead. how do you feel about it when you hear about a historic storm, one of the largest storms in a s century. >> nothing much we can do. i have a warning for those who

might be seeing this on barrier islands. we've become commplacent, storm come in and we get water, maybe wind damage. we sand bag and nothing happens and you become commplacent heed advice of officials and get out, we have never seen a storm of this magnitude, they said probably over 100 years. surge is reason why los of lives is drowning. please get out and be safe, all i can tell people. >> carley: governor desantis has gotten rid of some of the tolls so people can travel out of the area. have you noticed traffic build-up? are you worried about that? >> no, a lot of people have left

the barrier island, i know the sdrat, it took a friend seven hours to go -- on 75. if we get out early you have in, we are not leave ig pinellas county, we are go ing out of th flood zone. the sewage stifnch and amount o debris that will become projectile and floating around and our island is devastated know beyond a point i have never seen. i probably slep two hours last night, i can't imagine what account happen. sorry. what could happen. >> carley: i know. >> excuse me. it is very emotional for me. >> carley: no doubt, chuck, those are real emotions.

them we're coming. so it is really about letting people know that folks around you have your back. think about unthinkable here. we literally saw 20-foot storm surge coming off coast in last hurricane and it is going right for tampa, which no one has seen hurricane this strong in our lifetime in those areas. we really have to get prepared and i think it is about letting folks know that we'll be there. more importantly people evacuate and you see now, governor desantis started largest evacuation in history of the united states. people are lining up, it takes common sense preparing and i think state of florida does this better than anyone in the united states of america. >> carley: people impacted are

economy, the border. the deadly shooting is a major topic specifically in your race. how does your position and response to that horrific event differ from your opponent? >> well, there is a huge separation there. i'm somebody that believes if we are going to address this issue, it's got to be with mental health on the forefront. we know that america culture and whatnot is certainly becoming more violent. it's become more violent over the past couple decades. we have to look at what is making people behave this way. you know, the mental health crisis is certainly spiraling out of control. and jared golden's response was to go after the assessment and t and take firearms away from citizens. i strongly believe in the second amendment, i believe the root of the issue is mental health. that's why mychal bloomberg is spending millions of dollars in this case donating to the democrat super pacs trying to
