janice dean live in the studio and ari live in orlando, what is the latest? >> it has been ferocious the last hour and a half to two hours i would say. we first got here after 1:00 in the morning in the northern i will. that is a solid test. i'm trying to keep an eye behind me to make sure nobody break comes in here. some of the strongest winds the entire time we have been here over 60 miles an hour possibly around 70 just eyeballing it. the power is still on in downtown orlando at least for this couple of blocks surrounding where the hotel is. we are set up in a parking garage for our shot year. but we have seen a lot of power flashes over the past hour or two here to the duration of this wind is starting to take its toll. i just recently checked and orange county has close to 75,000 people without power. now, it is one thing to be

downtown with a lot of buildings. they are our trees and various trees here and there average of the downtown damage has been relatively minor at least from what i have seen. small branches down we've had some of the branches blocking storm drain so water pooling on the roads. i am surprised we don't have more damage considering how strong this wind is. i can guarantee you a little bit out of town and rule areas, the damage has to be much worse. there is plenty of tree damage and i think the power outages will continue to go up here to but again lot of power outages that is really jarring in person but the skylights up bluish green and at first you think it is lightning in a process for little while and you know what is going on. we were here for the northern part of the eye well from 12:30 a.m. and till 1:00 a.m. or so before we get into the eye before calm down. we did not see power flashes and the power situation was a lot better.
2:04 am
so i think the power outage situation is heavily the pendant upon the duration of the land. it is not just the strength of the wind. if it persists for a long time, things will get out for little while. and this is only category 1 hurricane. it is funny i was talking and this is the strongest win i've ever been in and this is fairly category 1. it is mind-blowing feeling the power of the land and how strong 60 mile-per-hour wind gust is an 5'10", 160 and tough to end up in that and lower center of gravity and that. so the wind wind gust i would say the strongest we have seen likely about 75-80 miles an hour. so yeah, consistent with what we have here for category 1 hurricane. unfortunately, guys, things have panned out badly for orlando. there was one point yesterday where it looked like the center of the storm would go well south of orlando and we would still be

in the lynnfield but not the direct 8:30. we got the whole eye, northern eye when it quieted down. it is eerie if you have never experienced this before. you get slammed by one side of the eye of the hurricane entering experience in and of itself and then it calms down. for the layperson going through that, it feels like it is over and even for me as a meteorologist, you get that feeling speaking in a little bit and always a surprise when that backside 8:30 wall comes and even if it makes sense. >> you have experienced so many different stages of the storm, this i wall and the eye in the backside of it. has any part of this surprise you at all in this back portion of the storm and how strong it is in terms of wind gusts? >> i would say what surprised me yesterday how quickly the land came on. when we were setting up our shop

there shot no wind at all and escalated so fast throughout the day. we had a early wake-up call so i had to go to bed really early which is to have for weather like me when you have a hurricane coming in. i kept looking out the window at the hotel and we could see how strong the winds were getting. with anything surprising about this, i wouldn't say anything is surprising because it's a will forecast storm. the life-threatening details in the forecast further the coast and ta tampa bay dodged a bullet with storm surge and obviously strong land. devastating land out there. and here we were forecast to get a hurricane. this is not the first time this has happened. some people took it seriously and i was impressed talking with the people. i think the modern era, this is why you see in general hurricanes, tropical systems,

2:09 am
getting so strong wind gusts, i think the last wind gust 70 miles an hour where ari is pure to the take away from this storm will be the incredible tornado reports. yes tropical tornadoes are part of the risk that we talk about when we have these landfall hurricanes. but look at the scope of the tornado warnings yesterday. it was prolific and we will have reports of ef3 and damage but typically with hurricane land falls, you see weaker, quick spin at, but we had like a full on tornado outbreak yesterday. and taking a look at the highly populated neighborhoods of fort myers, west palm beach, down towards miami and up into melbourne, the damage is significant from the tornadoes. so that is one of the risk of the landfall hurricanes as well as the search, heavy rainfall, strong winds.

18 inches of rain at st. petersburg and that is coming in a matter of hours on top of 2 feet surplus of rainfall all along the west coast. that is something that is significant and as the sun comes up, we will see obviously flooding concerns and flooding damage. there is a flash flooding still occurring for parts of orlando and daytona beach and flash flood warnings for the next few minutes. the good news is flash flood warning for tampa area since left in. 107 miles an hour of tennis coach at st. petersburg, 102 miles an hour. so we knew from category three transform when it made impact and we talked about the wind field expanding from pretty tight category 5 hurricane. as it started to weaken a little bit and interacted with a cold front and you started to see that transition almost like nor'easter type storm and very big scope of wind potential for the whole state of florida. plan gusts and look at

>> carley: brand new video of tropicana field in florida wreak havoc across the state. >> look at that the roof is were to off. >> todd: obviously the field that's not the main concern right now. look, a lot of damage there as well. it's going to take some time to get the trop ready for baseball. 3 million people without power. as well as the safety and security of everybody. homes and businesses absolutely destroyed across the state of florida. biden harris administration though focused on calling out misinformation about federal responses. >> are we concerned about any misinformation or disinformation regarding evacuations that we need to clear up at this point? >> there's been a lot of misinformation out there, madam

vice president. >> why do you think trunk is spreading misinformation? >> i don't know. it's not america. it's not who the hell we are. >> i'm going to divorce the disinformation being spread. disinformation is harmful. >> todd: congressman greg steube joins me now. a lot of soundbites to get through there. first of all, you are in sarasota. describe what it was like in sarasota overnight. >> it was -- i mean, the eye of the hurricane went right over us, so you had 100 mile-per-hour wind going one way and after the eye passed 100 mile-per-hour winds going the opposite way. a lot of wind before that we don't have cell service. we don't have power. i'm on generator power that's how i'm able to talk to you now. i would imagine most of the people in my district do not have power right now. so, hopefully, all of those people that were in the evacuation areas evacuated because law enforcement and first responders can't go out if the winds are over 45 miles per hour. so that didn't subside until

probably, i don't know, 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning. you couldn't even respond to 911 calls until that wind died down. so today will be recovery and search and rescue make sure if there is anybody out there we have 400 national guard at river view high school in sarasota. we have got our power line guys on the ground. so all of this now will start to recover and get power back on and make sure that people are safe. >> carley: congressman, we spoke to somebody earlier in the show his name is jeff snell. i still can't get over his story he owns a store in sarasota he says was three quarters destroyed during hurricane helene. during that storm his store was flooded and he says he has hurricane insurance but not flood insurance and because the waters came up through the floor boards and didn't initially, a window didn't initially break, he's not covered from the storm. so there is going to be a huge financial toll to this storm.

what about that and the days ahead for small business owners and people whose businesses and homes have been destroyed? >> yeah. what is so heartbreaking about this is punta gorda in my district just got flooded by hurricane helene and those same places got flooded. you can watch the video online right now. it's heart breaking myself and senator scott were down there last week touring some of the devastation and these businesses were rebuilding and ripping out drywall and now all of them got flooded again. siesta keys another great example was recovering from hurricane helene, got flood, got huge storm surge and they were at the eye of the hurricane. i have seen some footage but it doesn't look too bad from a storm surge in siesta because it could be south of the eye. but you have got all these people recovering from two weeks ago getting hit by hurricane helene who now have all gotten hit again it's very, very challenging. >> todd: people suffered in helene, people are suffering now and are going to be suffering in

the days and weeks and months to come. yet, you have the white house, kamala harris says are we concerned about misinformation or disinformation when in a briefing with the fema director, instead of talking about the response. and then you have a reporter asking a ridiculously opinionated and bias question why do you think trump is spreading misinformation assuming a fact in that question and the president going off yelling about how it's unamerican. the fact of the matter is what is your reaction to comments like that at the time when there are legitimate questions about fema responding to natural disasters which is their stated mission, congressman. >> it is absolutely ridiculous. secretary mayorkas himself who was impeached in the house by the way. secretary mayorkas himself said they were out of money. said they were transferring funds to help illegal immigrants resettlement. the white house spokesperson was saying that a year or so ago they were transferring funds to do it. it's really frustrating when

suddenly facts come out and they don't like the narrative, they label it misinformation and they try to characterize things that republicans are saying that are fact are not fact when in fact they care more about illegal immigrants in this country than they do american citizens that have been hit by a natural disaster. >> carley: it's true. and it's unfortunate that it's become political. i mean, during president biden's press conference yesterday, he said that there are no red states or blue states during a hurricane and then went on to criticize how people feel -- how victims feel in some of the red areas that were impacted by helene. congressman, thank you so much for joining us. we are praying for you and everybody impacted by this storm right now. continuing conch on hurricane milton begins right now. ♪ ♪ >> carley: this is a fox weather alert. this is a live look just north of orlando as hurricane milton tears through florida. right now the cat 1 storm is battering the space coast wi
