cease-fire seems somewhat irresponsible but calling for a surrender and release of all the hostages seems to make more sense. >> yeah. i think there is an opening here on the hostages, depending on who takes over. if it's one of the political leaders in qatar and three or four of them are there, that becomes the new leader of hamas, they clearly had disagreed with sinwar's obstinence and maybe that door will open and you will be able to get the hostages out. my israeli sources tell me of the 101 hostages, 48 are confirmed dead. and they certainly want to get the rest of them out of there because the longer they stay there, obviously their lives are in jeopardy and we have seen the evidence of all of that so that would be a good thing. prime minister netanyahu is not going to agree to a permanent cease-fire here when he has got thousands of fighters still in gaza to deal with.

minar is on the ground there. i think you are in asheville, is that right? asheville, north carolina. hey, jane. >> good morning, ainsley. we are in swannanoa just outside of asheville. the road to recovery in north carolina is going to be a long one, quite literally. ndot saying nearly 7,000 roosdz and bridges have been damaged with early damage estimates up to over several billion dollars so far. secretary of transportation pete buttigieg was in asheville yesterday surveying some of that damage. listen. >> there's nothing like being here, seeing it for yourself and speaking with people who have been impacted. it redoubles our motivation to make sure that the federal government is doing everything that we can. that includes the work of fema. it includes, of course, the work of our department. we have got the first 100 million out to help with the immediate needs that the governor's team are meeting. but we know with 7,000 damage

sites around the impact area and hundreds of road closures that this is going to be a long haul. >> and a lot of hard work has been done. 600 roads still remain closed with 100 of those on parts of interstates as well as federal and state highways. as far as crews, there are 2,000 crews out here working across western north carolina to reopen those access points and quite literally rebuild these roads to communities. as far as early voting goes, i know that there are 76 polling centers open in these hard-hit counties in western north carolina. down from the planned 80. and, lawrence, that absentee ballots will be accepted at any county board of elections up to and on election day. >> lawrence: a lot of folks concerned about that. i'm glad you provided that information, my friend. great reporting on the ground. so the state of our swing state

continues on our "fox & friends." so we're going to be wrapping it up today. let's go to the big board. today is north carolina. remember, we are tracking five swing states but north carolina today. look at the polling. right now when you look at this poll right now kamala harris has 49%. donald trump is at 47%. when you look at the rcp average though, you got donald trump up by 1 percentage point. why does this matter? if you go back to 2016, he defeated hillary clinton in this state by 3 points. but if you go back to 2020 against joe biden he won by 1 point. within the margin of error let's see how it plays outs. we continue to say this, it is the economy, the economy, that is the top issue and donald trump has 51% of the support when it comes to that. kamala harris, her issue as we continue to say abortion, abortion, abortion, immigration is 50% when it comes to donald trump. and when the democrats keep

running on protecting democracy, of course, kamala harris has 51% there. this last one, i think this really puts an issue into play from 2020, the population has grown in north carolina. almost 400,000 new people there. so how are they going to vote? this used to be a solid republican pickup. let's talk with some folks that's on the ground. north carolina columnist jon hood joins me with what to expect in north carolina going into election day. jon, let's pick up right there, a lot of folks moving to north carolina. it's a tight race right now. what is going to be the defining issue? >> well, you said it just a moment ago. it's the economic issues, inflation, cost of living, jobs, that's about half of the voters identify one of those things as the top issue. abortion and immigration are the other ones that have significant play. you mentioned earlier the hurricane coverage and that's certainly dominated the headlines in north carolina for the last couple of weeks.

starting to fade away a little bit. people are starting to focus back in on the election. and early voting started yesterday. we had a bonanza of votes. about 350,000 early votes yesterday including many of hard hit mountain counties pretty strong turnout for early voting. >> lawrence: just because these folks were in the storm, we saul their resilience. they are still going out to vote. i guess my question is to say donald trump has the edge or do you see that kamala harris has the edge? a poll released yesterday had donald trump up by six tenths of a point. not very much very -- as you said earlier, not all that different from previous elections going back to 2008. north carolina tends to have 1, 2, 3 point races, sometimes less

than a point. right now north carolina looks slightly trump slightly only is what can i say about that. >> lawrence: can we go back to population, 400,000 folks moving to north carolina? are these disgruntled voters with high tax states? are they more conservative or are we learning that these are independents or quite -- they could be progressive voters? >> that's right. many of these voters are coming from other southern states. they might not be all that different from north carolina voters. a lot of them are fleeing northeastern states, west coast states. don't assume that newcomers are the inherently democratic or inherently republican in recent election cycles in north carolina, newcomers have been voting a little more republican than -- excuse me a little more democrat than republican. but i don't think that's necessarily true this year. and if you look at the early vote just yesterday, the republicans had quite a big jump in early voting compared to four

years ago. the democrats had about a 50,000 vote decline in the first day of early voting. that doesn't necessarily mean that's going to be permanent. but it certainly means that this is one of the closest elections in the country, and it has been now for a couple of decades. >> lawrence: john, it looks like some of the messaging has changed. i know republicans were reluctant for early voting and the mail-in ballots. it looks like because of the candidate at the top of the ticket is pushing his voters to go out there to vote that we are seeing it in some of the data right now. john hood thank you for joining the program this morning. >> thank you. >> lawrence: first aurora, colorado, and now san antonio, texas. one says that the venezuelan gang tren de aragua takeover could be worse than we think. that's next. ♪

congressional candidate, veteran and san antonio reference jay fuhrman, hey, jay, thanks for coming on. >> good morning, ainsley. thanks for having me on. >> ainsley: thank you for coming on. tell me what is happening in san antonio. >> i appreciate you all covering this because it needs coverage. the migrant resource center is where the illegals are brought in from the border and it's a mid shipping point. a trans shipping point to the rest of the united states. we ship more than anybody else. in fact, we increased our airport lines here recently and we are adding an annex on and that's not because of increased tourism at least not american tourism. tren de aragua is has taken over areas. not a big secret but surprise to san antonio residents this has been happening since the new year. the city administrators from the police chief, the mayor, and the sheriff have been keeping this tamped down. i think they are hoping to get kamala administration, i hate to give them bad news. but we have got fema money, let

a nice neighborhood in dallas. now we are seeing this in san antonio. i understand that the police were alerted and they went and cleaned out 300 apartments and arrested nine individuals including four gang members. operating out of this complex the last five or six months. known for drug smuggling, child prostitution and human trafficking. are the police handling this? is city council doing anything about it? >> well, now they are. you know, it's even hard to get crime statistics, ainsley, until the state came in with the texas rangers and had multi attack march the 4th of this complex to really take it back. you know, you said it, the worst of the worst of your imagination are happening in this apartment complex. counter-terrorism works the same way. these are terrorists. soar time you squeeze the balloon, we would say, they pop out other places so now they have fractured across the city there is even flop houses in nice neighborhoods selling beds. this is getting out of control.
