who they are, without having to hide any part of their identity, i know that my work is done because students are afraid to show their jewish identity. >> that ban now comes as lawmakers are calling on the university and f.b.i. to investigate a student group for some of their comments that they posted on social media calling for acts of violence, they say. the f.b.i. had no comment to us on that request for an investigation. the university says there is no place for calls for violence on our campuses. he remains temporarily banned until he takes training on conduct for employees. send it back to you. >> bill: still a story. thanks, lydia hu. >> dana: it's ridiculous. >> bill: talking about the dei piece at the university of michigan. times are changing. >> dana: hair yays faulkner is up next. >> harris: 18 days until election day and new fox news
8:01 am
polling shows more and more voters are lining up behind former president trump's position on a very important top issue on the minds of voters. the border. i'm harris faulkner and you are in "the faulkner focus." 2/three of registered voters favor deporting illegal immigrants back to their home countries. a strong majority of non-white voters are among them. that policy closely aligns with former president trump's call for mass deportations and last month vice president kamala harris was mocking trump's plan. watch. >> they have pledged to carry out the largest deportation, mass deportation in american history. imagine what that would look like and what that would be. how is that going to happen? massive raids? massive detention camps?
8:02 am
what are they talking about? >> harris: she should ask barack obama because his nickname when he was president was deporter in chief. he got rid of the criminals. she should ask him how that would look. fox polling finds a major split between trump and harris, voters on that issue. trump supporters call immigration one of the most pivotal issues deciding their vote. only 1% of kamala harris's supporters say it is important to them. trump continued to push back against democrats' border policies just today. >> if they win the election they will open up the border and it will be open for four years. i got elected in 2016 on the border. i had a great border. the difference is it's much morse this time. they are allowing millions of people into our country that shouldn't be here. >> harris: marsha blackburn also is criticizing the vice president over the crisis.
8:03 am
>> she does not care about this issue enough to know how many migrants have come in, how many terrorists, how many gangs, how many gotaways are in this country. >> harris: correspondent lucas tomlinson is at the white house now. >> former president trump had a lot more to say about the border in that interview on "fox & friends" this morning. let's take a listen what he had to say. >> i think the border is a bigger thing than inflation and economy. i watch your polling where it says the economy and inflation at number one and two and then it says -- always says three. i think the border is bigger. >> during fox debut the vice president was avoiding questions. she did express opposition to decriminalizing border crossings, reversal from her previous stance. more from her interview with bret baier. >> we recognized from day one
8:04 am
that to the point of this being your first question, it is a priority for us as a nation and for the american people. and our focus has been on fixing a problem and from day one then we have done a number of things, including to address our asylum system and put more resources. >> harris, the border dominated your town hall in georgia just a few days ago. expect this issue to be a imagine or one as we approach the election just over two weeks from today. >> harris: thank you. you know what was interesting, irrespective of how people poll they are feeling things differently. some are feeling crime linked to illegal immigration. some are feeling the press for resources. it is touching everybody. i appreciate you. ben domenech, fox news contributor and spectator editor at large. great to have you on the program. we always knew it was in the top
8:05 am
three, the entire election season now. this is such a tender spot for kamala harris. of course she doesn't want to talk about it. bret's first question on the border she is dodging and weaving and doing all the things but we have 18 days. that's going to be a lot of dodge ball. >> you are an expert interviewer and know how skilled bret is when it comes to this and the simply fact is he demanded an answer right off the bat that was simply about the number of people who have come across the border. asking a fact-based question, not an opinion-based question in that moment. kamala harris couldn't answer it because to answer it is to admit that everything that they've done regarding the border has been a failure. and that's something that she is not willing to admit except it would also be something that would be, you know, conducive with frankly the entire approach
8:06 am
they've had toward our border security. they have not cared about it. they have been willing to ignore it and willing to allow millions of people across, including people who have not been vetted at all, including people who have committed almost immediately criminal acts that have been criticized even by members of her own party, including bill clinton. look, harris, i worked on capitol hill back in the early 2000s for texas senator john cornyn who is still there. when we were negotiating the prospect of having a guest worker-based border security bill. at that point there were people who were coming across the border who were overwhelmingly people who were seeking work. it was, you know, young men trying to come across, do agricultural work and the like and then go back home. that's not what we have here at all today. what we have here is a funnel from the cartels, human trafficking, sex trafficking and people bringing drugs and all
8:07 am
sorts of other elements into our country in way that is incredibly dangerous. the fact that we're still operating for most of the media from this old mindset, something that is 20 plus years old of the idea that these people are just coming here to work, that they are just trying to find their way in the world, it's absurd. that's the frame that kamala harris brings to all of this. it's a sign she is so poorly equipped to be commander-in-chief in any way, shape or form. >> harris: getting your background on this issue with texas senator cornyn is really helpful because you have seen it across decades, as you say. the comparison now is actually not just bad that other media are not reporting it truthfully about what is happening, but also dangerous. like if they can't see that there are a lot of members from this one venezuelan gang coming in, tda, tren de aragua tron, and then others coming in and
8:08 am
breaking our initial. >> it is a completely different situation. it is not -- the simple fact is 20 plus years ago we were dealing with people who were migrant workers, okay? people who wanted to come across, make money, go back home. use that money to feed their family. now we're dealing with a cartel-fueled situation where they are trying to take over in many ways communities across american, including these apartment buildings and everything we've seen. not just in aurora but texas as well. these are people who are intent on using the democratic policies that kamala harris favors, broken system to make money, to profit from it, and to basically use every kind of generosity-based program that the democrats are in favor of in order to extract more money and to inflict more human pain on our society. >> harris: the former president
8:09 am
also spoke about border security because it was a feature of our town hall. so many women had responded with questions we knew it was going to come up. it was all women, as you know. i hosted that this week in the battleground state of georgia. let's take a touch on this subject. >> my name is -- my family escaped communist vietnam 30 years ago. this is my question for you. america is a land of opportunity and its policy welcome immigrants legally. how different is your policy when it comes to securing or borders and only accepting people to the u.s. >> we want to have as many people as possible. they have to come in legally. we don't want murderers or people from prison that are being let out after murdering somebody. so many people work to come in
8:10 am
our country. worked for ten years and getting ready and millions of people pour through the southern border and they fly them over in airplanes. nobody knew that until about nine months ago. >> harris: ben, this idea of mass deportation that former president trump has talked about isn't just getting a little bit of traction. when you look at the number of people now who are saying you have to deport the people who are here who don't belong to be here, it is now 67%. it was 56, two weeks ago and it was 52 before that. >> what is happening now, i want to be very clear about this. people will lie to you. they will say this is fomented by people online. that it is something coming from the right wing. it is not. it is coming from human experience. it is coming from what we see in our streets and in our communities. this is something that is
8:11 am
obvious to all of us that we have too many people here who are coming from criminal elements who need to be sent back, who need to be deported who did not stand in line and did not do their due diligence or participate in a legal process any way, shape or form. that's the kind of thing that i think really allows the former president to cut through a lot of the b.s. we hear from other people in the media who are unwilling to acknowledge that this system has failed. it has failed the american people. and to the degree that it has worked, it has worked in the agenda and the plan of the progressive left which would like to import all these people and immediately give them the vote, put them on welfare and say we're just going to run you up over and over again in every election cycle. >> harris: well, i mentioned this earlier, kamala harris said i don't know what mass deportation would look like. ask barack obama, the former
8:12 am
nickname by democrats deporter in chief. >> i'm sorry, harris. i miss him a little bit. could he come back and take over for the next three months just to do a mass deportation? comearri oh my goodness. >> never thought i would miss that guy. >> harris: we'll get more of the same, 1 1/2 million people that way through a legal process that as you said is being taken advantage of now by people who can get here. it all is on the burden of the people who want to be here for the right reasons and be part of our economy. that's what the former president was talking about at the town hall. all right. i want to thank you. it is always good to see you. we've got more to do with you. virginia's governor and attorney general are hitting back against a justice department lawsuit over immigrants and voting. at issue there is an executive order that governor glenn
8:13 am
youngkin issued in august. that order removed more than 6,000 non-citizens from the commonwealth's voter registration rolls. youngkin and his attorney general are saying this. >> it has been applied for 18 years. as recently as democrat governor mccaul i have and north am. >> what d.o.j. is missing is common sense. a law that has been on the books in virginia since 2006 signed into law by governor tim kaine, a democrat. >> harris: youngkin is being sued for what any governor is supposed to do. he says removing people who declare themselves non-citizens is common sense. many americans have doubts. some justified, some not, about the integrity of their elections. mr. garland's 11th hour intervention will do nothing but stoke them. ben, this is how it works and
8:14 am
the law that glenn youngkin has been showing every reporter and interviews that i'm watching from afar from his local news, he is saying that the way it's written is if you identify yourself as a non-citizen, you check that box when you vote, or you leave it blank, then that is looked upon as being somebody who potentially is not. they have a way to cure that several times to make sure that that ballot self-identity is correct. if it still doesn't get fixed. >> you are admitting to it. >> harris: you are saying i'm a non-citizen. you can fix it if you forgot to check the box. this is child level of understanding of the basics of how this works and you have a fight on the left. >> i live in the commonwealth of virginia. my wife does as well. we vote and simple fact is someone who goes to vote canceling us out and also
8:15 am
checking that box is absurd. the fact that they want to cure these ballots to be able to say people should not be able to vote based on the fact that they have admitted that they are not legal citizens is something that is so basic, i can't believe that our governor, a straight forward republican in glenn youngkin is being sued by merrick garland. to me this is an indictment of not just the system of the department of justice, which obviously needs major, major reforms in the next administration, but it is also just like do you not want to have people vote who are legally allowed to vote? this is a very basic question. i mean, does merrick garland have to answer for that? it's so basic. we should obviously all be able to come together, regardless of partisan alignment and say people should only be allowed to vote if they are legally allowed
8:16 am
to vote. i guess the department of justice doesn't agree with that. >> harris: some democrats don't agree with that. the mayor here promising people who come across the border legally or illegally will be able to vote. i did not know your connections to the commonwealth as well as that was also helpful. ben, always good to see you. thank you for joining me. former president trump and vice president kamala harris are both campaigning today in the critical blue wall state of michigan. we call it a blue wall. she has to win it to win. some experts say trump seems to have the edge there. plus trump leading among catholic voters according to the polls. it probably won't help the vice president she skipped last night's al smith catholic charity dinner in new york city. a huge traditional bipartisan
8:17 am
event. we have not seen one or the other side not show up to that dinner in 40 years. she broke with tradition and she needs that vote. she sent a video. here is a touch. >> just so you know there will be a fact checker there tonight. >> that's great, who? >> jesus. don't say anything negative about catholics. >> i would never do that no matter where i was. that would be like criticizing detroit in detroit.
8:18 am

>> harris: former president donald trump and vice president kamala harris are both holding multiple events today in the key battleground state of michigan. it is one of three so-called blue wall states which include pennsylvania, wisconsin, and michigan obviously. both campaigns want to shore up support and votes in 18 days. until people go. keep if mind a lot of people have already early voted but they're coming in with their closing arguments. that's what they are trying to do. according to the real clear politics polling average, trump is narrowly up in all three states by less than a single percentage point. here is why that's important. president biden carried all three of those states.
8:24 am
there were slim margins in 2020 but he had that going into this point. former clinton advisor doug schoen says that's a problem. >> the so-called blue wall of michigan, wisconsin, and pennsylvania is eroding for the democrats. there is a level of disorganization on the ground and not a clear message. >> harris: leslie marshall and kaley mcgee white. great to have you both here. so look, this is not complicated. there are three states critical ones that you are looking at and, you know, kaley, if you are running ahead by a bit and the other side of the ticket had -- >> i'm born and raised in detroit. i don't see a path forward for kamala harris in michigan or any
8:25 am
one of the blue wall states when she is as underwater as she is with men specifically, working class men. these are auto workers in detroit and yet i have yet to see her why she struggles and doesn't address the issues they care about months. one of the big three laid off 1,000 auto workers last week. have you seen her express any regret for the green agenda she and biden rammed through that is threatening the entire auto industry? the only thing she has to say about these issues is that she is from a middle class fame leaf. that's great and all but not a policy, not a plan of action and it is certainly not a winning campaign message. >> harris: leslie marshall. you are on rebuttal. >> thank you so much, harris, i'm jumping out of my skin. did you hear what donald trump said about the united auto
8:26 am
workers largely based in the state of michigan and what he said about the people in the city of detroit within the state of michigan? look, nobody is -- with all due respect, nobody is underwater when you are less than one percentage point whether it is your candidate or my candidate. that's just a reality. i would love to be under water running against somebody at.6 or.7 with all respect to bev-in and till veer at.6 and seven. reality is it will be a tight race and we knew that. donald trump, former president trump has been running for years. kamala harris hasn't had as long to run and i'm surprised she is not doing better in michigan but this just shows in these states, harris, how close this race is. >> harris: you are very transparent on that issue. you give us a window into it. very transparent on that issue. this is really on, you know, the people at the dnc and the people higher up in your party. if they wanted to put her on
8:27 am
that ticket before june 27th debacle of a debate for joe biden they could have done that. the decline in his ability to reach out to voters and keep up that rigorous campaign schedule was already going to be seen and already experiencing some of that. the fact that she only has 18 days left now is not anybody's fault except for your party and very transparent on the fact that even you are surprised she couldn't do it with all the help she has got. we are where we are and voters will decide. kamala harris made history last night in not in a productive way. much to leslie's point. you don't have a lot of time left. she was the first presidential nominee since 1984, 40 years to skip the al smith foundation dinner but sent a pre-recorded video message that featured an alumni from "saturday night live" who was funny but it
8:28 am
wasn't her night. >> i'm trying to record my speech for tonight's dinner. >> there will be a fact checker there tonight. >> that's great, who? >> jesus. and maybe don't say anything negative about catholics. >> harris: molly, again, not the person who is in the hot seat but she stole the show there and did a lot of talking. we didn't see kamala harris until two or three minutes in the video. people on lynn weren't into it. one said it came across as negative and insulting. if you can't show up don't expect applause. kamala harris would have been better off doing nothing rather than sending this ridiculous cringe video. former president donald trump head lined the event and got off some zingers. >> it's really a pleasure. anywhere in new york without a subpoena for my appearance. chuck schumer is here looking
8:29 am
very glum considering how woke your party has become, if kamala loses you still have a chance to become the first woman president. the last democrat not to attend this important event was walter mondale and it did not go very well for him. [laughter] he lost 49 states. >> harris: i mean, wow. she was not even there to stand at that lectern and talk about whatever she wanted to talk about. she was a no-show. according to a new pew research survey trump leads among catholics and christian voters. it was a lay-up for president trump and funny. he got in some jabs. the attorney general of new york, letitia james was on the dais with him he is waiting for indictments and allegations and everything. >> kamala harris gave him that win simply by not showing up and
8:30 am
speaks to a big difference between trump and harris throughout the campaign cycle. trump is willing to go into just about any room or any environment regardless of how hostile it might be. you were there at the national association of black journalists earlier this summer and saw how he was received. he did that event anyway. he will campaign in the middle of manhattan, new york or california. there will be one or two who like him and persuaded to like him. kamala harris is only interested in representing the people who coronated her, top democratic elite. >> harris: leslie. >> did you say that with a straight face? she was just on this network with 7.1 million viewers, 4 million more than the former president. he has canceled six events. he has canceled six events and in addition to that -- >> harris: i have to step in there. i have to.
