calendar. candidates in a full on sprint. you will see this every day now, folks. former president moonlighting as a fry cook as we say hello, good morning, everybody. hope you had a joyous weekend. bill hemmer live in new york city. >> dana: i'm dana perino and this is "america's newsroom." at this point in the cycle you see who is winning the news cycle every day. i think he won it yesterday. because yesterday was so good at mcdonalds looks like he will win it again today. >> bill: when you eat mcdonalds fries, ketchup, salt, both or what? i did it saturday. salt only. >> dana: we have a lot for you this week. let's kick it ow with this. vice president harris campaigned in georgia and michigan and former president trump was in pennsylvania as we mentioned he worked the shift at mcdonalds. >> he was at the fryer and the drive through fulfilling a life long dream in the process, he says. >> my first day at mcdonalds.
6:02 am
i always wanted to work at mcdonalds but i never did. i'm running against somebody that said she did but turned out to be a phony story. if you don't mind, i want to work the french fry counter. i like it all. i love it. i like every ounce of it, everything. >> dana: appearance is sending democrats into a tizzy. >> what is on the docket today. man, there is a lot. the vice president will be in the blue wall states of pennsylvania, michigan, wisconsin. she needs all three. former president trump will head to north carolina to tour the devastation from helene. the vp nominee jd vance will join us live in a moment. let's begin our reporting in concord, north carolina, bill melugin north of charlotte today. >> former president donald trump has several campaign stops here in north carolina today but as you guys just mentioned he had himself a very busy weekend and he was all over the headlines.
6:03 am
we'll start with last night. look. donald trump visited the nfl game between the steelers and the jets where as soon as he walked into that stadium and the crowd saw him chants of usa brock out from the crowd. trump was joined by steeler star antonio brown out campaigning for him in recent days. hours before that football game trump made a visit to a pennsylvania mcdonalds. you guys showed this. he got rid of the suit. put on an apron and got to work making french fries and working the drive-thru as supporters cheered for him outside. he was trolling kamala harris claims to have worked at mcdonalds saying there is no evidence before. he believes he has worked at mcdonalds 15 more minutes than harris ever did. he made a visit to the a barber shop in the bronx. he spoke with mostly minority men in there. a pretty informal setting.
6:04 am
held a q and a about topics the men care about. the border and how to get rid of sanctuary cities. >> we get rid of them. we get rid of them. they are for criminals. all over the country the criminals go there. but you are right. the polls are showing that inflation and -- not the border, the border is third. they have inflation and the economy as the number one and number two issue. i disagree. i think inflation is massive. the economy is massive. the border to me is the fabric of our country. >> as we mentioned trump will have several campaign stops here in north carolina today where the latest fox news polling shows vp kamala harris has a slim 2-point lead over trump with registered voters. we should point out that poll was from last month and is within the margin of error. when trump gets to north carolina today, he is first going to have an event in asheville in the western part of the state. that was an area that was just
6:05 am
devastated by hurricane helene where recovery efforts are very much underway. then later in the afternoon he will come right here where we are in concord, north carolina holding a round table with religious leaders here and hinting that former u.n. ambassador nikki haley may soon be joining him on the campaign trail in the coming days. that's certainly something we'll be keeping an eye out for, guys. send it back to you. >> bill: we'll see if it comes to pass. nice to see you bill melugin kicking off a brand-new week. thank you. >> dana: vice presidential nominee senator jd vance joins us now. great to have you on the show. thank you for being here. i was saying to bill at the top of the show at this point in the cycle you see which campaign is trying to win the news cycle. i would say president trump won it yesterday and that continues today because this trip to mcdonalds was creative, it was fun, and it has gotten a ton of views not just on television but all over social media. there is another way to look at it, though, coming from some of
6:06 am
the mainstream media headlines, sir. rolling stone trump makes fries at mcdonalds in bizarre attempt to troll harris. "washington post." trump serves mcdonalds supportner a campaign stop. trump attempts to troll harris by serving fries at a pennsylvania mcdonalds. a staged managed campaign stop. what do you make of that? >> well, i actually went to a sports bar outside of lambeau field yesterday before the packers game. they won. and i was pouring some beers for people there at the bar and i felt pretty good about myself. saw the news headlines about donald trump at mcdonalds. i said i was serving beer as you were serving fries. he did win the news day. the president has to have security because there have been two attempts on his life in the last eight weeks. he can't just walk into a
6:07 am
mcdonalds and sign a w9 and go on the payroll. it is not how it works given the security threats on his life. look, he was interacting with people. he was talking to the employees. he was giving people food and he was just being what he does best. being among the people, talking to them about what they care about. he showed genuine interest in the employees, lives, where they came from and what they were doing in their job. you can't stage and fake that. that's the genuine person donald trump is and why a lot of working people, even he is a successful real estate billionaire, have this emotional connection to donald trump. you can't make up that kind of connection. unfortunately kamala harris has tried and failed. i think it is why her campaign is flailing a little bit right now. she goes into sheets and does four takes of her buying doritos. trump goes into mcdonald and he is who he is and people love him.
6:08 am
>> bill: did she work at mcdonalds as a student in college or was she lying? >> i don't know if there is a campaign position on it. i haven't spoken with donald trump about this. what we find weird about this is kamala harris has been able to produce no evidence that she worked at mcdonalds and didn't talk about it until 2019 during her first run for the united states senate. i don't know what's ultimately true here but interesting where the media will try to nitpick and micro manage every single thing that me or donald trump has said and they just buy into the narrative from kamala harris that she invented five or six years ago. just do journalism. maybe it's true, maybe it isn't. i don't trust the media's lack of curiosity about this issue when they nitpick everything else the republican candidates do. >> dana: there was a sea change last week towards the end of the week in two battleground states in pennsylvania and wisconsin. the two senators there, democrats incumbents are in tough races, bob casey, tammy
6:09 am
baldwin. they had something new in their ads. >> casey bucked biden to protect fracking and sided with trump to end nafta and put tariffs on china to stop them from cheating. >> tammy baldwin got president trump to sign her bill. >> dana: the states from the last congressional cycle. casey voted with biden 98.5% and baldwin 95.5% of the time. are they seeing writing on the wall to get away from biden-harris? >> let me say two things about this. bob casey what he is saying it's not true. i served with him. he has been a down the line partisan democrat during his entire time. he didn't defend pennsylvania manufacturers and dave mccormick i think will win the race. the politics are fascinating. you notice dave mccormick and
6:10 am
eric hovde aren't running ads how they agree with biden-harris. what i think kamala harris has seen in her following important weeks. her policies just aren't popular. people are trying to run away from it as much as they can. this is a person, kamala harris, who casts a deciding vote on trillions of dollars in new spending. signed onto the open border policies of the last 3 1/2 years. now she is trying to run as a change agent. kamala harris is more of the same. she governed that way. we'll get even more of the bad policies in the last 3 1/2 years if we promote her to president and why i think the american people will make donald trump the president of the united states in just two short weeks. >> bill: a couple interviews within a last week. he is asked about the enemies from within comments. i've read all of it and listened to all of it.
6:11 am
hard for me to understand. why is it necessary? >> donald trump is unfiltered. this is one of the reasons why the campaign has gone well is because he is not doing a basement campaign strategy. he is not just running on slogans. when people ask him questions he speaks from the heart and sometimes that means he will talk about issues that the mainstream media isn't focused on. i think americans are asking themselves when we had this terrible riots in the summer of 2020, 20 people died, $13 billion in property damage, why wasn't law enforcement empowered to put down these riots to reim bows law and orderer on american cities? that is what president trump is talking about here. when you have local officials, when you have local rioters burning down american cities and folks like tim walz encouraging rioters to go after local police stations you need to have a federal response that reimposes law and order in this country. that's how i understand his
6:12 am
comments. we have got some very important enemies to focus on overseas but if people are burning down our cities and of course we have to have a police response to that very basic violation of our right of public security. >> bill: he mentioned adam schiff and nancy pelosi over the weekend by name. >> bill, look, you have adam schiff and nancy pelosi who have been really part of weaponizing the department of justice against our country. i think what donald trump is saying is look, we're the strongest country in the world. we have the best people in the world but we have some broken leadership. we have people like nancy pelosi getting rich off insider stock trades even as her own country has gotten poorer. who is obsessed, nancy pelosi is obsessed with donald trump, not with reimposing policies that will deliver peace and prosperity for the american people. we do have people on the left, not most people to be clear. but some people on the left who are encouraging violent responses to what we believe is going to be a donald trump
6:13 am
victory in a couple of weeks. that's not okay. i think it is totally reasonable for the president to point out that yes, we have the strongest country in the world but we have some broken leaders in washington. why we're running this race. >> dana: kamala harris has been rolling out new policies as we get towards the end of the campaign and one of them is about elder care. a lot of people are dealing with this trying to figure out how to take care of parents and going through all the regulations and not enough people to take care of them. her take on what she wants to do. >> so my plan is to recognize this is about dignity and say that shouldn't have to happen to help to take care of an elder. we'll have medicare cover it and i think about this issue also in the context of people who are in the sandwich generation and that's what we call people taking care of young kids and their parents. >> dana: bad idea? how would we pay for it? >> well, first of all, dana, the most important point here why
6:14 am
isn't kamala harris doing this now if it is such a good idea? she is the sitting vice president. the democrats control the senate. the entire campaign of kamala harris has been to throw out ideas that sound good on paper but then you ask yourself why isn't she actually doing this with the power the american people have given her, the responsibility they've given her and real is it is all slogans meant to appeal to people but no actual governing agenda or policy detail behind it. that's the theme of kamala harris's entire campaign. of course we want to make it easier for elderly americans to get the care they need. there are a lot of bureaucratic loopholes and barriers to actually making it easier for young american families to take care of their elderly friends and family. we of course want to deal with that. but you can't say as a sitting vice president you've got a great plan if it's such a great plan she should be doing it now. >> bill: appreciate your time. hope to talk to you again before the big day.
6:15 am
a quick answer. you guys are looking at internal numbers all the time. how do you feel where you stand right now? are you winning, losing or a dead flat tie? >> bill, i don't like the polls when we're winning or losing. our message to the american people is very simple. get out and vote. i feel very good where we are. the internal numbers are great but i choose to disbelieve them and believe instead in the american people's grit and hard work. get out there and vote. get your friends and family to the polls. we have to swamp the vote in this country and get a margin that is so big that we will call it early on tuesday night but the only way that will happen is if people get out there and make their voices heard. >> bill: we'll talk down the road. jd vance thank you. >> thank you both. good morning. >> revenge against their boss, it could be anger over u.s. foreign policy. anything that you could possibly imagine. >> bill: this is a major

october 1st. now the u.s. is investigating the leak that may reveal some of the elements of israel's plan. the leaked document describes the types of aircraft and weapons that israeli military is possibly preparing to use in a strike against iran. the report might contain images generated in part by american intelligence. the documents were published by an online group called the middle east spectator. people call it pro-iran it describes itself as independent. in a statement it claims it got the leaked documents from a telegram channel online writing we have no connection to the original source which we assume to be a whistleblower within the u.s. department of defense. the justice department and speaker of the house say the leaks raise a concern of more sensitive information being released. iran is giving a chilling warning writing any country aware of the timing and manner of the attack on iran or participating in any aggression

the war in lebanon. i don't know how that will go or how you see it giving the killing of sinwar in gaza, how would you game out the rest of this war as you see it right now? >> we talked last week on this show about israel reaching out with some kind of a deal on lebanon. what is happening here you separate the two of them. dealing with hamas in gaza, the objective has been destroy the military effectiveness of hamas and destroy the political entity of governing body of it. make a deal temporary cease-fire to get the hostages out. that has been the objectives. they are still ongoing. in lebanon this is a nation state. and a country with a significant population. israel does not have an objective here to destroy the military organization of hezbollah. what they want to do is seriously degrade it. you can see them doing that.
6:27 am
eliminating leaders, now destroying their banking system which has been a front for their financing their operation. significant reduction of rockets and missiles particularly long range ones that can reach all over israel and eliminate the military infrastructure by a limited ground invasion in southern lebanon. what they are heading towards and what they want is to put enough pressure on hezbollah inside of lebanon to get a deal. what that deal is all about is that fact that there will be no hezbollah in southern lebanon so the citizens of northern israel can return. the israelis would like to participate in enforcement of that. it would have to be negotiated out. whether that can be done or not. the u.n. enforcement since 2006 and i had failed miserably. they are on the ground trying to keep hezbollah out of southern lebanon and they are in residents despite the u.n. peacekeeping force that's there.
