very seriously. and if there is a instance where proper procedures have not been followed, we will investigate that. >> matthew: here in israel the military announced it killed a senior hezbollah leader. hashim safieddine supposed to take over for hassan nasrallah in september. brian? >> brian: thank you so much, matt. a lot of moving parts there appreciate it. 21 minutes before the top of the hour. let's move this conversation further with rebecca line critic of the institute senior fellow. how damaging was this leak and are you convinced it was a leak not a hack? we don't know the nature of the leak or the hack we do know this administration had a systemic leaking problem. any time u.s. officials have conversations with the israelis we find it reported in the american media without naming the source in the biden-harris

administration. so the biggest problem for me, brian, and the biggest fallout from this is that it further damages the united states' reputation as a reliable ally and partner, especially with allies like israel who are in a time of need about to carry out a significant counter strike against the iran regime and so there should be no leaks and the american people we know consistent basis conversation with prime minister and he president higher officials end up in the "the washington post" the next day the prrnlt decided to take things into his own hands, thank goodness now we understand the secretary of state is going to saudi arabia. got to get to some type of surrender in with hamas. hezbollah, we don't know who is leading that organization because israel has done such damage to their higher ups
3:42 am
injuring thousands while trying to take them down. why go to saudi arabia? what could the saudis do? >> obviously the saudis are really important if you zoom out initially the act 7th attack and support for proxies around the region was happening right as there was going to be further normalization with the saudis and the israelis this is part of the geopolitical context that the saudis were moving forward having greater relations with the israelis. get back to that secretary blinken figure out what the saudis would tolerate response against iran. how the saudis are feeling about the current and trying to get a better understanding. unfortunately, brian, the saudis have low trust that whatever they say will stay between them. american election so close in the next couple of weeks and the trump team has has been much
3:43 am
more supportive of the israelis and the israelis' ability to take out the iranian nuclear program. the saudis might be looking at that and say look it might be a better deal for us to wait and see how this election goes. >> brian: exactly. remember the saudis were trying to tell us how bad the suite rebels. were there who is the pariah nation. they are less than perfect. iranian is the bigger problem. i thought it was pretty obvious but not to this administration. tom cotton on the investigation said i think what a lot of us are thinking seems to be you too. the biden-harris administration can't be trusted to investigate these leaks on their own. today i demand regular updates on the investigation a long investigation, never finding out who it is leaves us susceptible. there is a alaska motivation getting to the bottom of this. am i right? >> you are right. and again, you have to have trust congress and the american people that we can hold
3:44 am
ourselves accountable. it's not just enough to figure out if this was intentional leak or not. figure out where the problem was in a way that increases trust with the american people. and also publicly in a way allies can trust us. really important senator tom cotton is right. congress has to put pressure on the administration to get to the bottom of this. >> brian: you can hear the frustration in his tweet. maybe we will get a development. straight ahead on this show kamala harris is in pennsylvania after she was trooled over repeated fracking flip-flops. i was very careful in saying that could it cost her key votes in the keystone state?
