>> harris: vice president kamala harris in a tough spot at a town hall when she tried to answer questions about the border crisis, which exploded on her watch. i'm harris faulkner and you are in "the faulkner focus." anderson cooper was pressing kamala harris about the border. >> three weeks before the first presidential debate with joe biden, you had executive actions that shut down people crossing over. why didn't your administration do that in 2022 and 2023? >> first of all, you are right. as of today we have cut the flow of immigration by over half. in fact, the numbers i saw most recently illegal immigration is -- let me >> why not do it in 2022 and 2023? >> because we were working with congress and hoping we could have a long term fix to the problem. >> you couldn't have done both at the same time? >> i think we did the right thing. >> you criticized the wall more than 50 times.
8:02 am
you called it stupid, useless and is a border wall stupid? >> let's talk about donald trump and that border wall. so remember donald trump said mexico would pay for it? come on, they didn't. >> you are agreeing to a bill to earmark $650 million. you don't think it's stupid anymore? >> what he did and how he did it did not make much sense. he didn't do much of anything. >> you do want to build some wall? >> i want to strengthen our border. >> harris: sounded like she didn't know what was in the bill. a new poll shows well, which candidate do they actually trust to handle the border better? more than half of voters in this poll saying former president donald trump would be better on immigration. this as all the while a report says that there is a massive group of another one of those caravans.
8:03 am
look at your screen. 150,000 of these people are being held in mexico until after the election day. so that's a blessing. at least they can hold them for a little bit. that feels awfully political. so if kamala harris wins they don't come in. if donald trump wins they let them in after election day? how is it going to work? some of those people say that they are afraid a trump victory would keep them out of the united states. well, if they're coming in illegally they're not wrong. senator rick scott called out the biden administration's inaction to strengthen, actually strengthen our nation's border. >> they don't care. the terrorists are coming across our border, drugs are coming across our border, criminals are coming across the border and they don't support the police. so how violent do they want this country to be? she takes no responsibility for anything in her job. >> harris: how violent?

the "new york post" editorial board also criticizing the white house with this. harris biden's last minute migrant moves are an attempt to hide their border mess. national correspondent griff jenkins. griff. >> harris, border officials are concerned that some of those migrants in mexico could be part of the violent venezuelan gang tren de aragua or tda as they are known and they are taking a foothold across the country. dhs says they've identified more than 600 migrants with possible ties to the gang. some could be relatives or victims but more than 100, harris, have been deemed subjects of interest and referred to the f.b.i.'s watch list for trans national criminal organizations. tda is suspected in crimes in 15 states, arizona, texas, chicago, new york, georgia, and florida. just on monday, the man accused of sex trafficking a 15-year-old old girl in palm beach county is investigated for tda ties. the gang is linked to the

murders of justin nothing nothing and laken and lapd cops. >> they've let them come in. barely vetted them. now they're popping up all over our nation and they cannot, even if they tried to do it now can't send them back to venezuela because venezuela says we won't accept them. >> the gang is in an infancy stage. as part of our work to counter trick da we are tracking down on gang members rescreening individuals encountered as well as the vetting at the border. this comes as a house jude committee report today released claims the biden-harris administration used the immigration court backlog as an excuse to allow nearly 1 million illegal migrants to stay in the u.s. calling it a quiet amnesty. the report cites briefings to the committee revealing more than 700,000 immigration cases
8:06 am
that were dismissed, terminated or closed and allowed those aliens to stay in the country indefinitely without facing immigration consequences. additionally say dhs failed to finesse documentation in 2,000 other cases and another new report this one from a conservative organization that alleges that dhs official has been promoting illegal immigration on social media platforms like youtube and tiktok. fox news hasn't been able to confirm the official's employment. >> harris: griff jenkins, that's astonishing. they say tda is in an infancy stage and they are terrorizeing. what happens when they reach out? >> it's a great question because let's put in this perspective. four years ago no one had heard of tren de aragua or tda gang members. now as we showed you, more than 15 states and what the dhs official told me is that they aren't capable of sophisticated organization but one thing is
8:07 am
for sure, they are a growing threat and border officials are prioritizing targeting them. >> harris: thank you for your reporting, griff. for getting us started. kat cammack, republican of florida, member of several committees, congresswoman, i don't know if you could hear that. i am really curious how much we're underestimating these people with the numbers growing by the day of them coming in. this is with the numbers tamped down. they have been flying people in. have the tda been on any of those flights? how do we vet the government? it sounds like we need to. >> you are 100% right. i know that as we dig into this, part of the reason why we don't know this information is because dhs has been unwilling to come forward and be transparent with congress. so we know certainly tda will have members that have been flown into the united states at

taxpayers expense. a trend, for the nine times i have been at the southwest border i can tell you talking with agents and with people at the border myself, these individuals are paying the cartels to come here and the ones that subsidize the efforts of the drug and sex trafficking and what we're seeing is historically the cartels would subcontract with american gangs to conduct the drug trade in america. now we're seeing an overwhelming amount of people coming across the border to the point where why even bother subcontracting when you can do the business yourself? cut out the middleman. that speaks volumes about how much of a cash cow the biden-harris illegal open border really is to the cartels and to the gangs. this is insane. >> harris: it sounds like a shift, though, in their strategy. it is almost like a syndicate. i have said this before so you come in, pressure those who you want to now. you don't go through the
8:09 am
american gangs. they are shifting their strategy and the dhs is saying they are still in infancy stage. what will we wait, for them to declare war on our soil? >> clearly why wouldn't they when there are no consequences for their actions? that's why they are operating in a lot of states that have no cash bail. they are going to places that they know they won't be harassed by law enforcement where they are weak on crime, soft on crime. we've seen the infamous photos of these gangsters flipping the bird to the cameras and law enforcement knowing full well they will get a slap on the wrist and on the streets the next day. there are no tough laws in place that are being enforced right now which is why these gangs and cartels are operating with impunity. >> harris: just real quickly, what needs to be done right now? when you think okay, this is the urgent thing we can do. >> you know, i think we need to one, enforce the laws on the books. two, we actually have to get rid
8:10 am
of the soros policies in place and there have to be consequences. we need the deportations and need to get these people out of the country that should have never been here in the first place. there is a long list of things we have to do. the catch and release policy is literally killing americans as we know. >> harris: again, that's something you could take care of the current president with his pen. but he has had 3 1/2 years to do it and he put kamala harris in charge as the v.p. and has had 3 1/2 years to do it. they aren't doing it. congresswoman, thank you very much. >> appreciate it, harris. >> harris: white house press secretary karine jean-pierre again forced to clean up one of joe biden's comments. this one is on locking up former president trump. critics are not buying the explanation that karine jean-pierre gave and some are saying that joe biden is hurting kamala harris's campaign more than he is helping.

prices without any consequence or accountability. >> how does it help someone like eric? >> i won't apologize for the fact we need to deal with accountability when these not all, in fact most don't, but when companies are taking advantage of the desperation and the need of the american people. >> harris: the "wall street journal" with this headline. inflation has cooled by americans are seething over prices. they aren't just angry, they are suffering. then they go on to write both campaigns understand the need to appeal to voters' continued sense of anger over prices. trump has said he would push to end taxes on social security benefits and overtime pay and tips. and more. punch at the cost of energy and make us energy independent once again and get that off your bill. kamala harris has proposed $25,000 in down payment assistance for many first time

home buyers and would investigate and punish grocery and food companies that engage in price gouging. okay, let's dig in here. david asman, fox business anchor with me now. so what did you -- what did you make of her answer there? this is the number one issue with voters. >> first thing i gauge from it, hard to get inside someone's head. she doesn't have a clear idea of what she would do to deal with the high prices. let's face it. economy is number one issue, inflation within that is the number one concern. people still don't feel like they are out from underwater. that their wages haven't been rising as high as inflation has. they are still suffering to trying desperately to breathe in this economy. i don't think she understands some of the proposals she has laid out as an answer. >> harris: she didn't know how much money there was in the -- to build a wall in the border

bill that she says she wants. she said she didn't want a wall. >> what bothers me the most she keeps using this word opportunity. what she is describing is not opportunity. she is describing when she talks about a new agency to stop price gouging, that's government control. price controls are government control. there is no opportunity in government control when people are told what to do. and we also know it doesn't work. it didn't work with richard nixon tried it and when the soviet union tried it or fidel ca castro. price controls always cause shortages. >> harris: jimmy carter, too. >> it just one thing that all economists would agree on. if you want to have shortages, then you have price controls. it doesn't work. the other thing she keeps talking about are government hand-outs. her message to black americans and particularly focusing on the men in the black community that
8:22 am
she came out with that list of five things. most of them involved hand-outs. and i think we have a sound but lawrence jones did this wonderful barber shop interview in atlanta. >> harris: let's watch. >> all she has talked about is what she will give people. she will give people all this stuff. we'll give you $25,000 tax credit to buy a house. it don't matter if you give these people $25,000. they won't buy a house. they won't do it. everybody wants something for free. that's what the democrats think. if we give you something, you will vote for us. we don't need a hand-out. i need an opportunity. >> i love that line. i don't need a hand-out. i need an opportunity. focusing on her misuse of the word opportunity. he gets it. she doesn't. >> harris: but it is her job to get it if she wants to be president. >> she is coming out with a new definition for things that don't make -- she is bringing up these old tried and failed policies and suggesting that's going to

be the answer. you have trump on the other side focusing on incentives. >> harris: he also understands the power of giving someone the freedom to chase their own dreams. it is not $25,000 in cash by the way. you can't do something else with it. it is a bit of a bait and switch with her language, too. the vice president also admitted that this is happening under her administration. >> i'm speaking with people of every background and every area of the country of every age and, you know, the idea of the american dream was something that previous generations could count on. not as much anymore. >> harris: the things which traditionally define our american dream, owning a home, a car, having two children at least and sending them to a four-year college, having pets, taking an annual vacation and the ability to retire comfortably. a recent analysis found that is simply unattainable right now for many people because of all of the costs, $4.4 million over

the course of a lifetime, $4.4 million over the course of a lifetime. more than many americans will ever earn. boy, i tell you, when it was at 9% too bad we didn't get a fireside chat from joe biden to tell us how bad it was going to be and now she, who was there for every decision, can't even explain how to get us out of this. >> imagine a fireside chat with kamala harris. it was bad enough when biden tried to do some of that. you used a phrase and it is one that milton friedman used, a lot free market economists used about what the american dream is. free to choose is a book total. the freedom to choose is what the american dream is. the freedom to choose a business of your own, the freedom to choose a house if you want to go in that direction or not.
8:25 am
the freedom and we really saw it emphasized during the pandemic when suddenly americans lost their freedom to choose so much. the freedom to send their kids to school. we also see it with the ev mandates and we see it they don't allow us to use the kind of oven we want if it has natural gas. >> harris: the pandering that kamala harris and recruited to do it former president barack obama. when it comes to that, as black culture and societies and communities were promised during the civil rights marches by dr. king, that freedom to choose is more than just part of the american dream. it is everything. that is the measurement of progress. so if you take that away from people who have anticipated that that really would be truly his dream realized for all of us, not just those of us who are black but everybody, i don't think she gets who she is talking to when she talks to those men. >> certainly doesn't understand

8:36 am
david, do you think that she is more like joe biden or less like joe biden? does she really articulate well enough why she would choose to pull away from him? >> i think it's a difficult situation. >> harris: what about joe biden -- he became president. >> the first thing life experiences. she talked about that but the energy on this new path forward. times have changed in the past 3 1/2 years. she hasn't been the president. now she will have an opportunity. >> harris: you don't think she was in the room on those very important decisions and part of them. >> i think she contributed to it like vice presidents do and we've talked about it before, a very important vice president in terms of history being those tiebreaking votes. but yes, the vice president is limited. it is much of a cheerleader and going out and supporting the president. as you would expect to do. i think she is charting that new path forward saying i endorse a lot of the successes of the biden-harris administration but

have the energy and dynamic. if you would hire someone you would look at references. donald trump has half of his cabinet that don't support him. >> harris: we make up the largest voting block of registered and active voters, women. that's one. the next large number are those 41 million gen zers. of those the numbers registered are not as many. i did a round table yesterday to try to figure out what gets a young person to vote. a gen z conservative influencers why she thinks in particular the vice president is not winning at this point. >> i think what's really missing from the kamala harris campaign in terms of messaging to young people is an understanding of the america that we live in today. every social issue under the sun as well. i'm a young woman being constantly pandered to about the only thing i'm allowed to care about according to kamala harris
8:38 am
is a woman's supposed constitutional right to abortion. yet kamala harris is failing to recognize for voters under 45, only 9% support the all-access abortion agenda. so there is a clear disconnect with where the culture of america is today. not just economic issues. i think we're looking for someone who can truly bring a new generation of leadership to washington. new ideas, fresh perspective and that's not happening with a kamala harris regime. >> harris: first of all, our future is in good hands. everybody on that panel. we had different politics represented there, these young people are shining. they really shine. >> i've seen that firsthand with people i worked with gen zers. they all have opinions. you see a huge demographic shift of young women particularly that are going towards kamala harris and i think that abortion issue is key. there are many other issues but
8:39 am
the fact that right now we can point to a third of american women living under abortion ban states speaks to young women, young men to everyone. i think that penetrates through. when you look at the polling, it shows that abortion is the leading issue in terms of what separates these two candidates. everything else is almost tied. economy and immigration it is evenly split. >> harris: my question is this. in those states, though, the voters will get a say. we don't know how the bans will shake out or do we, matt? >> this election in large part is determined by the gender gap. democrats haven't talked to men. tim walz tweeted out this morning. men, thank the women in your life. that's not a message to men. they are hemorrhaging men. he is go -- economic issues and he is running ads in certain states i saw them watching football against transgender sex changes for illegal immigrants

in prison. you see who they are exactly targeting. men, latino men and african-american men and i'm telling you, if trump wins this election it will be in large part to those groups. democrats don't have a message for them. >> harris: i shared this with david asman a few minutes ago. you don't pander to the black community at this point. we're generationally now going forward and progressing and have expectations. i only speak for one person and you put it very correctly. i interview a lot of voters, though. what i do know is when you send out a former president to lecture a group of people based on their skin color and hair texture, you better have something other than shaming them. >> i think president obama did that pretty eloquently in terms of the speeches he has done on the ground talking about the drastic difference between a kamala harris administration, donald trump administration. >> harris: he said vote for her, black men, because she is a black woman. >> it was a huge mistake.
8:41 am
he really missed the mark on that. if she loses the rate, it is will be because she is a bad candidate who ran a bad campaign. >> it's trying to penetrate. it's difficult for younger voters. they hear all the negative both sands and tuning it out. how do you break through? what is telling is you have someone like president barack obama going and stumping for his candidate where donald trump side you don't see george w. bush or michael pence or leading republicans doing that. former chief of staff john kelly coming out with accusations is very damning to his campaign. >> harris: she used the back drop of the naval observatory to bring up things that were years old. i want to get your last quick thought. >> she needs surrogates. she is doing no events.

first heard the president say it. >> was it a mistake or is he just saying the quiet part out loud? he also said that donald trump should be put in a bull's-eye and he was. we've seen democrats now on four separate occasions try to put donald trump in jail. they've tried to bankrupt him. he has faced two assassination attempts as well. we have also seen the attorney general of new york, she ran on getting donald trump. we had joe biden's top prosecutor or doj official left the department of justice to go with the manhattan d.a. to try to get donald trump. was it is a mistake or saying the quiet part out loud? >> harris: all of my wires came out of my ears. i needed someone to rescue me. you thought i was on fire. i don't know if i looked like a pro right then. critics are calling out

democrats and liberal media for repeating this claim about former president trump. >> donald trump is an extension all threat to our democracy. >> don't give them the power. they are a threat to democracy and take away our rights, yes. >> president biden has been clear-eyed about the threat that the former president represents to our democracy. >> he is a genuine threat to our democracy. that's not hyperbole, that's the god's truth. >> harris: really? with two assassination attempts on his life. jonathan turley's new op-ed is arguing despite the media, voters aren't buying trump is a threat to democracy. he said this. >> this is panic politics with a halloween flair that something wicked this way comes. the problem here is that the american people have an innate sense when they are being played for chumps. it is not that the decision is

easy but they don't buy it. after this long two centuries of successful democracy it will all come to an end unless harris is elected president. >> harris: national poll released this week shows that slightly more registered voters in battleground states trust trump over harris to handle threats to democracy in the united states. 43% to 40%. they undercut the vice president's argument that trump is a threat and she will protect democracy. lisa. >> the challenge for democrats is americans have had a side-by-side comparison of what things would look like under kamala harris that we've seen tlout the biden-harris administration and what it looked like under donald trump. the arguments fall flat. we saw the department of justice go after a grandmother who didn't participate in violence and sentence her to jail or go after a grandmother for praying

outside an abortion clinic or go after a man posting peoples and tried to put him in jail. allow the invasion of the southern border or the weaponization of the f.b.i. against donald trump. the list goes on and on. these argument now just fall flat with the american people because they've seen the side-by-side comparison and they know the truth. >> harris: wow, some really deep examples of that especially when you bring up virginia. what did they think would happen by letting illegals into this country? it is such a no-brainer that you might have to look out for that sort of thing with non-citizens trying to vote. former president trump courted the christian vote yesterday in georgia imploring them to cast a ballot. >> for whatever reason, christians are not tremendous voters in terms of percentage. if they were we would never lose an election. i think they are -- i think we've energized a lot of people this time because they've seen

how bad it is. this last four years has been a horror show, >> harris: you know we brought this issue in focus on this program by having an evangelical round table a few days ago. new research found more than 100 million christian and evangelical voters are unlikely to vote this election cycle and here is a little bit of the evangelical leaders i talked with. >> it is important that we vote. the leaders we elect determine the policies we follow and the policies we follow determine the moral and spiritual direction of our entire country. >> when we think about our faith, this is an election where we really can't say our faith is on the ballot and we have to do everything we can to make sure that our values and morality that we believe in are at the center of everything we do. >> we cannot be passive here. this is a fight for our children, the next generation and their children. for us to have religious freedom in america we have to vote

accordingly. >> harris: it is interesting that the push on the left would be for abortion at this point if you are trying to attract christian and evangelicals. >> also not articulating any -- what are the limitations with that, right? failed to articulate any limitations with abortion rick either. she tried to make the comments at the cnn panel. at rally when someone yelled jesus is lord, she said you are at the wrong rally. if that's not a biggest tell for american voters, i don't know what's going to wake you up. >> harris: thank you for joining me and getting me through the she can't hear and can't speak moment. >> yet you are still smoother than everyone else. >> harris: i survived it. thank you. all right.
