it's really exciting to see such enthusiasm from citizens, democrats, republicans, independents and everywhere in the state. i'm really grateful the more people who participate the more healthier our democracy will be. eric: can the system take these numbers? some have raised concerns about the integrity and credibility of the system. how can you reassure them? west we believe transparency is important. her people are counting and evaluating the identity of people sending an absentee ballot. you can observe that process. you can observe the polling place. you can observe the accounting process. we want people to know they can watch and observe it. of course we do know a people to be disruptive but information is our friend. michigan.gov/election facts or people can read through very detailed ways everything we do to ensure only u.s. citizens or voting. note dead voters are removing dead voters on the rolls and a

criminal penalties for folks who broke the law there. that is what we do but we enforce the law but ensure everyone knows the rules with clear guardrails in place to make sure everyone can only vote once. eric: in terms of guardrails we hear of non- citizens potentially voting, is that possible? >> you know. would pay was somewhatregistrabt usually when they get their drivers license. you have to show documentation of citizenship at that point whether you are citizen or not that's marked in the file so even if someone were to attempt to register to vote after that, in that the license or id foune not a citizen and not allowed to vote. several were clerks can look into allegations of challenges this person is not a citizen. we want to be able to identify that in clerks look into that. number of checks and balances. all those are detailed michigan.gov/election facts for anyone to read. eric: finally, when you think youyou'll get the vote? how soon do you think you will

get the full tally? what you expect on election night a couple days after? >> hopefully no later than wednesday but maybe sooner. we know our clerks are working hard but right now they're counting the ballots come to the mail we are seeing people return those ballots earlier than usual. all that points to us being able to get the result as quickly as possible. we will always prioritize security and accuracy of course over efficiency. will keep people updated after the polls close is when they can expect to hear those unofficial returns come through. eric: so finally, the votes of the absentee ballots being counted now. like in pennsylvania at their sometimes a long delay because their law is different. in some cases they do not start until the day of the election. we are pretty confident you get results fairly quickly? >> in 2020 we had our results at the highest turnout election in history. our unofficial results were done mid-day wednesday, the day after the election.
