going to georgia to talk with faith leaders and later hold a rally in atlanta. you know we were just there with "the faulkner focus" all women town hall. i witnessed the first day of early voting and it continues now to set records in that very, very tight race for both trump and vice president kamala harris. i'm harris faulkner and you are in "the faulkner focus." last night quite the spectacle. it was eye-popping for the former president in deep blue new york city. [cheers and applause] [crowd chanting usa, usa] >> harris: that's iconic madison square garden packed to capacity. more than 19,000 people cheering on trump and a host of high-profile guests. his supporters lined up for hours, some camping out overnight to try to secure a seat inside.

thousands ended up watching from outside as well. new york may not be in play for the former president but the powerful imagery could affect voters around the nation and in key battleground states. the "new york post" cover says maga square garden, new york city shows trump some heart emoji. trump's message not limited to that event. millions saw his television ads watching nfl football games and a little bit of one of those ads during the philadelphia eagles game. >> we'll make america great again, greater than ever before. i will fight for you with every breath and i will never let you down. >> harris: the full ad is two minutes long. the placement targeting voters in the key swing state of pennsylvania. this one also aired during the

you have seen that theme throughout the campaign where he has visited the harlem bodega, the south bronx rally and union workers and delivering that closing argument at madison square garden again having that the iconic moment in the mecca of where media is. obviously in the mid-term cycle we were able to expand our seats in the house through new york. we know we have critical seats to hold. the reality is president trump has both this broad coalition, even in the deepest of blue areas. >> harris: i want to broaden that out a little bit. something really caught my eye and ear last week. it is republicans in some areas are seeing their democrat challengers tout almost like a trump-like platform. they are not adopting his platform but it is like they know him in certain ways and i don't know, is that going to work for them? would it work in new york? >> you're seeing that happen in

ads in wisconsin and michigan and pennsylvania where senate candidates are running with president trump and shows how deeply unpopular kamala harris is and the harris biden administration. if you look at their closing argument, they are focused on donald trump. if you look at president trump's closing argument he is focused on the american people. >> harris: when we were in georgia, that was the first time that i had really seen him with an all-women cast like that. there were a lot of women on his staff like yourself. i think you all are used to it. whenever i see you with him i think there are a lot of women here. why such a gender gap for donald trump? >> actually push back on that gender gap. in 2020 president trump lost women by 15 points. had us down with women by ten points the latest poll. female or hispanic or black voters every type of voter president trump is focused on issues that matter most to american. economy, inflation and securing the southern border.

>> harris: do you think you closed some of that? and this question. his 20-point gap in the latest average of polls. kamala harris leading with women by 20 points. trump is leading with men by 16 points. this is almost a split. >> that's exactly right. president trump is leading with male voters and again it goes back to those core issues. when you listen to kamala harris talk she really doesn't have a message other than, you know, i grew up in a middle class family and i really care about a lawn and i'm not president trump. president trump can get to the substance of the issues. point you to the joe rogan podcast where he sat down for three hours talked about every issue from start to finish and you really got to know who president donald trump is. >> harris: had you any idea at that point that first of all it would go long? there have been a lot of questions how do you sit with anybody for three hours? >> president donald trump can. i don't think it's anything most

politicians could dream of doing. certainly not joe biden or kamala harris. but president trump is so well versed on policy issues across the political spectrum that it is so natural for him and i really think when we look back at this election president trump has been groundbreaking in circumventing mainstream media and doing the podcasts across the board. to do the long form interviews and let voters know exactly who he is. >> harris: mainstream media has been so negative for him. in either case whether kamala harris or donald trump it is a lot of time and eyes and ears viewing something. we'll have to see. she was with the obamas this past weekend and beyonce and we'll see. the voters will tell us what they were most moved by. i tell you what, there have been so many that voted already maybe it won't matter so much down the stretch.

conversation i think we can all dial down the temperature and i've heard people say that the former president should not be able to have a rally in madison square garden. i strongly disagree. this is america. >> harris: michael goodwin echoed that in his column titled kamala harris needs to stop the hitler rhetoric with donald trump before we see more violence. when it comes to the pure politics of this strategy "the new york times" is reporting, quote, the leading super pac supporting the vice president is raising concerns that focusing too narrowly on trump's character and warning that he is a fascist is a mistake in the closing stretch of the campaign. the group said the focus on character and the fascist label were less persuasive than other messages. i don't know if you have a cohesive message and one filled with answers on how to fix the economy, jason, that might work.

>> aren't the democrats the party of joy? it is so offensive to compare donald trump to adolph hitler who murdered millions of people. instead of teaching the world the holocaust was real, they are trying to equate this guy, who has for four years the president who didn't bring us into war. we were signing peace deals in the middle east and you want to say he is like hitler? are you kidding? it's the same party that also called mitt romney hitler and called dick cheney hitler and then they accepted dick cheney's endorsement like hey it was a feather in their cap. they are so -- at the heart of this, harris, kamala harris has got nothing. she has no issue to run on. it is the only thing she can do is demonize the other opponent. >> harris: this idea of hating trump worked potentially in 2020.

and hillary clinton tried to just hate all his voters with the deplorables line. why is the the party of so-called joy going back to hate? do they see something that has worked with that strategy? >> negative campaigning everybody says they don't like it but it always works. that's why you see it. >> harris: this is more than negative campaigning. he has had attempts to kill him this summer. >> attacking somebody's policy, fair game. attacking somebody's character and comparing him to somebody who is going to kill americans, that is so fundamentally wrong. they've tried it. they try it again and keep trying it. every time they do it they lose more ground. >> harris: vice president kamala harris is freezing out president biden in the closing days of her campaign. this feels like al gore and bill clinton a little bit, right? didn't work out for al. i don't know him well enough to call him al. mr. gore.

the report says, president biden wants to campaign for vice president harris in the last days before the election. harris's campaign keeps responding we'll get back to you. three people familiar with the dynamic -- with that dynamic told axios. a reporter with the outlet said this. >> i don't think it's controversial to suggest that joe biden might not be the best asset for the harris campaign in every state. the other part here is there is tension between team harris and team biden. one of the last sort of arguments from the pro-biden faction within the democratic party was he is the the only person that can beat trump. implicit in that argument was the idea that harris couldn't. >> harris: another factor in the stiff arm could be the president's disapproval rating, 56% according to the average of polls. jason. why not deploy the current president, who will be president until inauguration day? >> kamala harris is trying to

say she is the future, that she will do things different. when asked the question what will you do different, she says nothing comes to mind. and so to compare the two, it just reminds america that four more years of joe biden's policies are detrimental to the united states of america. kamala harris has to be her own person. she has to make the closing argument but she can't. she has nothing. she is an empty suit. she doesn't have a message or a policy that resonates other than i will raise taxes. that is her only message. >> harris: it seems like such an easy question and every cycle would be different but negativity, the hate, the call for violence that sort of thing. lock him up. oh no i meant politically biden said last week. maybe that is why kamala doesn't want him on the campaign. the prices of food are so high. that's the bottom line.

>> you are making several stops in michigan today. tell us about your final pitch to michigan voters today? >> i'm heading back to michigan to talk with working people and families, with young people about the issues that they care most about. they want to make sure we will lower prices. they know the price of groceries is too high. i know it, too. i have a plan to deal with that, a number of things including with price gouging. they want homeownership and my plan giving people a $25,000 down payment assistance if they are a first-time home buyer matters to the people of michigan. they care about american manufacturing. i will talk about that again. my plan includes what we will do to continue to invest in american-based industries, american manufacturing and american workers. that is how we are going to remain strong and globally competitive and win the competition for the 21st century with china and anybody else.

>> one follow up to your remarks about president trump's rally. some people who watched that made comparisons between a rally that happened at madison square garden in 1939 with neo-nazis back then. do you see those comparisons and can you also expand what he said and what you said yesterday about puerto rico? >> donald trump -- this is not new about him. what he did last night is not a discovery. it is just more of the same and maybe more vivid than usual. donald trump spends full-time trying to have americans point their finger at each other, fans full of hate and division and people are exhausted with him and people who formerly have supported donald trump, have voted for him are supporting me, voting for me. people are literally ready to turn the page. they're tired of it. in terms of puerto rico, even when i was in the united states

senate knowing that puerto rico does not have a united states senator, i was intentional about doing what i could as a united states senator to make sure among my priorities it included paying attention to the needs of the people on that island including the aftermath of hurricane maria. i have announced also my plan that is about my opportunity economy at large but specific targets that will include a task force focused on the needs of puerto rico understanding it has very spoofs i can needs in terms of upgrading and repairing the electric can grid and what needs in terms of investment with private partnerships. i'm proud to have the support of others who were supporting me before that nonsense last night at madison square garden and are supporting me because they understand they want a president of the united states who is about uplifting the people and not berating. not calling america a garbage

what were you hearing from that? no doubt you heard my reaction to the last question, can you compare trump to hitler? >> she did come to fox news and offered to do a fox news debate and he backed out. i'm glad she answered questions. i think donald trump in the rally yesterday again puts out speakers that demean our fellow americans. you know, i served in the military. people in puerto rico are american citizens. the people who lived their per capita have more medal of honor recipients and served in the military than my home state and your home state. when you disparage them it is wrong. it is absolutely wrong. >> harris: i want to give everybody a chance to say what they are thinkful. helpful if you answer the question and i want to know about the closing arguments

comparing trump to hit lear. you have a reporter playing tee ball. like a softball question to tee off on it. if i'm wrong please tell me how this is different than just letting her talk about it? it felt like an entree to do that? >> the reason that's the case. it's kamala harris's only plan for america to convince the american people trump is a nazi. look at the rally and how diverse it was at madison square garden. the number of jewish americans that we had there. the only people that supported hitler was a nazi. if you tell me the jewish americans and african-american and native americans were there are nazis. kamala harris is hemorrhaging talking about day one. her day one was in 2021. the most powerful woman in the world right now and she has

well, these are not conservative publications or outlets. surprising as the "washington post" non-endorsement was i found the "l. a. times" non-endorsement even more shocking. that's kamala harris's hometown newspaper. the most respected newspaper in the state of california. that's very telling. i find these non-endorsements more telling than the polls at this point, harris. i will tell you why. because unlike what brian stelter was trying to set up, that perhaps these owners of these publications were afraid of a donald trump authoritarian presidency. i don't believe any of that. i believe these publications are unhitching their wagons from the kamala harris campaign. they made the mistake in 2016, most of media did, with going all in on hillary clinton, a 91% chance of winning and embarrassed when donald trump won in 2016 and they're trying to save themselves from going down that path again. they don't want to be mentioned
