throughout the morning get up and ask you questions about things in the news. first thing we are going to talk about is extraordinarily one of the richest men in the world, jeff bezos, who owns amazon and blue origin and "the washington post," you know, inexplicably on friday it was announced after decades of endorsing presidential decades to be winners in elections, they decided they were not going to have an endorsement. late last night, he dropped an op-ed in the pages of his own newspaper. the hard truth americans don't trust the news media. then he goes on to explain why he is not going to endorse anybody. >> ainsley: he says is he going to defend the decision that creates -- he doesn't want to create a perception of bias. we must be accurate and must be believed to be accurate. it's a bitter pill to swallow but we are failing on the second requirement. most people believe the media is biased. anyone who doesn't see this is paying scant attention to reality and those who fight

reality lose. reality is an undefeated champion. presidential endorsements do nothing to tip the scales of an election. no undecided voters in pennsylvania are going to say i'm going with newspaper a's endorsement. none. what presidential endorsements actually do is create a perception of bias. "the washington post" and the "new york times" win prizes. but, increasingly, we talk only to a certain elite, more and more we talk to ourselves. wow. >> lawrence: what he is calling for is a realignment in media. they have lost the trust of the american people from the russia collusion hoax to the hunter biden laptop story to now the latest thing which is joe biden's mention decline that they were so late to report on. i don't think papers should ever endorse. i think it's hard to report on daily life in america and hold politicians accountable and then endorse at the end. you put your thumb on the scale. >> brian: this is really exciting in way.

he is not the first major newspaper to not endorse. the "l.a. times" last week said i don't care what the editorial page wants, the owner says i don't want you endorsing anyone. >> ainsley: "u.s.a. today." >> brian: "u.s.a. today" followed up. after this there were mass resignations. the post lost 8 perms of their editorial staff. they decided i quit. well, good luck, try to get another job. you guys stand for something. i hope you have something in your passbook savings account. i don't think this any dinner. the newspaper made a decision also then the owner of the company. show a little respect. you are paid for your opinion. write the column. be want editor. when the owner writes your checks even though you are losing a ton of money, jeffer bezos buys "the washington post." knows is he going to lose a ton of money. makes a statement about something he owns they resign. i don't understand that mentality. "u.s.a. today," "the washington post," "l.a. times" all say they are not going to endorse. then you see this media research center report. this should not surprise anybody

here. 85% of the coverage of donald trump is negative. for harris 78% is positive. how could you positively be expected to be looked at as fair. no one is wrong 85% of the time and gets at least 70 million votes. >> steve: let's see your hands, who thinks it's a good idea that newspapers don't endorse? all right. that looks like almost everybody. who would like to see a newspaper endorse? i know our parent company, the "new york post" has endorsed donald trump to be president of the united states. most newspapers do. it's just extraordinary. and, this particular episode, started on friday, has cost "the washington post" 200,000 subscribers. they canceled their subscriptions including liz cheney i saw on the other channel. [laughter] here offense the thing the reason people are ske skeptical there was a story the announce wanted was made on friday.

on friday the guy who runs blue origins which is bezos' space company, he was meeting with donald trump in person next thing you know they announce there will be no endorsement. the newspaper had already written one for kamala harris. that's why a bunch of people quit because they were red to do it. it looked like something fishy. jeff bezos in op-ed said there was no quid pro quo, we are doing this so the people can make up their own minds. at the same time it looks to a lot of people like those two things happened exactly at the same time. he says it was a coincidence. >> ainsley: jeff bezos said he didn't know blue origin was meeting with donald trump. he said i sighed when i found out because i knew it would provide ammunition, which it has to those who would like to frame this as anything other than a principled decision. >> steve: right. >> ainsley: he didn't know about it. i would love to see a show of hands how many of y'all have ever voted for someone only because "the washington post" has endorsenned or another

[laughter] exactly it. doesn't really matter. i love amazon, that matters to me. i care more about that than the newspaper's decision who they are going to endorse. >> brian: minnesota star tribune, governor walz. they will not endorse. the tampa bay times says they will not endorse. >> ainsley: i think it's good for journalism. >> brian: big picture, if trump is able to win. he never had one day where he could have a honeymoon and treated fairly. you don't like the muslim ban or tax plan write something bad. say something bad. but every day to make up something negative to lead your newscast, your news channel with 95% negative news about somebody while they are trying to govern. maybe this could be somebody trying to lay the ground work treating him fairly should he be a winner. >> ainsley: weren't you all shocked when you found out it was "the washington post"? is this saying that maybe they are recognizing that 50% of

america thinks differently than they do. >> lawrence: the owner is but the journalists don't. we are going to stay out of it. >> brian: same thing with the teamsters. >> lawrence: same thing when they covered the rally oon sunday called it a nazi rally. all of these reporters are putting their hands on the scale. saying things that are just not into and goes to the former president's point when he is talking about the former president's mess putting them in danger. >> kamala is now doing something much worse than what she was dog about. the newest line from kamala and her campaign is that everyone who isn't voting for her is a nazi. now, the way they talk is so disgusting and just horrible the way they talk. and they don't mean it even. they just want to -- they think that they can -- they have called me everything from a mad genius looking to take over the world to a very, very stupid

and said look, they are trying to be much more positive if you look at the president's address. 75 minutes on sunday. much more positive. eric trump came touted to daily mail he would want nothing to do with the prosecuting hunter biden and hillary. he doesn't give a damn. he wants these games to end he wants a prosperous world and fruitful society. he wants to get back to a country that is functional that wins on everything we do. he wants to win on education, safety, economy and military. he doesn't want to go into senseless wars, he wants the respect of the entire world. that is the focus. and if everything goes according to the prompter, it's going to be much more positive leading to next tuesday. >> lawrence: we know he could have under the department of justice done with after hillary clinton and he decided it wasn't best for the country. so we know what he did the last four years. >> ainsley: i like that. i like moving forward. can we stop with that already. >> lawrence: he said he was open to pardoning hunter biden. >> brian: maybe kamala says if i win i'm going to make sure donald trump's cases go by the wayside. >> ainsley: wants to support a

the pundits can't understand why. we do have solid growth. we have got a low unemployment rate. and we have got the best companies in the world, dominating the most important industries. but voters still think that the economy is bad. why? >> ainsley: because we go to the grocery store. >> stuart: the answer is obvious. everything. absolutely everything costs more. rent, insurance, your mortgage, bread, anything you touch, any time you put your hand in your pocket and pay out money it costs more. >> brian: when you try to get credit. it's now harder to get? >> stuart: yes, it is. >> brian: don't know if you should sell your house put a dormer or deck on. >> stuart: they don't care that we got a growing economy. they care about the cost of living. people on low incomes. they don't care about the magnificent 7 technology stocks. they don't care about that. they care about making ends meet. inflation is the issue tale lingering inflation is the key issue in this election.

>> brian: i saw jamie dimon had a melt down on regulation. i'm just tired of this administration's regulation on business economy and banking. >> that's the other side of the coin if trump wins. it's not so of the tax cuts that he is going to impose. it's the regulations that he is going to cut. that makes enormous difference to the profitability and the freedom of the individual and the corporation. yes, it does. >> lawrence: we have another question from nick. >> as a small business owner, feeling a lot of uncertainty in the economy, given a trump victory, what do you think the timeline is it see restored confidence as cross the market? >> stuart: i think first of all, you have to figure out who controls congress. >> steve: right. >> stuart: if the democrats keep the senate and maybe take the house, that will stymie a lot of trump's polings. so you have got to wait until the dust settles, so to speak. to say find out what impact a trump presidency would have. if he can get his measures through congress, then i think you have got a very strong economy and a strong stock market. there is nothing like tax cuts

that will be the bad news here. now, trump says, look, i'm going to muscle the federal reserve to make sure interest rates are cut. there is a limit how far he can go with that i think in a strong economy, mortgage rates will probably start to go up. they are moving up already. >> steve: they are. >> stuart: right now you are getting close to 7% on a 30-year fixed rate loan because of the anticipation of a stronger economy. i'm sorry to say mortgage rates up, very bad news for housing and bad news for a lot of folks here. >> brian: right. you just brought down the whole room.
