palm beach, florida. what else the latest. >> good morning, guys, while most people were asleep last night president-elect trump announcing new border czar mandate to fix the southern border. trump posting to truth social about 11:30. i will read it for you, it says, quote: tom homan will be joining the trump administration in charge of our nations borders. the border czar. there is nobody better at policing, controlling our borders likewise tom homan will be in charge of all deportation of illegal aliens back to their country of origin. trump also announced his new ambassador to the united nations, new york congresswoman elise stefanik whose questioning on capitol hill led to the ouster of two ivy league presidents over anti-semitic protests on campuses. trump telling the "new york post," quote: i'm honored to. elise united nations tough strong and first american miers fighter. donald trump will be returning to the white house on wednesday to meet with president biden.

be his pursue because right now mayorkas is in charge of the tsa. >> rachel: are you telling me we will have a border czar that actually goes to the border and knows the border? i mean, this is incredible pieces of the wall, what's left. >> we were talking about the offer to elise stefanik, interesting pick, especially because the house is very thin margin. >> brian: right now they don't have the margin. >> rachel: don't have the margin. we expected there to be thin margin. the way that the law works is that kathy hochul the governor of new york will have three months to make an appointment. that's not from the day that donald trump takes office. that's just from the day she gets confirmed. you could be looking until april for that seat to be full. you know how close with the new administration you have got to ram everything through in the first 100 days. that's tricky. >> lawrence: people are going to learn when it comes to the administration there are not going to be many surprises. elise stefanik one of the first representatives that endorsed

his campaign. that's important because she was part of the leadership. when others said they were going to stay out of it. she made it very clear she was standing with the president. the tom homan thing, no surprise. the former president made it clear that he was going to be a part of the border enforcing that. if you got back in office. and i think some of the news that's coming out as well when it comes to mike pompeo and nikki haley, no surprises there. the president making it very clear that all the people that are in this administration will have this agenda. no loyalty to the generals but loyalty to how he feels like the foreign policy should be. >> ainsley: several things. when tom homan was announced, we weren't surprised because tom homan has always been so loyal to president trump and cares about keeping our country safe. is he a tough guy when we talked to him in the past when donald trump wins will you go back into the administration? he said without a doubt i will search that man valiantly. it's my pleasure to do that and keep this country safe.

i was talking to some republicans who said we are we e the border czar. we hope when the deportations happen they get out the criminals first. i'm sure there will be a pecking orderly of who will be deported ferris. but tom homan did say and in the interview with maria bartiromo that it would be in a humane manner. which i think is fair and that makes americans, i think overall very happy that it's done the right way and done in humane way. elise stefanik it's a busy job. you have to travel all around the world and not that you can't as a woman. i'm proud of her. that would be wonderful. but she is a mom. and razor thin margin in the house. so that might be something to consider. just publications saying it has been confirmed, guys. >> brian: that's really important. i'm not sure if she is going to have the cabinet position. remember, nikki haley had it. her replacement didn't. so she said -- nikki haley said

last night associated press declared republican congressman david schweikart the winner in arizona's first congressional district who missed flipping the district during the 2022 midterms following short by over 3,000 votes. in arizona's second congressional district. republican incumbent eli crane prevailed over his challenger jonathan nez. looking over to the senate like you guys were just talking about. dave mccormick's victory over bob casey in pennsylvania helped republicans expand their majority next year to 53 seats. senate majority leader chuck schumer is not inviting mccormick to freshman orientation yet. schumer says the race has not been decide. citing more than 100,000 ballots left to be counted in pennsylvania. now in a new opinion piece, the "wall street journal" editorial board says a lawyer, mark aelias is trying to steal a senate seat for casey. board suggesting might try challenge the results in the

keystone state. meantime the race for senate g.o.p. leader is heating up. president-elect trump is calling on those vying to replace mitch mcconnell to recess appointments to quickly get his officials in place. this tool refers to the president's ability to fill federal vacancies while the senate is in recess. both chambers of congress would need to pass a resolution. senators john thune, cornyn and rick scott are getting in line. speaking of scott. elon musk has backed scott in the race, including on top of that other senators have also backed scott like senators marco rubio and senator ron johnson but, of course, these ballot elections are done in secret and the leadership vote is scheduled for wednesday. lawrence, steve, ains -- or rather rachel and brian. >> rachel: thanks, maddy. >> brian: interesting to see who has the lead. >> lawrence: find it interesting the talking point is okay. so it is okay to challenge elections. it is okay to have lawyers get

involved. i just want one standard. i don't want people saying oh this is a peaceful transition of power after for years when people tried to challenge things through the legal process they were shunned and pushed back on. >> rachel: you are saying is an insurrectionist? >> steve: each side hired thousands of lawyers. they got to do something. and so that's obviously what -- that's obviously what they're doing. what is still tenuous though is the house of representatives. because republicans are still need to pick up four. to have the majority of 218. unfortunately, you know, this is not a fast process because there are still a little under two dozen seats to be determined, a bunch of them are out in california. and in the west and it is still going to take days if not weeks for the final result. unfortunately. >> brian: i think we have it at 215. they just need three.

together. they kind of grab from the same constituency. >> rachel: right. >> lawrence: absolutely thune has john cornyn's old job. he used to be the minority whip. and now thune has it because they have these limits when it comes to that. they are kind of grabbing from that same coalition. the question is do they eventually come together and then it is a more of an establishment type. >> brian: third vote too close to call? i think talked to someone in leadership they expect thune to win because it's secret ballot primarily. other thing to keep in mind, too. who can work murkowski and collins? because those are the ones that are going to be the sinema and manchin for the democrats. murkowski and collins. murkowski and trump -- >> rachel: should trump weigh in on this? a lot of people are wanting him to weigh in on it on the side of rick scott? >> brian: i trust his tactics. a reason why he is staying out of it. both not shy about calling trump. cornyn and thune are calling, too. >> steve: brian, to your point,

fully aligned with this past administration. that was number one. number two is the democrats didn't disconnect ourselves from these lunatics on the far left. americans are really sensible, centrist people. nobody wants to defund the police phlebotomy is on board with globalizing intifada. nobody cease people on campuses hamas head bands burning flags and say that's us. we say that's not us. by trying to bring everybody into this same tent, i think we got skunks in the tent. i think the democrats really need to look at ourselves and kamala harris is a nice person, but she went from being a progressive to being sean tryst. she picked tim walz who used to be a centrist and then he became a progressive. people didn't know what we stood for. i think if the democratic party want to earn the trust of the american we will we need to be more clear and have a process where people can understand where our candidates come from and who we are. >> brian: they told us inflation
