california faced similar fates to gascon. san francisco mayor london breed lost her re-election bid with the crime crisis on top of voter's minds and mayor and progressive d.a. in oakland were both recalled. the message, bill, from golden state voters seems to be pretty clear. progressive policies on crime just don't work for them. >> bill: thank you. jonathan hunt live in los angeles. we were noting two things. president-elect trump will get 38 1/2 of the vote in california. good run for a republican in that state. the other thing during the transition times, folks, very interesting. just to see all the movements. i think it will be interesting to see joe biden and kamala harris together. >> dana: it will happen today. >> bill: coming up shortly at arlington national cemetery. >> dana: talked to my dad this week. he knew all about the george

gascon race. he is in colorado. it's a national problem. we'll get you to this as well. president-elect trump is moving full speed ahead to fill his administration to hit the ground running on inauguration today. i'm dana perino. >> bill: good morning to you. hope everybody had a grand weekend. i'm bill hemmer. trump wants to fill his cabinet as quickly as possible but his candidates will need senate confirmation and with republicans in solid control trump wants a senate leader who is ready to speed up the process by allowing recess appointments. >> dana: right now there are three contenders seeking the motion, rick scott, john cornyn and john thune. they all agreed to the recess demand. scott is saying he is on board. >> whatever it takes, we have to get these does. schumer will slow everything down. i'm all on board. the country voted and they want a change. they want the trump agenda and want his nominees and policies.

we need to do everything we can to get it done. >> bill: chad pergram is front and center on capitol hill. why are recess appointments so important? >> good morning. recess appointments are not automatic. under the constitution both house and senate must vote for the same adjournment resolution that permits the senate to be out for more than three days. republicans are reviewing their leadership options. few are tipping their hands. >> we have to be able to work with president trump and his administration so that we can move ahead with the big policies that we have to put in place in order to address the deep concerns that americans have with government as it has been the last four years. >> president-elect trump is not endorsing a candidate but his ally elon musk is backing rick scott. musk called john thune the top

7:05 am
than another? >> well, there is an official-looking document floating around the internet that supposedly says here is how every republican senator would vote and here is who he or she would vote for for senate majority leader. in an unprecedented act of selflessness it has senator thune actually voting against himself and for senator cornyn. if you think this list is real or accurate, then you probably think that elvis is alive and running a small bait stand on lake erie. we haven't even had a meeting yet to hear the formal proposals

from the three nominees about how, if at all, they will run things differently than senator mcconnell. here is what i know. we will pick a leader who will advance president trump's agenda. we saw what everybody else saw on tuesday night. here -- despite what the so-called experts in washington say with their npr tote bags and organic broccoli, this was a simple message from the people. republicans aren't perfect but the other side is crazy. and president trump is going to do things differently and we'll pick a leader who will help him do that. >> bill: okay. >> dana: wanted to ask you about this because the associated press called the senate race in pennsylvania for dave mccormick, the republican. chuck schumer and bob casey aren't accepting that and schumer said with over 100,000
7:07 am
left to be counted in pennsylvania the race has not been decided as is custom we'll invite the winner which is votes are counted. dave mccormick won't be able to be there for a orientation. what kind of game is schumer playing here? >> when i first read the article, dana, my thought was clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right. senator schumer has a fatal attraction sometimes to nutty ideas. this is one of those times. what he is doing is petty. i know he is disappointed in the election, but he needs to go file a hurt feelings report and let's move on. dave mccormick should be able to attend orientation. >> bill: okay. another topic here. democrats are getting some interesting advice. one of which is have president biden step down and appoint

i think they will be very clear eyed the anchor and cause of what is taking place in the middle east is iran's desire to dominate and control the middle east region and to do that accomplish two things. one drive israel to the point where people do not want to live there anymore because of the desperate security situation, and drive the united states out of the region. those are what they are operating against, those objectives. president trump i think will work with prime minister netanyahu to end this war in terms favorable to israel. they are our ally and i think he will give them all the support they need. he will not micro manage their operations as the previous or current administration is doing. i think also, bill, very key is what about iran? i know from my israeli sources that netanyahu is fed up with 40
7:35 am
years of iran pulling these punches using their proxies and wants to end it once and for all. that doesn't mean going to war with iran but it does mean weakening iran beyond what he is doing in gaza and what he is doing in lebanon. weakening iran even further to the point where the people in iran feel strengthened enough to take this regime down once and for all. he is likely asking the united states to assist him with that as well. put together a plan to accomplish that. >> bill: i want to ask you about putin in a moment here.
