>> rob o'neill we are arguing over here arguing who should use which bathroom and the chinese are putting together a fighting force and building up their military. pete understands this. you do that by putting on the uniform and actually being out there in the combat theater like pete hegseth has. i thin he will get easily confi. i dare any republican senator to vote against him. that is not in their best interest. we need to get him in place as soon as possible. relief is on the way. this is exactly what i think america was striving for i can't believe how excited i am that pete is going to be -- mr. defense secretary, i will still call him pete. >> laura: i think he will go by both. jason, the thing that i think we are not used to as republicans is just rock solid nominees

trump had some doozies and great picks. great people behind him who got a lot done for him. and there is always tension that, always happens, nothing new there. but, he has -- you know everyone makes in stakes, no one will be a perfect secretary, but this is unusual because the republicans have been undermined from within for a long time both in the senate and in some of these appointments. trump, above all else is like we are done with that we don't have much time. we have to get stuff done and transformational thinkers in these positions. that's what i think they are thinking jason jason you are 10. a lot of times who have this person just to go to find out they were part of the defense industrial dom plex of the past hidden in some think tank somewhere who are these people? thus far if you look at who is being picked out there. governor huckabee to be the

4:21 pm
conventional i'm hoping trump picked him because he is one that wants a strong military but wants to keep us out of stupid wars and not getting into any new ones. i'm really hopeful and optimistic that's what he can bring to the table. >> laura: the big challenge for this country right now comes from china. even though they have economic issues and problems think have population implosion in china, they still are the most serious adversary in the globe. there is no doubt about it. we're going to have to balance our need to keep the military keep pace with china and at the same time rebuild our economy back home with manufacturing, new jobs, that trump also plans to do reagan had to do this rebuild the military and rebuild the economy. he didn't have $36 trillion in
4:22 pm
debt bearing down on him he did have horrific inflation and a country in malaise. this is a different ballgame. >> it is, i will tell you pete will have a big task in front of him because frankly we have under resourced the military in terms of what it can do and then given missions not really fulfilled to do. we got into a war any time soon against china right now, in china's backyard like over taiwan and so south china sea, e are not equipped. we don't have the capabilities we don't have the infrastructure to sustain a war. we need to make sure we don't get into anything in the near term and strongly advocate we need to build up our defense capacity to make sure our strategy is tied with capability. there has been numerous reports come out just recently showed if we got into a war we will return out of long range missiles long

before china would. catastrophic if we got in there. hopefully hegseth gets in there and starts picking some of these problems. >> laura: i think at the same time, we had this war in ukraine that is not going well for ukraine hundreds of thousands dead. a lot of people in the senate still want to spend billions and billions more. that's going to have to also be on the table discussed a prpnd president trump has made it clear he wants this war to be over. he wants it to be done and we hope the results for the people of ukraine are going to be satisfactory no one is going to get everything they want here. colonel, do you agree with that that this ukraine issue got to be one of the first things along with the israeli situation we have to deal with. >> 100 percent. that's the reason i was so excited when trump first announced j.d. vance is going to

i noticed i keep seeing pete's smiling face. imagine how happy he is. one of the things i have noticed in recent years with the progressive caucus and the few mainstream democrats who have any power in the democratic party is that squad toips have been silent and compliant on the war issue. and, yet, you know, they -- stuck with the democrats, stuck with liz cheney. they kick up a fuss about cheney being attached at the hip against kamala harris and now they have lost. where do they go now? they sold their souls to the democratic party. now what happens? i guess we have lost colonel davis. let's hope that aishah hasnie is with us. fox news national correspondent. thank you for joining us. details that you might have regarding this pick of pete hegseth tonight? >> hey, laura good evening to
