donald trump can hit the ground running. >> ainsley: they 8. you know they will republican areas, republican governor who is trying to help out a republican house and a republican president now. so, they will make it happen. and the goal is january 3rd, i think. that's what speaker johnson says. >> brian: right away, by the way elise stefanik governor of new york 90 days to put something on the board. matt gaetz said okay, you nominated me attorney general, i'm out. so he immediately resigned. and that would halt any exposure technically of the ethics investigation supposed to come out any kay. so the question is matt gaetz attorney general, you have two unnamed republican senators, one senator murkowski basically saying she is not going to vote for him. i don't know how many votes he can lose to get out of committee in judiciary. >> steve: four. >> brian: see what his explanation will be. is he very good on his feet. definitely got a controversial background and he has got a lot of tape on him that maybe is not going to help him become the chief cop.

>> steve: political playbook came out. matt gaetz was not on the short list but trump was not satisfied with the people he had spoken to, you know we have talked about some people up for that job we presumed. so, this plan to have him as the attorney general was hatched on the plane. matt gaetz road from joint base andrews with the future president yesterday. and they came up with this. the bulk work says this. this apparently comes down to why donald trump picked matt gaetz they said none of the attorneys had what trump wants. and they didn't talk like gaetz. everybody else looked at the attorney general as if they were applying for a judicial appointment. they talked about their vaunted legal theories and constitutional b.s. gaetz was the only one who said yeah, i will go over there and start cutting f'ing heads and so apparently the president likes

his spirit, his presentation, the big question is can he get confirmed. >> lawrence: i think the thinking ever the former president based on the sources i'm talking to is that there was this comfortability with bill barr but not to the point of cleaning up the entire department. and that's why he wanted someone who be like a -- almost like a pete hegseth, what he is going to do when the defense department is to clean the house. get all the corruption out of there. and there are some people that feels like they just lead the department effectively and don't worry about the career officials. the second thing that i think has come into play. i think criticism matt gaetz and him being a fire brand is okay. he should still get, you know, a vote and be able to defend himself there i do not think it's fair to bring up what is happening in this ethics investigation when the department of justice dismissed charge. so, if our chief law enforcement agency said there is not enough information to pursue a case, why are we turning it over to

congress and some investigation? >> ainsley: yeah. i agree with that if they were able and especially, under a democrat, under joe biden. >> lawrence: right. they said not enough. >> ainsley: right. >> steve: no criminal charges. >> ainsley: exactly, no criminal charges. when he resigned from the house immediately, then the investigation goes away. in the ethics committee. >> steve: right, but the report has been written, apparently, and washington, d.c. leaks like a sieve. and you can bet a dollar to doughnuts if he is -- undergoes the confirmation hearing process, as is standard, somebody is going to read verbatim at from whatever it says. >> ainsley: i think trump wanted to pick someone who has been through investigations, too. and what matt gaetz feels is unfair. he was unfairly treated. they can relate on that. >> lawrence: to your point, ainsley, i don't think they do themselves any favor -- if you don't like matt gaetz, right? and you are planning on leaking this report, this is not going to help your case because it almost emboldens that side of

the party that says why are they coming after him if there was no criminal charges? so why would you go out there and leak information when there was not enough evidence to go to a trial? >> steve: we should point out we don't know what is in the house ethics report, only they know. >> lawrence: i'm saying whatever is in it should not be leaked if there was not enough evidence to go through a trial. we shouldn't be leaking information to targets political opponents. whether it is in favor of him or against him. >> brian: it was going to come out if he stayed in the house. >> steve: within a week. >> brian: within a week. so we know this the "wall street journal" said bad choice. senator joni ernst says he has a lot of work to do. lisa murkowski says: not a serious candidate. we will see. this is going to be senator thune and how hard is senator thune. >> lawrence: this is going to be the toughest nomination to get through out of all the picks. >> steve: absolutely. >> ainsley: i think we all can agree he has good hair.

knows how to herd cats is donald trump. yeah, we have 4 point margin. i need everyone voting for me. there is no one really in the house that stands out as an anti-trumper that's going to try to ruffle things up. sinema might be a different story. 53 once you sit mccormick, that's substantial. >> steve: and, regarding the senate -- so john thune won on a second ballot, rick scott was eliminated after the first round. he won 29-24 over john cornyn. he said we are going to focus on two things. one, republican senators and over the last couple of months he has helped raise so much money. and, also, repairing and mending his relationship with donald trump. and apparently they have been talking more. he is on the same page. the president and john thune spoke yesterday. but, this comes with a background of -- and we were talking about it over the last couple of days how maga influencers were trying to get rick scott across the line.

the conventional wisdom was his ceiling was probably 12 votes. he wound up getting 13, rick scott did. i saw something really interesting this morning. so, john thune's voting record with donald trump, he voted with donald trump 91.4 percent of the time. rick scott, 84% of the time. so, john thune actually more on the page legislatively than rick scott. >> brian: other thing that is interesting to, once they eliminated rick scott, most of the votes went to cornyn. rick scott votes went to cornyn. two good guys. by the way tom cotton becomes number three he doubled up senator joni ernst. that's one of the reasons he is going to be head of the intelligence committee and number 3 in the senate. got two pretty good jobs. >> lawrence: there is a lot of focus on the republican trifecta and how the republican party is going to be able to get this donald trump agenda through. i'm going to be looking at all

of the congressional races and even some of the senate races where donald trump won, but a democrat won as well. because, they are going to have to moderate their position a little bit. especially some of those people that were on the campaign trail that tried to link themselves to donald trump. will they try to be bipartisan? i think there is a mandate for them as well. >> ainsley: i love that they're starting to put younger people in these positions because when he was president before, i think he has learned a lot. he is putting the younger generation in. look at this list. this is vivek 39 years old. elise stefanik is 40. j.d. vance is 40. >> steve: stephen miller 39. >> ainsley: did i miss anyone else? '. >> brian: will tulsi gabbard is 43. >> ainsley: how do you like it you are a millennial. >> lawrence: all this talk about the next generation of leaders. donald trump not only has he remade the republican party, but he is setting them up not only when it comes to different minority communities but the younger generation.

i think it's pretty cool. >> steve: just barely missing that list pete hegseth who i think is 44. just the next generation is up. what is interesting not only is donald trump bringing in new blood, but what he ultimately is doing that list much people over there on the big wall those are the people who are going to be taking the maga philosophy into the next generation after donald trump leaves the white house donald trump and many others continue his legacy. >> brian: here is how the vote broke down in past elections. in 2020, he had 36% of those 18 to 29. it went up to 47%. so he added 11. if you think about it, is he very comfortable with younger people around them. he asks them as many questions as he does when he goes on these podcasts he feels totally comfortable and he doesn't get there amend says i'm 78 years old and was president this the way things are. he asked joe rogan questions and theo vaughan the same thing.

[laughter] >> brian: you are absolutely right. he posed himself as a commentator. i would add one thing is that she came out and this is the whole thing, nancy pelosi had a script. do you know what her script was? jungle primary at the dnc. that was going to save the day. she outmaneuvered nancy pelosi and as soon as he was done and joe biden and kamala harris, the story will be written. she said no, no, it's going to be me. it's going to be her.

eafertion antsz daniel peppy's map slaughter trial will resume in just hours after a key witness took the stand earlier this week. chanley painter is here with the latest. >> good morning, ainsley. gonzalez testifying only after prosecutors agree not to charge him in exchange for his testimony. manslaughter trial. because gonzalez helped constrain jordan neely and initially lied to priewshted, because he was scared about, quote, getting pinned for a murder charge. telling the d.a.'s office that he arrived subway car earlier than he really did and neeley hit him before everything went down. but surveillance footage contradicted and showed he was lying. on the stand tuesday though gonzalez told the jury by stepping in to help hold

scenes? i know a lot of maga world was united behind rick scott. and essentially said to all of you guys, you better vote for trump's guy, that's rick scott. that didn't -- it did not work, ultimately. >> it was so interesting. we had folks that said they were speaking for trump out there and they were putting out there for rick scott. great guy. rick scott is a terrific leader. a great member ever the senate. but the issue became they were saying they were speaking for president trump. president trump never spoke out on that. i have noticed he is not a shrinking violet. he is someone if he has an opinion, he actually says his opinion on that. in fact, as soon as john thune was elected. he put out a statement in strong support of actually john thune and so the time that president trump actually spoke about the leadership elections was immediately afterwards and actually was in support of thune. thune supported trump overwhelmingly. look at the vote history when from when trump was here before. so he has been very supportive of president trump. and he came out immediately in the press conference and reaffirmed it.

have seen him over the last couple of years. i have got a feeling what he is going to do is if there are some republican senators who are sitting on the fence and currently four would have to say no to matt gaetz for the confirmation to fail, but knowing donald trump, is he probably going to get on the horn and say hey, i got all you guys elected. you got to help me out here. >> yeah, he will stay engaged in the process as he was. i would say there is a huge difference between joe biden and donald trump in a million different policy areas. it's also a big difference in how he handle issues. president trump was always engaged with members of congress on the phone, calling, coming over, getting a chance to be able to talk back and forth. coming to the capitol. a lot of action to be able to move legislation. joe biden has not left the building. has never called most members of congress and is not engaged. even his legislative team doesn't engage. president trump is a hands on leader. i fully expect him to be able to be engaged. >> steve: he wants to get a lot done and he needs your help. senator, thank you very much for joining us. i know you have a busy day.
