campaign has really perfected. it's going around the legacy media to reach people. i think they are continuing that now clearly it is exciting the segment of the electorate and not a narrow one that ufc itself is not just usually popular you are sort of in making the statement over and over again we are talking to people if you like they've been ignored, overlooked or talked down to over the last four years. it's a great strategy it is clearly effective is clearly helpful in the campaign and the fact the president continues to sort of exercise that is great. >> what is your take on the omni presence of elon musk including his permission to participate or be privy to high level interactions with foreign dignitaries what you think of that? >> this a commission i think it's going to be a little bit outside of government. it won't work with a lot of folks inside the government. i think they will be careful

about those boundaries and i think again it's an illustration of the fact the president is willing to call on people who do not have traditional backgrounds to fix problems that have proven to be insoluble over the last several decades. government spending, government waste you hear about it. arthel: at one second excuse me. i know you have talking points and i appreciate that. but elon musk as they are talking to high level -- mickey is involved in high-level conversations with foreign dignitaries. is that okay? >> elon musk has been very involved in government contracting for many years. i think he is very familiar with these circles. he has very involved in these circles at high levels with sensitive information. he is been involved with the defense department at high levels. i don't think anything happening so far has triggered any significant concerns.

if there were something tripped there's plenty of people who would be interested in looking into that. i've not seen anything yet that's of any particular concern. arthel: okay we will move on now in your party is also poised to control both chambers of congress. but that might be over in two years. so first up let me play some sound from speaker johnson on the first 100 days. >> the new reform agenda begins in earnest as soon as the president donald j trump takes the office in january. we have a full agenda to run. it's going to be very aggressive first 100 days and for the new congress. we are getting all the members of congress ready for that for perthe houses in preparing for s for almost a year. and now these senate under his new leadership leader elected soon, he and i met this week and he told me he is ready to go and deliver on that america first

policies. it will be a very busy time for congress in the country. arthel: so what aspects of the gop agenda do you expect them to prioritize? how would that benefit americans? >> i think americans are interested in seeing an extension of the 2016 tax cuts. that something i think will be highly prioritized in a reconciliation bill overly aggressive a lot of congressional review acts. there were 16 that were passed in the first trump administration. as many as 100 available to them at regulations that could be reversed given the amount of time -- depending upon the amount of time they have in the senate floor. this commission is a very interesting i initiative the president has established.

they'll find real ways to cut back on government waste. an administrative bloat. immigration obviously is something many of the voters expressed a strong interest in getting a handle on when you have 40% of latino voters saying this is her top priorities. it's clearly something where there is a clear mandate to do something to secure the southern border. arthel: it will be watching out for that as well, how that is going to play out. you mentioned the senate floor you were mitch mcconnell's chief of staff. if you are advising newly elected senate majority leader jon the thune what would you tell him? quick center thune does not need any advice for me. he has got incredible experience. he was there in 2016 when they pass the last tax bill. on the senate finance committee. he is intimately familiar with all the provisions that need to be extended.

he is extremely effective will be very effective at corralling members he's the right path at the right time i think republicans are excited about the unity we are enjoying right now the ability to do some important things the public as s asked us to do following the election. arthel: lamy squeeze and it really quickly now that senator mcconnell has stepped out as the longest-serving senate leader in history with plans as you know to complete a senate term which ends in 2027 in january. should we expect the bold moves from him over the next two years? leader mcconnell was made it clear is going to focus on foreign policy and defense. he fully appreciates the dangers in the world that we face right now. and is going to use whatever time he has left in the senate to focus on that important issue.

what i think it's totally disqualifying for anyone who seeks to lead the major health agency in this country and a one of the leaders in the world to unequivocably say there's no safe and effective vaccine. that in and of itself from the bully pulpit of hhs could end up killing people could end up harming children my grandson is too young to get a lot of vaccination jet. having him exposed to unvaccinated people with polio and measles is a terrifying thought. >> do you think that will happen or do you think that's alarmist? >> it and that's absolutely alarmist wheat note certain vaccines are needed. you look at measles, you look at polio but sadly what happened during the pandemic to it if fauci saying everybody needed covid vaccines. the purpose of a vaccine it's her take at risk population to decrease the severity of disease the cdc is a pushing and saying

can bring us back and say what is good what's not is going to the don't get a blank credit card to continue spending on research that may not be really necessary for american public. eric: the bottom line is do you think we will be healthier and you think some of these issues will be addressed and have not been addressed in the past will be made public will be here more about that or do you fear, as critics say he is a danger to our society? >> i believe that is alarmist her. i do think we do pull the band-aid off. pull the scab off on american healthy look at the obesity that was on in our country i look at it eastern north carolina were the rate of obesity is just terribly subsequent chronic disease, kidney disease, heart tributes diabetes all go along with this that are not necessarily present in any other country. i do think it's okay to disrupt it and it's okay to question what we are doing in american

frankly i do not think daniel penny should've been charged in the first place. the evidence is overwhelming. i'm sorry for the victim but he came in with obviously drugs in his system threatening people. yelling and screaming i think penny stepped in and get the right thing. i do not think he should've been charged. arthel: do want to read a quote from doctor cynthia harris yard it made in court here it is. she said i base my decision on the autopsy findings coupled with the video. i did not wait for the toxicology because no toxicological report would change my opinion. he could have come back with enough sentinel to kill an elephant and walked on the train and got put in a chokehold that andthat is how he died what is e impact on the jury? >> a fascinating i was a prosecutor for a long time a very aggressive prosecutor and

you are always, arthel you are always prepared to change your opinion if the evidence supports it. and then this particular case bragg instead of listening to the evidence, instead of following the rule of law he did not allow the case to go to the grand jury. think the grand jury would have looked at this he instead within 10 days of the advanced charged it. did not interview all of the witnesses. did not review all the evidence this is a pure sloppy politically charged prosecution. arthel: let me ask you a quick question because i want to move onto the next case there's a lot of public outcry surrounding that case so might there have been the effort to take it off the street and into the court and get some official answers? >> absolutely paid the public came out and rightly said i saw the video. i saw the chokehold and i want something to happen.

but as a prosecutor you cannot allow the public to influence your decision. it is so improper. and again, not to bring up the whole trump matter but it does remind me of that bragg campaigns on i am going to go after trump. arthel: let's not get sidetracked with that mr. lewis i feel your passion but i do want to move onto this other case that is very important as well and that is the laken riley case is horrible to hear the testimony in the body camp tape and everything we heard last week. but, illegal immigrant jose ibarra opted for a bench trial no jury. what you expecting from this trial this week? >> it was kind of a surprise a couple of days ago, rather than facing a jury, ibarra filed a motion for judge i'll you to try the case instead.

now frankly that's probably a good move by the defense because a jury is going to hear this horrific evidence. you can't do anything. it breaks your heart and the family sitting in the back. good god is terrible. but the problem with this strategy and the reason why i think it's not a good strategy of the defenses part necessarily as rather than putting, really the evidence is so overwhelming. rather than putting the court family through yet another days and maybe weeks of trauma, pleaded guilty. throw yourself on the mercy of the court and ask for forgiveness. that's where this case is going and frankly there's another element here of a prosecutor who ran on defund the police. that's election she got thrown out. arthel: mr. lewis, mr. lewis i'm
