another state held captive by their state legislature. we need to put pressure on those people to do the right thing and let us go. >> brian: don't let the door hit you on the you know what and maybe they want to excavate themselves from people that disagree with them politically. that might be a secret weapon. we'll have to leave it there and look forward to tracking this on the way. see certain states expand. that would be unique. >> steve: thanks for getting the word out. >> ainsley: you can leave oregon without moving. >> steve: we've seen the map for years where it is all red except some little pockets of blue. >> dana: trump did make gains. >> steve: now the red is fighting back. >> ainsley: bye, everyone. >> dana: the illegal immigrant charged with murdering laken riley is back in court for day two of his trial. prosecutors say he attacked and killed the 22-year-old in february while she was jogging on the university of georgia campus. we are monitoring that more breaking news and bring you any
6:01 am
updates as we get them. but first. the cabinet is stacked and packed. president-elect trump rolling out more nominees on what was a very busy weekend indeed. i'm dana perino and bill is off today. good morning, john. >> john: good morning, dana. you have a big birthday like bill did and suddenly you start to get tired and want to take some time off. >> dana: maybe that's it. >> john: he is off today or maybe partied too much on the weekend. cabinet coming into focus, president-elect announcing nominees to head the department of energy and federal communications commission. more on that in just a moment. because there was also this over the weekend. >> ladies and gentlemen, look who is now making his way to the world famous octagon flanked by dana white, 45, soon to be 47 president-elect donald trump.
6:02 am
>> dana: a roaring ovation for the president-elect. he was back at madison square garden for a ufc fight saturday. bill melugin following it all from west palm beach and good morning to you, bill. >> dana, good morning to you as well. we're getting our very first reaction from this incoming trump administration to news that broke yesterday which is that president biden is giving the green light to ukraine to use u.s. supplied long range missiles to attack russia within russia territory. trump's pick for national security advisor mike waltz was on fox news and reacted to that major development. take a listen. >> so this is a development but it is a tactical one. president trump is talking grand strategy here. how do we get both sides to the table, to end this war? what's the framework for a deal and who is sitting at that table? those are the things that i and president trump, of course, will
6:03 am
be working with. >> as for president trump's future administration, the rest of it here is where we stand now. the graphic is getting bigger every day making more picks every day. more than 20 of these selections just since election day less than two weeks ago. some picks expected to have bipartisan support. others are a little more controversial and donald trump junior says controversy isn't necessarily a bad thing. >> i think we're going with the strongest candidates first. some will be controversial. they are controversial because we'll get things done. we'll make sure those people have the best chance at getting confirmed. >> one of the big spots we're waiting to hear is treasury secretary. new names added to the list of consideration according to the "new york times" kevin warsh, a
6:04 am
former federal reserve governor. mark rowan, a wall street billionaire and howard lot nick, ceo and investor scott bessent. everyone waiting for that announcement to be made. the economy was one of trump ace big pillars for the 2024 campaign. earlier this morning trump confirmed in a truth social post that he is planning to declare a national emergency and use military assets to help carry out his plans for mass deportations. on that front we're also waiting to find out who he is going to choose to be the ice director. he has picked tom homan to be the overall border czar. you need an ice director to carry out the mass deportations and waiting to find out who that will be as well. >> dana: if anyone finds it out, i'm sure it will be you. >> john: more now on the mass deportations across the country being promised by the president to begin on day one of his
6:05 am
administration. republicans look to reverse is border chaos of the last four years. democrat resistance already rising on capitol hill. mark meredith is here with the latest on that. >> good morning to you. president-elect trump has made it crystal clear he is planning to overhaul america's immigration system including deportations of people in the u.s. illegally especially those con convicted of crimes. it could end parole from places like cuba and venezuela. he insists it will be a targeted approach. >> president trump made it clear we'll concentrate on public and national security threats. what member of congress, governor or mayor is against taking public safety threats out of their community? >> democrats said it is not about national security but the economy. the new message coming off the hill. mass deportations could mean higher prices. >> deportations equal inflation and so do tariffs.
6:06 am
a lot of people voted trusting that trump was going to lower inflation even more. but we're going to see how that works out. >> what we see is the mass deportations are going to have a negative impact on the u.s. economy. some of these people are doctors and are nurses. >> multiple democratic governors are vowing to block wide ranging federal deportation program. the governor of new jersey calling it contrary to the country's values. we don't know how the governors may try to block the sweeping federal action and don't know how much this will cost the feds to carry out a program. it is interesting we're hearing that switch from democrats saying it is more about the economy as opposed to public safety. >> john: they're trying to find anything they can throw on it to make it seem like it's the wrong thing to do. we'll talk to tom homan this afternoon. mark, thank you, appreciate it. >> dana: love the deep tease for this afternoon. let's bring in fox news contributor charlie hurt. eli lake had this headline.
6:07 am
wanted to tee you up with this. history lesson democrats can't afford to forget. trump exploded political norms and democrats responded in kind. being an opposition party was not enough, they believed. instead they would fight his very legitimacy and built the idea of resistance into their very fabric and it infected every aspect of progressive society and i think one of the things eli is doing there is trying to basically help the democrats pinpoint the disease, not just the symptoms. >> yeah. and obviously that kind of helped them somewhat in the short term trying to do that in 2016. the problem with this go round they're out of all their ammunition. they've tried everything and quite frankly even if democrats controlled the house, i would be surprised if they would actually try to go the impeachment route again even if they had the position to try to do it. because i think that it
6:08 am
ultimately blew up in their faces pretty badly. by the way, i think that resistance actually ended up being somewhat effective in terms of keeping president trump in his first term from getting done a lot of things he wanted to get done. all the hindrances are gone now. it is all gone. they spent all their ammo and none of it worked. it wound up making him more powerful and he gets reelected and focused on the idea the next four years has to be the most consciousall four years of a president in our lifetimes and i think that's what we're seeing in this -- with this raft of picks for his cabinet. he wants and don junior is not wrong about that. he realizes some of these are controversial but controversial because they intend to do things that are controversial in washington, which is to change things and fix things. so it will be a fascinating four years. >> dana: the democrats are trying to figure out a way to get their footing.
6:09 am
"the new york times" said democrats draw up an entirely new anti-trump battle plan and then you had this from blue state governors. listen to them sending a warning to president trump. >> if you try to harm new yorkers or roll back their rights, i will fight you every step of the way. >> every tool in the tool box is going to be used to protect our citizens, to protect our residents and protect our states. >> you come for my people, you come through me. >> dana: and yet there is a different democrat that's telling them stop freaking out. listen to him. >> trump that gets the kind of thing that he wanted. you know, like the freak-out and all of those things. and he hasn't even been -- still not even not even thanksgiving yet. if we are having meltdowns every tweet or appointment or all those things it will be four years. >> dana: i feel like john
6:10 am
fetterman is this wise person that the democrats are choosing to ignore. >> who would have thought that two years ago? but he really has become sort of one of the wisest voiceest on their side and i think he realizes he is -- he is cognizant of reality what's in front of him, which is very effective and important thing in politics for anybody to realize you have to acknowledge the reality on the ground and that's what he recognizes and recognizes -- we saw this before the election. he recognized that president trump, he recognized that even elon musk campaigning for donald trump in pennsylvania was highly effective. they were talking about things that mattered to voters. and they are the same voters that john fetterman needs to get reelected and he got used to get elected or got their votes to get elected and he realized that donald trump -- donald trump is not -- did not win because emote
6:11 am
vated right wing maga or republicans across the country. he won because he raided those voters in the very same voters that john fetterman was able to get. and i think if democrats don't recognize that and start trying to make an argument to win those voters back they'll see -- the mid-terms traditionally go against the incumbent in power. well, if they continue down this path i think donald trump could maybe buck history even on that. >> dana: i agree. trump won those voters. he doesn't intend to lose them and so anyway, so much more to come. i could talk to you all day. >> he talked about things that matter to them. >> dana: he did, great to have you. >> john: another history-making moment for donald trump. he is now the first republican president to surpass 76 million. 153 million ballots cost and
6:12 am
hundreds of thousands yet to be tallied. trump sealed his victory with a 312 electoral vote victory or over harris 226. a crushing victory in anybody's book. >> dana: a big move. the major foreign policy shift biden is making as he prepares to leave office and also this. >> i am here because i care deeply about the future of our country. >> dana: week two of this one. controversy surrounding oprah winfrey. did the harris campaign pay her a personal fee to appear at an event with the vice president before the election? and the recount set to get underway in pennsylvania's closely contested senate race. are some blue counties actually counting illegal ballots? >> it is a revealing moment. it is an honest moment where you have this official saying i just
6:13 am
don't care. i don't care that the highest court in my state said that these do not count. every day, veteran homeowners are calling newday to pay off credit card debt that's been piling up. many were shocked to learn they've been paying 22% on their credit card balances. and if payments were late, as much as 30%. that's over three times the interest rate on a newday 100 va home loan. pay off high rate credit cards and other debt with a lower rate newday home loan. save hundreds a month, thousands a year. as the people you love get older, their risk of severe flu and covid goes up. last year, those viruses hospitalized nearly 1 million people 65 and older.
6:18 am
>> please welcome kamala harris! [cheers and applause] >> john: a any report says the harris campaign gave oprah's production company more than 2 million. twice the estimate of $1 million. the harris team raised more than a billion dollars for her failed presidential bid. they are still asking for more
6:19 am
contributions because the campaign is 20 million in debt. we'll take a deeper look at the numbers coming up next hour . >> dana: president biden making a curtain call on the world stage in brazil. his final appearance at the g20 summit. with months left in office he announced major shift in u.s. policy toward ukraine that will soon land on the desk of the trump presidency. lucas tomlinson is live in rio. this comes after russia also made a move. lucas. >> that's right, dana. this is something ukraine's president has been begging the u.s. to overturn, this decision russia has been launching short range ballistic missiles into ukraine for nearly three years. now earlier trump's incoming national security advisor mike waltz reacted to the news. >> it's another step up the escalation ladder and nobody knows where this is going. north korea is unleashing
6:20 am
ballistic missiles, artillery, tens of thousands of soldiers. the administration responds by lifting this restriction. >> dana, moments ago world leaders arrived at the first event in rio on world hunger. notable president biden did not use the same red carpeted ramp by other leaders. he arrived after china's president of a state visit in brazil like he received over the weekend in peru. biden did not. russia's foreign minister has arrived in brazil. putin is not attending. russia is a member of the g20. biden has signed off on a limited counter strike allowing ukraine to use american missiles the goal is to kill north korean and russia soldiers in kursk where ukraine launched an incursion in august.
6:21 am
biden's decision to use these longer-range missiles comes one day after russia launched one of its largest attacks on ukraine firing over 200 missiles and drones targeting ukraine's energy infrastructure. ukraine has lost as many soldiers as the u.s. did in vietnam. russia has lost twice that number. off the top it comes with president biden leaving office in two months, dana. >> dana: lucas in rio, thank you. >> john: love the dog in the background. let's bring in retired four star general jack keane, strategic analyst. great to see you. donald trump has been talking to putin, warned him against escalation. this would seem to be a provocative move on the part of the biden administration. how do you think putin will respond? >> i think really you have to understand the state of play here. certainly the people coming into the administration have to get their classified briefings on
6:22 am
where putin is today, what his objectives and goals are. the state of play frankly is putin that we're dealing with today four years after president trump and his team dealt with them in the previous administration, is very different. he is a war fighting commander. he has his entire economy on a war fighting basis. he is absolutely determined with conviction to still take all of ukraine. that is his objective. he in no way, shape or form is ready to go to negotiations. and just take a portion of ukraine. that's not where he is. and how are we going to get him to where he? this is a step in the right direction. we have to give ukraine more leverage and also push putin into those negotiations. certainly releasing the long-range missiles to be able to attack inside russia where
6:23 am
russia has been attacking as luke pointed out since the war began into ukraine makes compelling sense. also the brits and french will be able to do the same. they're restricting it to the kursk area. paralysis on part of the administration. can you imagine putin use a nuclear weapon before trump comes in? it doesn't make sense to anybody in the world. of course not. >> bill: trump has said during the one debate we had during the election he will end the ukraine war before he takes office. zelenskyy seems to certainly be optimistic about the effect of a trump administration will have. he said the change in the policy of the united states suggests that in my opinion the war will be over. i think the war will end and not abstractly. there is no exact date but with the policies of the team that will now lead the white house,
6:24 am
the war will end sooner. so my question is, how will trump end the war? >> well, it's going to end the war by the fact you have to get russia to be able to make a deal. and i think as i indicated we need more leverage. where zelenskyy is coming from certainly he has had his problems with biden but appreciates the fact that biden was supporting him but he held them up. in the beginning when we found out that russia wasn't the force we thought it was and ukraine much more than the force ukraine had an opportunity to win. he held back all the capabilities that they needed as we've seen and complained about for two years. i think what zelenskyy looks at with president trump, he has a much tougher leader here who putin actually respects. why? the evidence is clear. putin wanted to retake ukraine after 2014.
6:25 am
and the fact of the matter is trump came in to power and when putin was ready it took him a couple of years to put his arsenal together to do it. but he didn't do it. why didn't he do it? because president trump told him in no uncertain terms if you do this, you will suffer severe consequences. that is a fact. i don't know what the words were but the message was the same. putin didn't move for four years. actually for five years. that's the reality of it. so zelenskyy knows that story. and he knows he has got a much tougher leader here who will have some impact on putin. i think that's why you are getting this optimistic message from zelenskyy and also let's be frank. he wants to have a good relationship with this incoming president. >> john: i'm sure he does. we are why et to hear from donald trump about the attack. we have asked and hopefully hear from 47 very soon. great to catch up with you this
6:26 am
monday morning. appreciate it. >> yes, great seeing you, john, thank you, in the morning. >> john: yes, and the afternoon, thank you. just like dana the morning and the afternoon. i don't know how you do it every day. >> dana: it is a joy indeed. we are keeping an eye on athens, georgia, the migrant charged with killing laken riley is attending day two of his murder trial. paul mauro is there and get a chance to talk to him in a moment. plus the battle over fairness in women's sports could make its way to the supreme court. the latest on two high-profile appeals.

6:32 am
because when we listened to the testimony on friday, it was very compelling. >> yeah, it continues to be. we're getting down to the nitty-gritty of the police action in response to the calls that they got. right now on the stand is the officer what responded to the apartment that jose ibarra was found in and where he lived with his brothers, there is a nuance going on here. the prosecution is very meticulously making a couple points of the difference in jose ibarra's body type as compared to his older brother, diego and jose had visible injuries and diego did not. the scratches we know were observed on jose's body and we know that laken riley did fight for her life and had fingernail debris collected by the police but also there is the video that shows an individual taking what looks to be a hoodie and
6:33 am
depositing it in a dumpster. that ends up being important evidence. it has both who say and laken's dna and bloods on it and appears to be heavier than diego. the prosecution is getting out ahead of the defense's plan trying to muddy up the waters and dna but saying it could come back to one of the brothers and not jose. >> dana: want you to listen to tom homan. president-elect trump's border czar nominee. i don't know if they'll call it that. tom homan on this particular death. >> this administration has blood on their hands. listen to the way the young lady died. listen to her fight for her life for 17 minutes. fighting for breath, fighting to survive. we will save lives. not just americans but save lives of citizens and those legal migrants who are sometimes the victim of the illegal alien
6:34 am
crimes. >> dana: they freed 22,000 or more criminal migrants being sought by ice under the biden-harris administration by blue cities. this case is what people are concerned about across the country. >> it really is. we've talked about the fact you sometimes get these iconic crimes that stand for something larger that bring a certain issue to the attention of the american people. this is certainly one of them. tom homan speaks of the frustration of so many americans when you hear the details of this. the fact jose was here illegally. he was released from ice custody twice. his brother diego the same. both of them arrested here for minor crimes. diego cut off his ankle brace let. they claim the same issues relative to venezuela to get released. it looks contrived and something we have to get to. >> dana: i want to interrupt you, i'm sorry. i want to get your take on the fact that the police officers
6:35 am
are having to testify today because the criminal migrant was released. >> yeah. that's an issue that goes to the fact that there is no coordination nationally regarding a gang like tren de aragua and the criminal migrants. you have the local police officers making these pinprick arrests around the country doing what they can. in some cases important felonies. there is no synchronization. none of it is being shared in a database. we don't know the contours of what we're dealing at a national level because there has been no involvement from d.o.j. when was the last time you saw a big take down from d.o.j. relative to tren de aragua. you haven't. it hasn't happened. where has the national level been for the last four years. >> dana: do you think it will change? >> absolutely. look, there is going to be a mass deportation project. you have to make the cases as well to start with the criminals and here is an important fact.
6:36 am
we want to find these people trafficked, especially children. those kids won't present at a precinct on their own. to find them you have to get to the traffickers and interview people and flip people and put in undercovers, dump phones, get up on wiretaps. you find the kids by going after the people that traffic them not just throwing people out. that's what we'll have to do. >> dana: we'll check back with you as news happens in the trial of murder suspect of laken riley. >> john: fox news tracking the tren de aragua gang clocking over two dozen arrests in crime ridden chicago. experts warning it is just the beginning for the criminal suspects who only plan on expanding further into the united states. mike tobin is live with the latest. president trump or president-elect trump is vowing to crack down and a lot to crack down on. >> more evidence that the open border policy is allowing south
6:37 am
american criminal gangs access to the u.s. not just border towns but the hartland itself. the conservative thing talk am first legal examined arrest records from chicago police in found in less than two years 30 people had connections with the gang tren de aragua. determined by ex appear, inc. the narrative in each record to see if the arresting officer thought the trend to tren de aragua was big enough to write it in the report. dozens more linked to the gang who didn't get arrested or didn't get mentioned in paperwork. >> these individuals were ultimately released because they are seeing asylum. come through with their wife and children under the auspices of asylum. in reality what you are seeing is trans national gangs coming in and establishing a foothold where they can engage in drug manufacturing, drug dealing, human trafficking.
6:38 am
>> couple of cases highlighted are the "new york post" reports one man came across the border illegally in may of 2023 and with his wife and kids. he shows up in the chicago data picked up for a traffic violation and the post reports domestic abuse. also that he had been ordered deported before the domestic abuse case but he was in the states. another man shows up with an arrest for narcotics. post reports his charges were dropped. both mentions of tren de aragua connections in arrest records. america first legal says they aren't coming across necessarily for a better way of life but to expand their criminal networks. john. >> john: mike tobin in chicago with the latest on tda. >> dana: the controversy over fairness in girls' sports is in the docket the supreme court. the justices are weighing to review high profile appeals. the cases involve transgender athletes and where exactly they
6:39 am
can participate. we'll bring you updates as they happen. everybody watching this closely. >> they could save tens or hundreds of billions of dollars depending how it is structured and what they do. this could be a constructive undertaking that ought to be embraced. >> john: the new department of government efficiency promising to cut 2 trillion from the federal budget. can they do any good? shark tank's mr. wonderful on that coming up next. another potential shake-up in washington with incoming hhs secretary. what rfk junior can do to make america healthy again. >> traditionally the democrats have said it. the food industry fight backs, food lobbies fight back.

6:45 am
>> dana: president-elect trump's pick to head the department of health a and human services is ready for the pushback and kelly is live inside a grocery store in oak park, illinois. my friend from third grade liz miller moved there. >> i love that, hi. under this role he will be overseeing the fda, which regulates 78% of the nation's food supply. the rest of the nation's food, which is meat, eggs and poultry is overseen by the department of agriculture. that will be important in a second. i caught up with marian, who used to be a senior advisor in the department of health and human services from 86 to 88. she says she is really curious about this shift of bipartisan support. what was once an issue on the left is now an issue for everyone, healthy food and she is really excited about it.
6:46 am
but the reason why she is curious is she says this is a very courageous undertaking because he will be going up against the big food industries and big agriculture. she gave me an example how that works. take a listen. >> i was told on my first day on the job that that report would never say anything about eating less meat because if it did, the department of agriculture under pressure from the meat industry would prevent the report from coming out. so the idea that the food industry influences american food policy is an absolute given. >> kennedy has mentioned fruit loops in his concerns. one of the only specific foods he has shouted out. we reached out to kellogg's, the maker of many of our favorite cereals about his nomination. they responded we have always worked effectively with policymakers across the political spectrum and that will continue to be the case.
6:47 am
one of the reasons why he has mentioned cereals is the bright colors and red dyes, red dye number three was considered to cause cancer for cosmetics. we were told it to extend into food. 34 years later we have not seen that change. dana. >> dana: kelly, thank you for that. my sister loves fruit loops. i will tell her to be aware. thanks, kelly. >> john: the newly minted department of government efficiency aimed to throw a blow at redundancy in government. listen to this. >> overhalf a trillion dollars that is spent every year right now was not even authorized by congress in the first place. they can't even tell you where it goes. we have talked a big game for 40 years cutting the federal government and reducing the scope.
6:48 am
politicians haven't been able to do it. elon and i aren't politicians, we're businessmen and coming at it from the outside. >> john: mr. wonderful, kevin o'leary joins us now. back in 2010 a commission proved it is not hard to find places to cut spending. what is hard is getting congress to go through with it. will it be any different this time around? >> yes, it will be different. what he didn't have at that time was the mega phone elon musk has. politicians need to raise money and they do it using social media. he doesn't have a mandate here, i said musk has better than that. he has x. what happens is, you are in some state somewhere and you own a project to nothing and you are spending $2 billion, he just will shame you out. he will start naming to all of your voters exactly what you have did wrong and not doing to
6:49 am
fix it. i love the concept of squeezing heads to stop waste. all he has to do is turn on the machine. it will be very contentious. i have said it multiple times about the mandate. the power he has is not to be underestimated. if you can get to the voter of that governor or that senator that's wasting money in his eyes and he can make a good case on x, you will cause a lot of damage in that constituency. i love this idea. it is a negotiation. that's what it is. if you don't fix it i'll call you out. >> john: $44 billion he spent on x might be a bargain if he can leverage it like that. the breakdown on federal spending. healthcare 25%, social security 25%, defense 13 to 15%. safety net programs 10%. interest on national debt eight to 10%. 61% of spending is mandatory. 13% is on debt service.
6:50 am
26% is discretionary, which will be the target of doge. that is a small piece of the pie to try to ring $2 trillion out of. >> i don't know. healthcare could be another place of savings. we haven't used any technology there yet or digitized medical records or brought a mandate of a.i. into that. i think we could save a lot of money. the u.s. has one of the worst ir returns on healthcare spending compared to european countries. they do a much better job. they share the records on a much better basis than we do. we're concerned about privacy. we can fix that, too. i like looking at everything. i don't see any reason why these two can't just release the hounds and go nuts. everybody is interested to find out what they are going to see. i would like to hear it myself. maybe it is a means test on social security. we have to fix it because the deficit is getting a little big right now. the market is starting to get
6:51 am
uneasy. i worry about that. >> john: no question that social security is something that might need to be looked at. simpson bowls said let's look at that and republicans in congress said no, not going to touch that. elon musk is having no end of fun with all of this. america his pac produced this tweet saying the pentagon just failed its seventh audit in a row. the nation's largest government agency can't fully account for its budget. they don't know where billions of taxpayer money is going. efficiency coming. musk retweeted sounds like a job with doge. >> i rest my case, your honor. here he goes. he will keep on these guys hitting them every day to a billion people willing to listen and the head squeezing against. i love head squeezing. this is fantastic. he won't go away. he'll keep going and going. no one will stop him.
6:52 am
he owns the network. nothing quite like it. i love it. this is terrific. >> john: we'll see if they can ring the money out of the federal budget. great to catch up with you. >> dana: president-elect trump moving to get his cabinet in place. should he bypass the senate getting nominees confirmed. conference chair tom cotton is again. why the lawsuits in pennsylvania are piling up.
6:54 am
