live whatever ethics come out and he gets in front of people. is he such a strong communicator. if he can tone it down and say that's the old me. i was a fire brand in the house. but the way i'm going to approach the department of justice is, this it might make people pause and say maybe people can have a different approach for a different job. >> lawrence: you are right, brian. if you can say hey, this is what the people of my district elected me to do was to be their fire brand, that's one thing. is he well-liked within his district i keep going back to this because i feel so strongly about this. every investigation, especially when there is the department of justice, fbi going after you, there is an investigative file. the house essentially took that file and they decided to do their own ethics investigation. my problem is when the investigations endnder the department of justice, we never see that file. it's because they didn't have enough evidence to present to a court or to get an indictment. that's the way it's always been. putting information out -- how would you like that to be done for you. you are investigated, you are

after me. and it was unfair. and they didn't find anything with me and the same thing with matt gaetz. he has actually doubled down he wants him to be the pick. >> brian: front page in the "new york times" says this. federal inquiry trace gaetz from women. bowl centers claims by women who say they were hired for sex. and then they go into "new york times." this happens for the next two months it might be too much. >> steve: it's a lot. >> ainsley: yesterday i had fox on in my apartment constantly. i was in and out of the kitchen and watching the laken riley trial. last night someone sent me the letter that her step-father read in court. and it broke my heart. because this happens a lot in southern christian circles. we write letters to our future husbands. and. >> brian: that almost confused me. don't you have to have a boyfriend? >> ainsley: he went through her journal and one of her journal entries that was recent, right before she was killed, was about a few months before she was killed, was a letter to her future husband.

i'm thankful justice was swift and the judge moved so quickly. >> lawrence: it was quick, governor. we are talking about 20-minutes to deliberate and then right after that, he made it very clear. i'm prepared to do a sentence right now. if you guys need a break. we can go to break. he delivered it very swiftly there is some talk that there should be more, such as the death penalty. what authority do you have in regards to that or is that in the a.g.'s hands right now? how does the law work in georgia? >> >> yeah that would really be in the prosecutor's hands. i wouldn't be able to comment on that. listen, the testimony from the family, their bravery was incredible but also heart breaking and i think certainly that moved the judge, and i appreciate the severity of the sentence under the ramifications that he had based on the prosecutor. that's really all i can tell you right now. i would tell you that, you know,

i text john phillips last week and just told them i know how hard this is on the family and her friends and really our local community, our state and the whole country is watching this case. told him we were praying for him. this is why we had a change in the election. people are outraged that the border has been this open for this long. have the government transporting people around the country and we have no idea who these people are, where they are going. why the republican governors in this country have repeated asked the biden administration to at least tell us, you know, who are the people that you are moving? where are you taking them and then if you move them somewhere else, to let us know so we can simply know if these people are in our state, if they are in our cities or not, and that has been met with cr crickets. >> lawrence: you talk about the mandate from the election and this is clearly the number two issue for the voters. the economy is number one. but you look at all these

progressive mayors, these governors yesterday, they were on air talking about how they are going to resist this administration. that this was protecting democracy. that they weren't going to cooperate with ice once trump and his administration got into office. so, do you think they are listening to the american people even after this mandate? >> >> look, i can't speak for what their thinking is. i don't know how you even comment on that when you don't even know what policies that they are going to implement. i would ask them to just wait and hear from the transition committee, from the president-elect himself on what exactly he is going to do and then make the decision. i mean, they are making a preconceived decision here without even knowing the parameters of that i can tell you from my perspective and a lot of the republican colleagues that i have been working with. really over the last six years, to help secure our border when president trump was in office, that i look forward to working with the administration. i mean, we don't know exactly what their plans are going to

be. they have always been open to dialogue from governors on those kind of things. and i'm sure they will be in this case. but, you know, we have also been working on securing the border under the biden administration. unfortunately we were having to do it with governor greg abbott instead of the president. and i think that's what is going to change on january the 20th. >> lawrence: real quickly governor because i'm out of time. there is always talk about i mean, you got a landslide victory yourself but you still have some liberal cities within your state. what happens if some cities within your state refuse to cooperate? do you have powers as governor to stop them from resisting this administration? >> yeah. you know, this debate has been going on since the tragic death of laken riley. we passed some legislation last year that will help us with that because the white house has not been identifying these people. i think that's going to change here very soon with the trump administration. but, you know, we also sent some

former congressional candidate in california kate monroe joins us now. kate, you are amazing. you are a veteran yourself. you started this company, it's for profit traded company, publicly traded company. it's incredible. you go into these encampments, dangerous areas, you said what has happened to you when you go into these areas? >> i have had drug dealers try to feet me up. i have been chased down the street. i had machetes pulled on me. i had to get a body man i was so unsafe standing on top 6 needles and other drugs. very scary work. >> ainsley: with your experience you have such a heart for these veterans. you were in it with them. why are so many veterans homeless? >> so many veterans are homeless because they transition poorly from the service. we're a skill bridge company meaning if you are active duty service member can you work for us while you are still active duty the second you get out you'll have a job. that's not the case for the people that get out of the service. so they don't have a runway. they have no money and they have

mental health challenges that no one addresses. they let you out of the service like good luck. i was raped when i was in the marine corps. i had to seek a lot of counsel for myself and pay for that out of pocket. that's not the case for most people and they get out with all this trauma. >> ainsley: what do you do when you go in and find a veteran that is homeless. >> when we find a veteran that's homeless if we have a city partner resources. we usually bring those partner resources out on the walk with us. that way if the person is willing to get off the street today. we can get them off the street today. >> ainsley: that's awesome. what about this administration? has the biden administration been helpful for you? have we seen numbers go up and down and what about under trump? >> it was interesting. trump's first term it was way down. veteran homelessness, because they were really heavily leaned in to the veteran community. when we had this migrant crisis, a lot of the v.a. head bash funds house homeless veterans got reallocated to migrants. >> ainsley: what? >> i think it will go down under this administration. >> ainsley: that money supposed to go to the veterans went to

you saw defense contractor stocks get hammered. you saw a lot of pharmaceutical stocks get hammered. you saw a lot of corporate america is the biggest welfare queen out there. without a doubt, hands down. they have taken advantage of our government. think about this. >> brian: you think they got hammered because you know they are about to be held accountable? >> absolutely. the tr trough is going to be drained. if you want to drain the swamp you have to drain the trough. you don't get $1,000 hammers or $500 toilet seats unless someone is making a big huge markup. so that's -- i think that's where a big pivotal point is going to have to come between that -- listen, empty buildings, government buildings, all the unnecessary stuff out there. there is so much -- there is so much out there that can be done almost immediately. >> brian: i can see musk sitting there doing a press conference saying this building is empty. >> charles: right. >> brian: so it's going to be interesting. just know it's not going to be something like simpson-bowles that they ignore even though

least certainly in my mind. i would think and personally i don't know that the middle guy too well warsh i know of his work pretty well. basset, i think, is more establishment. i think hagerty would probably be more in line with what trump is looking for in terms of, listen, he has blown this thing up. these have been the most unorthodox cabinet picks in history. last time he went counsel there he thought he could drain the swamp by picking people in the swamp. you can't do that come with complete outsiders not just thinking but people not beholden. people who may not necessarily believe in that sort of thing. think about all the advisers that he had last time around. really good people. brilliant people a lot of them had this traditional conservative economic orthodoxy that put corporations first and people after corporations. >> brian: i do think steve mnuchin was pretty respected on both sides. on the same page with trade and tariffs. use that as a hedge. he doesn't need a critic from inside.
