very -- 111 votes and i have had one now that i have lost by .3%. i prefer winning it's a lot better. listen, we have done everything. we didn't leave anything on the field. this was a race that nobody thought we should win. nobody thought we could be in. nobody thought they should invest. in we had the least amount of financial investment and we had the most -- the closest race in the country really to winning a seat that people think we didn't win. we did it by talking about real important things, brian. stopping reforming doj. getting the fbi back on track. making sure people could afford groceries again. all of those things worked and that's why we closed the gap. >> congressman, your background and by the way you closed the gap with the republican party in tatters in michigan. you really had to do it yourself. let's talk about the fbi director. worked intelligence. sit down with the president it's confidential. what is your pitch to replace christopher wray?

>> and, of course, he hasn't said is he going to do that yet and those deliberations were ongoing i couldn't talk about those things. the bureau has lost confidence in the american people. >> this is a tragedy. you think of the serious problems we have, brian, with human trafficking. 30,000 people in this country illegally who have been convicted of rape or murder. this is where the fbi should be applying its resources. it should not be engaged in politics. and the culture of the fbi on the sent floor needs to be changed. and that has to have kind after reckoning. you know, can you cure the cancer without killing the patient that's exactly what needs to happen at the fbi with pam bondi who understands how to go after fentanyl problems. who understands how to use the department of justice and produce of these cases. with a functioning fbi that is not focused on politics that is actually focused on crimes that

are happening in neighborhoods that are destroying lives. that's kind of the thing that needs to happen and somebody who has been out there and put bracelets on people and done investigations. from stem to stern. i think that helps you understand how you get agents refocused to their purpose there is a lot of agent that want to get back to work. >> thing if you talk to president trump on or off camera he will say to you i don't want to blanket criticize the fbi. he knows the agents. and there is a huge difference between the agents out in the field, 35,000, and the ones that are in the building. the andy mccabes of the world. that clearly had a huge problem. peter strzok, had a huge problem with trump as president. and we saw with the laptop being dropped off with biden as president. i don't want to go over the mechanics of that. but the fact that there is people at the fbi that would look at a laptop and just keep it quiet until after the election, how do you get rid of a culture that is almost waiting for somebody to challenge it?

>> here's the good news. i know how to challenge and it i know how to refocus. that cultural rot has got to go. any personal animus that somebody would have politically that is still engaged in doing investigations is in the wrong business. you know, the fbi, when i was in the fbi, we didn't have these problems because you never -- i didn't even know the political affiliation with everybody on my organized crime spot. i couldn't tell you. you know, you had some ideas, but nobody talked about it. nobody talked about a president. nobody talked about what that president should or shouldn't be doing. we were focused on what the fbi is supposed to do. listen, that's exactly what the fbi needs. you have to change the culture at the top. you have to get rid of all of these folks, the public integrity unit has been trying to criminalize politics for the last 20 years. that needs to be revamped. all of that has to happen. it has to happen soon. and, again, here's the good news, if agents are will willing to get back to work. there is plenty of places they can go to get back to work and doing the things that made the

fbi the premier law enforcement agency in the world. it can still be that. but, boy, does it need leadership and it needs to clean out the rotted that's happening in the senior levels of the fbi as we watch it happen today. and traveling around the state of michigan, by the way, brian, people have lost faith in the fbi. and they don't even know it. not showing up for a senate hearing, they think, i mean that, uberous is exactly what people are seeing outside that say i have lost faith in the fbi. somebody like me? i can restore that faith. >> brian: what you are referring to is the fact that hhs secretary and christopher wray. head of the fbi decided to blow off a house hearing yesterday and talk about the terror threats in our country and democrats were as angry as republicans. mike rogers is saying that wouldn't happen if he was in charge. mike, great to see you. sorry it didn't work out i hope this works out for you. i think you would do a great job. >> thanks, brian. >> brian: straight ahead, a home athlete series of home break in
