"fox & friends weekend" continues right now. ♪ will: good morning, welcome to "fox & friends," the final 9:00 hour. here in new york city, will cain, rachel campos duffy. we opened day one of the advent character. everybody's talking about the short time between thanksgiving and christmas. rachel: extra short period of time. seems like thanksgiving came late, advent came early. it's getting crunched up and we'll have to jump in and get everything done soon. joey: maybe the shopping part is the most stressful part about it. some people have started. i have not. i'm worried about that a little bit.

i'm worried will everything get here on time, will i put ious in envelopes, which i've done before, print a picture of what i get them and they can have it when it gets here. rachel: have you seen the tree lighting in the studio, a week and-a-half ago, and jesse watters was interviewing people. he went to martha maccallum and she said she was done and everybody groaned. everyone felt bad. will: believe it or not, i started christmas shopping. i started yesterday. i'm the guy that buys gifts the night before but i already started. joey: i started with funny things i saw on instagram, that aren't real gifts. those ads -- you put all the information in your phone and you hit a button, that's tough. somebody else that spends too much money all the time, that would be our government and so now we're going to have a

department of government efficiency, also known as doge, headed by vivek ramaswamy and elon musk. these are some of the things they want to do. they want to reduce federal regulations. love that. shrinking government workforce. that's necessary. and ending federal over-spending, that's the big one right there. we'll see if they are successful at it. will: elon musk and vivek ramaswamy are scheduled this week to begin having meetings across capitol hill. it's going to be -- the recommendations i have complete faith in. i think they'll be able to study, come up with massive amounts of inefficiency and cutbacks available within the federal government. then comes the hard part and that's execution. rachel: right. will: that is what these meetings here on capitol hilly hope to begin to lay the ground work for executing the department of government efficiency. rachel: that's the interesting question. we've had for years, and i talked about this with stuart varney earlier in the show, we've seen senators come out and

create a giant report like this and they'll have the treadmill study and wasteful studies and programs and bridges to nowhere and all this stuff but like they tell us, they get us outraged but we weren't really hearing they were actually cutting these programs or cutting the spending. that's going to be the question here. can they actually execute on this. and will they have the bipartisan support needed to actually cut these programs because everybody hates waitfull spending unless its their pet project. will: it's the nature of government, not just american government but across the world and quasi government bodies like the united nations. we were told, why stop at this country's federal agencies, we need to centralize the understanding of cash flow to and from the u.n. and the results we would like to see from our participation in the international organizations.

unfortunately the mindset over the years prefers to look at outputs over outcomes. how many meetings did we hold, how many pencils did we buy instead of outcomes like was there an town get peace underway more quickly in conflict settings so bringing doge to the united nations. rachel: well, think about this. the u.n. is actually responsible -- we pay the u.n. and the u.n. through their u.n. resettlement project which is a refugee resettlement project, they've been the ones handing out the debit cards with money to all of the illegals who are coming across our border. the u.n. has been funneling money to those countries that are the pipelines for the illegal immigration problem that we have coming through the southern border so make no mistake, if they've got money for that, they've got too much money. joey: talking about the border, talking about the fact that it's such a problem for our country, we just showed you a few minutes ago if you didn't see it, we'll

see it again here, we had the 10-year-old boy, before that a 2-year-old girl, now 5-year-old girl found by texas dps, check this out. [speaking non-english] rachel: initially you can see they're asking her questions. she's reluctant to give an answer because of course she's been coached not to say anything and there's the man who crossed her over the river who is not her father, he is a human

smuggler, a trafficker, and she says i don't know, i don't know. but dps has a photo, shows it to the little girl and she says -- he said that looks like your sweater and she says yeah, that's me. you're right, that's me. you know, these are the things that our border patrol are seeing everyday. i spoke with lieutenant christopher olivarez. i love this guy. he's from the texas department of public say. he has sent us video throughout the year door-this is not the first time. he's been letting for years, since joe biden has been in office, letting us see video captured by texas dps because the border patrol's federal patrol are not permitted to do that by the people in charge there, by alejandro mayorkas, but texas dps has been letting us know what has been happening. >> a trooper located a vehicle the child was smuggled in. if it wasn't for the trooper and

the investigators being there at the right time, there's no telling where this child would have ended up. they were able to find her and arrest the driver who had a previous history of human smuggling. these are the type of people we're dealing with and type of situations we're dealing with every day and i share these videos because i want the american people to see what we work with every day. we had over 200 200,000 missingt the government can't account for. the fact is, they're not responsible, not prioritizing the safety and security of the children but law enforcement every day on the front lines coming across these children and hearing devastating, tragic stories from the children and it needs to be -- it's unacceptable. joey: it's absolutely heart-breaking. it's sad. it's also infuriating. you see the girl's hands there and you want to pick her up and tell her everything will be okay. she should never be in that situation to begin with. you amplify this by hundreds of

thousands. our government refuses to try to track the people that come across the border, do a dna test to see if the person who is bringing them across is who they say they are. it blows your mind that a party that relies so heavily on the idea that the only way to have empathy for people is to let them do this, is to let this happen, that somehow that these things are worth what did he say, having your food picked, that you got to deal with this stuff, you have to put up with this stuff, allow this, in order to get under-the-table labor. i don't believe that's the only deal be made. i know it isn't. will: these videos do two things. three things. they show you the reality of what's happening at the southern border. they give an illustration of the number of which you've been great about reminding us of, 300,000 missing children through the illegal immigration crisis. third, it dismisses the idea that illegal immigration is a partisan talking point.

i think that's largely been internalized. you see movies now, there's been two -- everybody is familiar with "sound of freedom." there's a new one out called "city of dream." these are not partisan or political figures. it's people like tony robins who are behind these movies, telling the story of what's happening that you're seeing a snippet right now this morning on "fox & friends." rachel: i think that's mind-blowing, our government is complicit in it. we are the last leg of the cartels' journey of these humans and especially these children. you talked about dna tests. we will reunite -- that little boy, the 10-year-old boy, we had an 11-year-old a couple years ago that we talk about quite a bit. they're reunited with people that have no dna test. we will use taxpayer money. meanwhile, a mom who puts their kid -- leaves the kid in the car

and runs in and gets a gallon of milk can get arrested and nut jail but there are no consequences for people who put their child in the hands of a cartel, human trafficking operation, where 30% of the girls and 20% of the boys are sexually assaulted along the journey. this is an unbelievable thing that we are actually as a government complicit in, a lot of people looking forward to tom homan taking over and tom homan promising to do what donald trump said he would do, which is to locate and actually create a task force to find the 300,000 children who are missing. kristimiss.will: we're going tw to additional headlines. tomorrow morning closing arguments begin for daniel penny's trial in new york city. we have details on how this trial set a bad pres precedent r new york is. >> we want to help fellow new

there's a huge debate about whether or not die hard is a christmas movie. there's a survey that give us an answer. almost 60% say it's not. it's not a christmas movie. rachel: i have a confession to make. will: you've never seen die hard? [laughter] rachel: i've never seen die hard. what's more stunning that you haven't seen die hard or that i haven't seen it's a wonderful life. rachel: i think it's imminently worse that you've never seen it's a wonderful life. which is by the most american director you can imagine, he captures america as only -- will: john mccain saves everybody at christmas. rachel: what's worse? joey: there's a difference between the point of the movie is christmas and a movie set during christmas. like one that i love to watch at christmas is trading places. rachel: i like that one. joey: i forgot you can't watch that in front of kids. rachel: a lot of those '80s

movies are like that, joey. joey: my son knows more about that movie than he should. it's set during christmas. do you want to call it a chris plays movie? that's not the -- christmas movie? that's not the point of the movie. the same with die hard. there's nothing about christmas or santa claus on the cover. it's bruce willis with a pistol and the building blowing up. rachel: what's worse, joe see, that he didn't watch it's a wonderful life or that i haven't watched die hard. joey: i would say for you, that is not a surprising thing. [laughter] joey: for will, being the character he is, i thought he would have had a good line on classic movies. that one -- it's not just it's a wonderful life. you don't like black and white movies, you don't like old movies, right. will: not too much. you chimed in by the way. i asked what are the best christmas movies since i like the more recent vintage, in the

past 10 years. tony says the best new christmas movie is the best christmas pageant ever. never heard of it. rachel: that's out in the theaters now, i believe. there was an '80s version that was really good. we read the book every year to our kids. have you ever read that? will: no. rachel: it's a great book. it's a great movie. we'll see what the new version is. susan says "a christmas story," the 1983 movie, still rocks. it's probably my favorite of all time. i'm going to confess, i'm one of those people that don't like it. joey: i didn't like it for a long time. they came out with a second one and it's really good. kathy says i agree with rachel, it's a wonderful life is my number one christmas movie. kathy, you know what's up. rachel: it's a wonderful life/white christmas for me. will: darlene will not be intimidated by -- she says die hard, yes, it is a christmas movie. way to stand strong, darlene.

rachel: well as trump and rfk junior are ready for a crackdown on ultra processed foods, the maker of twinkies doesn't appear too concerned. their ceo saying, quote, we believe very strongly that snacking continues, consumers are going to continue to look for a way to reward themselves at different times throughout the day. and only acknowledges that they could, quote, look at reducing

food companies are self-police. it doesn't make sense. we have 10,000 ingredients that aren't allow in european foods. most alarmingly, we subsidize these foods. twinkies should twist. i was on amazon before the show and you can buy them with food stamp dollars. twinkies qualify for federally funded food lunch programs. there's no sugar limits on federally funded school lunches. the usda essentially recommends twinkies for 2-year-olds. the usda right now our guidelines which are very corrupt say that 10% of a 2-year-old's diet can be added sugar so by the letter of the nutrition guidelines, we're actually recommending twinkies to kids so as you say, there's a real optimistic vision here. i think the food industry is not fully understanding what president trump and rfk are saying. they're saying let's get all

stakeholders together, let's have american food be the most nutritious and best flood the world. rachel: when you talk about how it's actually recommended to 2-year-olds, twinkies, explain the corruption that happens to get that twinkie on a list of acceptable foods. by the way, the ingredients, i put the list of ingredients, they're actually chemicals, right? >> i don't think it should be called red 40. it should be called crude oil. that's what it is. let me get to the corruption. as president trump and rfk said, the first step is to get corruption out-of-the-science. the usda, the nutritions guidelines committee, they're able to accept money from nooned pharma companies. they accept money from the industries. 30% of president biden's committee accepted money from glp-1 makers, from ozempic, from

a day fish pharmaceutical company in the n nordics. they infect our guidelines, infect our snap program. before we talk about any policy whatsoever, let's reconstitute the nutritions guidelines committee and say you cannot accept money from food or pharma companies if you're making recommendations for our kids. rachel: makes sense to me. by the way, this week elon musk and vivek ramaswamy are going to capitol hill, they're going to talk about doge, this effort, this new agency that's being created to cut down on expenses. what could cut down on government expenses more than getting people healthy, the number one thing we spend money on is healthcare. >> oh, my gosh. i think the connection between maha and doge is a huge opportunity. elon musk and vivek ramaswamy have been tweeting about this. the biggest part of our budget, the fastest part of the budget is healthcare costs. that's because we're getting sick. it's not the technicalities of policy. we're the sickest country in the

president-elect trump takes office, now president zelenskyy says he would give up areas to rushrussia for nato protection. it's consistent with trump's push to end the war. former u.s. ambassador to nato, kirk volcker served as trump's special representative for ukraine negotiations. he joins us now. thank you for joining us. explain -- i would love to know and all of us want to know, what does nato protections mean because it feels like a lot of this war was promulgated by the idea that ukraine may join nato as the fear russia has of that. >> well, people do have that idea and i have to say that part is wrong. this war was created by vladimir putin because he wants to eliminate ukraine as an independent state. he's written about this. he says it ought to belong to russia. he wants to eliminate any ukrainian sense of identity. what nato does, nato is an organization of countries including the united states but mainly in europe who say that

we're going to stand together. any attack on any of us we're all going to respond. and what that does, it deters anyone from attacking. putin has never attacked a nato country. he's only attacked nearby neighboring countries like ukraine or georgia. what ukraine is now saying is okay, we know we're not going to get the territory back militarily right now. we'll have a long-term dispute and divided country like germany was for many years after world war ii but if we can get the majority of ukraine into nato and safe, that will prevent future wars and that's what they're talking about. joey: so i want to make it clear. you say into nato. so the deal could be that ukraine joins nato in order to end this war, is that what you're saying or what this is looking like? >> i think what president trump is going to push for is an end to the war now. he's going to tell president putin you just stop. ukraine is already ready to stop. they didn't start this war. they don't seek this war. so i think you can end it.

the question then for president trump and his team is how do you turn that into a permanent peace so that putin doesn't just strike again. and that is where nato membership comes in. it can deter putin from launching further attacks. joey: outside of nato membership, what other incentives are there to get russia -- if russia just gets the territory they say they're entitled to or have taken and zelenskyy doesn't want to push back on that, what else can be done outside of including ukraine into nato to deter that from happening again or to take russia's -- maybe their want to away. >> well, russia's never going to be satisfied. putin's never going to be satisfied. they want to take over all of ukraine. but they can be stopped. and i think that's what we're talking about here, is how do you stop the war and how do you prevent the next war. other things that might be useful on the table, one of them is increasing american energy production and exports just as president trump is talking about

because that will drive down global prices and that will starve putin's budget, some of the resources he's useing to attack ukraine. another thing is that after ukraine is in nato and the european union, you can agree to lift sanctions on russia. there's pretty tough sanctions right now. russia has an interest in getting out from those. you don't want to do that until you stopped the war and things are safe again. >> no matter how feel about ukraine joining nato, most americans want to see the war end, not just because we're spending money on it but because people are losing their lives. we want to sea see peace in the world. i think president trump is putting a team together to make that happen. thank you so much for joining us today. >> it's a pleasure, thank you. joey: yes, sir. trump making another major threat against our foreign rivals, which countries could get slapped with 100% tariffs, next. my dad believed in hard work, and the farm was the perfect place to learn grit, determination and problem solving.
