>> hello everyone i'm julie along with lisa boothe charlie hurt and tom shillue welcome to the big weekend show the big story tonight president-elect donald trump is preparing for major confirmation fight right now. that he hases full team to dismantle the deep state. the left is freaking out over his decision to replace fbi director chris ray with kash patel. >> patel is a maga loyalist lacking serious experience in federal law enforcement. but then why should that stop him? he's obsessed with the so-called deep state that doesn't even exist. the kash patel one an agent of the president elect's retribution agenda. >> presidents don't do this coming in because of the fact that the fbi is supposed to be apolitical. start investigations simply to sort of whitewash trump's involvement with insightment illegalities. what will weaponize the fbi. >> but in case you forgot here's a reminder of everything that's
4:02 pm
happened since trump left office. now just hours ago, we learned more about just how petty attorney general america garland is that he would sending federal agents into the home of a former president likely 2024 candidate over a document dispute. >> the 45th president of the united states deleting 2024 candidate donald j. trump has now been indicted by joe biden's department of justice. >> outrage pouring in after metaceo revealing pressured company to sensor americans during the covid pandemic and he says he regrets bowing down to the demands of the white house. he says when facebook didn't agree biden administration expressed frustration. >> chaos in virginia the last school board meeting resulting two people arrested and meeting ending and people worrying their

voices could be stifled if there's concerns about indoctrine their children with a woke ationd. now patel has been tapped to lead the fbi. watch this. >> i would shut down the fbi hoover building on day one. and reopening the next day -- as a museum of the deep state same thing with doj bringing in the right people you have to shrink government. people need to know there's a deweaponization of the department of justice and that in my opinion is how congress can most importantly secure the trust or resecure the trust of the agencies and departments. >> we have team coverage tonight madeleine rivera is live at white house but first we're going get to live to west palm beach florida where mark meredith travels with the president. hi, mark. >> julie good evening to you president-elect trump excuse me, president-elect trump is repeatedly criticized the fbi saying they are corrupt and full of political malpractice now he's hoping that his new nominee to head the bureau will be able
4:04 pm
to overhaul the nation's premier law enforcement agency. now kash patel and trump go back a ways and somebody served as a public defender, a staffer on the house intelligence committee, and chief of staff once at the department of defense. patel is repeatedly said if he got to the top post he would root out the deep state over the years called for dramatically reducing the fbi foot precinct and limiting its authority which he says has been widely abused we heard from house speak or mike johnson among those praising patel saying he has extensive experience at intelligence and he's an american first patriot who will bring much needed change in transparency to the fbi. tonight some republicans senators are also cheering on the pick. >> i think kash does have relevant experience particularly with the mandate signed turning agencies around with completely corrupted. kash pointed out he's probably best uncovering what's happened with the fbi and i look forward to seeing him taking it apart. it is unclear if christopher
4:05 pm
wray the current fbi director will resign before trump comes to washington or if a way to be terminated the fbi sent out a statement last night saying ray remains focused on his job one person who is excited for change in leadership iowa republican chuck grassley he wrote, ray is failed at a fundamental duties of the fbi director and he showed disdain for discretionary oversight and time to chart a course for transparency and patel must prove to reform and restore public trust in the fbi. a lot of different reaction coming in to this nomination, as for the president-elect, he spent much of his weekend at his golf club we didn't see him on camera except for the motorcade back and forth and he did announce nominations head up the dea as well as a new mitd east advisory who also happens to be the father-in-law of trump's daughter tiffany. julie. >> mark meredith thank you very much on more how preparing for the battle against to madeleine rivera live at the white house tonight.

hi madeleine. reporter: senate republican early support for kash patel a lot of democrats are promising to oppose him. i will organize them to see what's happening here. kash patel only qualification because he agree requests donald trump that the department of justice should serve to punish lockup, and intimidate donald trump's political opponents so the cost of the american public is pretty simple. the department of justice and the fbi is supposed to be there to go after gun traffickers and finance and department of justice is serving political interests. >> patel needs a simple majority to be confirmed his nomination make it is to the full senate. republicans hold a 53-47 majority so patel can only afford 3 provided that all democrats stick together in
4:07 pm
rejecting him. the white house has not commented directly on patel nomination as fbi director but national security advisor jake sullivan did speak about the biden administration approach to the role. >> current fbi director chris ray was actually appointed by donald trump joe biden fire him. he relied upon him to execute his responsibilities as the director of the fbi, and allowed thoil serve out fullness of his term over the course of the biden administration. so that's how reproch things, and we would like to ensure that the fbi remains an independent institution insulated from politics. president biden meantime could be with the last international trip of his presidency. julie. >> thank you very much. all right so -- patel is, obviously, gotten a lot of praise from conservatives. over the fact that he wants to completely overhaul the fbi. and that's going to be possibly an issue i don't know when it comes to senate confirmation
4:08 pm
hearings because -- the whole maga, you know -- hasn't helped when it comes to senate confirmation hearing how do you think this process will go when it comes to patel? >> i think donald trump deserves to have people surrounding him. i think there are going to be weak kneed republicans we've seen senator mike rounds say christopher wray is a good guy and mike rounds is a senator in south dakota a state that donald trump won with over 63.of the vote. so if you want to primary someone look at him for 2026. christopher wray is not a good guy i love this laughable talking point now that somehow the fbi shouldn't be engaged in the weaponization of government or should be some sort of apolitical body when is the last time it's been. look at what christopher wray has done and personally targeted kash patel. he also created a whole new division within the fbi to target january 6ers including nonviolent, you know,
4:09 pm
grandmothers he's targeted grandmothers over the face act this is someone who targeted catholic churches you remember that fbi memo saying that catholic churches are, you know, breeding grounds for terrorism as well. targeted parents at school board meetings as well. the list goes on and on so christopher wray is not good guy but corrupt and tried to sow doubt saying that donald trump could have been a bullet maybe it was shrapnel and saying it was a bullet so christopher wray is a very bad guy he needs to get out of there and kash patel is not a threat to democracy but bureaucracy. >> but this one in particular, obviously, everybody is freaking out about -- a cnn senior reporter said kash patel an agent of the agenda and goes on to say presidents don't do this coming in because of the fact that the fbi is supposed to be apolitical.
4:10 pm
have you ever heard of james comey that name ring a bell but saying that this is any different than any -- previous pick? >> and as lisa points out whole point of this is to end retribution inside the fbi. and but i also love the idea that you have all of these people in the press who were having vapors about this. saying that, you know, oh, my goodness he's maga. and he subscribes to donald trump's agenda yeah. that's why we have elections. the whole poifnght election is so that we elect a president who gets to hire people who share his world view and it is not like donald trump started talking about this in the last ten minutes but this is years and especially over the past year during the campaign. we've heard donald trump talking about this issue of weaponization inside a doj inside the fbi, and his drier to clean it out. and so we had the election. he won with those arguments, so
4:11 pm
surprise, surprise that's exactly what's going to happen. >> right. democrat congressman jamie claims he hasn't seen proof that the fbi has been weaponized against a political party just watch this. >> i haven't seen what the proof is that the fbi has been weaponized against a political party or the department of justice. i think that's what they mean when they talk about politicization in the deep state. the deep state nobody has ever defined it apparently just means anybody who doesn't do the will. of donald trump -- >> so tom does that mean that there was no weaponization when it came to trying to loop trump with russia and having him the whole russia hoax? >> there we go. is that not weapon dismaition >> i made agree with jamie on this that there's no evidence that -- that the deep state has been against republicans or in thes they're against trump. they're against maga and what is the most bipartisan organization in the united states? the deep state that's why
4:12 pm
they're all going on here. that's why you have republicans agrees with democrats they don't want kash patel in that position you have michael steele and john bolton and then a hand l of democrats why agrees because they're part of the deep state that's what kash patel is going after and we played a clip that was a brilliant thing he said he wanted to empty the building turn into a museum. of the deep state, but then he went on to say after that, and i want all of those employees we're going keep those employees get them out of the building and tell them to go out in -- in the highways and byways of america and start arresting bad people. that's what the fbi is supposed to do. >> actually go forward with that museum i suggest a wax museum so he can't talk and just be there. >> that's what it is like now. it is like a museum so idea he says let's get back to business to getting bad people that's what the fbi is supposed to do. i don't remember doing that recently but i don't know. >> other thing that really kind of drives me crazy i get people
4:13 pm
like jamie don't like this because, of course, the deep state you know he represents the deep state. literally and figuratively but members of the press. you're supposed to be like questioning the government. and they're just shocked at the idea that someone would be suspicious that the government is up to no good. that's the whole point of being a reporter in the first place. you're supposed to hold, you know, accountable people in power. but they don't care. >> part of the reason kash is drawn from christopher wray because he authored of the muñiz memo that house intelligence committee put out in 2018 calling foul on the fbi and department of justice weaponization against carter page. we have to move on coming up on "the big weekend show" is it the end of the world as we know it amazon alexa is predicting doomsday might be closer than we think. plus this. russia right so it is like who is making these decisions? i guess he's i assume he's aware of making decision about hunter biden this might be only decision he's aware of. >> but i don't think listen -- people when you talked about this before, and you said, you know, we discussed this. when he promised he wouldn't pardon his son -- we talked about it and most people agreed well we know he's lying and then when you talk to people about it he said he's probably lying an you asked should he pardon his son yeah it is his son he has power to do it he will. so i think basically there won't be any -- there won't be any hill to pay for this that -- do you agree? most people will say well that's what i would have done. >> one of many lies. you know administration and everyone around him including kamala harris we're lying about his cognitive state why wouldn't he lie about pardoning his son and admit that he thought he was going to get reelected and never thought an issue. like you lie until you get caught and realize you have to tell the truth because you have no choice at this point he's not nothing to lose. >> he lies about weird things
4:44 pm
why not lie about this. like top of the class -- he was bottom but like a civil rights leader -- >> truck driver, in a motorcycle gang -- >> what's trump going say about this? are we awaiting the tweet? >> what do you think he's going to say, i mean -- this is going to be the interesting point. >> he lied about being a truck driver. all right stick with us. we are going to be looking for trump tweets. stick with us we're going to have more on this breaking news and others news from the white house -- after this. christians and j ews, and this hanukkah holiday is of urgent importance. this is our last chance to help thousands of holocaust survivors who are suffering today. have you eaten this morning? i ate the carrot, so i ate half of it yesterday, and this is what she ate in two days. please pray for me!

4:49 pm
this is comes what weeks before -- his sentencing was supposed to be on december 12th on federal gun charges something that there are people that are sitting in jail for today for less. >> this actually sets a very bad precedent honestly and this is goes much deeper you know people are going to wonder why is it such a big deal, of course, president of the united states is going to -- going to pardon their son. on criminal charges, of course, he is. but that's not the point the message under this is much bigger and it is a much broader problem. it is the gun problem, and the gun control problem the democrats have been -- arguing against for year and years now makes you wonder well what is it okay to have a gun if you're the -- son of a president and you have a drug wrap sheet or is it okay to get a gun permit as well? where were the background checks? that is such a hypocritical stance from that administration and goes to show and we just aired video of the president
4:50 pm
formally saying that he would not he went on the record and spoke to the american people on camera. saying that he would not ever pardon his son and here he is on the door out of the white house. he never thought that he would see himself in that position because he thought she would get reelected here we are talking about not only lied to but they have set a dangerous precedent like charlie just mentioned about all of the inmates that are -- in prison right now who did the same even less. and they're serving time behind bars and it is okay for the president son to do that and walk away free this is big news this week. >> so he was facing sentencing on december 12 t for the federal gun charges on december 16th he was facing sentencing for federal tax evasion. and as we talked about earlier this is not even all the charges that he could have been charged with on the tax evasion. >> well right we have whistle-blowers step forward and say that they were thwarted in the process of trying to dig in especially on the burisma money as well. that government officials
4:51 pm
allowed that to lapse the statute of limitations couldn't go after that and thwarted in hi trail that brought them to joe biden as well. but i think this also kind of digs then and speaks that conservatives have been feeling for a long time. you know, you look at hunter biden getting sort of the sweet heart treatment with that sweet heart deal and then you look at what donald trump has been through. right with a multiple federal indictments and different parts of the country. also with what he faced here in new york city, as well and we even get to the, you know, classified documents. as well -- and donald trump had his house raided over that mar-a-lago and find out that joe biden has had classified documents he's had them since his time as united states senator. and then the 1970s knew he had them and told his ghost writer bragged about it and yet nothing for him. right? >> classified documents that were in his home in delaware that is a home where hunter biden stayed so hunter biden
4:52 pm
could have access to classified documents that is another thing that is disturbing questions will be hidden forever on that as far as what hunter biden knew or see and did not see. in all of that, so you've got the classified documents yes, and then we've been talking about the fbi and corruption there, you just brought up the mar-a-lago raids, the fbi, in fact, was a part of that huge part of that. and now the, you know, mainstream media this week is going to be focusing so much on kash patel and upend the fbi and now this president make an argument that former president trump wasn't politicized when he, in fact, got his mar-a-lago property raided by the fbi. but here we have hunter biden pardoned by the president by much bigger crimes. >> we have chief correspondent shannon bream joins us by phone. hey, shannon. >> hi charlie big news for your sunday night. >> it is big news were you surprised by this? >> you know what, part of the me
4:53 pm
yes and no we all pressed the white house many time use see peter doocy and jackie heinrich all of us asking every different way would there be a pardon and repeatedly being told no it absolutely will not happen but there was this part of me if you're outgoing president of the united states you have a power to spare your son you're going to do it. i think a lot of american people will understand what you've done as a father. i think it is very interesting the wording we have from this released from the white house -- it is as a full and unconditional pardon for offenses against u.s. which he's committed meaning hunter biden or may have and taken part in fact period from january 14th through december 24th including but not limited to all of the offenses charged or prosecuted by special con sill so this is beyond the two cases. this is saying there's anything else in that period, for
4:54 pm
essentially ten years, i as president joe biden am giving a full pardon for thengs that may not have been charged yet and may still be out there so i think -- >> a fascinating point. >> on a legal, you know, speaking technically, the difference between a commutation and a pardon. and then how this -- how that applies to this full pardon. >> yeah this full pardon, i mean, that write it is out as if the person was never guilty and they were never, you know, tagged with this crime with this result. it didn't happen. commutation may have served part of the witness and wipe out part of the sentence and doesn't get rid of the overlying plea deal. so they are different and this one is more expandive in that respect and remember, i mean, this release from the white house from the president talks about the fact that they believe he was politically prosecuted.
4:55 pm
but remember as that deal came together that then fell apart when a judge a federal judge started scwg questions remember we heard from the irs whistle-blowers which you guys have mentioned aye interviewed them and interviewed joseph ziglar who talked about not a conservative guy but he was watching these cases unfold and essentially our handle were tied we couldn't get to certain evidence we couldn't talk to certain people. and you know, he felt burdened enough as an irs investigative agent that he wanted to come forward so day this deal is not legitimate. >> shannon lisa boothe here you mentioned that this pardon is much broader than just the time period for the gun charges and the tax charges as well. what does that signal to you and looking at this as, you know, potential further guilt of hunt or biden and what he did? >> the president deciding to switch the messaging we got from the white house which was no pardon no commutation and for this son he won't have the power in a few weeks and he wanted to
4:56 pm
step forward do this for his son and expect many of the american people are going to understand a father doing that and he goes beyond cases he was awaiting sentencing in. not indicating that there was anything else to be charged with but deciding he was going to take this step he wanted to make it as broad as possible to give as of protection to hunter as possible. for that time period that probably links up with when he, you know, prior to last five and a half years or so that he's been sober but he was struggling with addiction, and the president has always tried to protect him saying people make bad decisions in their adetections and cleaned up his life, and i think the president wanted to issue as much possible protection for him as broadly as he could before he leaves office. >> do you have a theory as to why usually we get pardons like midnight on january 19th and there's like a raft of them they get all of the embarrassing ones in there as well as -- the more defensible ones. and as you point out this one
4:57 pm
will -- be perhaps easier to defend because you're talking about a guy's son, but also not exactly a political high point for joe biden but i wonder why he would do it, you know, a month and a half before he leaves office. >> you know, well you're coming off of a holiday weekend a lot of people may be traveling. maybe not paying attention, you know you drop it on a sngd night it is certain to make headlines on monday morning but our news cycles go quickly what will be the headline by monday night before you get to the traditional evening watchers although we have news 24 hours day on fox news for you it may have been that. maybe there was some family discussion over this thanksgiving weekend and a real heart to heart and a real soul searching by president biden also he's getting ahead of sentencing because those were coming and i had thought listen, if hunter biden gets some jail time adesigned to these convictions, maybe thing the president would say okay i'm not going to let my son go to jail.
4:58 pm
but there's something about doing this ahead of the sentencing that you know will wipe him out so we don't have to find out whether hunter biden but a matter of fines, probation or whether there would have been jail time that also came with these sentencings. he's the president is getting ahead of that. >> for those of you whom that are just joining us now i want to update you on the situation here. this is breaking news coming out of washington. according to nbc, president biden will be signing a pardon for his son hunter which essentially means no jail time whatsoever for him and gets off scott free we have shannon bream on the phone and it to talk about charges and charges he's getting off on on december 12th scheduled to be sentenced on federal gun charges also set to be sentenced on december 16th after pleading guilty in september, on federal tax evasion charges. he pled guilty to those charges. so that was a deal that he, obviously, tried to plea out on by pleading guilty he was hoping
4:59 pm
for a lesser sentence if, in fact, he were to be sentenced. let's say hypothetically this pardon didn't happen what kind of jail time do you think he could face? >> you know there were many scept ticks out there including, you know, people who are -- you know, right offender including former prosecutor who is said listen, these cases are not ones that i would have brought. this guy is -- other who is lie on gun forms that doesn't get prosecuted so there was a sense among a lot of people that includes trey who was a long time federal prosecutor who said, you know, i'm not sure those would have been considered a first time offender so he has expressed real doubt that there would have been serious jail time and when you look at two cases it is not just a situation of -- of him being a first time offender because of you have two separate charges that had guilt for him those could have
5:00 pm
piggybacked into thing bigger and tbhoax thought as a first time offender not a serious amount of the jail time if any. >> shannon we've got a statement from president biden -- saying today i signed a pardon for my son hunter alleging that the prosecution is politically motivated a miscarriage of justice and charges came about only after several of my political opponents in congress investigated them to attack me and oppose my election. no reasonable person who looks at the facts of hunters case can reach any own conclusion that he was singled out only because he's my son. i hope americans will understand why a father and a president would come to this decision. biden added claiming he made the decision this weekend he and family are spending thanksgiving holiday in nantucket massachusetts with the entire family as you pointed out julia they were clearly a family discussion or maybe you said that shannon that this was a -- a family discussion over
