8:00 in los angeles and this is america's late news, "fox news @ night". breaking tonight, we now have mysterious drone sightings across at least eight states. officially expanding now from coast-to-coast. as residents in southern california now report car sized drones in disguise. one of the residents will join us live in moments. sources say they began flying around california before expanding across the county which is home to seven military bases. meantime officials at a navy weapon station in new jersey also reporting multiple unidentified drones and -- entering their airspace yet the administration says don't believe your eyes. >> it is possible that some of these things could be commercial drones. >> it is very common for individuals who think they see drones to actually see small aircraft. >> trace: wait, airplanes? you are totally safe? just don't look up?

john kirby to task because we need to hold them accountable for their lack of education and awareness on drone technology. it's a disservice to the american people. even if this is nothing, we are vulnerable. the enemy is paying attention and we are no longer the greatest technological power in the world when it comes to drone technology. our military used to dominate the drone airspace. now we can't even tell what's going on out there and our government clearly does not know what they are doing. the only verifiable fact is that. there's this lack of adequate response to these drone sightings that's allowing misinformation to spread. everything now is a potential drone in new jersey and they are the ones to blame for the hysteria up because you have multiple government officials from congressman to local mayors saying different things. we need to do something about it. >> trace: to you now billy, you said you spotted drones. what do you make of them downplaying this? >> yeah well yesterday i saw clusters of about ten drones.

some hovering and some going pretty fast around our area. what we see over seas, these can be used as weapons, so i agree, i think there needs to be some sort of information sent to new jersey residents about what's really going on here. i do think they could be military but if they are not, i think we need to be educated on the issue. >> trace: that's the whole point, you know, you look at this, and i'm going to put this map up on the screen because these are the states where we have seen sightings, there are eight. i know you are in southern california at dale but it's interesting because it maybe a lot of things but we are getting very little information and that is what is so frustrating. talk about where you are and what you saw. >> i'm in temecula, california, halfway between san diego and los angeles. what i saw a couple nights ago was actually a definite drone. i saw one as i was leaving my

house. i wasn't expecting to see it. it was like 150 feet above. it looked to be about 3 feet or bigger and it was illuminated by a playground from an elementary school so i had a clear view of it. later on that evening -- excuse me. >> trace: no, no i'm just saying because honest-to-goodness, you look at some of this stuff, that's about the clearest picture i have seen of these drones. they look like dots in the distance. i've been complaining all week that google can get a shot of your outdoor furniture from space and we can't get a good shot of these drones anywhere. brett velicovich, to you, larry hogan, the former governor of maryland, says he went out and saw a bunch of drones above his house. he took some pictures and here's some of the video. but i mean come on. he's seeing them and no one is saying he's crazy. >> what's most concerning to me, i'm realizing from the situation is that more than ever law enforcement agencies don't know the rules of engagement for being able to down these drones

over the u.s. and that's a larger problem. no one knows who's in charge, no one knows what the proper authorities are. to pieniniemi administration just came out and said they are not even sure they are allowed to shoot them down because of the different laws. there's no push within higher echelons of government to keep up with this modern-day threat. our infrastructure right now is not designed to counter these technologies. we have the technical capacity to monitor and bring them down, we just have a lot of arrogant people in various levels of government that think they understand what they are doing and they are not doing anything necessary. these drones are not undetectable. it's easy to figure it out with the right experts. >> trace: secretary mayorkas said the following, watch. >> let me call him the nerves. we have not seen anything unusual -- called the nerves -- we have not seen any unusual activity. we know of no threat, we know of no nefarious activity. >> trace: i don't know, a lot of people think they've seen some very unusual things over the past month.
