possible sighting in california, massachusetts and near quantico in virginia. this as new jersey officials are asking for more federal resources to spot the mysterious activity. we're monitoring an upcoming press conference in the garden state and we'll take you there live when it happens. welcome to fox news live, i'm griff jenkins, alicia, great to be with you. alicia: i'm alicia acuna. we'll have more on the drone sightings in a moment. president-elect trump is expected to attend the army-navy game. and also with some of his cabinet picks and ron desantis in maryland. >> hi alicia, this will be an interesting dynamic to watch since multiple sources tell fox that president-elect trump was considering replacing hegseth

from the game's sponsor, and leaders from the academies and one thing that's recognized from everyone that we talked to is the character of these let's. not only representing the academy on the field, but they'll all go on to serve our country. the way we approach our business, the way we play shall with just a toughness, a tenacity, a discipline that reflects the men and women who put themselves in harm's way it's a great segue into the next phase of their life. >> about three hours until kickoff. army has won the majority of the army-navy games this past decade, but we'll see today. alicia: we'll be following this all day and the leadup. thanks. griff. griff: thank you, alicia. major questions over the mysterious drone sights over new jersey and other states across the country and continue into the weekend as
9:04 am
president-elect trump says shooting them down and any suggesting that officials know more than what they're saying. cb cotton with the latest. >> hi, griff. the unexplained drone sightings expanded from coast to coast, but the epicenter was here in new jersey and while everyone refers to the bright, floating lights as drones. no one has confirmed that and as you mentioned, president-elect donald trump has suggested that the federal government knows more than it's letting on. he wrote on truth social, quote, mystery drone sightings all over the country. can this really be happening without our government's knowledge? i don't think so. let the public know and now, otherwise shoot them down. the sightings first began the week-- the sightings first began the week before thanksgiving in northern new jersey near president trump's bedminster golf club and since crossed
9:05 am
into connecticut, new york, and pennsylvania. sometimes over areas with sensitive military bases and national security facilities. the white house and fbi claim many of the drone sightings are manned aircraft like airplanes or helicopters operating lawfully and a drone expert tells fox news, that's what he thinks, too. >> i have looked at hundreds of videos at this point, every one of those is an airplane. anything you see, like an airplane, can suddenly appear to your eyes as if it's standing still and not moving, but it's really going hundreds of miles an hour. >> state and local officials have said the sightings don't pose a threat, but that's done level to calm nerves as the same officials call on the federal government to share more information with residents who insist their eyes are not lying to them. >> no doubt whatsoever. i've shown it to other people, my wife was home last night and she saw the video and there's
9:06 am
no doubt they're drones. they're not planes. >> now, people have created a facebook group about the drone sightings, as of this morning, that group has nearly 50,000 members and griff, this morning, new york governor kathy hochul announced at an airport about 60 miles north of manhattan, the runways had to be shut down for an hour because of drone reports. back to you. griff: she's upset, as she should be and so is maryland's former governor who apparently saw one, it's just unbelievable. cb cotton, thank you for that. we're going to cover any updates we get on the live stuff. thank you. alicia: thanks, griff. we'll continue this conversation and right now bring in republican new jersey senator, douglas steinhardt and former navy commander and former police detective rogers. gentlemen, thanks for being here. and senator first, picking up with what cb cotton reported
9:07 am
on, the runway had to be shut down for an hour and the governor on it. >> there's no new information at all and i think all of this highlights one of the biggest problems here, it's a lack of federal regulation to keep up with evolving drone technology, the conflicting stories that highlights the weak and feckless response by the federal government. they have sole jurisdiction over the skies and can't seem to come up with a cohesive answer or a singular plan how to address it. molly: you know, steve, a democratic congressman out of new jersey had an idea about this, take a listen. >> i'm also urging federal law enforcement agencies, which are led by the phish and the dhs, to allow state and local law enforcement to deploy assets that can safely take down drones, that shouldn't be in the air right now. the technology exists to be able to do this.
9:08 am
molly: . alicia: steve, he's saying the technology is there to take these things down and nothing is done. do you think that's a good idea. >> a few things, in all of my years working with military intelligence, i can assure you we have the most sophisticated intelligence gathering apparatus on the earth, land, sea, air and space. the fact of the matter is i believe our government knows the who, what, where and why of the drones and for whatever reason are not sharing with us. with regard to shooting them down, look, i've got to tell you if people are feeling threatened and our government is not responding, the only people who should be shooting them down is our military. that's when our military has to get involved. short of that i wouldn't recommend and i don't think that anybody would want to recommend people take it into their own hands, that's when innocent people get hurt. i believe these are american assets tested for whatever reason, if they were foreign assets, believe me, we would know about it now. alicia: you know, senator steinhardt, the footprint in the sky for lack of a better
9:09 am
word, is increasing and as is the former governor of maryland, governor larry hogan. he saw about a dozen in his area and he issued a statement on x that reads the government has the ability to track these from their point of origin, but has mounted a negligent response. people are rightfully clamoring for answers, but aren't getting any. that response is entirely unacceptable. and the question is, how much longer can folks take this? because to steve's point, it's not safe to shoot these things down, but the frustration is getting to a boiling point. >> well, and unfortunately, what that breeds, right, is conspiracy theories, it breeds misinformation and god forbid, it forces people to think they need to take action in their own hands and to steve's point, that's when problems start to happen and people start to get hurt. every american should be insulted by the federal government's refusal to give a
9:10 am
straight answer, if it takes some sort of definitive action. these inconsistent statements of others questioning the folks at the naval war, weapons station earl, the picatinny arsenal had at many as 13 confirmed drone intrusions in their restricted air space and the new york police to confront them and they go dark in the night. and they're calling for action and it's long, long overdue. alicia: here is what john kirby had to say on thursday about this, listen. >> using very sophisticated electronic detection technologies provided by federal authorities, we have not been able to, and neither have state or local law enforcement authorities corroborate any of the reported visual sightings. to the contrary upon review of available imagery it appears that many of the reported
9:11 am
sightings are manned aircraft operated lawfully. alicia: okay, steve, so we're hearing -- we know what it's not, but then this could be manned aircraft? i don't know about you, but that does not bring me any comfort. >> look, i don't believe one bit of what he said, i really don't. af i've been in the military, and you talk to the people in the intelligence community and they know what's going on here. and phil murphy said we don't know much, don't worry about it, it's not a threat. how does he know that unless he's given information that we didn't. how in the world did he know that? >> senator, i saw you shaking your head. i've got to give you a chance to respond. >> it's frustrating and insulting to actual u.s. military spokes people at the naval weapons station, at picatinny arsenal, the kocolone of the state police, qualified military people and
9:12 am
contravention of certified statements of reputable individuals. alicia: okay, we'll continue to follow this because it feels like every single day it's another location, another state and more people, officials, very frustrated. senator douglas steinhardt and steve rogers, we thank you for your time. thank you, and senator, thank you for being a good guy and stpg up stepping up for the people. >> and you as well, steve. appreciate it. >> what i heard from the incoming head of ice is that we have the same desire to go after those who committed violent acts, repeated violent acts among innocent new yorkers and among migrants and asylum seekers. >> as of yesterday, he's all in. griff: incoming border czar tom homan and mayor eric adams have the same goals on the crisis.
9:13 am
they're looking at those protecting those migrants. let' bring in the man in the middle of the fight. the lone san diego county supervisor to vote no on furthering sanctuary city policies. jim desmond. jim, when you messaged me earlier this week that this was going to take place, i was in disbelief because what it appears has happened is that not you, because the vote was 3-1, but the other county supervisors voted to protect the illegal criminal migrants from deportation. is that the case? are they placing a priority on the interests of criminal migrants over public safety? >> well, what they're doing is they're putting in another bureaucratic layer hindering local law enforcement from being able to engage directly with ice and let ice know, hey, we've got this criminal, this
9:14 am
person in our jail that has committed a crime. they've been tried, they're here in jail, they're here illegally and right now, we have had, i'm sorry in the past, about of this passed, we had direct access to ice, we could pick them up. pick up the phone give them a call let them know, hey, this person is in our custody and/or this person is about to be let out of jail what my colleagues did put in another layer of bureaucracy that hinders law enforcement from directly working with ice by making now the requirement is going to be that we get a federal or state warrant to be able to contact ice and before we had the direct access and now we have to go through some judge and who knows which way this judge is leaning. we need to clean up our streets and keep our communities safe and by this action it makes us less safe and a bigger potential of these people just let out onto our streets in san diego county and making them less safe. griff: jim, why would your colleagues do that? >> i don't know.
9:15 am
now, you've got to ask them. you know, the reasons some of the people that were, you know, for this effort they're saying you're breaking up families, you know, and people will be less likely to report crimes. this is about people that are already in jail in san diego county. they're already in jail and they've already been tried and committed for these crimes. this has got nothing to do with breaking up families. criminal should have thought about that, they're the ones breaking up families. instead of blaming the criminal for the acts they're doing they're pointing the finger elsewhere and these people, if they do get out of jail, and they go back into the communities, it's going to most likely be in the immigrant communities and they're going to hurt them the most. griff: yeah, that's the demographic that faces the greatest threat. i want to play just a little bit more of the new york city mayor eric adams after his meeting with tom homan because he seems to get something that your fellow supervisors don't.
9:16 am
listen here. >> we are going to protect the rights of immigrants in the city that are hard working, giving back to the city in a real way. we're not going to be a safe haven for those who commit repeated violent crimes against innocent migrants, immigrants, and longstanding new yorkers. griff: so, there's an element of common sense to that statement there from mayor adams, who of course, has to protect the rights of all the people he's in charge of governing. why doesn't san diego county understand that line? >> well, the east coast is getting it, but the west coast is much slower coming along. even in the election, the rest of the country got it, that you know, people are fed up with the way the immigration status has been happening, with the open borders. unfortunately, my colleagues, you know, i think this is more in retaliation and you know, our governor even, newsom,
9:17 am
wants to trump prove california so my colleagues all three democrats voted for this. i think, you know, going along in that same effort. and we're the door mat for the border here in san diego county. we've had over 155,000 people just dropped into our streets. boats pulling up onto the beaches and dozens of people jumping out and running into our neighborhoods. we should be making our streets safer not less safe. griff: i know it and i've seen it up close and personal, particularly in places like acumba getting people from all over the globe. and lastly, i think this is important, where is san diego's sheriff on this, what does she say? >> well, the sheriff, thankfully said she's not going to enforce the new policy that was put forward by my colleagues. however, there's already a group out there that has threatened to sue and see how this plays out.
9:18 am
my supervisors could-- my colleagues could retaliate with taking or withdrawing funds or money from the sheriff. so, this still has to be played out. i'm glad the sheriff has stepped up and said no, but legal action and other actions are yet to come. griff: well, we will continue to follow it and, jim, please give us any updates as it unholds. jim desmond, san diego county supervisor. have a great weekend. >> thanks, griff. alicia: and a bird strike disabled an engine on an american airlines jetliner shortly after takeoff from new york's laguardia airport. the pilot was force today land at jfk airport. no injuries were reported. the federal aviation administration says bird strikes are increasing, but it's unusual that the aircraft is forced to make an emergency landing, griff. griff: well, a democratic governor is slamming president biden's xhucation for a former judge involved in a kids or cash scandal. we've got more on that next.

9:32 am
trying to keep the hands of the weapons out of the hands of the rebels. and hit an area strike this week. >> we came to the one of the locations that the israelis struck outside of the capital of damascus, this appears to be a research and production facility. when you look at some of the documents that are here in english, you can see drones and other information about rockets that the syrians were researching to produce. there's a diagram of a drone and if you look at just some of the words on this, it says, rocket booster right there, and then it goes through the different types of launchers for rockets, engine tests, here is a list of material that you need to build these drones and those rockets and another diagram of a drone. this is an indication that the israelis had intelligence about
9:33 am
what exactly they were hitting here in syria. they don't want this information and these production facilities to fall into the hands of hts. >> one interesting note here, we've talked about a number of hts fighters and officials here in the capital of damascus and they expressed no interest of war with israel. while the assad regime was prepared to be an ally with the iranian regime and attack israel, we've not seen that from the new leadership here in damascus and certainly, these he unpredictable days, but there's a sliver of hope for this part of the region. alicia: trey yingst again and his team with the inside look. griff: great reporting indeed. thanks, alicia. for more on what's next for syria joining us live is mccain institute and former secretary of defense, evelyn farkus. picking up where trey left off, it's notable that this
9:34 am
opposition group, hts, doesn't seem to be indicating any desire to further escalate in israel. what do you make of what's happening in the region overall? >> yeah, i mean, griff, it's a huge blow to iran, clearly. because iran had counted on syria to help it exert influence over lebanon and then to continue to put pressure on israel. so, this is a real win for israel. a loss for iran, and then the other loser in this equation is russia, while the iranians through the hezbollah fighters, their proxies, with basically fighting as an army during the long civil war that started in 2012, the russians were providing the air force and in the most recent surprising event that we saw last weekend, the russians basically said we can't help you, you're on your own. that's a huge lesson to, you know, others who are depending
9:35 am
on russian help all around the world and including in places like venezuela where a global leader unfortunately taken by the illegitimate government, animas, want to say his name so your viewers know about him, but clearly russia and iran are the losers and israel is the winner and i think it also puts the united states in a good position diplomatically. griff: i love that you're connecting the dots here evelyn. there are reports today, even in the new york times about russia-- russia's military folks packing up equipment and really withdrawing. what does all of this mean for the incoming trump administration? what sort of hand are they inheriting when you wri bring the russian negotiations into it and a possible peace deal with ukraine? >> i think for the trump administration, this is good news and also looks
9:36 am
parentheticly, that hostages as well and some fighters terrorists and it looks like it will at least calm down, more calming in the region. what it does now is allow the president to put pressure on vladimir putin to come to the negotiating table and to make a deal that makes the united states the winner, and of course, that is on terms that ukraine can agree to provide it with security and some level of justice. and the other part that ties these two scenarios together, you see in syria, your reporter out there, you know, talking about the prisoners who have been held. the russians and the syrians use the playbook in syria that unfortunately, the russians have used also in ukraine. so, when ukraine-- when ukraine is fully free some day, we'll have unfortunately more bloody stories coming out of that scenario as well. griff: yeah, as trey yingst
9:37 am
continues his great reporting and really taking us into the prisons it's got to be just devastating and heartbreaking for syrians wondering where their loved ones were. speak, if you will, to just how dramatically this shift has changed in the middle east. because as trey was reporting we've got secretary blinken that's just meeting this weekend with the middle east leaders, you know, from the uae, from saudi arabia and the like in jordan and yet, that same group was just not too long ago trying to maybe bring assad back into the fold to try and find a resolution. now it happened basically overnight thanks to this rebel group that had a thunder run to damascus. >> yeah, and i think, griff, it also paves the way right now to completing the abraham accords, which is a goal that incoming president trump, outgoing president biden have had consistently, you know, to try to normalize relations between
9:38 am
saudi arabia and israel. i think the path is open to that and we know that, you know, it's been u.s. policy for decades now to avoid having a nuclear armed state in iran run by theocratic government. president trump clearly said that he's going to take a hard line against tehran and i think he'll be able to do that more effectively as well because they're clearly weakened by the israeli bombardment and proxies in syria and lebanon and now gaza as well. griff: there's so much at stake and unfolding quickly. evelyn farkas thank you as always. alicia: griff, south korea's president suspended from official duties as they passed a motion to impeach him describing the situation as a quote, temporary pause of his presidency. our stephanie bennett is following the story. >> hey, alicia, yeah, the national assembly passed this notion 204-85.
