airport security? >> obviously just depends. pick any major airport in new york or miami is probably actually the worst. i try to avoid like like the plague, to be honest. the best is some that get less traffic. a place like phoenix i find to be easy to get through. if you have clear and pre-check and things like that la scrags. i'm in los angeles. i get through security in a couple of minutes. not so bad if you take the necessary precautions. >> dana: lee, i will endeavor to travel in a carry-on. not happening. happy new year to you as well. thanks for joining our show. bye-bye. it is a hectic morning on the hill. house republicans preparing a new bill to prevent a shutdown. is the third time a charm? we'll see. i'm dana perino. >> bill: like that guy, checks his golf clubs. >> dana: jess watters says he

with the house freedom caucus members, the folks that were the hard nose last night. he is also meeting with trump's pick for omb director the nominee russell vogt is in there a representation of the president-elect. i have not yet heard a concrete answer on how long this potential clean cr might be. that might be the hang-up right now that they are discussing inside the speaker's office. what i can tell you at this hour about the clean cr we've been hearing about all morning it will be a continuation of the budget that we are under currently. how to fund the government. there is no debt ceiling attached to this. that was the big ask from donald trump. they would kick that basically to the new year, to the new congress and no disaster relief or farm aid included in this, either. that would affect those very vulnerable and hard-hit states.
7:03 am
remember, last night johnson tried to tie the debt limit to the cr, the skinny cr, can 100 page cr that musk and trump endorsed and it didn't go well. it was a poison pill and you had 38 republicans that rejected in. we're watching the democrats also meeting at this hour right now. they are huddling together to try to figure out what they are going to do. they don't have a deal in their hands. they aren't even being negotiated with. no one is reaching out to them from the house gop conference. we don't know what they will do. if there is a vote it comes up under suspension and republicans will lead the democrats' help as well. we're just waiting and watching to see what comes out of speaker johnson's office. if we finally see that white smoke as they say. if we have an answer and perhaps we'll be able to bring it to you live in your hour. >> bill: we're waiting on the pope then. we might need the pope, a little intervention here. is it safe to say that with an

incoming administration that is so hell bent on bringing spending down that nothing is going to come out of the house because republicans have a slim majority there that will contribute to more spending? that's what this election was all about, am i right on that or not? >> i have think you raise an interesting point, bill. you know, think about what they are arguing over now. the debt ceiling. this issue wasn't supposed to come up until summer anyway. they have plenty of time to get to trump's agenda all the things he wants to do on the border and tax cuts. so many different things they could have had 100 days of a lot of wins which is what the priority is. i was talking to a member this morning and asking him why would you guys want to kick this to the beginning of the new year when you all get -- you become the majority in the house, the senate. he comes into office. why would you want to deal with the debt ceiling then instead of waiting until summer?
7:05 am
he just replied this is now the priority of the president. it would make sense to deal with it now in the lame duck under the democrats' rule because then you could just get it off the table, clear the deck and then he can just move on with whatever he wants to do next and not worry about it. this is posing to be an issue they'll have to deal with in the new year. >> bill: okay, pope francis is online, too, for you, aishah. >> we're all praying. >> bill: nice to see you on the hill. >> dana: amid the funding drama president biden is increasingly stepping away from the spotlight as his term winds down amid a blistering report that the white house has been keeping him in the shadows for years intentionally. the "wall street journal" reporter joined us last hour. >> a lot in this piece that came to light after the initial story that came out and after the debate. we have found that over the past few weeks and months democrats

nobody. the press finds out they have had no communication and in this story in the "wall street journal" it is revealed that for the two most important cabinet secretaries, department of defense and the department of treasury, biden had to have scripted conversations and interactions with them on the two most important issues. >> that's if they could even get access to him. there were cabinet secretaries that would go months if not longer without seeing the president or having conversations with him. within washington the fact that -- that's a conversation that shocks, i think, everybody to know that the detail, the level of just the insulation around him. it begs all these questions how people sat back when he decided more than a year ago that he was going to run for another four years and there were serious questions whether he was handling the duties now. i think that a lot of people need to answer for how they backed that effort to go for another four years when there were so many questions about his current day status. good days and bad days. that's not what you want for a
