1:12 pm
is to begin mass deportations as part of his immigration policy. now, his border is art tom homan said chicago will be ground zero for that plan. the windy city migrant crisis began in august of 2022 when 60 people work buster from texas o chicago. since then over 51000 have been brought to chicago from border states the city has spent nearly $613 million caring for them. here's homan's down with the mayor of chicago said he's going to do anything he can to prevent me from being successful. i will meet with anybody because this is about public safety and national security let's meet support let's work together you don't have to be immigration officers. we will do that be cops, beat law enforcement be elected representatives for your community. love your community a little more than you hate trump.
1:13 pm
so esteven let's bring in raymod lopez. so first of all six of $13 million spent on what? the amount of money spent on 52000 migrant asylum-seekers is just amazing and ridiculous all the same time. that is chicago taxpayer funds that could have helped our communities. could help the west side comments outside many of the distant vested communities. but we have seen plain ngos and other organizations and businesses profiting by the millions on that banks of this crisis is discussing i'm glad it's finally coming to an end and the city of chicago. arthel: would just certain coming borders are tom homan letter from chicago mayor brandon johnson. >> there is a rhetoric and presentation and then there's doing the work. what we need to do in this moment is have real comprehensive immigration reform policy.
1:14 pm
the tensions should be eliminated. there's a difference i want to be very clear though that we are talking about asylum-seekers. >> does there appear to be a miscommunication between homan and mayor johnson? isn't comprehensive immigration reform in the meantime get rid of the bad guys and protect illegal immigrants? >> the ultimate goal quite honestly is to find a solution for that long term un- document who have been failed ever since the obama years being promised daca to dreamers pathway. we also see is johnson and lightfoot have supported changes to her welcoming city ordinance that gave refuge. gives sanctuary to those who choose criminal, whether you ae undocumented or for contempt brief status because of your asylum claim you should not be given sanctuary if you choose to engage in human trafficking,
1:15 pm
drug dealing, gun or sex crimes against minors that should be fairly easy for us to get too. i think tom homan is right but he and i had a meeting where we shared the same ideology. you should not put public safety ahead of your partisan politics and national security, securing your communities should be a nonpartisan issue for this to be very easy when and unfortunately mayor brandon johnson is choosing very different path to be perfectly honest the path he is choosing is more dangerous to the undocumented here in the city of chicago because donald trump they know exactly who the criminals are there going to go looking for them whether we hand them over or not. who is going to get caught up in the middle or all of the long-term undocumented folks have been waiting for path forward to legitimize the presence or in the united states. arthel: president-elect trump campaign as we well know on mass deportation. do you have a clear idea what that will look like? how that will be executed?
1:16 pm
>> i believe what tom homan was to focus his resources on right now is getting rid of those individuals who are in our country who are committing dangerous criminal acts in our communities. that is priority number one. we have the opportunity at the local level to say when we catch someone endangering and dangerous criminal activity we know is an undocumented individual or enough temporary protected status or in the united states we should be able to turn those individuals over the federal authorities let them adjudicate an expedited manner so they can be returned to wherever they are from. because clearly they do not want to add to the positive fabric of our society that's exactly what thomas to focus on. in the meantime i think donald trump is looking to say he's given dreamers a path forward which is something both biden and obama were not able to accomplish. i think is going to be able to accomplish two things in a way the mix everyone happy. >> are not able to accomplish it because i think that pushback from the other side.
1:17 pm
but if president-elect trump is now on board with that perhaps this may be the green light for the docket. for doctor recipients. so let me read this to you a couple of stats fiscal year 2024, of the 271,000 illegal immigrants deported, 32.7 of them had criminal histories. homan also said we know a lot about them because of investigative case files. so it's not a sweep. it's not an uncontrolled operation it's a very targeted operation. so do you have faith this mass deportation will be controlled and not chaotic? quick so i believe that we work together to focus on the criminal elements within our communities that choose to act a certain way once they are in this country, we can control how we manage the situation with the president and with tom homan. that is what we want to do but that's what we should all be working for how do we work together to ensure we are going after those specific people?
1:18 pm
but if you have politicians like brendan johnson to throw their hands up and sam not going to talk to you, they're going to try to figure themselves out anew from the federal level it will be more chaotic it will cause more disruption and more fear in our communities if democrats are serious about protecting the undocumented if they are serious about helping bring our national security and address immigration enforcement, this is their moment to shine. sadly i think most are going to fail to meet the moment. arthel: the way i understood mayor johnson, it seems that he does want to have dialogue about this to get something rectified. but listen, you are there in chicago. remit lopez and good luck to you in that situation there that doesn't need to be fixed. thank you very much. eric: you are hired. present electron by announcing a new role for the producer by the hit tv show to put them at the head of the board table on television, he has appointed mark burnett special envoy to
