what folds of honor has done for you and your family? >> merry christmas. it's such a blessing to be here with you all this morning and to share a little bit about folds, an organization that's touched my life and the lives of so many other scholarship recipients. my father was in the united states marine corps from 1982 to 1985. and in 1983, his unit was sent over to beirut, lebanon and it was attacked in what is largely known as the beirut barracks bombing. my father survived that day. but, he lost so many other of his other comrades that day. as a child i watched as my father struggled with a lot of the events he experienced from his time in beirut and i watched as he persevered through those events. one of those lessons that he taught me from his time in the military was to never say can't. never believe i couldn't achieve something. and i eventually went on to college and decided i wanted to become a neurological surgeon and scientist but my family couldn't afford to send me to college.
