>> holiday travel chaos is in full swing as the possibility of a white christmas looms for the northeast and midwest. that is exciting to look at. its complicating a hectic day. american airlines had to ground flights over a technical issue. the ground stop has been lifted but caused a lot of delays, a record number of americans are expected to travel for the holidays. hello. merry christmas eve. this is "outnumbered." i'm kennedy. joining me today, carly shimkus, lisa boothe, political analyst. kayla mcgee white, and the one and only griff jenkins. fox news national correspondent. let's go.

we begin with air travel as tsa expects to screen nearly 40 million people through the holidays and now that technical issue with american airlines is throwing a monkey wrench in to thousands of passenger's plans. dana marie nichols has more. >> it's the glitch that stole christmas. once you get to the airport, it's a great trade off. tsa airlines are under five minutes. most people have already gotten to their holiday destinations. the ground stop could have been a travel nightmare. american airlines said it was due to a technology vendor fail legislator. around 8:00 a.m., the flights started to take off again. we're still seeing the side effects of the travel hiccup. last check, there were about 28 cancellations, but just over 2,500 delays across all airlines

coming in and out of the u.s. the airport seeing the most delays is dallas fort worth, which is no surprise. that is the hub. 2024, the holiday forecast, if one were to describe it, busy. over seven million people will be flying and over 100 million people will be driving to their destinations. one family we spoke to bringing the holiday magic in a unique way. >> last night they told us that we're going somewhere like special and a surprise. there was a present for the holidays. we don't know where we're going, but they say it's really cool. >> well, there's a high probability they're going to the sunshine state, the most popular domestic destinations are florida, orlando, tampa and miami. i think my vacation has disney written all over it. how exciting for families traveling today when they come

to the airport. not a lot of issues with tsa. >> a record 107 million americans. thanks very much, dana. merry christmas. you're incredible. i'll miss you. 700 million americans expected to hit the road this holiday season according to aaa. jeff flock is in pennsylvania navigating the christmas eve rush. he's already seen it all, jeff. tell us everything. >> good to see you. yeah, it's good to see a wide open road. take a look. yeah. the pennsylvania turnpike. it was shut down just a little bit ago. there was a car that needed to be towed out of a ditch. that's par for the course. when you have over 100 million people on the roads, put up the numbers, yeah, it's almost an all-time record for holiday travel on the roads. christmas holiday travel on the roads. and you know, gas prices, you might think they're high. i would say they're not high.

they're not low. they're middle. they have been that way for a while. we have stable gas prices. we asked aaa, by the way, what would be the best time to travel on the roads this christmas holiday. i guess it was a stupid question. here's the answer. >> so the best times for the road are going to be on christmas morning. so if you have the opportunity to drive tomorrow, that is going to be the best time for those traveling on the roads. >> of course. we got nothing better to do on christmas morning except to drive somewhere. yeah, more people traveling. bottom line, here's the growth numbers. over last year, up auto travel, up 2%. air travel, 5%. cruises, up 10% from last year. we're going places, kennedy. back to you. >> get the flock out of here.

love seeing you, jeff. be safe out there. put your notebook down. hands attended to. let's check in with fox weather meteorologist for more on the christmas forecast. ian, who is getting a white christmas? >> hi, kennedy. merry christmas, everybody. i'll stop short of calling this a christmas miracle. it's a buzzer beater, no question. folks that came to new york city to see snow did this morning. 1 inch of snow in central park. it's not a big number but the most to fall on a christmas eve since 1998. this was on on the of the one which that we had hanging around from the storm that moved through the early part of the weekend. so yes, we have a white christmas probably. it's not locked in just yet. if you play by the meteorological rules, you need 1 inch of snow measured first thing tomorrow morning. our temperatures this afternoon do get up to around 40. so we'll lose a little bit of it. the snow is long gone.

that moved through this morning. look at vermont. maybe your travels took you to ski country. northeast kingdom, newport center, up to about 8 inches of snow. it's been a slow start to ski season. thin in the northeast. definitely a gift for skiers. in to maine, the numbers were bigger approaching a foot. we're seeing some issues with travel. of course, some of the tech stuff with american this morning, that has cleared up. this is icing down at big airports. d.c., baltimore, the misery meters are starting to crank. for the white christmas forecast, if you look out the window, we said that storm is gone, right? if you look out the window and you see snow and you can hang on to it through this afternoon, you have a white christmas. if you don't, you're out of luck this year. try again next year. >> jason chaffetz said they're expecting snow in utah. do to his place.

>> yes. christmas day bonus. >> yes. so griff, it's been planes, trains and automobiles for you. what have you seen in your christmas travels coming to the big city? >> listen, i have seen -- by the way, how great is it to see snow today? hope we get it tomorrow. >> magical. >> a lovely way to wake up. >> it was lovely. we talked about the american airlines glitch this morning. american airlines put a statement out today, sent it to me. they said listen, we're so sorry. all hands on deck. we're working to address it. the lesson from it is, you have to plan ahead. if you're going to christmas on the busiest day ever and you only have a few hours and can't afford a screw up, you planned poorly. be smarter. go the day before or a couple days before and have options, create outs. if i learned anything about traveling for the network and everywhere else, it's that you have to have a plan b. and a c, d and e. >> we've all been there,

report on outrageous government waste. this year the report lists $1 trillion of taxpayer money spent on bizarre pet projects like $10,000 that was given to the bearded lady's caberet to fund ice skating shows about climate change. $32,000 was spent on break dancing. nearly $500,000 was spent on determining if lonely rats seek out cocaine more than happy rats. another $2 million was paid for border security. $12 million to fund a pickle ball complex in las vegas. $20 million to air a sesame street spin off about mutual inclusion, not here in u.s. but iraq. $10 million on furnishing empty buildings. all of this brings to mind a

with appealing to far left socialism" that is popular on college campuses. joe manchin is giving democrats a reality check this christmas. >> i am not a democrat in the form of what the democratic party has turned itself in to. the national brand, absolutely not. the brand got so bad, the d-brand has been so maligned, it's toxic. >> the incoming chair of the house progressive caucus. he said if the democratic party was more like chair woman jayapal and a little less like joe manchin, i think we would have won this election. is he right? >> they would have lost. they got to be nuts. >> kennedy, back in 2016, a lot of people assumed at the time that trump's win was a repudiation of hillary clinton, who was a bad candidate.

this time around, it feels bigger. feels like a rejection of the democratic party apparatus. >> kennedy: it's a two-fold reaction. one, people wanted to return to the time economically between january 2017 to 2021 before thepandemic. they were better off across the board. so they lived through a trump era. so that may have been a shocking victory. unfortunately we've all had to live through bidenomics. it's not been kind to many people. so these voters have rejected progressivism because it has destroyed their cities. so i don't understand that mentality. only if we had been more progressive. only if we had more homeless people in the streets. only if we had higher taxes. only if we had been demonizing more cops, we would have won everything. no. it's the absolute opposite. so people are for looking. they want to be financially sound. they're rejecting not only the

establishment that hillary clinton and joe biden represent, but also the future of the party, which in very short order has destroyed once before parts of the country. >> it's not just republican and independent voters that made this rejection. it's also as this focus group found out, democratic voters. we know based on the results that nearly every single state and deep blue urban areas shifted to the right in trump's favor this time around. so how do democrats reconcile with that? >> it's a tough thing to do. you put your finger on something important. you can make the case that in no modern election that one party has failed to read where the country was more. they were not worried about existential climate crisis when they were worried about paying their mortgage. the bills at the gas station and grocery store. they weren't worried about transgender surgery for migrants that are in detention. they're worried about the future of the country on the world

stage with a hot war essentially happening on multiple fronts. i think that, you know, when you hear joe manchin say that that is crazy, if you would just go towards jayapal, he's right. we saw it across every demographic whether it was young people, black, hispanic, even female, we saw the results that bear that out. this isn't an opinion. it's a reading of what the numbers showed. what you have to also remember is that jayapal, aoc, the progressives, gained more power under the four years of biden. they moved him on israel. they moved him greatly and influenced him. we saw the protests across the country, college campuses, the anti-israel protests. the biden white house was sympathetic to them. not only do you have the change the message, you have to change where their values are. >> to griff's point, one of the things i worry about, the democrats total defeat this

election will inspire a little complacency among conservatisms. we reject wokism and the leftist agenda this time. democrats will learn a lesson and change things. as really the reality is probably they will lick their wounds, rename a few things, try to rephrase and rename the woke agenda. but it's not going anywhere. >> what i worry about, as much as this election was a vote against democrats, it's a vote for democrat. i worry about the republican party misreading that thinking the mandate was for them and not donald trump. if we're getting in tv -- i worked in politics for a decade. i was a vice president of a polling firm. you get whiplash going back and forth between the two parties. so as much as it's for us, could be against us in the mid-terms. i always remember in 2009, "time" magazine, you know, the elephant on the front page saying the republican party was

extinct. i was at the nrcc in 2014. we were winning races we weren't even targeting. we can't read much in to this election heading in to the mid-terms. could be a different ball game. >> the republicans cannot take for granted the coalition among working class voters. >> i think it's going to be -- democrats have to rebrand themselves. it's going to be interesting to see how. donald trump is taking up so much space right now making inroads with the union worker in ohio all the way to mark zuckerberg in silicon valley. so it leaves the college educated who still thinks he's a threat but they're going to need more than that. this is what happens when you cancel people for minor indiscretions. try to cancel the police force across the country. rip open the southern border and have nothing to show for us. do you remember the song "north of richmond?" that song resonated for a reason. you could have called the election that day when it went to number 1 in three seconds.

currently was being told that this isn't going to pass the muster, they still tried to do it anyway for shameless votes. at the end of the day, i love how it was pressing and critical and important around now it's we're going to forget it and move on. it's a slap in the face. i try not the weigh-in personally on these things. journalist, be objective. as someone who has paid two college tuitions, never made sense from the beginning. isolated people that worked hard to put their kids through school out of all the things that he could have folded tent and walked away from, too bad he didn't do it earlier. >> carlie to griff's point, this is robbing peter to pay paul. what about peter? why does he have to be on the hook for paul? >> yeah, this was always the most brazen vote-buying scheme. nancy pelosi said presidents don't have the power to do this. the supreme court ruled that presidents don't have the power to do it.

joe biden found a work-around to the tune of $180 billion. here's what happened. a lot of young people out there said wait a second. you told us that you were going to cancel all students debt and then they got angry. so it backfired. that's what happens when you buy votes. people always want more. >> kennedy, we've seen study after study showing more the federal government subsidizes student loans, the college tuition increases. is it time to get the government out of the way? >> absolutely. healthcare, housing and education. the more they get involved, the more expensive they become. to carlie's point, if you don't have a college degree, we should you pay for someone else's? that's a bunch of people getting plastic surgery. now they're really attractive saying ugly people you now have to pay for the plastic surgery. but you don't get any. you don't get to enjoy the

fruits of their hotness. it's unfair. they were playing with the emotions of people who were trying desperately to pay off their student debt. so here they are thinking oh, this is great. finally i can save that money that i've been paying for the federal loans and put it guard a house. now they can't do either. >> always appreciate your ability to make a joke and making a substantive point. might have worked in the short term but not the presidential election. young voters were feeling the pain of the economy. >> i'll say i'm weary of chocking this up as a win for conservatives for the same reason i'm weary about the title 9 rewrite as a win. it's a bureaucratic move to prevent the trump administration from permanently preventing these policies from being finalized. they want to hold it on the table until the next democratic

administration or the next candidate want to use the same vote-buying scheme. the democrats that think this is a good strategy to your point, they need to look at the election results more closely. it didn't work. young voters were not sueded from student loan debt forgiveness. to young voters that thought that biden was going to forgive their student loan debt, he lied to you. he knew he was lying to you the entire time. he knew this was illegal from the start. so my question to you is why would you ever believe another thing democrats say ever again? >> on that point, i learned in life that unfulfilled extations -- expectations are the most egregious. what does this mean to the young people in the mid-terms. people will say i don't believe you.
