saint patricks. i tried to go on christmas eve it was so busy. i couldn't get in. i got n the back and look at that. cardinal timothy dolan walked right past me in saint pats it was really a lot of fun. joey, what were you doing? >> joey: my primary activity this time of year is hunting as much as i can some of our colleagues decided to go help fix the government. so there was more opportunity for me to come up here. i haven't got to hunt much this year. all my hunting trips were postponed because i was coming up to work. i was coming up here for thanksgiving. >> katie: look at that guy. >> joey: new puppy mac. i haven't got him trained yet. got him out with the geese. his daughter goes to college down in atlanta. she had never shot a goose before. i have a nice little flock that comes in on my pond. so we got out and did a goose hunt. we got three geese on. i don't know if they will show the goose picture. probably not. i guess that's not daytime tv worthy. mac doesn't know how to retrieve

yet. went out and ran around the water next to the geese. next to the geese. took mac out to a pond. shot a bunch of device. is he wondering what do i do? >> joey: he is not gun trained yet. i left him in the house until we shot the geese. once the geese were down -- one actually fell over on shore, and the other two the in pond. i brought him out to get him familiar hey, this is what we are doing. great book called water dog. if you want to train your own dog read it. i have read half of it and haven't implemented any of it so i have a long way to go. i don't have enough catfish to take care of him. i have a boat. this is the other funny part. i have a boat that my uncle gave me so i can go out in the pond and get a geese. it doesn't have a plug in it and doesn't have a paddle. stick in the plug and this worked. using a square pointed shovel to paddle out. most redneck thing i have done in a while.

it was good though. we got the geese back. got our christmas goose. mac got some training and great christmas eve morning and rest of the time was family. >> katie: we will have to get updates on mac's training. >> joey: he is a big baby a family pet. my mom, my sister. of course, my family is there my sister's kids. my mom, my sister and i. i made fun of my sister. my brother-in-law is a fire chief. and she brought this big backdrop for christmas party. put it up in her house after the fire department party. we had our little olan mills photographer going on. >> griff: looks good. >> katie: that's great. >> joey: that's my nieces my daughter and my son. had a great time. i miss them already. >> katie: very happy. and traveled up here. >> joey: i got a plane and traveled up here no. traffic in atlanta. the atlanta airport was dead. i could not believe it. that's rare on any day.

much less christmas day. >> katie: a couple weeks ago i was getting ready for christmas. i went to arlington cemetery and did wreaths across america. go with a it crew of friends. you say the name of the person that you are laying the wreath to remember them always. i did that for the 40 year in a row. try to go near arlington cemetery. i don't have the date at hand but a date later where people have to go and help clean them up. always fun to put them on but always have to clean them up. very mengful thing to do at arlington cemetery. not just there but at cemeteries across the country. if you can't get to d.c., can you check out your local military cemetery and do it there. >> griff: shout-out to volunteers like you to who he up to do it. arlington seam tear there are tens of thousands of tombs to

place those wreaths. good out of you took time out of your busy schedule to go and honor our heroes. >> katie: amazing to go and see all of the wreaths when they are out there on every single head stone. >> joey: i bet it's beautiful. >> katie: a little bit of gadd stolen my english lab is also not duck trained. indoor dog. pretending he is a tsa agent going through all of the presents from santa and looking through maybe one of those was for him. trying to see what was in there, you know, sniffing some of the presents. and he did get one from santa. and there is a debate going on. i think it's a pigeon. but, santa claus, aka my mother. says that it's a duck. i think it's a pigeon. what do you guys think? people in new york say pigeon. >> duck hunting expert. >> joey: doesn't look like a duck i have ever killed. i would say a pigeon. hard to tell. i see a lot of gray in there.

christmases as the president and president-elect offered two very different holiday messages. >> katie: today president biden heads to vacation in st. croix president-elect trump isn't letting the holiday slow him down. >> joey: alexandria hoff has details for us. election election good morning. during the president's last trip meanwhile, president-elect trump took a more active global approach to his holiday messaging writing in one: merry christmas to all, including the wonderful soldiers of china who are lovingly but illegally operating the panama canal, always making certain that the united states puts in billions of dollars of repair money but will have absolutely nothing to

say about anything. panama's president has denied beijing holds any control over the canal. china does have two ports and invest in a billion dollars in new bridge. trump has suggested the u.s. should reclaim control. yesterday trump selected miami-dade county commissioner kevin moreno as ambassador to panama which he feels has been ripping off the u.s. with shrink fees. another holiday post extended to our neighbor to the north. that was president justin trudeau but he is called governor there. the president-elect writes in canada was to become our 51st state their taxes would be cut by more than 60%. businesses would immediately double in size and militarily protected like no other country anywhere in the world. and then on the hot topic of icy greenland. trump shared additional holiday message to the people of greenland, which is needed by the united states for national security purposes and who wants the u.s. to be there and we will. in trump's first term he

expressed in interest of green land asserting that the island is not for sale. there is this interesting dynamic. there has been talk that this talk of green land messaging has been strategic that, perhaps, forcing the danish government's hand at increasing defense spending for green land which they have done, that would happen as russia has been mapping out claim of the nearby territory. some think this talk is a bit strategic, guys. >> griff: alex hough kicking things off in washington. thank you. there really couldn't be more of a contrast between president biden who said, you know, is he wishing about the light of liberty and jets off to the caribbean for vacation on the beach and trump who said i'm taking greenland, the panama canal, and maybe canada. >> joey: i love what she said at the end. i had this conversation years ago when he did this the first time because of the persona and celebrity angle and witty and funny like you saw in that tweet

the whole green langsd thing is a joke. there is a strategic part there that we talked about even places like in south antarctica who claims and operates on it. greenland being where it is. you have got one president that is leaving office and everyone is saying how weak are we because of him? what a contrast to be the president coming in saying from greenland to the panama canal. we are expanding our reach because we are doing that well. we are that strong. we have that everywhere opportunity boiling over either our g.d.p. or military. whether it's true or not, there's a big part of international conflict called posturing where you don't go to conflict but present yourself. speak softly and carry a big stick. putting the naval fleet around the world, you know, and so doing stuff like that matters. the greenland thing we are not as americans taking it as strategic as it could be. >> griff: you are on team green land. >> joey: i'm on a team don't spend a much of money we don't

have. >> griff: can you imagine being greenland's prime minister and by the way trump is taking us. >> katie: one of the questions asked when trump won. where are we on the greenland thing. this is the thing he did first term and secretary of state mike pompeo also made a trip there on one of his final trips as a secretary of state. and it is a very strategic location. china is making their way into everything as we know, including the artic. and we also know that the panama canal is about china, which he talked about in his statement yesterday. saying that chinese soldiers are illegally occupying the panama canal. the chinese communist party controlling a number of ports in the canal. they control a number of companies that are watching and surveilling a lot of what is happening in the canal. the fact is that the united states military and united states taxpayer built the panama canal with our dollars. so, he had something to say there. it's definitely a negotiating, starting point if he is not

serious about taking both of those things. >> joey: one more thing on greenland i have to put this out there with those of us who grew up with the mighty ducks the one thing i learned about geography green land is covering the ice and iceland is green. if aoc is correct and ice caps melting we want to be there. >> griff: you sold me. >> katie: paddle board around green land. lots of activities. dog sledding tour of greenland. other lots of things to do. >> griff: other social media post that got the most attention, i think, my favorite pertained not to green land or the panama canal but to canada out of nowhere comes this post. trump writing. this. i just left wayne gretzky, the great one as he is known in ice hockey circles. i said wayne, don't you run for prime minister of canada. soon-to-be known as the governor of canada. you would win easily. you wouldn't even have to campaign. he had no interest, but i think the people of canada should

start a draft wayne gretzky movement it would be so much fun to watch. i'm not sure if the legend and ice hockey is up for that but certainly one of trump's musings that is going to be talked about quite a bit. >> katie: people not in politics look at what trump has gone through in politics and say maybe not. i will just come dabble a little bit. i think pierre would l. probably take issue with him running in canada. he is a conservative candidate running against the current prime minister justin trudeau or as trump would say the next governor of canada. >> griff: unclear why trump and gretzky were hanging out on christmas. >> katie: never know who going to be down in mar-a-lago. >> joey: if you can be bee loved by entire sport and fan base and a country like wayne gretzky pretty much is why ruin that? why take a chance for what will be the 51st state anyway. it's not a big deal. >> griff: we will see where that goes. meanwhile, obviously, i talk a lot about the border. we covered the border.

and when tom homan begins crack down as soon as president-elect trump takes office. it's going to be day one. a lot of things are come. one of the things they will be targeting are hotels like the roosevelt and watson here in new york where migrants have goning an absolutely free ride. you are going to see, i think those hotels probably empty but migrant -- one migrant here yesterday talking and by the way we show you the numbers, right? just so you get perspective on new york. more than 200,000 migrants in the last two and a half years six billion plus spengted on migrant housing in new york city. that's not across the country. here in new york city. >> joey: those are basement numbers, provable numbers not total numbers. at the border. got-aways and estimate out there. probably a lot more people that have come to this city and a lot more money spent. but talking about money spent and what this city is doing specifically to house those migrants and put them up, we have seen, i believe it was

couple years ago. nice hotel completely trashed. this is actually in a moment of honesty and maybe self-reflection. this is a columbian mom staying at the watson hotel in new york city. this is what she had to say. we're getting spoiled. this was never my idea. i didn't leave my country under the conditions we fled for this. in context, i think what she is saying is i had no idea that i was going to be treated this well or have it this nice. >> katie: or be this easy. it's a recycling of tax dollars. the money goes to ngos through federal grants or state grants. then someone writes a check to the hotel who is benefiting. so this illegal immigration industrial complex that has been developed and really just pumped up over the last four years is also going to come to an end. there has been a lot of people cashing a lot of checks somehow laundering of your money to make sure that these people are

administration has been really slow-rolling everything israel has tried to do in their response to the horrific acts of october 7th by hamas. and the ongoing you, know, keeping hostages as a negotiating tool. so, while gaza has been fairly well devastated, the israelis have done considerably less than they are capable of, because they needed our assistance. so i think when president trump says something like that, as you pointed out earlier in the show. posturing matters. you know, when the leaders of hamas hear that that's a possibility, they are more likely to make terms that have actually acceptable to the israeli people. >> joey: when we talk about the main, i guess, linchpin right now. the hanging point is this idea that they can get a list of hostages to be set free, i look at this and say it kind of looks like hamas has the upper hand because israel netanyahu their own people they are so desperate to get names to find out who may

be alive. who may be -- that have an opportunity to come back home. almost like you are so hanging on to hope as far as the israeli people go that hamas has more of a ban beganning chip there. on the other side that's the only bargaining chip they have. they have no capabilities left. what they have that belief and israel has shown over the years they goal to extraordinary lengths to secure the release of prisoners or hostages or sadly to get their bodies back if they have bore been killed. and they don't know specifically and definitively who is alive and who is dead. so this war has been dragging on for a long time because of that desire by the israelis to get their people back and i think netanyahu is under tremendous pressure domestically to do whatever he can to get any remaining living hostages home, i think they will make some sort of deal and at the point where they find out who is alive and who is dead. president trump's words may come

into play and there is hell to pay for whoever is left in hamas leadership. >> joe: one topic that's touching conflict around the world to touch the middle east is drone warfare not the just the war of the future the current arms race we are in. explain how much we don't understand and stalk about what's happened in new jersey. being told that president biden called the pentagon on four separate occasions told by the military nothing unusual. concerning. what do you make of the president having to call the pentagon and do it four times and to really get a nonanswer from them? this is driving the entire country crazy. at some level there are drones flying around new jersey. whose they are, are they domestic u.s. government, state, local law enforcement maybe federal law enforcement, surveillance, intelligence, or

is it some sort of external state power? i think that's less likely because of the provocation level and what it takes to do that. it will be a very edging towards a war-like act. but, what the problem in my mind is even worse than that we have a legitimate fear of drone warfare. nobody now can trust our government can tell us the truth. i don't think anybody believes that we're getting straight answers and even biden or whoever is operating the biden puppet at this point, believes the answer they are getting. so no one can give a definitive answer to the american people about what's happening inside our own country. that's kind of horrifying at a level above even the drone, you know, technology. >> joey: great point. sam man so sat there and told us the border is closed. told us the spy balloon couldn't transmit telling us these drones are no big deal. kind of makes you believe the opposite. jim hanson thank you for your service and joining this morning.

david, i hope you had a great christmas. let's dive? >> david: i did, thank you. you too, griff. >> griff: the "wall street journal" framed this as saying all the big business people from silicon valley to wall street and beyond our shores are coming to kiss the ring, bend the knee and cut the check. toyota being the latest, look at the list of companies though. you can see from toyota, ford, general motors but it's also amazon, meta, open ai, uber goldman sachs, bank of america, the list goes on and on. many making million dollars more donations. why do you think some business folks are coming to try and curry favor, really, is what it looks like with president-elect trump? >> well, maybe their memory goes back a little bit. if you look at the first trump administration, businesses did better. the economy did better. and, to be fair, a seat at the table. the trump administration is taken in, what, some estimated

possible about $225 million in total donations. they want to a seat at the table there will be discussions about regulatory policy across the board and that's important. the trump administration, just being at the table doesn't guarantee you the outcome because it's tough to buy trump, as i like to say. and on top of that, when you look at it, griff, he has got doge. anyone who thinks they are going to get back into heavy crony capitalism, buying their way in, we have seen that in the biden administration. we saw that with the solyndras and the obama biden administration. more with the democrats. that's not going to happen here. and there is a watchdog in doge that we need an efficient government and we also don't need outside influence when as the president has talked about, it needs to be the government working for the people, not the other way around. >> griff: what do you make of already we are seeing democrats like democrat congresswoman
