poorest member of the senate. beach houses. there is a lot of traditions he and his family have. most americans wouldn't identify with. i don't think democrats are -- they are all that sad about him leaving. i don't think there is a lot of fanfare. one democratic lobbyists admit tout hill there is such a great level of sort of disappointment on the way. this presidency is ending. it's almost like resignation at this point. among democrats nobody is looking forward to donald trump being president, but everybody is ready for biden's presidency to be done. so maybe just hang out there in st. croix until february and everything will be okay. >> katie: kind of the reflects of entire presidency. spent 45% of his time away from the white house either in delaware or on vacation. his presidency really ended in june of this year after the debate with president-elect donald trump think basically kicked him off the campaign trail and didn't want him around

at all and still lost the election. it's been quite an embarrassing year for democrats and still trying to get their feet under them. >> griff: a sign of how history will remember the biden years. the border was the biggest story and chaos of his presidency. but you are seeing really what appears to be the damage to the democrat party as a whole. because not only that strategist but well-known democratic strategist liz smith just saying this week that the democrat party is in the toilet. you had joe manchin signatures down in an interview saying that things are toxic. and so, it looks like as he heads off to the tropical paradise of st. croix t the debe over how bad the democratic party are stuck in the wilderness looking for a way out to remessage, to refind their identity, he is going to just sort of close it out. >> katie: not sure biden cares about where the democratic party is going given what they did to him getting him out of the race

for a second term. but the republicans are celebrating and alaska's governor is asking president-elect trump to end oil and gas drilling restrictions on his first day in office. this is what he said, governor mike dunlevy's letter to trump the transition team. your election will hail in a new era of optimism and opportunity. alaska stands ready and eager to work with you to repair this damage wrought by the previous administration both alaska and america on a course to prosperity in order modify quickly i ask that you issue an alaska specific executive order on your first day in office setting in motion critical agency actions that restore opportunity to alaska that your administration set forth. so there is a lot of governors asking for trump to do things on day one. he has got a long, long list of to dos once he gets inaugurated on january 20th. >> griff: i don't think governor dunlevy needed to ask. president trump has been very clear he wants to drill, baby, drill. here is what he had to say at

america fest rally. >> we had the greatest economy in the history of our country. maybe in the history of any country frankly. we had -- we did things that nobody could have done and we are going to do them even better now. we are going to be drilling as we say drill, baby, drill. >> griff: it's been interesting throughout the campaign when, you know, the inflation issue that really drove many people's votes and various speeches and reagans. trump would talk about how energy independence and drill, baby, drill why it's a great sort of slogan is actually fundamental to turning around not only our economy but really the world's economy. and we'll see what happens. obviously you have got the permits that the biden administration over the past four years have put in places in places like anwar and alaska and elsewhere. i think the border is going to be a day one priority. so, too, is going to be his push

towards energy independence. >> >> joey: you talk about how biden's presidency might have ended in june. well, it didn't end -- it didn't end in a way that he stopped them from granting all these pardons and clemenciy. administration phone wall or fire wall rexzs and restrictions put in place that did hurt the economy. the green energy energy lobby that powerful a religion of its own president trump understands a lot needs to be done and can do when he gets in office. it's still going to be a fight. you were talking how the democratic party would be sham nels. the republican party wasn't in a great place post the tea party movement if took president trump to bring it back. the republican party wasn't in a great place a year ago after the debacle with the speaker of the house catch fire again.

the woke stuff people are over the idea they're for the working class catch fire. >> such a good point. go ahead. >> long term problems with the democratic party that we saw culminate in this last election that have been happening over the last couple of cycles where republicans in the maga movement, not the previous style republicans are cutting into these coalition groups the democrats have relied on. union workers. latinos, blacks, all these voting groups that typically vote for democrats are cutting into those with a small percentage at a time. but they are taking that away. democrats don't really have a plan or a strategy to get those people back once they have left their coalition. that's going to be a big problem for them. >> are they on the right side of the issues that voters care about fanned that drives prices back down. how are you going to be? >> well we would rather have to suffer higher prices because we feel like we are doing what is

right for the climate. which is the case that the biden administration made. what side of the border issue. do you want to stay open. the democrat party that only has a messaging challenge to get back, i think, i would argue to the center. >> a facts challenging. aoc and pramila jayapal and progressives tremendous influence. issue in israel and gaza in trying to sway the democrat party in one directions. but you have also got to see where the democrat party wants to put their money down on the issues. and right now. seems like they have got a long ways to go. >> katie: they do, inkeyed. meanwhile some aviation experts and ukraine officials are blaming russia for plane crash left 38 people dead. >> joey: amazing. chanley painter is here with details why large passenger plane crashed hundreds of miles off course wednesday morning. footage from near the seen shows the aircraft hitting the ground

at fast rate of speed before erupting azerbaijan airlines flight when it was did he verted to kazakhstan and then crashed on the opposite shore of the caspian sea. reason given for the change of course have included fog and weather conditions as well as possible bird strikes. but now some officials are blaming russian antiaircraft fire. the "wall street journal" reporting that an aviation security firm believes the flight was likely shot down by a russian military air defense system after it evaluated the footage of the crash, damage to the aircraft and recent military activity. and some aviation experts have suggested that the perforation in the plane's tail section

looked consistent with a possible missile strike or the work of air defense. this crash did come shortly after drone strikes hit southern russia wednesday morning and drone activity, of course, has shut down airports in that area in the past. in fact, the nearest russian airport to the plane's flight path was closed on wednesday morning. now, we know both pilots died in the crash, according to russian news agencies. but officials say the aircraft's black box was recovered. and a kremlin spokesperson says it with would be wrong to speculate on the cause of the crash until the official investigation concludes. guys? are. >> griff: chanley painter thank you very much. >> katie: that footage is sad. >> griff: tells everything. >> katie: i wouldn't be trusting russia to come to their own conclusions about the investigation and the missile defense system. it's not like russia hasn't shot planes out of the sky before. >> joey: putting together the pieces of information. did the airplane have to divert

course because of weather and because diverted course and didn't have a flight plan the military thought it was something hostile? i don't know. you have to take responsibility when something like this happens. people around the world fly on airlines. and, you know, i don't know what the citizenship was of everyone that died on that crash. a lot of international implications when something like this happens. beyond the human tragedy, there is the repercussions and it's just another straw on a big haystack why that war needs to end quickly. >> griff: you noticed in chanley's report there the mention of drones. we just drones is really, however they impact our lives. whether it's in this story or new jersey or elsewhere, we keep hearing about drones. we will see where that goes. >> joey: turning now to headlines, christmas chaos unfolding outside macy's on 34th street and manhattan just down the street from where we are. a taxi jumped a curb and blued

into a group of people leaving six hurt. including #-year-old boy. this happened around 4:00 p.m. after police say the taxi driver suffered a possible medical episode. tourists and others. jumping in to help the wounded. officials are still investigating the cause of the crash. in the trial for the suspect and president-elect trump's second assassination attempt won't start until september. the trial of brian ruth was pushed back after a federal ruling this week it. comes after his attorneys ask for more time to review the evidence against him. ruth is accused of aiming a rifle at trump while he was golfing back in september. rouasurfer taking on a monster e at a beach that's nicknamed jaws. is he thrown from his board and can you see his body flip upside down five times. just cart wheel after cart wheel before he fan issue ins.

i'm proud of that as i have gotten older. i started to build more spiritual muscle. i think it's also is no coincidence that because of that, things have been going really well for me. so i feel very fortunate and very grateful for that i absolutely love. this i was telling you guys, mario lopez dolls this thing where he introduces movies and put in all the hotels. i will come in and turn the tv on and mario lopez on for hours the same 15-minute clip. is he doing a lot of things. is he doing christmas movies. look at him. he looks happy. if this is genuine and accurate. i think it's awesome. >> griff: i love his term spiritual muscle. you don't think about that. but, really, as with all things. you have to -- one has to work on their faith. i have to. and i went to church yesterday. and you know, when i was sitting there. it's christmas. it's really a special service. i had cardinal dolan. but it did occur to me, you know, maybe in 2025. i will work on trying to make it to church more.

anything but faithful in hollywood see morals all time low traditionally speaking. to add his stardom, his platform to try to influence others to maybe think about hey, mario lopez is working on that. i ought to be working on that, too. >> katie: great thing we live in america. we have a constitution that protects people of faith. we have an education system in a lot of places where people have a choice about where to send their kids to school and they have the freedom to use some of their tax money to send them where they want. including faith-based educational institutions. >> and you are seeing a number of states around the country trying to, you know, do doo that model and be interesting to see if the new administration the change of attitude towards faith-based ed's occasion as we know the biden administration has been pretty hostile towards education that's faith based and

also towards catholics and other groups of people who are trying to worship freely. >> hostile towards education does anything but allow them to doctrine nate through public schools. my son and daughter go to a charter school system that is a public school. when they kicked off the school year, it was academics, athletics, the arts and america. they put patriotism as one of the four pillars of the school. and so, you know, like mario lopez is finding his -- he is finding the right education for his children through catholic school. former colleague pete hegseth talked a lot about this and where he moved. you know, states away to put his kids in the school that he believed. in and parents that have the demanding and even public careers, mark werg recently moved making big moves in their lives. maybe sacrificing some of their career and money put their kids in a better situation. that type of you want to call it self-sacrifice. everyone i just named is doing pretty well in life. that type of putting your kids first.

that's whereas a parent myself my son has pulled me back into faith. he will joined a church and get saved in christian vanity being baptized and joining a member of a church. he chose those things and going to support him pulled our family back into it. i think this is a part of underlying change in society where depending on swings both ways, and so it swung so far to this woke left, everything acceptable, nothing is sacred that i think even the youngest among us are helping swing it back, at least to the middle. >> griff: it is a sacrifice though. a guy lie mario lopez is going to be known making these statements in a place where he still is an ache core. still has to go and show up and go to work. so, you know, he does certainly get credit for the courage, really to say hey, here is what happens what matters to me. here's where i stand. and i'm going to encourage others to find that spiritual muscle. >> katie: smart. because most of america agrees with him. so if you want more of an

fantastic christmas in california is really trying to get out there, according to gavin newsom, and pushing back on the effort to finally get the border chaos under control. what do you make of this? >> merry christmas, griff. this is -- this is destructive leadership, shown by gavin newsom in california.

we just had an election on november 5th. people voted for secure borders and streets and knowing the president was going to initiate a deportation effort not because he wants to but because we had about 12 million people entered the country encountered by cbp. something must be done what happened the last four years. he wants to use the state funds and state infrastructure to throughout federal law. this is state ha has some of the highest income taxes in the country, some of the highest sales tax in the country. and there is about a $68 billion deficit. b with a b. is he going to use taxpayer resources to protect who exactly people in the country illegally who broke the law to be there. also broken the law in the jurisdictions in which they live in california. this is destructive leadership shown by gavin newsom. not what people voted for. not what the people of california need. but that is unfortunately what they have. this terrible leadership in the

likes of gavin newsom in california. who is going to destroy that state if he hasn't already gone a long way to do it. >> griff: ron. we were just showing our viewers video of migrants crossing in the san diego sector in jacumba, california where i spent a lot of time reporting this past year and governor gavin newsom has actually come down to that location where we are seeing migrants coming from all over the world from. syria, libya, afghanistan. and a ton, unprecedented number of chinese, all of which potentially could pose a national security risk. some of them hitting the terrorist screening data base. yet, gavin newsom is saying that he is going to lean n further protect migrants in the sanctuary jurisdiction. what possibly is his moat violation. >> going broke because of the wokeness of his politics. it's been out of control on the san diego border the last four years give or take. he just wants more of that.

streets in california. this is the wrong direction to throughout federal law. and we knew this was coming as of november 5th. him getting out there and pretending that this problem doesn't exist in california or that he is going to make it better somehow by using the state's infrastructure and the state's limited resources to protect illegal aliens who also break the law in the state. it's the wrong direction for a number of reasons. but there he is. he is trying to put himself between the rule of law and the president's efforts to secure the border and have safe streets in california. >> griff: ron, just in the 15 seconds that i have got left, what do you foresee with trump and tom homan's challenge going into california. is this going to be a problem? >> it's already a problem in the say. it's a sanctuary against cooperation with ice. they are just going to have to work hard and leverage that activity. the men and women of the frontline know how to do this. they can do it professionally and safely with or without gavin newsom's help. >> griff: they are ready to go. ron vitiello, thank you for taking time today. have a great rest of the holiday week.

scene in elizabeth town, pennsylvania. snow covered and beautiful. we're going to check in now with meteorologist adam klotz he has our fox weather forecast. no snow behind you. >> no, no snow out here, joey, certainly on the chilly side. i wanted to test my meteorological skills and take a guest what the temperature is i haven't looked at this. i think it feels like 24. did i load the fox weather app. here, 2 #. actually not so bad. two degrees off. no more snow up and down the east coast. still weather systems we are paying attention. to say dive into the forecast map. one of the big stories that rain you are seeing on the eastern half of the country. going to be heavy rain across texas. ultimately moving over to louisiana. could really slow down driving here as you move through your thursday. all of this rain then spreads out over couple days and becomes more of a flight risk as you get into friday and saturday. all of those yellows are airports we are expecting some sort of travel delays for folks who are trying to maybe enjoy this longer holiday. the good news is, if you are

on her wish list is this year was a small tv more the kitchen that would swivel. and i said all right, mom, that's an easy done deal. but today is about setting that up and disabling the ads and the tracking on a smart tv. if you got a smart tv or if you haven't done this in a long time. disable the ads and tracking on it. disable if it's got a camera. why do you need that on? get some electric tape. put it across the camera on the top of it. or just -- if it has a disable function do that as well as if you are not using the voice recognition that came with the tv and i never do. i just don't like it. i think it's creepy. i don't want someone to have that access to it. it is really turn that off. and, you know, make the tv as private as you can. so you are not sharing your world with god knows who is on the other end. and at my website. we have put together regardless of what you got for christmas. just go in and can you see what you need to do with your tv.
