alberta been all over social media saying they are interested in joining the united states. i think this is probably much more about the fact that justin trudeau's government is in trouble. he has had ministers resign. he has to have an election by october. and it feels a little bit like president trump is sort of like with the cat nip in front of justin trudeau teasing him a little bit too much with these tweets. but, in all seriousness, when you look at both the artic, really important discussion with both canada and greenland. i went to the artic minute steering. we know the artic is being weaponized by russia. there is geopolitical competition happening in the artic because of climate change. president trump is trying to make us a maritime nation again. i have written about this extensively in the last year. what we need to do to make the u.s. navy great again. when you look at commercial shipping, for example, look at what has happened in the red sea with the houthis at least 25% of the trade that used to transit there has to be diverted to other ways.

so it's putting pressure on places like the panama canal. so the only way for us to truly be a great nation to restore a maritime credibility both in commercial shipping and with the u.s. navy. so i think the president, the president-elect is highlighting something incredibly important and fundamental to our national security in both the artic and the maritime space at large. >> bret: yeah, and china is very active in panama. let me turn to capitol hill. >> exactly. >> bret: raised concerns about johnson. republicans had spoken to the president-elect in the weeks before the shutdown showdown airing grievances and raising reservations about johnson's handling of layer isous issues and his management of the house g.o.p. conference the showers said. take you back to december 10th when i asked him this. >> are you worried at all about your january 3rd election as speaker? >> i'm not. we have a unified conference. i have talked with every single individual at great length and all of us collectively are ready

pass a budget reconciliation bill in the first 100 days that funds all of that he doesn't have time for dysfunctional house to be shooting at itself. figuring out hot next leader is going to be. they need speaker johnson to stay in the job, let get the election certified. come right out of the box at the start start on january 20th and have the most productive 100 days in presidential history. >> robert, you think johnson stays on? >> yeah, i see it differently. i mean, one, he lost 38 votes from on the reconciliation without the democrats it doesn't pass. the two most important people is one, president trump, if he doesn't support johnson, it's no chart at all. and number two is hakeem jeffries. without the democrats johnson is not getting reelected that's how he got his speakership and that's how the reconciliation got passed. the freedom caucus, they are going to at least two or more. so i think we're kind of kidding ourself that there is a unified caucus as he said to you on december 10th when he missed 38 votes and didn't get done what

president trump wanted him to get done which was the debt ceiling. so i think this is going to be a lot going on. >> bret: a lot happened between december 10th and spending bill that cr. last word, morgan? >> i think robert hit the nail on the head. what matters is who is in that position? do they have president trump's support. and it's got to be somebody who can do business with him. mike johnson has been able to do it. but this has got to be a leader that legislature's can trust to get deals done with president trump. that's what they're looking for. especially with senate control. there is really only like 18 months to get anything done. because then you start fighting again for the next election. so it's time to hit the ground running and passing legislation and not spending time fighting. >> bret: okay. panel, thanks so much. >> thank you. ♪ >> bret: finally tonight a special day. on behalf of the president.
