>> katie: good morning, it's 8:00, friday, december 27. this is "fox and friends." today canadian diplomats meet with president-elect trump's team at mar-a-lago as trump threatens major tariffs on imports. >> joey: and mike johnson as speaker is up in the air. can it affect trump getting things done. >> we do not want a speaker battle like we went through with kevin mccarthy, we have to come together. >> todd: fox news alert. dangerous tornados sweeping through the south as millions travel home from christmas. final hour of "fox and friends" starts right now. >> house speaker mike johnson future and leadership role could be at risk. >> todd: battle for the gavel could delay the certification of
5:02 am
president trump's victory. >> joey: >> madeleine: is live with more. >> madeleine: congress convenes january 3, first order of business is electing a speaker. without one house cannot swear in members or pass legislation and can't certify results of electoral college on january 6. house clocks in with one vacancy thanks to matt gaetz. 219 republican to 215 democrats. speaker of the house must win majority of all members of 218. and trouble is brewing for house speaker mike johnson with several republicans unhappy with the way he handled the fight to keep the government opened. >> before last couple weeks, i was in his corner. we should consider what is best fath forward. we need to consider whether
5:03 am
current leadership is what we need. >> madeleine: johnson relied ones it's00 when former house speaker kevin mccarthy worked with democrats to keep government open and aets aets triggered vote to oust him. hakeem jeffries will not be help ing johnson. >> there will be no democrats available to save him base on breaching of bi-partisan agreement. >> madeleine: one republican congressman, massie,s he will not spoert support johnson. >> katie: thank you. look at the majority, republicans 2 19 to 215. they have a slim lead when it
5:04 am
comes to electing a speaker. in terms of how speaker should work, speaker of the house has to win out right majority, has to get 218 votes. if they can't get a speaker, they cannot certify the presidential election results on january 3rd. last time they had a speaker race, kicked out kevin mccarthy, it took three weeks. there are two weeks until inauguration day. if they can't get it done in time, grassley will bottom become pro tem. republicans have to make a choice to get this done quickly, not do it at all, they want to make sure trump can get to work
5:05 am
and settle what they want to do immediately when he gets into office. >> joey: we had a clip of claudia tinney warning about the speakership battle. >> we do not want to go through a speaker battle like we did with kevin mccarthy. we ended up with mike johnson who is a super laative speaker. if we carry on and go past january 6, we will lose ability to certify president trump, and that is critical to advance america first agenda, which mike johnson will do. mike will have a real challenge. he's the right man for the job. we have wonderful members that serve with us, he is the right person for the job, he got us through this year and with slim majority outspent by everyone and raised good amount for
5:06 am
republicans. mike is ready to do the work everyday to meet needs of every member in our conference. >> i get what she's saying, let's keep the ship afloat. do not remodel and make the ship sink on the way down. kevin mccarthy lost his job because some republicans felt it necessary to take a stand. mike johnson did not make any promises, did not asked for this, he was asked to do it. how fundamentally flawed is it to get rid of one and keep him for doing the same. i talked to massie and he can raise a stink about something because a vote wasn't going to stop something.
5:07 am
are folks like thomas massie, do they become john mccain with thumbs down that does sink the ship over principles. i hope they figure it out before it is time to vote. >> katie: republicans have a choice to make, do they toss out speaker johnson risking certification of january 6 election and put in grassley instead of donald trump? all points valid on principles of how many get spent. this did happen under president joe biden, it is new chance republicans to start over and maybe timing is not the best. if they want to have this fight in march, when it comes up again, that is better time, getting house up and running is
5:08 am
probably a priority for the president-elect. >> joey: one caveat, talk about posturing and talk about trump thr throwing tariffs out. is there something that thomas massie or others saying they are h holding out want in writing or in a deal. mccarthy says there were deals made others did not stick to. they have to go by parliamentary procedure. >> todd: i have two points. one, mike johnson was backup to the backup, to the backup. >> joey: the walk-on. >> todd: who is this magical person? is it elon musk? no, he has a busy job giving information to these individuals
5:09 am
creating law. i hated the 1500 page bill, from optics, it was everything american people voted against. end of the day, this is coach you have, do you want to give him a chance to get in the game and coach when republicans have senate and presidency? let's not sacrifice good for perfect, see what johnson can do with unified republican party in charge of each of the three parts of government. then if you are not happy get rid of him then. see what he can do when republicans have d.c. canadian diplomats meeting with president trump's team at mar-a-lago. >> joey: canada finance minister and foreign minister will be on hand after arriving in south florida yesterday.
5:10 am
>> katie: the meeting will focus on fentanyl trafficking and illegal migration. it comes after president-elect raised idea of canada joining the u.s. saying if canada was to become 51st state taxes would be cut by 60%. >> todd: trump proposed a 25% tariff on all goods from canada. that is a big deal, u.s. and canada exchange 2.7 billion each day. that is a lot. look, we all can agree, and maybe we can't,ir think we can, canada will not be 51. we all know that is not happening and all know that wayne gretzky, despite trump's urging, will not be in charge of canada. this all goes back to the notion of why does trump say these things and put these threats out
5:11 am
there? because for the last four years, the united states has been abused on the world stage. donald trump is going out and saying i'm taking canal back, panama. i'm taking canada and making it 51st state. will these things happen? with the canal, i don't know. with canada, we know they are not going to. if we get better terms that protex the american consumer, this is how you negotiate and boggles the mind why joe biden and this administration took a knee to every other country in the world during his administration. some call it globalization, some call it stupidity. >> katie: you say 51 pvt state is not happening, what if they split canada in two. >> todd: like vancouver and --
5:12 am
>> katie: they are different politically. >> todd: that is an idea. >> joey: i do hear from canadians that watch our show and they do watch our show and like fox news and they are hungry for some of what we have in this american conservative movement there own country. things that happened during covid, truckers, a lot of things, they have their own immigration problem. maybe president trump is tapping into something. there is selfless interest between katie and i, ability to go hunt. >> katie: great hunting in canada, finance minister will meet with tom homan, incoming border czar to talk about the longest border in the world. they are talking about combating that, as well. >> todd: fentanyl is not just an issue on the southern border.
5:13 am
people are dying because of fentanyl pouring across the northern border, as well. way you said that, is interesting, finance minister meeting with tom homan, the border czar. those two things are linked and it is sad the biden administration viewed that as opportunity to create systemic change or whatever kamala harris was supposed to be doing in guatemala, root cause and nothing ultimately happened. biden did nothing. trump and tom homan presumably will do something. speaking of doing nothing. if you're on vacation, we're not attacking you right now. you worked hard all 2024 and you are taking time with friends and family. this guy is different. joe biden, he has spent 570 days on vacation last four years.

that is 40% of his presidency. that means four out of every 10 days for those not good at math, joe biden has spent on the beach or not working. >> joey: todd, did you do that math? >> todd: of course, got up early this morning. >> joey: that graphic, i was afraid to do the numbers. 40%, that's a lot, on vacation. only one person gets to be president, it is a gruelling job. you can't compare that job to any other occupation and you go and ask and beg for it, you have to be able to do it. you 40% on vacation tells me he migrant not have been up for that job. >> katie: the white house argues he can work from anywhere. if he's in delaware, he has everything, command center, etcetera, in st. croix until new
