this. hi, nate. >> hey, bill, good afternoon. immigrations and custom enforcement confirms to fox news that they lodged a new immigration detainer on sebastian zapeta. however, the new york city department of corrections indicated that they will not honor that detainer because of the sanctuary policies in place in new york city. now federal prosecution could provide a bit of a workaround on that front, we will get to that in a second. but first you see zapeta right here, the big takeaways today that he was indicted by a grand jury on charges of first and second-degree murder as well as first-degree arson. he waived his right to appear in court today. he is expected in court during his arraignment on january 7th. his indictment will be unsealed then. new york congresswoman nicole malliotakis said it is ridiculous new york city is not cooperating with i.c.e. >> the city not cooperating with i.c.e. to deport people who are in this country illegally, wreaking havoc, committing

border patrol chief. thanks for coming in today. happy new year to you. happy holidays. i want to talk about what is happening with the talks between president-elect trump and his team and these canadian officials, we don't often talk too much about the northern border, but we have problems up there, too, so now we see canada's new finance minister and foreign minister in mar-a-lago to talk with president-elect trump, talking about border security and trade. let's look at some of the tenets of canada's overall border plan. put that up on the screen. they want to block fentanyl. they want to use new tools for law enforcement, enhanced coordination with u.s. law enforcement, increased information sharing, limiting traffic at the border, it all sounds great, and you now have -- this is funny -- the new finance minister in particular dominic leblanc says he is going to meet with tom homan. he wants to discuss the northern border and how canada can avoid

tariffs. thoughts on that? >> first of all, merry christmas, happy holidays, and happy friday to you and fill. look, the fact these canadian officials are coming down to mar-a-lago to meet with president trump and tom homan, that is a win for america. this is about national security and border security and when you have a safe and secure border, you have a healthy border for strong economic trade and travel and commerce. everything that has been mentioned in some of the lead in stories. this is absolutely a win for us and a win for canada because they are a shared border our partners and our allies, and this overall fight. the fact they are going down there to talk about this -- and look, i have been in the room with tom homan in years past, shoulder to shoulder, tough negotiations, sometimes he and i would but heads, but we were negotiating our own policies with our own administration back in the day, so i feel this is going to be very, very beneficial to the united states and the canadian population, but it secures the border and sends

the resounding message that you can cooperate, secure the border, an increase strong economic growth for both countries. >> anita: we will see what happens there. i want to bounce down to the southern border for a minute. and i want to take a look at this headline from "the wall street journal." it reads mexico worries trump will order strikes against drug cartels. what do you think about this? you know, these drug cartels have been wreaking havoc on the southern border. they are helping taupe or drugs into the country, all kinds of crime, murder, what do you think about trump's threat right th there? is it real? >> well, i don't know if we are going to launch strikes in another country over something like this, but i would never take it off the table with this administration, especially if we get the cooperation with mexico to support them in taking out these drug cartels. i mean, they are huge problem

both for the mexican government and population, and obviously our southern border and our country. we need to stand strong. i'm glad that we're even even talking about using military to support mexico in eradicating the threats the cartels push. let me tell you something. i think just having trump back in the white house, from a strong position of negotiation, is going to be a game changer, both in mexico and canada, and most importantly for america. it is going to secure our border and mitigate the problems inside our borders and it's going to hold elected officials, sanctuary cities, and even countries that are source countries accountable so we can protect america and put america first. >> anita: okay, and while i've got you here, i want to ask you about this horrible incident on the new york city subways, where this illegal immigrant sebastian zapeta literally which a woman on fire. he was in court today, and we

know the new york city mayor is asking the feds to come in and charge him, as well, and those charges actually carry the death penalty. there is going to be a debate about that there, but the state of new york is pushing back on that. what do you think is appropriate? should they leave it at state charges or other federal charges is warranted here? >> i think the fact we have new york city mayor coming around and wanting to cooperate with immigration enforcement and federal authorities is a win come and we should do this. they have been telling us under the biden administration, it is all about the federal government, they a response before it, so why don't they get involved and allow i.c.e. to pursue this, especially, harsher consequences. we have had laken riley, and now another heinous crime committed by an illegal alien that was allowed to roam the streets here in the united states, we have got to get strong, end p century

come as you said, a rule that it finalized less than two weeks before christmas. he says that rule, which has to do with overdraft fees that banks charge, will drive low income americans to high cost payday loans. ramaswamy writes this latest gambit of the cfpb is just a symptom of a deeper and unconstitutional cancer of unelected bureaucrats substituting their policy judgments for those of congress. he says that's un-american and it needs to end. the rule is part of president biden's war on what he calls junk fees. it requires banks with more than $10 billion in assets to reduce their overdraft fees from an average of around $35 to $5 when an account goes negative. they also have the option to charge only what overdraft cost them in losses, or they can charge any amount if they treat the overdraft fee like a loan and disclose their interest rate that they are charging. republicans in congress know that if they want to take action

ask simple questions about the conflict in israel and gaza with the terrorists, she didn't seem to have any of the basic facts. i was staff director of that committee for a number of years, years ago, and in order to run that committee on behalf of democrats you have to be very, very rigorous on the facts. i have not seen aoc display the kind of rigor that is needed. is there another candidate that could run against gerry connolly? perhaps. i think these are the wrg questions democrats are answering. democrats have more fundamental cultural questions that they need to be able to deal with if they want to climb back into relevancy. >> bill: mary, what do you think about connolly being the one selected to go up against james comer? these hearings get a lot of public attention. they are on tv all the time. >> i think julian is right. it is because aoc represents the far left wing of the democratic party. she is basically the mold of bernie sanders. jen psaki is wrong in the sense that if they actually want to hear what the voters said on november 5th, they need to get behind moderate democrats.

had better be released from hamas custody before he takes office or "there is going to be hell to pay." in your opinion, is hamas listening to that threat? >> no, i don't think that mohammed sinwar is deterred by trump's verbiage. israel is in a very difficult spot. they don't know who they are negotiating with or what they are negotiating for. the estimate is there is 100 hostages in gaza. half are believed to be alive but at this point israel doesn't know if they are negotiating with mohammed sinwar or the hamas political negotiators. hamas has been so decimated it d fractured i don't even think mohammed sinwar knows where the hostages are and how many there are. he has admitted he we don't want to give that information. it's possible that they can't give that information because they have admitted they don't have communication with all of the factions holding the current

hostages. >> bill: yeah commented that a point, appearing one of the sticking points of that deal, israel wants a list of living hostages and hamas told the qatari newspaper they don't have a list and can't get a list because of all of the fighting going on so if that is the position each site has, how are they ever going to reach a deal here? >> there is not going to be a deal reached prior to the inauguration. i believe with trump's all hell to pay comments, is what that means is there going to give unhindered, untethered support to israel, whether that is military munitions, increased intelligence sharing. i don't think that is a commitment of u.s. troops on the ground, but they are most importantly going to give the international support from this administration to israel and tell the rest of the international community to back off and allow israel to continue decimating hamas, eradicate them, and either get the hostages back or alive until the

mission is done. >> bill: there are some american citizens made up in that group of hostages, so at some point, do you think u.s. boots on the ground should go in there and try to get our people back, or is the best option to keep hoping for some sort of a deal to happen between israel and hamas? >> bill, that's a great question. i think the best support we can give to the israeli soldiers who have been fighting on the ground, that know that landscape, that know that geography, that know the players come our best equipped to conduct that fight. but again it comes back to the amount of untethered support we are giving to them monetarily, military munitions, and intelligence. >> bill: final question here, got 30 seconds left. in your opinion, if you are one of the families of the hostages, do you feel better with president trump coming into office? do you feel it is going to shake things up and maybe get the ball rolling that there will be some sort of disposition happening here? >> that's a tough one. so yes, i believe that it

pacific northwest. you are showing a weather system and an atmospheric river. i want to draw your attention to the south. yesterday in houston it was a rough afternoon in travel. big time disrupted in dallas. the same for what we had in houston. you see them here, a bunch of red little icons, confirmed tornadoes. they have not yet been surveyed. the damage out of houston, we will be checking in on some of that. nonetheless, the storms that started yesterday move to the east from mobile into montgomery. alabama is dealing with the rain. we have had a couple of tornado warnings this afternoon through southern mississippi. i want to draw your attention to tomorrow. this weekend is a busy travel weekend. houston, we have a likely threat, level 3 out of 5 threat for tornadoes.
