still 24 days away from taking office. he's already got leaders to our north and south taking action. welcome everyone. i'm grif jenkins. this is your world. canadian top ministers rushing to mar-a-lago. they're readying shelters to house thousands of migrants in mexico. first matt finn with the latest on the meeting with our neighbors up north. >> reporter: the canadian leaders are scheduled to meet with president-elect trump and the incoming border czar. president trump posted we might be seeing bill gates at mar-a-lago sometime soon. canadian prime minister justin trudeau made that famous visit to mar-a-lago a few weeks ago. president-elect trump has been

egging on trudeau that maybe canada should become our 51st state and trudeau should become its governor if trudeau cannot fix a flow of illegal migrants and drugs to our country. there are sweeping tariffs towards canada. trudeau told trump tariffs would crush their country. canada's finance minister dominic leblanc and melanie joly are scheduled to have meetings. canada is, quote, ready to go on immigration enforcement. the canadian premier of alberta tells fox she wants to know that canada wants to improve its partnership with the u.s. >> got this wonderful partnership that we have had since 1993. there's always going to be trade tensions. if we could work on that relationship and also work on some of the border issues, have the americans know that we want to be a partner in addressing our cross-border security

issues, also more internationally the threat of china, russia, being able to help our allies. now, the united states gets a lot of its crude oil and electricity from canada. in addition to these immigration talks, the trade partnership really is very important. and it seems like there is some momentum right now between the united states and canada. grif. >> that's an important part of it as well. matt finn in west palm beach. mexico is springing into action. alex alexandra huff has that part of the story. >> reporter: president-elect trump intends according to a report, the governor said the country plans to open 25 new shelters for those ejected from the u.s. those housed will stay for a few

days before being sent to their hometowns. they will not be open to non-mexican citizens. >> we hope to have an agreement with the trump administration in the event of these deportations so they send from other countries to their countries of origin. >> president-elect maintains on his first day back in the oval office, he will sign a series of executive orders to close the border and -- >> president-elect donald trump: we will begin the largest deportation operation in american history. larger than that of dwight d. eisenhower. >> the current administration did a major switch in messaging. 290,000 non-citizens were removed from the u.s. this year. that is a fiscal record. >> this broken system needs to be fixed.

and it's not just to ensure that individuals who do not have a lawful basis to remain in the united states are removed. it's also to ensure that we are providing humanitarian relief to those who qualify. >> we're talking about this 270,000 removed this year, that number includes those encountered right from the border. >> not to countries that don't accept their citizens back. venezuela and china all part of the problem. alex, thank you. texas is ready to help trump in this deportation effort. he will start with criminal migrants. lt, what do you see texas doing to ready to help out the incoming border czar tom homan?

>> good afternoon, grif. great to be with you as always. one thing we have done in texas, you have known over the years, you have visited the border so many times, we have provided a national blueprint on how to secure the border by providing the tools and strategies that we have at the state level, infrastructure, creating specialized teams focused on apprehending and arresting criminal smugglers and trying to evade captors. providing that foundation and blueprint, the new administration can take over and take on that responsibility. it's going to make our job much more efficient knowing that we have an ally with the federal government. one thing that we continue to do is reign proactive. we do not want to remain complacent. border crossings are down. we continue to find ways to enhance our operations, create specialized teams, focus more on that criminal element, trying to apprehended got aways is a focus

getting forward. the new administration will be busy trying to apprehended criminals. while that's going on, we have to focus on that criminal element? transnational organized crime and focussing on got aways, those who want to evade capture? >> the chief of the border patrol posting on "x" today that the agency apprehended over 650 criminal illegal migrants in just this past month. chris, what's your takeaway from this number? can the trump administration ultimately try and dissuade the factor that brings so many criminal migrants across our border. >> first off, this massive deportation operation is going to be a deturedeterrent. you need a remain in mexico policy or some policy that would

keep anybody from moving from mexico to the united states. you can focus on criminal elements, those in the country illegally, criminals that continue to commit crimes. that would free up more agents with dps with local and other state partners. we can focus on the criminal element. the new administration is focussing on policies to stem that flow of massive immigration. >> it's a great point you raised, lt. mexico has to be a partner in this. obviously mexico has a new president, claudia. do you have reason to believe that mexico may be more cooperative? they may be preparing to house migrants that are deported. are you seeing any indication that they may help with trying to stem the flow? >> well, i mean, of course, the

numbers remain consistent as far as what we see across the border. border crossings have been happening since the start of january. it remains to be seen. we have heard a lot of conversations in different dialog between the leaders and mexico. one thing that remains to be seen is the action. come january 20th, are we going to see real action, real solutions from mexico to stem that flow and take on their responsibility to prevent anybody from crossing the border illegally from their southern border? that will tell us what we can expect in the coming year and how much of a partner mexico will be from the united states when we talk about illegal immigration and border security. they are a great partner. we need them. they are an ally to us. our state leaders, we have conversations with leaders in mexico to help us with our operations. we need help at the federal level. >> the cartel smugglers don't take holidays off.

today. new york city mayor eric adams wants him to face federal charges on top of state charges. nate foy has the latest from outside the brooklyn supreme court. hey, nate. >> reporter: hey, griff. a brooklyn grand jury indicted sebastian zapeta on charges of second-degree murder, first-degree murder and first-degree arson. the illegal migrant from guatemala hit a woman on fire on the subway killing her on sunday morning while she was sleeping. now, take a look at this. there is some pressure from several people including mayor eric adams to bring a federal case here, a federal arson charge. mayor adams instructed the nypd to coordinate with i.c.e.'s homeland investigations team. the d.a. said this should remain at the state level. >> state law is more significant in this case. there's a possibility with life

without parole. i have a lot of confidence in the people of brooklyn and the people who come and serve on jury duty here. >> reporter: so mayor adams has been critical of new york city's sanctuary laws which are on full display in this case. ice confirms with fox it launched a new immigration detainer for zapeta. they will not honor the detainer. >> federal charges could be appropriate here. we have this ongoing policy in the city of new york in which we're not cooperating with immigration and customs enforcement to remove people who are here illegally and dangerous. >> zapeta waived his right to appear in court today. he is expected in person for his arraignment on january 7th. as for the woman who was killed,

we were told today by the brooklyn d.a. the medical examiner has made progress in the identification progress. five days after death, she was burned so badly, they're not go. back to you, griff. >> griff: just a horrific crime. nate foy in new york. thank you. why the push for charges? ted williams is joining us now. ted, you and i have worked together and covered so many crimes over the past decade or so and really this one is just heart-wrenching. but now we see this push for federal charges. why do you think that is? what do you make of it? >> well, griff, you're absolutely right. we have covered a lot of horrendous crimes in this country. and i must commend mayor adams for seeking federal charges even though they are federal arson charges. i think they should be sought. we can walk and chew gum at the

same time in the criminal justice system. and so i have no problems with the state pursuing their charges. i also believe the federal charges are necessary under the circumstances than the scenario of what took place there in the subway in new york. >> if there were federal charges brought, ted, walk us through, would those run parallel to the state charges? would it come after that? how would it work? >> what would probably happen in this scenario and circumstances, the state charges appear to be stronger, they would go first with the state charges and state trial. the federal trial would probably come second. we know that in federal court things move a lot faster than state court. there is always a possibility that the state could charge

under the arson charges, and i stand to be corrected. they could charge under the first-degree murder charges and the feds could take up the arson charge. >> and as we watch the video, just impossible to imagine that something like this would happen in broad daylight on the subway. i was actually on the subway that day. and they stopped us at the 34th street station and asked everyone to get off. i walked off to a sea of nypd officers standing shoulder to shoulder. as they got off, they went on. they apprehended sebastian zapeta. how does this happen? no one gets involved. no good samaritan like a daniel penny jumps in to try and help. >> you just said daniel penny's name there. daniel penny was the good

samaritan that came today to individuals on the subway there. individual was choked to death. as a result of that, he was put on trial. and he was just found not guilty there in new york. it's simple that people are very much aware that they want to be good samaritans. they don't want to face charges. in the circumstances that we will face here with this man on the train there, this illegal immigrant, sebastian zapeta who from all indications set this woman on fire, there was nobody on that train that could have gotten to her in time. this homeless woman that was on the train that was set afire by this man. griff, we have to say quickly, we have to look at mental illnesses in cases like this. just a reasonable human being

just about that time where people have spent a lot of time with hatheir families. many of you need to get home. the weather is not cooperating. here in dallas, the most delays from thunderstorms yesterday causing a trickle down effect today. in the south and the west, storms are threatening trips also. we will take you to our flight aware misery map. 5,000 delays and 118 cancelations. we have been following this all day long. we're seeing a major jump now, the airports having the most issues here in dallas as i mentioned, houston, atlanta, chicago, and jfk. well, in texas, governor greg abbott activated the emergency response plan yesterday ahead of severe weather. millions are just trying to return home or even continue their holiday travels. >> just hectic. you know, it's one of those deals at the mercy of the airlines and the weather.

in fact, right now, looking at the fox weather alert system, that's a confirmed tornado on the ground in wayne county mississippi left from a storm system that moves across areas farther west yesterday and triggered at least half a dozen tornadoes. that's what we're watching into theed early part of the weekend tomorrow. this looks potent and widespread for the early part of the weekend from areas in east texas including houston across the lower mississippi into alabama and western parts of the panhandle. it's level three out of five threat from the storm prediction center. that includes all modes of weather. wind gusts, large hail and the possibility of strong tornadoes. we are talking about ef-2 plus. this is a week where so many folks want to unplug and enjoy time with family and friends. if you are in this part of the country or have plans to travel to or from there or have an

do you think? >> i think that the democrats made one right move. if you look at why president trump won, it was a mixture of a lot of the woke policies and the policies that the squad members -- you know, you have got aoc and the rest of the squad. i think that america voted for the trump policies. if the democrats were really smart, they would hone in and not just look at the lunatic fringe side of the party to excel in leadership roles but take a long hard look. it's fine to look at the youth. it's fine to look at younger members. let's get members that are a little bit more moderate. after the red wave that crashed into the democratic party, they have got to look and see what worked and what didn't. aoc and the squad and all the woke members aren't cutting it. it's not about you. it's about which direction the

party was going? it was the wrong direction. >> what do you say kelly? aoc obviously has been for some time a rising star in the democrat party. obviously part of the squad, part of the progressive wing of the party as noel is pointing out is part to blame for the november losses. jerry connolly doesn't get as much of the media attention that aoc does get as jen swas pointig out. >> he comes with a lot more experience. he has been 17 years on the oversight committee. that was definitely key and played a crucial role in the upcoming election. and so i think it's important to look at it from that standpoint as well of him being seasoned and potentially we have to remember in the upcoming election in the midterm elections if, in fact, the

democrats win the house. he is going to be in charge of the oversight committee. when we look at exactly what the oversight committee does, it needs to look at what is accountable. it looks at a checks and balance of the government as well. it has a lot of power. it has subpoena power. from a legal standpoint, it can compel people to come forward with documents and also testify as well. >> right. kelly, let's broaden this a little bit from just the committee assignment here and point out that the criticism doesn't stop there in an online conversation with "new york times." various democratic strategists conceding that the party brand is in the toilet. is the democratic brand in the toilet? >> trump won the election. that's important to note as

well. in regards to the upcoming election, i think it's important for the american people to have someone that's going to work for them and fight for them. and ultimately they make that decision. and so it's really important to look at that and see what's going to help them. are the republican party going to help them? are the democratic party going to help them? that's really important. they work together to help the american people. >> noel, i will give you the last word. do you think the democrats are so far in the wilderness with these losses it's going to be an easy cruise to the midterms? are you cautious of that? >> i don't want to be overall cautious. the democrats have a great path going forward. we're focused on the right things and the right things are putting americans first, securing the border, low taxes, less regulations. we are raring to go.

after telling fox business it's time to consider if current leadership is what we need. with us now, thank you for taking time on a holiday friday. such an important topic because just one week from today, the house, republicans will gather to decide whether or not mike johnson keeps that gavel. have you gotten any farther in your thinking? will you commit to support johnson one week from today for speaker? >> well, we're still working with the speaker's office to make sure that we don't have a repeat of what happened leading up to the resolution. you heard mills in the clip you just played. we can't have him making the deals with hakeem jeffries. the deals have to be made with the republican congress. we're working with the speaker's office to change the way things are done, to advance president trump's agenda for the american

people. we will see if those commitments can be made. if they can't, next friday could be a long day. >> have you made up your mind now? are you undecided? >> again, i'm still working, many members of the freedom caucus working to make sure that president trump's agenda will be able to be delivered out of the house. again, if you looked at what happened with that continuing resolution, it was pretty clear that we're probably not up for that game right now. we could be up for the game. we will see if the speaker is willing to make the changes necessary. >> mr. chairman, we expect fully, it's highly likely that president-elect trump will put his finger on the k scale and back someone whether it's johnson or not. if it is johnson, will you commit to support him? >> the house has to function independently. the president has not put his

finger on the scale this week. maybe he will. again, we hope the president realizes that changes have to be made how the house does business and how the leadership is functioning. it has to start on day one. we have to send our first reconciliation package over to the senate hopefully before the president's inauguration on january 20th. >> chairman, i want to know if you have considered some other names. if it's not johnson, jim jordan's name has been floated. are there others you are considered as possibly a good selection, if not johnson? >> again, we're hoping that mike johnson will work to make the changes necessary. obviously what we saw last time when speaker mccarthy had to step down. the other members, [ names being read ] all of those names came up last time. i'm hoping we can figure out a way to get this house totally functional ready for president trump's agenda with the current

leadership in place. changes are going to have to be made now. >> griff: walk us through congressman, the math as they say. congressman massey is a definite "no." it's so razor thin. he alluded to possibly other members that are going to be "no" as well. are you aware of exactly where the math stands? >> again, if you look at people who have announced that they are against speaker johnson, it's just mr. massey at this point. if one other person, just one other person votes for someone, just doesn't vote president, votes for someone else, t the -- he will not be declared speaker. it's very, very close. we're working hard to get the changes necessary. we want to hit the ground running with the trump agenda. we have to pass the border bill

>> great to be with you. first of all people say live on rice and beans, and make coffee at home, take all of the joy out of your life and that is the best way to save, and it is highly ineffective. first week of january you want to throw that out the window. you want to find out what is important to you and set three financial goals, maybe pay off $10,000 of credit card debt, save x amount for a retirement, start a fund for my kids' college, once you find out what is important to you, now you are motivated to make progress because life comes at you fast and if you are not focused on what you want, life is going to tell you what you want and it is not going to get you where you want to go. >> griff: the next one you say earn what you are worth, explain. >> yeah, so many people are going to be lucky this year, griff, if they get that 4% raise and here's what is going to happen, your spouse is going to say how was your day at work? my day sucked because i got a 4%

raise, i'm not getting paid what i deserve. here's what i want people to do in the month of january come ask yourself whatever job you are in three questions, how can i help the company make more money, how can i help the company save money and how can i help the company be more productive? you do that in your role, take that to your boss, you are likely going to get a significantly higher than a 4% raise or if you are in a job where you can't get a raise, that you want to look at the side hustle. the key is make this year the year of no regrets, no complaints, pick out the dollar amount you want to make, becomes empath problem to get there. >> griff: we all know the saying work smarter not harder, you say save smarter not harder. how do you do that? >> a lot of people's money is lazy in the break room and not knowing what to do. i want you to boss your money around and say look, i want to capture savings and then keep it. here's how to do it. i am here in texas so i can save on my electricity but other people call your auto insurance
