for giving us a little bit of your time on the custom of 2025 greatly present your insights. >> thanks for having me on. >> i want to start with there are a number of political leaders all across the country promising to trump proof or pushback on the trump plans which are have yet to be formalized completely. we are not sure how mass deportations will happen. what do you think will happen in california as the pushback is underway? and you have any predictions? >> i think there will be some cities, some parts of the state that will continue to try to be sanctuaries. i would also urge leaders in california to work with the incoming administration where we can. the voters spoke and what border security. so, are there places where we can slow down the incoming tide of folks that are asylum-seekers et cetera? are there smart policies we can do? we need farmworkers but we've been able to do stuff in a bipartisan way.

more to the progressive way the progressives are making the argument they were not progressive enough and the national elections and that is what cost them. what do you think? >> i don't buy into that. people who came out and voted for the republicans who ultimately love the one the election because there are also progressive. think they voted for them because they have a message that resonated to meet them where they are. they also had issues that they were leaning in on that make sense to the voters. i am not saying that we should lean to the left or to the right. i do believe the country has proven to be a centerleft or center-right party. when given the election looking back at restaurant retrospect i focus on more than anything is saying united, working with republicans where it makes sense part holding them accountable along the way. but also making certain voters understand what we bring to the table. we cannot be a party of just being anti- trump or anti-

republican. we have to make the case. but also of what makes us different. two things happen in elections. i set on this network before, you win or you learn pretty ultimately do not lose. i think we still have some learning to do from the previous election. rich: building on that, do you think the party going into this congress where you have got the house, the senate and the white house all going to be repu republican, is this going to be an anti- trump type situation? or, do you think there is room will democrats work with republicans in the upcoming years? >> i think the american people expect democrats and republicans to work together. not just democrats working with republicans but also republicans working with democrats. i think this election prove that. i think where we cannot find common ground as we should find a higher ground with the american people for the sake of the american people. that does not mean we should let

this up. how concerned should we be about the bird flu? >> we need to monitor it. terms of the two cases at a very severe, the idea that when this virus gets into humans it can cause a severe illness, is not new. that's half of the cases we have seen since 2003 have died actually. what's actually new is the kind that's gotten into cattle is causing very mild disease. so that is a positive thing. we do not know what direction this will go in. the real direction the cdc is looking so closely at this is the flu virus mutate a lot. if they come into contact with other flu viruses, they can exchange material and that can move it in a direction where it goes human to human. molly, experiments were done that a lot of us are not thrilled with back in 2012 which show exactly the mutations that would be necessary for this to go easily human to human.
