charlie: it's the 8:00 a.m. hour fox & friends weekend starting with this fox news alert. dozens are dead after a plane
5:01 am
veered off the runway and crashed in south korea. we'll have the latest details. rachel: plus one outgoing democrat calling out the parties lack of leadership as the left tries to unite against mike johnson, ahead of the speaker vote. will: and did you get a new dog for christmas like i did? well we have all of the tips and tricks to train your new best friend at home. the third hour of fox & friends weekend starts right now. ♪ charlie: so we are three days from the end of 2024. will: yeah. charlie: good morning, and great to have you here with us at fox and friends weekend. good to see you guys. rachel: good to see you too.
5:02 am
we were going to talk earlier, who are you going to spend your new years eve with? will: i'm glad you brought that up, rachel. i have historically said it's the most over rated holiday. rachel: i agree totally. charlie: only bad things happen to me. will: i don't know if we had this poll up earlier but we're not alone. the vast majority of americans spend new years eve at home. like we're talking 70%. rachel: exactly and do you know what? it's young people, the numbers of people who go out are young people and then they get old enough and wise to realize how overrated it is, how cold it is, and then they just go and do what we do which is make a steak and stay home with the people we love. will: some of my favorite new years were with you. rachel: yeah, when we were in nashville. those were fun days. will: and by the way if you aren't home then you're at the home of a friend which by the way we'll do that. i'd do that, but there was a day when i was in that 6%. rachel: me too. and i look forward to it and i spent two hours getting ready,
5:03 am
and then i got old and decided why am i doing that? i just want to be with my husband and my kids on my couch, have a steak. charlie: so the entire 6% that doesn't stay-at-home like we do, apparently comes to new york and goes to times square. rachel: that's true. and they wear diapers do you know that? charlie: i don't. i read this. rachel: it's true. charlie: it's like -- rachel: gross. charlie: i can't relate to this on any level whatsoever, and it's cold. rachel: it's cold. there's no bathrooms and you're trapped. charlie: you can't get out. you're trapped for blocks. rachel: and they are all pretending they are having fun. that's the worst part. will: anyway, happy new year. rachel: by the way, can i say this quick? my dog is coming to the set. our new dog you talked about violet and saint who has a psychological problem. will: [laughter] he does not. rachel: yeah he does.
5:04 am
will: you just got on all of the young men of america for having low libido and testosterone and i'm telling you young saint is solid. i've just got to get it under control. rachel: that's the thing, self-control. we'll get a trainer in here to talk about how saint can control his libido and yes, there are some men that need help with that, but also -- charlie: you're like the goldilocks of fertility. rachel: but we're also going to bring in teddy who doesn't have that problem. he has a potty problem so and he's also very naughty so we're going to deal with naughty dog problems with a celebrity trainer and my girls are bringing him in. charlie: is he going to go to the bathroom in the studio? will: how much a percentage, on the rug? rachel: there's totally a possibility. will: i encourage you to stick around and place bets on it. is her dog going to go to the bathroom here in the studio. let's begin this hour on capitol hill.

as democrats are reportedly united against house speaker mike johnson ahead of next month's speaker vote. charlie: madeline rivera has the details. reporter: hi, good morning. house speaker mike johnson survived a bid in may with the help of democrats who voted to save him. this time democrats say they won't be doing that again. >> i made that very clear and you saw that as we voted on the budget at the end of the year, we stayed united. there were a lot of things in there that bothered us. we stayed together and trust me, we will do the same thing on the house floor when the vote for speaker comes up. democrats are going to be united. we are not going to bail him out this time. reporter: that put johnson in a tight spot. the next congress will begin with 219 house republicans and 215 house democrats. johnson needs 218 votes to keep his job. one congressman republican thomas massey said he won't be supporting johnson.
5:06 am
other congressmen, andy harris, scott perry,, for instance are also on the fence, but johnson's allies are warning against a fight over the gavel. they see a speaker's battle as a distraction and will delay them from enacting president-elect trump's agenda. >> i fully support mike johnson and he's done as good a job as anyone could have done with the cards he's been dealt and who else is going to do it? we have been given a mandate by the american people. president trump has been given a mandate. the first 100 days are extremely important. we do not need a protracted speaker's race. reporter: we're still waiting for president-elect trump to weigh in on the speaker's vote. republicans say he will have the ultimate word on whether johnson stays or goes. will, rachel, and charlie? will: thank you, madeline for that. let's continue to analyze this with fox news sunday anchor shannon bream who joins us now. reporter: good morning, guys. will: you know, we're just sitting here during madeline's
5:07 am
report talking about this. it's no surprise democrats are united against mike johnson. the question is about republicans and is everything governing going forward it's a question of republicans and unity from trump's nominees to his cabinet, if he has enough republican support they will be his nominees and now with mike johnson, how much republican support can he get and i turn that over to you, shannon. >> well so you guys know as madeline was reporting that thomas massey is saying he's a no vote, voting for someone other than johnson, unless he changes his mind that's the deal and the only vote johnson can lose based on the current numbers. our chad pergram who is the best of the best on capitol hill, he does the math for us and he says basically that's it. every other republican has to stick together for johnson or he is in real trouble, but as you've also heard there too, where do you go next? who is the other republican that takes up this mantel and can get 218 votes? i do think it's going to be really important to hear from president trump. he's been supportive of the speaker. you heard elon musk also come
5:08 am
out after that vote to get the continuing resolution done and saying he did the best with what he had to work with, so absent that it sounds like he's the guy, but you can't lose anyone past thomas massey, and hold on to the gavel and remember they literally can't do anything in the house including certify the election on january 6 if they don't have a speaker. will: shannon we were just talking on the couch. i don't want to speak for everyone. i have a lot of respect for thomas massey. rachel: by the way i like speaker johnson as well. he's a great guy but my question is thomas massey has he put something on the table like i want you to do this and then you get my vote or is he just a no, no matter what? >> he thinks they need to stand up, be independent from the executive and judicial branches and do their job, so based on that i don't know what the speaker could tell him or give him that would assure him that is going to change. enough to convince him by january 3rd but maybe they are having those backchannel
5:09 am
conversations about what it will take to win that vote back, because it's so precarious but he hasn't publicly said something like a list of demands you do these things i change my vote. we haven't seen that publicly. will: charlie to you as much as shannon, he also hasn't said what his alternative be to speaker johnson. charlie: which is always the problem, and the wonderful thing about thomas massey but also the difficult thing about thomas massey is that you're not going to buy him off by building a bridge in his district. he really doesn't care about that kind of thing. he's a very highly-principled guy and but it does seem like the question that he's going to wind up getting stuck on is what is the alternative and at a moment like this , where you have, you know, republicans have whatever it is, 80% of what it is that they want and what they need to get things done in washington, do you want to derail that, get things on track with trump in the white house and republicans in control of
5:10 am
both chambers of congress. reporter: well it sounds like he's going to make this point and if he's the only vote that johnson loses, johnson could still hold on to this thing. the worst case scenario, way back in the 1860s i think it was somebody went through 133 ballots to get to a speaker. i do not think we're going to get anywhere near that this time but there are real questions about how this thing gets done. by the way, congressman massey is one who said i don't buy the argument about pressuring me we can't certify the election on january 6. i'm not worried about that. it's not an issue. i have bigger concerns about how congress is operating but he hasn't given us an alternative name or somebody else to vote for , and that person whoever it be is certainly not going to get to 218, so how long he sticks with this and makes a point and whether other republicans join him in some show of force or stick together and give johnson the 218 he needs, we'll find out in a few days. rachel: shannon one of
5:11 am
the things commendable and democrats is they do stick together. they understand it's a team sport and as you saw in that clip before, with the michigan congresswoman who she's saying, you know, we all vote together. now, the democrats are also facing, you know, what we've been talking about all morning which is a rebranding. here is representative dean phillips from minnesota and he says this. he says that it's a party that consists of multiple silos and campaign committees and outside groups cannot strategically do its job, and that means leadership right now. we are totally devoid of leadership. i don't know which democratic party member my colleagues would point to as the leader as the de facto leader and absent that i don't see much, frankly, happening. what's your thoughts on that and who do you think becomes that leader moving forward in this rudder less party as phillips describes it? >> listen as you guys know, he was a critic of president biden running again from the beginning, and he has been
5:12 am
raising these concerns, but many others have who are it's still a part of the party including congressman ro khanna with us this morning on fox news sunday he's talked about the fact we didn't listen to people. the wrong positions on these culture war issues, that were not using common sense on issues of crime and people feeling safe, so there's a lot of introspection publicly and privately happening with the party. one of the first big things they will do is elect the new dnc chair so a lot of people are looking to see does that person become the leader of the party. all of the big guns were out for the last election. president clinton and obama and others who were super popular and they didn't have a win with vice president harris, so you know, that takes away a little bit of the luster from their leadership in the party so who is the current leader? i think democrats are still trying to figure that out. will: shannon what do you have coming up on fox news sunday but also, let me ask you this question as you tell us that as well because we debated this this morning. do you think john fetterman has a political ceiling higher than the senator from pennsylvania?
5:13 am
reporter: it's a good question. his name keeps being floated but listen, as much as democrats have had their frustrations with him, because he's really tough on issues, or not moving on israel and its ability to defend itself at all costs, the border he's called out his own party, so he's made friends across the aisle but i don't know he has enough of a strength within the democrat party to go beyond where he is now only because they may not want him to based on some of the things he's saying. okay so we've had him on fox news sunday, we're having congressman ro khanna this morning. we also have senator eric schmitt and we're going to talk about this very public civil war of the h 1b visas, elon musk vs. the maga crowd with both of these guys, congressman khanna represents silicon valley so we'll get perspective from the r and the d. rachel: that's interesting ro khanna definitely. will: thank you, shannon. charlie: thanks.
5:14 am
will: to a fox news alert at least 179 people are dead after a fiery plane crash in south korea. the 15-year-old boeing plane carrying 181 people skidding off the runway at an airport about 180 miles south of seoul, as it bangkok, thailand. charlie: continuing this morning after the aircraft exploded on the impact the concrete wall at the muan international airport, the view is graphic and some might find it disturbing. rachel: wow incredibly two crew members have been pulled from the wreckage alive by emergency crews without any life threatening injuries. meanwhile local officials say the control tower issued a bird strike warning and that the pilots declared may day before trying to land the plane.
5:15 am
will: we spoke to an expert earlier who says he does not think that explanation is likely. >> a lot of people are saying that this airplane landed on that runway at the speed with no flaps, with no gear. there might have been something else involved but a bird strike on an engine might shut an engine down but there's so many redundant systems there it just doesn't make sense. will: reports also saying the boeing jet's landing gear was not deployed. all right, let's turn now to a few additional headline we'll start here. at least four people including three officers were hospitalized after two police cars crashed with a medical transport near a bart train station in northern california yesterday. more than half a dozen of the police cruisers are getting damaged in the crash as local officials are still investigating a possible cause. >> 12 people in three firefighters are hurt after a bright line train collided with a fire truck in south florida yesterday. the exact cause of the collision
5:16 am
is under investigation, but the federal railroad administration and national transportation safety board both say they're looking into it. the firefighters are in stable condition while the injured passengers are also expected to be okay. >> new overnight spacex launching four new satellites on the falcon 9 rocket from cape canaveral just after midnight. >> 3-2-1 mission, and liftoff. will: the satellites are scheduled to be in space for roughly the next eight to 10 years and here you can see the moment the rockets second engine kicked into gear to continue the journey into orbit. it was spacex 88th launch this year. >> and to football. iowa state cyclones downing down the miami hurricanes in the pop tart bowl thanks to this last minute touchdown.
5:17 am
iowa state winning 42-41 but the real star of the night was the game's mascot after being dropped into the ceremonial giant toaster. players and coaches from iowa state ate the edible mascot to celebrate their victory. and those are your headlines. you want to set this up because we both like this topic. rachel: it's a crazy topic, but it's relevant. i think we all deal with it, so the director of doom, he said this about just our culture right now. he said human beings are ruled by algorithms right now. we behave like a.i. circuits the way we see the world, our narrow-minded binaries. we're disconnecting from each other and society is crumbling and in some ways, it's frightening. what do you guys make of this?
5:18 am
i think we're living in, there's like a group of people that are trying to push us towards this. i think some of it is just how technology is developing, but you know, trans humanism, this idea of being disconnected, these devices that are good and evil at the same time, i think is really creating that kind of disconnect. charlie: it's like the saying about fire. these things are a terrific slave but a terrible master and it is true and it's what's really sort of ironic about it is that the beauty of it is that it connects you to people and it connects you to anybody anywhere in the world, instantaneously but yet that's not the end result. the end result is that it actually divides us, and makes us, you know, fall into our little bubble, our own personal bubble and we do get directed by this stupid thing and the only solution is taking your kids, your sons hunting is to go out
5:19 am
into the woods and go away from all of it and just go get into nature and do whatever you have to do. go to nature, and take a break from it, and i think it's really interesting, what i've noticed with children is that children recognize it like this. they recognize it so quickly when they getaway from this and get exposed to regular nature and free thinking and free time, they are like wow. that was -- rachel: they're happier. will: what i find fascinating is we're ruled by algorithm so gary vaynerchuck is an expert in business and he said even this is changed. all your social media, instagram, tiktok, x, it used to be you followed someone, right? and that's a bit of a connection, like i value what that person has to say so i'm going to follow that person. we don't do that anymore. now it's all algorithm-based. you're getting constantly fed content that you didn't choose
5:20 am
consciously to follow. it's feeding into an algorithm that's saying this is what you like. in other words, like in our business like how many followers? it doesn't matter. it's what matters is if you hit an algorithm that hits people's attention based on how they continue to interact with it. rachel: it's true and what's interesting is we talked earlier off camera about i'm seeing among young people, my kids, their friends a fascination with the 80s and 90s and part of that is you're seeing online videos of people from the 80s and 90s and people are finding old videos and compiling clips of people from the 80s. literally young people. and how they interact at dances and football games, in the hallways by their lockers and what you see is interaction. real, not virtual. i bet if i put a camera in a hallway in a school with lockers, i bet you're going to see probably 80% of this.
5:21 am
so what is being lost? and what i think the lesson is and it's for all of us, even as adults is how many of us adults have walked into, you know, rooms during vacation time, where we're all supposed to be together and everyone is on their phone? the intentionality that we need to have for ourselves and our kids just sort of lock these things away and really gift our children and our families some non-tech time is super important. will: elon musk says a visa for highly skilled foreign workers is why he's in america as president-elect trump makes his feelings known on the controversial program.
5:22 am
when we started feeding bogie the farmer's dog, he lost so much weight. pre-portioned packs makes it really easy to keep him lean and healthy. in the morning, he flies up the stairs and hops up on my bed. in the past, he would not have been able to do any of those things.

rachel: president-elect trump supporting elon musk and vivek ramaswamy after the two-backed h 1b visas for foreign workers telling the new york post "i've always liked the visas. i've always been in favor of the visas. that's why we have them. i have many visas on my property. i've been a believer. i've used it many times. it's a great program." our next guest is not sold on trump's claiming. joining us now is american majority founder and ceo ned ryun. well, a lot of confusion around this , because as you know, ned, first of all welcome and happy new year. >> thank you.
5:26 am
rachel: as you know, donald trump had a lot of criticisms for this program and said there were a lot of abuses of it. elon musk is now come out, vivek ramaswamy, and now donald trump told the new york post this. so what is your take? >> well my take is the entire conversation started around increasing the number of h 1b visas which was precisely the wrong place to start a conversation and expanding what is a broken and abused system and i think a lot of people can acknowledge the h 1b visa system is broken and abused. elon posted some things last night that be a nice starting point that you have to significantly raise the minimum salary and then add an annual cost to these h-1b visas to maintain them. i think we have to get to the point rachel where we make it expensive to have an h-1b visa to focus on having those truly exceptional people come in and use them, but rachel, i think the thing has to be, the thing that has to be discussed is the fundamental issues around this whole entire debate is that
5:27 am
america fundamentally is not an economic zone. we're not some global store front. americans should not be treated as second class citizens in their own country because federal policy allows billion dollar corporations to hire foreign workers under market wages instead of paying american workers full wages, so if we can start to frame the conversation that way and understand the system is broken, it needs to be reformed, and the american people should actually be prioritized in all things that is really the message of america first. rachel: its always been donald trump's message which is why i think some people are a little confused by that statement. >> correct. well, i think probably what's truly indicative of where donald trump's short-term will go on this is the fact that you have steven miller in the white house and he will be dealing with some of these issues like the h-1b visas. i think steven miller has made it very clear about how he feels and the system has been abused and there is need for reform and the starting point in the conversation with h-1b visas
5:28 am
is how do you reduce the number to truly bring in those that are exceptional and not let it be abuse, so "i feel pretty" confident that steven miller and his reform ideas on h-1b visas will truly be what well happen in the second term. rachel: i don't think anyone would think it was a good idea to not allow another elon musk into the country. we obviously want the brightest people to come here. >> truly exceptional people. rachel: of course but we have, you know, thousands of people doing coding jobs and i know a lot of americans who would love for their sons and daughters to have those jobs. >> i think one of the things that's been in sin you ated in this debate is somehow americans are mediocre. rachel: yes. >> i would firmly pushback on that. i think our school system has seriously not served the american people well. it has become indoctrination centers at all levels instead of emphasizing s. t. e. m., so i
5:29 am
think we've been abused by our school system and there's a significant need for reform. they should not be indoctrination centers and we should be emphasizing these things that will help us in these sectors. rachel: yeah, absolutely and importing workers to fill these jobs is not going to do anything to fix the system. it's going to prevent us from dealing with it. >> exactly it's a band-aid. rachel: absolutely and it is our school system. you're absolutely right about that. its failed our students and hopefully donald trump will do something through the education department to start fixing that, school choice, all that, but there is a family component of this as well and a lot of children have been failed at home, in broken homes. >> yes. rachel: when you hear vivek ramaswamy talk about sort of the cultural values that are coming say from, you know, east india and american families and so forth, those are families that are intact, families that are focused. i'll give you the last word on that. >> well i do think that we need
5:30 am
to challenge the generations behind us. our children and those behind them to actually set goals, to exceed what they think that is possible, so i think we have set low expectations. i think we need to encourage our younger people to set higher goals and reform the school system so there's a whole host of things but you're right. when we have things like h-1b visa that's abused it's a band-aid over the problem. it's not the real solution. rachel: yeah, i love we're having this debate. it's important. >> i do too actually. rachel: i'm glad we had you on, thank you, ned. >> thanks rachel. rachel: you've got it. our next guest issuing a stark warning for any be home invaders. >> you're going to be that brazen to come into my home? once again you should expect you're going to be shot. same. discover the power of wegovy®.

campaign year especially from the mainstream media but what are the worst lies the media pushed for democrats? here to break it down is fox news contributor joe concha. joe has written a column on this and joe quite honestly we could fill this entire wall full of media lies and even that wouldn't do it justice. >> we could go to 10 a.m. eastern time. will: the next several hours on this but let's hit some of the low lights if we will. let's start with this , joe. this is defending, i believe kamala harris' various flip-flops throughout the year. here is some of what we were treated to from kamala harris. >> i think sometimes we're not honest with ourselves about, you know, a couple of things. first of all we've changed our minds all the time based on information, based on where we're sitting. >> i don't think it's a bad argument but people have a sense of understanding but to your point, it sounds like politics and people have a willingness to accept a level of politics.

>> there is a baseline. >> it matters to her. people are saying she's so to the left and so progressive and she's going to have a republican in her cabinet. will: joe? >> yes. when a republican flip-flops it's called a lie. when a democrat does it, it's called evolving and learning and growing up. look, these weren't, look, lies. they were invalid truths. actually those are the same thing. when kamala harris said she opposed fracking, all offshore drilling, compared i.c.e. for the kkk, thought that, you know, those who are in prison who are here illegally should get sex changes these are all on tape so when they say these things you can't say no, no, she's changed. she was never a centrist and no one bought it because donald trump on the popular vote and won every swing state. will: this is one of my favorites that was so nakedly obvious how much they were running cover for democrats and specifically joe biden. joe, these are all the headlines that said republicans were guilty of cheap fakes, suggesting as the washington

post does here. cheap fake biden videos and the right wing media but deeply mislead, joe. >> yeah, five words sum up this entire year from a media perspective. don't believe your lying eyes so when joe biden is walking off stage and he's shaking hands with the air, or he doesn't know how to get off stage, or he forgets the name of cabinet members or literally saying he had a conversation with those who deceased way back when, whether it's the french president, german chancellor and so on, we were told those are actually not real when again it's on video. fortunately we have x, and x served as the ultimate fact checker whenever we were told videos we saw actually were real. will: and as you mentioned our lying eyes. we saw the truth. despite the fact they continue to try to tell us that joe biden was fit for office. that was another one of the big lies this year. here is how they told us that what we see is not what is real. >> the mixing up names, i

think for people who have been observing joe biden for a really long time it's actually just normal biden. >> he did show a little swagger and the swagger does combat the age. he's showing, you know, i've got a lot of energy. >> an extremely accomplished, experienced and capable in every way that anyone would want as their president. will: this might be one of the biggest deceptions of the last decade, perhaps more. >> oh, i'll say in modern presidential history, right, as far as this cover-up which wasn't much of a cover-up because we've been talking about it on this network for years. the most unintentionally hilarious part about it is when we were told actually behind the scenes, joe biden is this physical and mental, you know, master clash, in other words he's lamar jackson meets steven hawking. doing qua quadratic equations, l these things when we heard and

saw what we did from this president, especially during that debate in atlanta when his brain basically turned to applesauce. will: remember when he told donald trump he could out-drive him? i'm waiting for that competition. >> you know what the best part was? trump is called a fascist and didn't get too upset but then if you talked about golf and you'll out drive him then he got really angry so wait a minute. that won't stand. will: thank you, joe. >> good to see you. will: joe will stick around because like me and rachel he got a new dog so we've got training tips, next. ♪ lord, you know what's on our hearts. you know where we struggle. you know where we need to be pushed. help us give it all to you. the good, the bad. help us turn to you in everything. amen. you should join me in more prayer on hallow. stay prayed up.

gate to your home and doing controlled playtime so that they have supervised playtime but then you do take that puppy away, let your older dog get some rest and decompression so definitely mitigate those playtimes but i like using gates and making sure that puppy gets lots of energy that doesn't always include the other dog. rachel: so this is teddy here. this is our new dog. >> i see him. rachel: i'm sick of potty training, so like this dog is not doing well potty training. so what's the key to potty training, and just in general, should everyone have a trainer for their dog? >> i really recommend that because it's just like going to school you need guidance and honestly with puppies they thrive on routine, routine, routine. its got to be a pattern and also pay attention to when they are drinking and having their meals. it gets you on a schedule like oh, i see he's drinking maybe 20-30 minutes i should be trying to take him out but as a puppy take him out every few hours.

rachel: how does the trainer situation work because we don't have a trainer. do you take the dog to the trainer or the trainer could am to your house? >> well it's almost 2025 and thank goodness we have a lot of online opportunities but i still love puppies to go into a trainer to go into the classes get that socialization and exposure work that you can't just get at home. teaches the puppy well-rounded and it gives you good insight. will: you brought your guy with us, you'll show us tricks you can do. >> let's see fuji. ready, to go work. he said let's play, come on. tap it. go! yeah! ready? can you go orbit? there it is. there it is. rachel: nice. will: you check out christyjoy.com for more and follow her on social media at the joy crew. thank you so much. rachel: good luck, guys. >> don't give up, it's fun.
